EARACHE RECORDS: 'We Are Proud To Be Working With ADEMA' - July 26, 2004
Earache Records has issued a press release confirming the signing of ADEMA to a worldwide deal (as first reported here earlier today).

Commenting on their decision to sign the band, Earache U.S. label boss Al Dawson said, "We couldn't ignore the fact that ADEMA had sold nearly platinum and they were unsigned. It occurred to us that Earache could offer this band a second chance."

"ADEMA's music is more powerful and genuine than any trend, and can only be described as rock," continued Dawson. ADEMA drummer Kris Kohls described it thusly: "We go on stage and rock! Rock: it's such a broad word that it doesn't categorize you. From STP to METALLICA to WEEZER to THE CURE, rock encompasses it all."

In spring 2004, Earache approached ADEMA with an offer for a worldwide deal and the band signed on July 16.

Al Dawson explained: "We are proud to be working with ADEMA, a band whose musicianship and professionalism are both world-class. I'm confident we have a mutually rewarding situation ahead of us and I hope our success will stand as an example to other bands out there that an artist-friendly indie label like Earache is a viable alternative to the major labels. The corporate giants can't match the care and attention that we offer our bands, every step of the way."

ADEMA drummer Kris Kohls stated: "ADEMA is proud to announce we are signed to Earache! We will be putting out the new record in January and Earache is definitely the right label to get our record out there. Our new material is very diverse and Earache understands how to let a band do their thing and create music that comes from the heart. We are making music from the heart again and it feels great. Be ready... ADEMA is back!"

ADEMA's lawyer, Terri DiPaolo, added: "With ADEMA's new songs and Earache's devotion to its artists, everything is in place to make this next album ADEMA's best-selling to date. Having worked with the band since its inception, I can say that there has never been a more promising time for this band then right now."

Released last August, ADEMA's second full-length effort, "Unstable", has shifted 111,933 copies in the U.S. so far, according to Nielsen SoundScan — substantially less than the 669,834 units registered by its predecessor, 2001's "Adema". The band's 2002 EP offering, "Insomniac's Dream", has sold 53,610 copies to date.

ADEMA are currently at work on their next album, to be released worldwide on Earache Records in January 2005.

Is this the band who's singer is related to korns' lead singer davis. earache signs deicide last year which was awesome because they really promoted the record well. It entered the billboard top 200. but after signing adema, see ya later Glen Benton

Lest us not forget that Goo Goo Dolls are on METAL BLADE Records, and Nickelback are on ROADRUNNER Records. With their sales, these bands make it possible for MB and RR to sign more good bands, like Unearth (MB), As I Lay Dying (MB), Trivium (RR), and 3 Inches of Blood (RR).

Unfortunately for EARACHE, Adema is nothing in comparison sales-wise to Nickelback and Goo Goo Dolls, and I predict that the new Adema record sells far less than the last... although those numbers would probably match or beat any sales record that EARACHE has with its current/past roster.

earache records has closed their doors, sited by the fact they thought they signed jonathan davis' band.. HAHAHAHH

*sighs*
adema and korn both blow, but if it can make earache better in the long run by signing more cool bands, hopefully they steal all of adema's money while they're at it

The label thats had bands like Carcass, Napalm, Morbid Angel, Decapitated, Hate Eternal, Cathedral and Deicide

goes and fucking signs ADEMA?! .. As you've all said labels are out to make money but Adema ain't gonna sell shit, they only probably passed 100k with Unstable because Arista had more money to promote the disc to mtv sheep, whilst earache just.. doesn't.

This album will do like 50k at best.

not to mention, they were able to hit the market just before the wave died down and kids grew up, and thankfully nu-metal is almost dead. the only nu bands that are going to continue to sell records are the ones who have been around long. if bands better (for lack of a better term) than them (like static x, spineshank, mudvayne....*involuntary shudder*) can't even sell that many records now, what chance do they stand.

metal fans, such as myself and here on this board, are going to take a big steaming shit on earache for this, while the fans who remain with this band are going to be confused also. where do they plan to buy them exposure? the next issue of Circus? the kids who read that joke of a mag have no fucking clue what Earache even is. or, they'll put ads in metal maniacs and we're back to square one, with the real metalheads pissed off.

that totally mediocre bands like that get signed AGAIN..in 2004. It's so over. They were nameless, faceless, forgetable bands in the first place. These nu-metal bands aren't the kind that are going to come around again in 2024 like Exodus or Priest. No one cares. Hello?

Pulkas weren't really nu metal- they just came out at the wrong time in the wrong place. Earache tried really hard to break them, but didn't manage it. Earache have always signed different styles of music- it'sjust that they've been extreme styles. Nobody batted an eyelid when Ultraviolence were signed. But to sign such an obviously bollocks band as Adema is a little strange. It's been scientifically proven that you can't polish a turd, so why keep trying?

Why do some of you still think that your precious scene is still 'underground'? The scene has gotten more exposure over the last two years then they ever have before. All these 'nu-metal' poseurs you speak of are all herding over 'real' metal anyways. A lot more people are aware of Earache/Nuclear Blast/Metal Blade then you think.

The genre you call nu-metal is dead, only a few have made it, like expected. The rest are being dropped from labels, quitting, or of course releasing statements that their next record is going to be 'heavier', or trying their hardest to jump back on the trend i.e. Machine Head.

no earache wont become the next roadrunner, roadrunner had a better sense of timing since they at least jumped on the shitwagon while it was hot, earache waited for the whole thing to almost die out first, so they can alienate most of their fans and not make any new ones to compensate for this, has earache done ANYTHING right since 1996?

They've done loads right since 1996, most notably The Haunted, which makes this Adema nonsense all the more hard to swallow. But in the last few years Earache has released Mortiis, Misery Loves Company, December Wolves, Usurper, and, the best of the lot, the horribly underrated Gandalf. Not to mention Without Face, Rakoth, Lunaris and a few other bits and pieces on it's Elitist imprint. It's a fucking great label when it wants to be. But it won't be for much longer if it keeps signing shit like Adema.

what people think of Adema, I like 'em. Their first album was awesome.

I know they're not metal, I don't care. Earache's just trying to make a larger profit by signing a more well-known (even if it's not a huge) band. Can't say I blame them... if you people were making a record label you'd never turn a profit just by signing underground metal.
