AMEN Officially Part With Virgin Records
- Mar. 4, 2002
AMEN have officially announced their split with Virgin Records following the lackluster sales performance of their sophomore effort, We Have Come For Your Parents (which has shifted 15,789 copies in the US, according to Soundscan). AMEN frontman Casey Chaos stated: "we would like to thank all the past and present employees at Virgin for the last 2 years of hard work and dedication. Congratulations with putting up with us for that long! We wish you all the best in your new direction".
AMEN have completed work on their as-yet-untitled third studio album, due for release later this year, and they have just returned from Australia where they played at the Big Day Out festivals to rave reviews.
AMEN will remain signed to Ross Robinson's I Am imprint via a partnership with an as-yet-undetermined major label.

i think with the backing of ross and his imprint AMEN will continue to find a label - after all they've survived getting dropped by roadrunner and they seem to be fine after virgin
I really can`t think of an ideal label that would put some backing behind the band. Sure their sound isn`t for everyone, but look at how well At The Drive In did. They could be in the same position, but they got some help from the label. Anybody got an idea of who could do the same for Amen? Nobody deserves it more than they do.
The ATDI album went gold (500,000 copies). Compared to Amen's 15,000, it's pretty fucking great, I'd say.

i think at the drive in sold 250,000 copies of that last record. personally, i like both bands. but yeah, you could be great, but if the label doesn't think you can make money, they won't even bother helping you out and use the flop as a tax write off.
it shipped gold, which will get you certified...I don't think it sold 500,000. and now day you have to do at least platinum to cover rec/promo costs that said, yes ATDI did do good and amen suck ass...

I really dig AMEN and hate to see them get the shaft again. Too bad not too many ppl can get into AMEN, of course it doesnt sound like a lot of rap crap out there. I had a feeling in my gut that AMEN would have problems with Virgin since a band like them arent branded to be gold, 16,000 copies is pretty small for a major. But dont forget, labels in general only push their money bands, the others have to depend on word of mouth.
