The music evokes a plethora of emotions such as madness, sadness, loneliness and love. There is a good mixture of upbeat songs and beautiful, slower songs accented with the tinkling of piano keys. The songs that are upbeat may catch you off guard. If you listen closely to the lyrics, the content isn’t nearly as buoyant as you may first think.

NEW SITE CHANGES!

You may have noticed that over the past few months quiet changes have been made to the site. First we gave you new artist pages. Check out your favorite and you'll find widgets, videos, music, and much more. Plus they look great.

A few weeks back we also updated our Artists page. You'll see highlighted artists up top in blue. These change as artists are updated with news, video, and music. This is a great page to make your first port-of-call after the news section!

Today we've relaunched three other pages. Music and Video are all new. You can now embed all of our music and video posted to the site in your blog, web site, or MySpace/Facebook profiles. At the right of these pages you'll see charts driven by what YOU do on our site. You can also leave comments at all songs and videos, rate them, and favorite them in our new profile system (more on that in a sec).

The Releases page has gotten a huge makeover. Every album now has its own home page where you can see the available tracks, rate it, leave a review, or comment on others' reviews. Snazzy huh?

Finally, we just launched our new profile pages. If you're a subscriber to our email newsletters, you can log in, add your own picture, keep track of the latest updates on our site (and partner sites), follow your favorite videos and music, and tell us what bands you want to hear about.

Of course, many of these new features require that you be a member of the site to use them, so please join today!

We are, of course, in a beta phase and need your help to make the site work the best for YOU. "The album's opening track, "Astronaut: A Short History of Nearly Nothing," possesses an epic sense of whimsy. The chorus reaches heavenly heights, allowing Palmer to flex her vocal prowess. The lyrics are both depressing and uplifiting, and one decisive mood can never be pegged. Palmer's gotten more illusory than ever, but that also makes for some of her most interesting output yet-check "Oasis" and "Runs In the Family." The latter bleeds sexual tension with a furious piano melody and speedy chorus."

JUST WHO DO YOU THINK KILLED AMANDA PALMER?

Multi-talented songstress Amanda Palmer is set to release her first solo album, Who Killed Amanda Palmer on Roadrunner Records on September 16th. One half of the creative force behind The Dresden Dolls, Amanda has amassed mountains of critical acclaim touring the world as vocalist, keyboardist and songwriter for her band. By experimenting with broader musical stylings on Who Killed Amanda Palmer, Amanda showcases endless creativity, exposing herself as a woman whose artistic endeavors have no boundaries.

Who Killed Amanda Palmer began as a minimal affair: Amanda decided to record a solo album for piano and voice, made in her bedroom, finished in a week. During a chance meeting with Ben Folds in Australia, the two bonded over mutual loves and suddenly the record was moved out of the bedroom and into Folds' Nashville-based, piano-filled recording studio. With Ben Folds acting as producer, the songs on Who Killed Amanda Palmer (a name initially meant as a Twin Peaks reference that has since come to take on new meanings for Amanda) began to come alive, resulting in what is some of the best recorded work of her multi-faceted career.

Mixing the magical and the macabre, the mundane and the sentimental, Who Killed Amanda Palmer is a musical tour de force, the culmination of nearly ten years' worth of songwriting. Some songs on the album pop and twist with the intensity of their own subject matter while others are soft and intimate, revealing sides of Amanda not usually seen within her work in The Dresden Dolls. Featuring guest turns from the likes of The Dead Kennedys' East Bay Ray (on "Guitar Hero"), St. Vincent's Annie Clark (on a warped take on Carousel's "What's the Use of Wondrin"), cellist Zoe Keating, and string arrangements by master composer Paul Buckmaster, Who Killed Amanda Palmer gives Amanda's compositions new color via expansive instrumentation and glorious arrangements.

Who Killed Amanda Palmer will feature liner notes written by celebrated graphic novelist Neil Gaimen, with whom Amanda will be collaborating on a photography book in tandem with the album's release. Amanda is set to embark on a tour in support of the album this fall.

AMANDA PALMER TO PLAY WITH THE BOSTON POPS

The Dresden Dolls' songwriter/vocalist/keyboardist Amanda Palmer is set to play two very special, once-in-a-lifetime shows with the legendary Boston Pops on June 19th and June 20th as part of the BSO's Edgefest series, which continues to redefine the boundaries of rock and tradition. The shows will take place at Symphony Hall in Boston.

2008 has been an unbelievable year for Amanda Palmer thus far, and shows no signs of slowing down: in addition to starting an innovative fan-generated merchandise company called Post-War Trade, the Dolls released a new record entitled No, Virginia this May, full of new songs, b-sides and previously unreleased material from the last two years. Amanda and drummer Brian Viglione hit the road soon after the album's release for a string of phenomenal shows across the West Coast, and now Amanda is back in her hometown of Boston, preparing for one of the biggest, most prestigious musical undertakings of her career. As a lifelong resident of the city, constantly contributing to its ongoing aural history, Amanda is the perfect fit for this amazing opportunity.
