SEBASTIAN BACH Says Joining VELVET REVOLVER Would Be 'Really Awkward'

Former SKID ROW frontman Sebastian Bach was interviewed yesterday (Tuesday, May 6) on "The Buckethead Show" on Tampa's 98 Rock radio station. The entire nine-minute chat is now available for streaming and download at this location. During the interview, Bach was asked if there is any truth to the rumors that he is being considered for the lead-singer position in VELVET REVOLVER following that group's recent split with Scott Weiland. "I've talked to Slash [ VELVET REVOLVER/ex- GUNS N' ROSES guitarist] recently," Sebastian revealed. "I think it'd be really awkward for me to join that band. Number one, my new record, 'Angel Down', I like it more than VELVET REVOLVER records. That's just being totally honest. I love GUNS N' ROSES material, but I've got my own old songs — SKID ROW — so for me, it would all depend on music. I wouldn't just join the band just to join the band. If we came up with some incredible new songs, then maybe I'd think about it, but honestly, I'm very close friends with Axl [ Rose, GUNS N' ROSES singer], and he sings three songs on my new record. I think Dr. Pepper owes me a case of free soda. [Laughs] [Referring to the Dr. Pepper soft drink company's announcement that it will offer a free can of its signature soda to 'everyone in America' if GN'R releases its long-delayed new album, 'Chinese Democracy', in 2008 — Ed.] Axl's been so nice to me — he's helped me out my whole career. In SKID ROW he helped us out, and in my solo band he brought me around the world, and then sang three songs on my new CD, which is pretty mind-blowing. I don't know… It's a cut-throat business, but Axl's been so nice to me, I don't think I would feel comfortable just joining VELVET REVOLVER and singing his songs every night. So I don't think that's gonna happen."

By the time GNR gets back together or releases this stupid album nobody will care, maybe in europe or japan; people are tired of BS and there are too many new great bands out there. I really would hate to hear those awful 80/90's songs such as the awful contrived, "you could be mine."

I totally get that Baz dont wanna get on bad foot with W.A.R. But I think that he joining VR would be what most people wanted in the first place. Hm..maybe get another name for the band "Bach feat. VR"?

Velvet Revolver is a crappy supergroup, their both albuns are mediocre, the songwriting is totally unispired.
Slash and Duff should call Izzy. Unlike them, HE can actually write good music.

Good answer by Baz... why ruin a good thing with Axl by joining the other side and then likely end up being hated by both sides eventually... assuming them eventually boot him out as well.

The reason Sebastian wasn't picked was because Slash thought they sounded too much like Skid Row, and he was right. VR were just starting off and they needed to forge an identity for themselves, not try and sound like a Skid Row clone. Bach has a very defining and distinguishing voice. Anyone listening to him singing would go "hey thats skid row". Moreover Bach has a very strong stage presence that would easily overshadow Slash, Duff and Matt and that is obviously something that they would not want.

I respect him for doing this. Angel Down was a killer METAL CD, I'm not sure what to expect with him at VR, but I have a feeling that it will be more of the same old crap. If they actually tried to write some good bluesy hard rock/metal then maybe Bach would fit. Besides, even with all the praise I'm giving him, he's still a diva.

The last time i saw VR , and it wasn't too long ago, it wasn't in an arena and it sure wasn't a sell out, I dont think they can draw a crown any bigger than Poison, in fact, i would say that Poison has had crowds in their day that VR will never be able to draw, and in 20 years from now, VR will still be behind record sales from Poison.

What a sham. If it was offered, he would take it. I just hope that Slash saw part of that Supergroup show so he knows that Bach is as much of a whackjob as Weiland and Axl. If they pick him, it will go beyond the poor judgment of the past and into an area that can only be characterized as a masochistic death wish.

I can't believe that the media keeps asking sebastian bach if he's going to join VR. THEY NEVER ASKED HIM TO JOIN. Scott Weiland said that they should contact Bach as a tounge and cheek insult to the rest of VR and everyone blew it out of proportion. Jesus how dumb.

Velvet Revolver's tuneage is mediocre at best. Great musicians, but boring songs. "Slither" was the best thing they wrote together... everything else is snoresville.
I respect Baz for having principles, but how would he benefit from joining VR? Everyone knows they are past their best before date. Seriously.

i think the 2 velvet revolver's records sucked, ive been a huge gnr fan for almost 17 years,(since 1990-91) VR have to stop putting out shitty records, and sit down with axl and sort the shit out¡. oh, and now that the moron weiland is gone, give izzy a call so he could write some cool shit with slash.
