Police Report: MASTODON's HINDS Clashed With SYSTEM OF A DOWN's ODADJIAN

Aaron Thompson of the Las Vegas Weekly reports: Turns out, Tommy Lee vs. Kid Rock was only the undercard on [MTV Video Music Awards] night.
According to a Metro police report released Monday, the September 10 fight that landed MASTODON frontman Brent Hinds in University Medical Center's intensive care unit with brain hemorrhaging, a broken nose and two black eyes began as a skirmish between Hinds and Shavo Odadjian, bassist for multiplatinum metal band SYSTEM OF A DOWN.
According to the police report — based on firsthand accounts and corroborated by hotel-security video footage — an inebriated Hinds was leaving Mandalay Bay around 3 a.m. when he encountered Odadjian and musician William Hudson at the hotel's west valet area. Hinds took off his shirt and hit Odadjian with it, then struck Hudson in both the face and chest, prompting Odadjian to advise Hinds "to relax," several times, according to the police report.
The police report then indicates both Odadjian and Hudson punched Hinds in the face, knocking him to the ground. An unidentified friend of Hinds, who reportedly witnessed the event, rushed to the musician’s aid and apologized to Odadjian and Hudson, saying Hinds was "just drunk," according to the police report. Odadjian and Hudson were both questioned by police on the scene.
No charges had been filed at press time, though the police report lists Hudson as a "suspect," facing a possible charge of "battery with substantial bodily harm." The police report lists Odadjian as a "witness."
According to the police report, tensions ran high after Hinds began drunkenly "annoying" Odadjian and Hudson inside the Palms following the conclusion of the VMAs.

As a fan of SOAD as well as more traditional metal bands like Slayer, Sabbath, etc let me lay it out for you plain and simple
SOAD has said in their interviews that they arent about throwing the first stone...Shavo in particular said that if someone attacked him or he percieved to be attacking him, he would have no issue with knocking them the fuck out.
Furthermore not all left leaning people are hippies...ever hear "Ashes of the Wake" or "Now You've Got Something to Die For" by Lamb of God? pretty sure the boys in LoG are as far from hippies as is possible. Also as a so called "hippie" Im just waiting for that fucking shit for brains Bush to try to impose martial law...Id gladly die leading a revolt against this monster he and Reagan loving shit-heads have turned this country into. Leave the country? No...a true patriots call is to take it back for the people, whom the constitiution states that sovreignty rests with.

Fuck that. If Brent's going to start fights, then he has to be prepared for the beat down. On the other hand, it is a punk move for Shavo and his friend to jump a drunk man. I can understand Shavo for throwing some punches defend himself, but I'm sure he didn't need any help.

When I first read the news that Hinds was hospitalized, I assumed it was because he was drunk and pissed someone off. He can be an asshole -- I've experienced this firsthand after a show before they released Leviathan.
The fact that it was the bassist from SOAD -- I did not see that coming.

I love Mastodon but I've heard that Brent can be a handful, to be polite. That said, apparently Brent underestimated Shavo's ass-beating ability. Add in the fact that Shavo was with a friend demonstrates beer-muscles (aka poor judgement) on Brent's part. As a Mastodon fan, I hope he gets better for the sake of the band, but as a person who hit first...well, you get what you get, and yes, Brent "got knocked the fuck out" :(

I'm still trying to figure out how people somehow worked politics into this. Drunk dude screw with people, and sometimes they get messed up for it, period. Hinds needs to control himself when he's drunk and not get into fights like a jackass... and if he does decide to get into fights he should at least make sure he isn't too drunk to fight. Or at least not pick a fight with two people at once.
And as for this William Hudson guy and Shavo... well, I may not be a fan of SOAD, but he had to defend himself. I just hope he doesn't feel like a hardass because of this considering it seems his friend Hudson did most the fighting for him. Well, I can only speculate that considering that Hudson is the one that is a suspect and Shavo is just a witness at the moment.
Oh well, fighting doesn't solve anything. Years of experience. heh.

Who knows what really happened, but according to the report, I'd say all involved were out of line. Brent shouldn't have behaved the way he did. And I really doubt that both Shavo and Hudson needed to punch a drunk Brent. They must have felt rather threatened. Pussies.

nvcameron, ok, you Armenian badass. You're trying to argue that all Armenians will kill their attackers but Hinds got lucky. How did he get lucky exactly? You're contradicting yourself by claiming that Armenians will kill BUT Hinds somehow survived. So this implies that Hinds somehow overcame the strength and killing ability of his Armenian attacker.
But then you try to compensate for your claim that Armenians will kill by emphasizing that Brent got "knocked the fuck out" by one Armenian and one non-Armenian.
This incident throws quite a wrench into your belief that Armenians kill. Shavo the Armenian certainly did not kill Hinds, but he did manage to knock him down but only with the help of a non-Armenian. So how do you still claim that Armenians kill when Chavo the Armenian did not kill Brent? Far from killing him, Chavo and his friend both punched Brent in the face.
I don't see that Chavo and his friend did anything spectacular in terms of fighting or defending themselves. You seem to be trying to convince readers that Armenians in general hold the ability to kill whenever they are threatened physically. Your argument gives no evidence of its validity.

Someone needs to put Hinds in Rehab for a few years. He is a raging alcoholic, and gets wasted drunk everyday. He constantly tries to pick fights with his band mates, other bands, and road crew when in that condition. He's been decked by many people, in many places, many times! This isn't the first time, and it won't be the last unless this dude gets some help. I've met him, seen him this way, and he's friends with someone I know. Eventhough he's met me, he tried to pick me up a few weeks ago at a show in Atlanta he was at. I had to remind him that he was friends with my boyfriend of 7 years, and he was very apoligetic. He just can't handle alcohol period. I should know, I stopped drinking for the same reason. Alcohol and I are not compatable. He's just not to the point of accepting that as him yet. As far as Shavo, he is a really nice guy. I know for a fact that this was all Bret, and Shavo was probably just trying to get through the hotel and Bret kept fucking with him.... Enough is enough.... I guess the only way passage could finally be made was with knocking Bret out... I do however feel bad about the Brain hemmorage thing, although he should stop drinking and fucking with people when he's drunk....
