LED ZEPPELIN's JOHN PAUL JONES Confirms Plans To Hit Road Without ROBERT PLANT - Oct. 27, 2008
According to eGigs.co.uk, LED ZEPPELIN bassist John Paul Jones has confirmed reports that that he, guitarist Jimmy Page and drummer Jason Bonham — following the band's one off appearance at O2 Arena, London last year — were itching to get out on the road. Singer Robert Plant has already announced that he has no plans to join them, as he was committed to his work with Alison Krauss, although they could be reunited with him in "a couple of years."

In the meantime, the rest of the band is looking for a new frontman before hopefully taking to the road.

Regarding their touring and recording plans, John Paul Jones said during an appearance at this past weekend's Mansons Guitar Show in Exeter, Devon, UK, "I'm afraid, there's no final answer yet. As you probably know, Jimmy, Jason and I are actually rehearsing and we've had the odd singer come in and have a bash. As soon as we know — which we don't — we will let you know. But we really hope that something is going to happen soon because we really want to do it and we're having a lot of fun, actually, just rehearsing. Jason is actually tremendous… he's really taking chances. He is a very brave man… Every other drummer in the world was watching him thinking [at the reunion show], 'That could have been me.' He's creative and really fun. We really want to do something and Robert doesn't want to do this sort of thing, at least for the moment. I don't really know what his plans are. He is touring with Alison, as you know. . . He really doesn't want to make loud music anymore. We do. I mean, I love acoustic music, but it doesn't stop me from turning something up . . . And what we've done so far sounds absolutely fantastic. When it does come, it will come, and you'll know about it."

Video footage of the question-and-answer session at Mansons Guitar Show can be viewed below. Also available is footage of Jones' jam session at the event.

If Ann is singing, I would go see this in a heartbeat. If John and Robert want to do some touring and Jason is in and they need a singer, I say go for it. If Robert wants to pursue other avenues, then so be it. Maybe down the road they can reunite.

Gotta say, Ann Wilson WOULD be an interesting choice.:)

I have no problem with the three of them going out without Robert Plant, if Robert is really going to be that stubborn. But they shouldn't go as Led Zep without Plant's involvement. They should do something like Black Sabbath did when they went out with Dio and choose the name of a song or album.

"Robert doesn't want to do loud music anymore"

What it is, is that Robert doesn't want to deal with the pressure of singing high every night and falling short of fan expectations. As a singer, he knows he can't live up to the guy he was in the 70's.

It's easier for the instrumentalist to be anxious to do this.

Ok they were a hair band back in the day but they are still together. I thought this dude would always be a fit should something like this come up (Plant not wanting to join Zep again).
No one can replace Plant ..but this would be a great filler.

Just listen to this vocalist and you decide.

1. Chris Cornell- For the same reason I don't like him for VR. He can hit the notes, and since this will just be a tour, you don't have to count on him for long.

2. Ann & Nancy Wilson- You need both

3. Ronnie James Dio- The Heaven & Hell thing is about done, and since Ozzfest is back next year, Tony and Geezer are otherwise occupied.

4. David Coverdale- Obvious

5. David Lee Roth- For comedic value. Actually DLR should be picked because he's so egotistical that he would actually start insinuating that he IS Led Zep and that they should have made this move back in '77. This might piss off Robert Plant enough to come back!

But seriously folks, I am much more looking forward to hearing and seeing Chickenfoot next year. Better musicians (now), great singer, and the hope that the Chili Peppers may call it a day !!!!

I think Sammy would be great here. He is in to the "supergroup" thing, and it about the same age and from the same original era. Hagar can still hit the high notes that he did with Van Halen.

I can't remember his name, and I know it will never happen, the the lead singer of Great White, I think it might be Jack Russell, would be excellent vocal wise. Great White did some Led Zepplin covers a few years back, and he sounded almost exactly like the Robert Plant of the 70's.

Why is this such a big deal... The guitar sound defined zeppelin as much if not more then Plants vocals. And if page feels like touring as zeppelin yet plant doesn't... still doesn't after all these years... When exactly is he going to change his mind? And if he ever does by then they might not be able to put on a good show on anymore.. which right now they can. p

People here are full of shit because they still can circa now, the reunion shows where amazing, And not just because of the nostalgic trip.

So All the power to them.

chris cornell is the *only* rock singer that could pull this off, vocally and charismatically. i saw him do a ripping version of "whole lotta love", and generally, his voice is similar to and greater than plant's best performances (dazed and confused, for instance, sounds like early 90s cornell). saw him again last night, and i have to say, off camera and in the moment he is the best singer i have ever seen.

i would, without a doubt, pay more for that than i would for a plant-fronted tour.

Do you know if Robert Plant cares about selling out arenas? Been there, done that. He doesn't want to destroy the legacy. His voice is not there anymore for a full LED ZEPPELIN tour. A tour with HUGE expectation. We should respect him for that.

Rob Halford - same argument as DIO, and would add more power to the band

Maynard James Keenan - Would never happen, really weird to see, but I see it as a success for some reason

You really have to be to want to see Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant. Ann Wilson is a brilliant suggestion and would do a good job but it will just not satisfy. Forget the rest.

Due to demand the shows will be dragged around the football stadium circuit with all the echo discomfort and lack of atmosphere you could ask for. Jimmy hasn't played particularily well for decades and has frequently played shockingly badly. JPJ and Jason will just not be able to make up for it. Without Robert it will be a cold blooded business.
