SWEET: 'Are You Ready Steve?' Tour Announced - May 5, 2008
The reactivated SWEET, led by bassist/vocalist Steve Priest, will embark on the "Are You Ready Steve?" 2008 tour this summer.

The original SWEET was formed by Priest along with vocalist Brian Connolly, drummer Mick Tucker and guitarist Frank Torpey (later replaced by Andy Scott) in the UK and rose to fame with such hits as "Ballroom Blitz", "Fox on the Run", "Love is Like Oxygen", "Little Willy", "Hellraiser", "Teenage Rampage", "Blockbuster", "Action" and many others.

The 2008 SWEET tour will be a tribute to Connolly and Tucker whose tragic deaths were terribly premature. The trek kicks off June 12 at The Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood, with guitarist Stuart Smith, singer Joe Retta, drummer Richie Onori and keyboardist Stevie Stewart.

Fans of the group can look forward to hearing all the hits, and more, played as they were meant to be heard, with an energetic stage show that will be second to none.

The band will also perform on the "Mark & Brian" radio show on Thursday, June 5 at 9 a.m. The program is heard on KLOS in Los Angeles and ten other western markets.

Upcoming SWEET shows:

June 12 - The Whisky - Hollywood, CA
June 13 - The Canyon Club - Agoura, CA
July 11 - The Moondance Jam - Minneapolis, MN
July 12 - The Common Ground Festival - Lansing, MI
July 19 - Rock n Resort Festival - North Lawrence, OH
July 25 - Rock The Park - London, ON
July 26 - The Mattawa Voyageur Days - Mattawa, ON
Aug. 23 - Festival Of Lights - Petersborough, ON
Aug. 30 - Morongo Casino - Cabazon, CA

Brian Connolly had one of the most amazing voices EVER. It is truly a shame that he drank himself to death, the music world lost a vocalist with immense talent.

Sweet recorded some of the best music of the 1970's during their peak years of 1973-1976. Not many people got to see them live, especially here in the States. I would like to see this tour, just to reminisce about the greatness that was.

The American version of Desolation Boulevard was a bad ass record. Sweet F.A., Set Me Free, Into the Night: one incredible rocker after another. Give Us a Wink was really solid too. They've got a lot of great songs. It's too bad that Priest and Scott can't get together, though.

I got the Live at the Marquee. Very good, harder than the more pop oriented stuff. But it's all good. Hell even the 6 teens is kind of a cool song.

Yeeeeaaaaaaaaah set me free...from youuuuuu!

They may have not intended it, but Sweet were one of the forefathers of metal in some weird twisted way. It was totally by accident, but there's all sorts of crazy metal guitar riffs out in the world being reused today that originated on old Sweet albums. This band rules.

sweet has always been one of my all time favorite bands. i had the honor of seeing them and meeting them at 2 clubs in florida. once at the station in orlando, and another time at the power station in melbourne. it was only mick tucker and andy scott with two other guys, i wish steve and brian were there so that it could have been the original band, but i gotta admit andy and mick rocked the house. andy played the guitar the only way he can as well as singing the high backing vocals and mick just held it down behind him. very underrated band. they were real cool and autographed my stuff and talked to me as well as inviting me out to their next gig, which of course i took 'em up on it. i think they influenced metal as well, especially their heavier tracks like action, which is my all time favorite sweet song and andy scott's guitar playing rules on that song, even though the rest of the band is as good as well, his playing shines on that one. i think they influenced bands like van halen, motley crue, cheap trick, kiss, etc, and me as well to become musicians. i can't wait to hear action, teenage rampage, set me free, hellraiser, and the list goes on and on. i'll admit their lighter poppier stuff wasn't my cup of tea and i can respect their wanting to be more versatile, but they were a great rocknroll band when they wanted to make great hard rocking songs. pick up a copy of steve's autobiography if you can get one. he used to send out personally autographed copies and it's a great book. it's kind of like a british version of motley crue's the dirt before the crue even wrote their story.
