SHAI HULUD To Release METAL BLADE Debut In Early 2007
- Aug. 19, 2006
SHAI HULUD is back together and has recently signed a deal with Metal Blade Records. The band is about to hit the road for a string of dates in Europe with PARKWAY DRIVE and REMEMBERING NEVER. Shortly after SHAI HULUD returns to the States, they will head out with DEAD TO FALL, TWELVE TRIBES, and labelmates PHOENIX MOURNING for the "Call No Man Happy Who Is Not Dead Tour", sponsored by PureVolume, LambGoat and Metal Maniacs. Once the band is done touring, they will spend the winter months writing material for their Metal Blade debut, which will be out in the spring/summer 2007.
Commented SHAI HULUD's Matt Fox: "Having been intensely fanatic about the majority of their bands (yes, even THE GOO GOO DOLLS, but more so CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER) for upwards of 20 years, we are honored to be welcomed to their family. Like I told the label, Metal Blade may very well be more responsible for raising me than my mother. Sorry Mom, but you must admit I spent quite a lot of time with SLAYER and VOIVOD in those formative years...
"We plan on spending this coming winter writing for our Metal Blade debut. This summer, in case those interested aren't aware, we are touring Europe with our pals in REMEMBERING NEVER and PARKWAY DRIVE. We follow that up with two three-week jaunts in the States with yet more pals of ours; the first three weeks we'll be out with DEAD TO FALL and PHOENIX MOURNING. The second three weeks 100 DEMONS picks up where DEAD TO FALL leaves off, and Iowa's premier bodybuilders IGNITE THE WILL join us for select dates. TWELVE TRIBES and ONE DEAD THREE WOUNDED will be rocking the tour all six weeks. All in all, that's not such a bad way to spend some time. We're more than happy to worsen our hearing with such quality noise. We're definitely too old. Turn it down!"

uuhhh no...wrong there. Their old vocalist formed New Found Glory. Now they have a new one. And it's NOT a super group. Whoever told you that is a moron. Shai Hulud have been around for quite some time.

Shai Hulud is a metalcore band. The name comes from the giant sandworms in Frank Herbert's Dune.
The band is famous within the hardcore scene for their often complex compositions, misanthropic lyrics and revolving-door line-up. Originally hailing from Florida, the band later moved up to Poughkeepsie, NY. The two mainstay members of Shai Hulud are considered to be Matt Fox (guitar) and Matt Fletcher (originally guitar, but then moved on to bass), who together write most of the band's musical output. After the release of 2003's "That Within Blood Ill-Tempered" and a number of tours going into the subsequent year, vocalist Geert Van Der Velde decided to leave the band. Initially, most people took this as the end of Shai Hulud, despite their previously high membership turnover rate, and this seemed to be the case until Matt Fox and Matt Fletcher came out on the band's homepage indicating that they would not be breaking up; instead, the band would change name to The Warmth of Red Blood and continue what had started with Shai Hulud. At the same time, they also started requesting that anyone who considered themselves up for the challenge of taking over vocal duties record a demo of themselves performing the track "Whether To Cry Or Destroy" (quite similar to the audition fellow hardcore maniacs The Dillinger Escape Plan did when auditioning new vocalists). In March of 2006, the band announced they were abandoning the moniker 'The Warmth Of Red Blood' and returning to the name Shai Hulud.
Surprisingly, the band seems to, despite the misanthropy that is their trademark, harbor a dry sense of humor, most notably on their web page, in liner notes and on the recently released record "A Comprehensive Retrospective: Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Release Bad and Useless Recordings".
In August of 2006, the band signed with Metal Blade Records. Shai Hulud also have a side project named Zombie Apocalypse, whose sound can be summed up as a faster, more chaotic and more manic version of its mother band. It features Matt Fox and Matt Fletcher.

I was kidding.
But the fact that this band has anything at all to do with New Found Glory means that no matter how real, how underground or how personable they are, they will have a tremendously difficult time garnering respect from the metal community.

Ha ....
Cool thanks for the writeup and discography infos...
I always see their stuffs in the hardcore section, so I know they must be either. Heavier than hell with their own sound or just heavier than hell and thrash for its own sake.
In the case of hardcore bands just being heavier than Bezerker on Earache Records is MORE THAN good enough !!!!!!!!
COMMENT | I always loved especially the first ep and the first album... posted by : cyxxon 8/20/2006 8:05:43 AM
...and whenI saw them live they played one heck of a show, boiling circle pit and all, and yes, I have always been more metal then hardcore. Great melodies and song structures, you really oughta check them out.

SH is most defenitly a hardcore band with hardcore roots.
Chad Gilbert sand was an original vocalist of SH, and now plays guitar for New Found Glory. (Which isn't a bad thing, considering they are one of very few good pop-punk bands)
I'm looking forward to the new material.

Nu-Hardcore is gay. The only hardcore that matters is Negative Approach, Siege, Void, The Accused, DRI, Die Kreuzen, the list goes on. Modern Hardcore is for fairys
........................
Liar !!!!!
You know you would be the first one to complain thie first time a band was a equal mix of Negative Approach / Siege, Void, The Accused, DRI, Die Kreuzen.
YOU WOULD SCREAM RIP-OFF !!!!!!!!!
You hate when bands are retro-thrash and you hate when bands create a new modern version of the genre you claim your a fan of.
What is your imaginary year of when vintage hardcore punk became deceased, you know the day where they just do not make them like they used to any more.
Frosty the snowman should be frozen in time... say in 1983, before Bathory and Possessed had a excellent idea what to do with those hardcore punk influences.
