VAN HALEN + RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS = CHICKENFOOT - May 28, 2008
According to The Pulse of Radio, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith has joined the new "supergroup" started by former VAN HALEN frontman Sammy Hagar. The band, tentatively called CHICKENFOOT, also features ex-VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony and guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani and will enter the studio to begin recording its debut album this summer. Smith told The Pulse of Radio he got involved in the project by owning a home near Hagar's place in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. "If you're in Cabo, of course you know Sammy 'cause he's, you know, he rules the joint," he said. "And he's a really nice man, he's a great guy actually. Somehow he's taken a liking to me, and we played in Vegas, and we played some cover songs — we're a good cover band now. He got pretty excited about it and it actually sounded really good. Him and Joe got together up at his place and they wrote like five things together, and we'll see."

Hagar himself spoke about the project in a recent interview, explaining, "We've written eight, nine songs...When people hear the music, it's LED ZEPPELIN. It's as good as that. I know that's a mighty bold statement...We could rival ZEP."

Hagar sang with VAN HALEN from 1986 to 1996, and again on a 2004 reunion tour, but left both times after feuding with guitarist Eddie Van Halen. Hagar said recently about his relationship with the troubled guitar hero, "I love Eddie, but we don't love each other. I heard that he got cleaned up again. Hopefully he stays that way and doesn't die, because before we both die we have to be friends again."

Chad Smith has been playing with former DEEP PURPLE bassist/singer Glenn Hughes as well as his own jazz combo since the CHILI PEPPERS came off the road last year after touring in support of 2006's "Stadium Arcadium" CD.

lol ya know, I dont know why I stopped to view something from a band called Chickenfoot..lol But, out of the corner of my eye I saw Sammy, Micheal, and this whole thing with Chad.
to be quite frank, Chad is an EXCEPTIONAL percussionist. I have respected RHCP in the past, not really my cup of tea,but...I give it its props. I heard Chad do some solo work and was blown away at how "technical" he is, very impressed.
ok...lol Now..lol back to this whole storyline.
After seeing this it had already grabbed my attention and started reading only to find out that freakin JOE SATRIANI is joining them as well? ::slaps forehead and falls to the ground::
Are U Freakin Kidding Me?
Ok...I never have liked that whole supergroup crap, but this is beyond what I would have ever imagined being in a lineup.
We have very very very diverse talents here and this could be very interesting. Personally, I cant see this being a "ok" album. To me, it will either be crappy as all hell or the breakout blockbuster of the decade.
wow ...what a lineup.
Someone mentioned the "band" element with Joe. I TOTALLY agree, this will be VERY interesting to see how Joe conforms to being an accompanyment.
wow...still blown away at this

Hagar's just pissed, because the Reunion tour is doing well and that butt sniffer Michael Anthony was not invited back in the reunion, because he took Hagar's side on things over the band's.

RHCP needs to get back in the studio and write a record to stop this awful crap.

this is gonna sound incredibly like Van Hagar. (hagar era van halen) with his vocals and mikes bass and a guitar virtuoso with fast technical solos, and a brilliant percussionist on drums.
this is basically sammy hagar mike anthony and eddie and alex van halen step ins.
now i'm not taking anything away from satch or chad smith, but i think people will think its hagar era van halen stuff and i'm not sure people will reacte in the way sammy and mike will want them to. i can see it goin the way of velvet revolver. sadly.

He needs to stop drinking so much tequila.

He is a lame, no talent hack who got lucky with his career successes, and then ruined Van Halen.

I cannot wait to miss this 'supergroup'. Too bad the other guys in the band are lowering themselves to his level. I would not want my name or reputation assoicated with such lameness if I were them.

What about NOT doing Chickenfoot so we don't have to endure the pompous sucking? and Joe, btw, you are NOT Ed Van Halen. Playing with Sam makes you look like you wanna blow Eddie even more. For you calling Hagar a hack and no talent. I suggest you put down that hip hop rock and cookie monster vocals metal and listen to what real talent is. Sammy Hagar is one of the premier vocalists in rock and metal.Every band this man has touched has blossomed. Montrose,Solo,HSAS, and yes even VH. Sammy helped VH achieve multiple Platinum albums something the band never achieved with Roth.
Also take into the fact he is also 64 years old. His voice hasn't changed a bit. Something that cannot be said about Roth, or Halford, or Dickinson,Plant, etc....

However I hate when bands compare themself or Music magazines compare a band to Zep. The last time I heard "There the new Zep" was when Magazines wrote about Badlands when they first started out. Great band but not even close to Zeppelin.

Satch is my main man. hagar with satch??? takes me back to the ronnie montrose days. sammy's first efforts with an awesome guitarist. but i forsee this as being a conflict of talent. mike anthony has nuthin' on stu hamm. RHCP drummer is good . hagar.. not my favorite.. but he holds his own. i doubt if hagar will be anything but a "look at me..me..me .. and everyone else will take a back seat. i also see satch and drummer carrying the band. and for hagar to say..on par with zepplin.. yeah right. HEY sammy.. how about something original. this project smells of bored musicians lookin to kill time. i hope it sounds good. will buy cd if i like it.. i'm guessing a more traditional rock sound.. ala early 80's. this is of coarse my opinion. worst case senario.. it'll be a career killer for some if not all involved. the name alone gives a clue. HONKIN with bobo comes to mind. blues.

to those who don't like satch.. and think eddie blows him away.. lets see eddie do a live in san francisco double cd set of nothing but guitar solos and virtually flawless playing throughout the whole thing to a sold out show and have the live music sound better than the studio albums to boot. if eddie could do that.. well then i would like him just as well.. but eddie is NO satriani.. but eddie is great in what he does. satch works really hard to perfect his technique. and eddie .. well.. his music has'nt changed all that much. but i have respect for eddie. in fact i have all of his albums with DLR. none with red rocker. i love the old van halen. but satch is my favorite out of 6 guitarist... CHRIS IMPELLITTERI..STEVE VAI.. MICHAEL ANGELO BATIO..REX CARROLL..JASON BECKER. LONG LIVE ROCK AND METAL!
