ESP GUITARS Introduces New DAVE MUSTAINE Signature Guitar Model - Jan. 24, 2005
ESP Guitars has debuted the Axxion, a new Signature Series guitar from MEGADETH founder Dave Mustaine. The Axxion (pronounced "Action") represents an entirely new custom-designed body style built to Mustaine's specification. It's the guitarist's second ESP signature model, joining the DV-8 introduced last year.

"Working with Dave on his signature models has been terrific," says Matt Masciandaro, ESP president. "He has very exacting standards, and is focused on the details that make a guitar both incredibly playable and full of attitude. The double-X in the name 'Axxion' is commemorative of MEGADETH's 20 years, and we're proud to help create the guitar that celebrates two decades of great metal."

Designed for serious rockers, the Axxion's menacing axe-like shape is accentuated with black hardware on its all-black finish. It features a neck-thru-body construction with a 25.5" scale. Tremendous tone is generated through its mahogany body and 3-piece mahogany neck. The Axxion's ebony fingerboard is decorated with custom "XX" inlays. It offers Seymour Duncan JB and Jazz pickups at the neck and bridge, controlled via 2 volume and 1 tone control with 3-way toggle. Hardware on the Axxion includes Sperzel locking tuners, Dunlop flushmount straplocks, and a TonePros locking bridge.

The Axxion will also be available as a slightly more affordable model under the LTD brand, with the primary difference being the implementation of a rosewood fingerboard (instead of ebony on the ESP model).

In related news, Mustaine has also lent his name to another new guitar for LTD, the more affordable DV-200. Based on the popular DV-8 model introduced last year, the DV-200 offers a similar "V" body style in a bolt-on maple neck and basswood body design.

Specific details on the Axxion as well as all new ESP, LTD and X-Tone models can be found here.

What's wrong with the good 'ol Flying V???

Warlock/Mockingbird and not to mention the lower cutaway bears resemblance to an Iceman. But, I wish Dave would go back to playing that sick looking Bich he played for awhile. Gotta love those old B.C. Richs.

that is true...he did admit it several times. He couldn't buy Jackson, they sold Jackson to Fender. so he got pissed, and switched to another company, dave is a great player, and ESP is a pretty good company. but i don't think that was a reason to leave your old company...IMO.

maybe there were more reasons that he left jackson...who knows..

one thing i do know is JACKSON's RULE!!!!

LONG LIVE RHOADS!

I think the truckster is a pretty nice looking guitar. Not too into mustaine's, though.

I could'nt really enjoy playing an explorer, probably due to the awkward weight distribution.. I had one for a few weeks and got rid of it. and the Rhoads V? oh man.. very nice. especially the non-floyd rose trem models.

...Cause of the jackson sale thing. And after Jackson was bought by Fender, they offered him the same contract that all endorsers got, which is one guitar a year (even Clapton gets only one). Before the fender thing, Jackson used to give him 11 guitars a year. That's why he jumped to ESP.

How can we make stringing a guitar into a long, tedious, mindnumbing process? Ta da. FRTL.

I've played the Washburn Dimebag w/ FRTL and it definitely stayed in tune and stuff, and the guitar sounded really good, but still, I'm grateful I didn't have to ever string it.

It's not collecting dust. It's safe in it's case. It's just that when I play along to songs, I change the intonation a lot and it's a bitch with the Rhoads V. I have to get the hex wrench, undo the lock and then real fun begins. With the Explorer I tune up, tune down. It's a snap. Ease of use comes in handy when fryin' on shrooms or LSD.

I will say this. Having it, knowing that I own it, that I can pick it up anytime is quite satisfying. I really do love that guitar, but I'm a lazy fuck. I'll always take the path of least resistance.

cock your head to the right a little bit, or turn the guitar counter-clockwise slightly, the body of the Axxion sort of resembles the state of Texas. Then again, i've been known to smoke alot of pot.

Regardless, i'm sure those guitars comfortable, and sounds good, and the DV-200 is pretty damn nice.

Exactly. They make stringing your guitar a long-ass process, just frustrating. My main guitar has the Sperzel Locking Tuners, and honestly I think thats the best tradeoff possible. You can still dive-bomb the crap out of it, and it really does stay in excellent tune.

i own three esp v-350's. it was the mustaine ( V ) model before he got his hands on it.

there's no cheesy eight ball inlay, no cheesy f'n pick guard, and no goddamn string thru body. floyd rose all the way!!!

they are without a doubt the sweetest playing guitar (under a grand) on the planet.

but, like dekompoze, i've been known to smoke alot of pot.

i also own a jackson king v, and a jackson dinky. both very solid instruments. but the features can't touch an ESP.

didn't know about Dave's bid for Jackson.

I kinda figured since it seems a lot of people have been moving their deals over to ESP that maybe since the Fender buyout that freebies were at a minimum.

The new model on closer inspection -plus some insight provided by ya'll - does resemble part Mockingbird, part Iceman, part giant bottle opener, all mutated into a very stoned (Dali-esque, even?) state of Texas. Not real high on my Christmas list.

Please forward all leftover Jackson Randy Rhodes models to:

Also, if you're not sure if you want to send your Jackson Randy Rhoads to BT, then please send them to me:

re: Pete's Piano Bar on 6th

I think it's still there-it seems that her's maybe TWO piano bars? One on the North side of the street on a corner-and one on the South side in the middle of the block?

I've never been into either one, but I HAVE heard and amazing/excrutiating PIANO version of "Walk this way" drifitng out of one of 'em before...

In other Sixth Stree news: Joes Generic Bar, longtime home of the Blues in on Sixth Street, closed down after 19 years just a couple of months ago. One week later, Joe himself was found dead-SHOT TEN TIMES in the doorway of his home. Weird.

No word yet on whether Metallica or Marilyn Manson inspired the killing.

I saw Dave jamming too, man he is without a doubt pretty killer man. even knowing i am not this HUGE fan of him/megadeath I still respect the mans ability to Jam the fuck out!!!!. Dave even signed auto graphs. I was impressed by so much in three days I really couln't talk about one thing in one sentence...

Blackviolin..the shape of the instrument is very important, if it is not to you. You never really had one heheheh!!!
