NEW SITE CHANGES!

You may have noticed that over the past few months quiet changes have been made to the site. First we gave you new artist pages. Check out your favorite and you'll find widgets, videos, music, and much more. Plus they look great.

A few weeks back we also updated our Artists page. You'll see highlighted artists up top in blue. These change as artists are updated with news, video, and music. This is a great page to make your first port-of-call after the news section!

Today we've relaunched three other pages. Music and Video are all new. You can now embed all of our music and video posted to the site in your blog, web site, or MySpace/Facebook profiles. At the right of these pages you'll see charts driven by what YOU do on our site. You can also leave comments at all songs and videos, rate them, and favorite them in our new profile system (more on that in a sec).

The Releases page has gotten a huge makeover. Every album now has its own home page where you can see the available tracks, rate it, leave a review, or comment on others' reviews. Snazzy huh?

Finally, we just launched our new profile pages. If you're a subscriber to our email newsletters, you can log in, add your own picture, keep track of the latest updates on our site (and partner sites), follow your favorite videos and music, and tell us what bands you want to hear about.

Of course, many of these new features require that you be a member of the site to use them, so please join today!

We are, of course, in a beta phase and need your help to make the site work the best for YOU. DVD UNDERGROUND

Last year marked the inaugural Sounds of the Underground Tour, which saw 17 of the best and most brutal metal acts around traverse the U.S. and Canada. On July 2nd, 2005, the tour hit the parking lot of the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ, and with it came almost 5,000 fans. Metal bands like DevilDriver, A Life Once Lost and Strapping Young Lad hammered out their sets alongside hardcore acts like Madball and Throwdown in the sweltering 95+ degree midday heat. As the sun began to set, stalwarts like Chimaira, Poison The Well and From Autumn To Ashes played well into the darkness. All of their passion and power is captured in the Sounds of the Underground Live: Volume 1 DVD. So check out this ECARD featuring 3-minute teaser of all the live footage and backstage chaos you'll find on the DVD, coming to stores June 20th.

As reported earlier, the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival (presented by ESP Guitars and Krank Amps) will return once again to the Palladium in Worcester, Mass. for its 8th edition this year. Friday April 28 tickets are $35.00, Saturday April 29 and Sunday April 30 individual day tickets are $40.00. Three-day passes are $109.50. MASTER! MASTER!

As reported in our partner site Blabbermouth, eight of metal's hottest bands have contributed music to a special re-recording of Metallica's Master of Puppets to mark the 20th anniversary of the landmark album's release, and 25th anniversary of Kerrang! Magazine. The CD will be given away free with Kerrang! issue 1102, which goes on sale April 5. Magazines with the special CD will be available in the usual spots outside of the U.K. - at your favorite record store or book store if they normally import Kerrang! Cleverly entitled Remastered, the CD features exclusive recordings by Trivium, Machine Head, Chimaira, Bullet For My Valentine, Fightstar, Mastodon, Funeral For A Friend, Mendeed, and had its sleeve-notes written by none other than Lars Ulrich. CHIMAIRA UPDATE

As reported earlier by our sister site Blabbermouth.com, Chimaira just posted a long update on their WEBSITE: "So as you probably already know we have lined up quite a bit of touring for the next couple of months. We tried to keep this under wraps and make an official announcement with everyone, but with the powers of the Internet these things are impossible. Hell, the singer of Krokus can't even trim his toenails without Blabbermouth posting it. "Here is the deal... We are doing a Jager-sponsored tour with Arch Enemy, Nevermore, God Forbid and the slowest band on the planet, Hate Eternal. We can't wait to sit behind Roddy and watch his inhuman speed. We also have prepared a very strong alarm system to watch over our beer, Jager and food so that God Forbid can't steal it. Last but not least we are looking forward to sharing the stage with Arch Enemy and Nevermore for the first time. As fans of every single one of these bands, this will be a great tour. I would even call it the definitive spring metal tour. "On to this European tour rumor. It is true that we will be on the first U.K./Europe's Sounds Of The Underground tour. With the exception of Manntis, this is a kick-ass reunion from last summer for us. S.O.T.U. was the most fun we have had on a tour in a long ass time, so it's going to be kick ass to do it all over again. Today The Village Voice annonced the results of their pretigious Pazz & Jop poll, which gathers opinions from 795 music critics about the best albums of 2005. Unfortunately it's not a very METAL-HEAVY poll, but you will find the occasional headbanger within, and we wanted to call special attention to Opeth's Ghost Reveries landing at #79 - which is pretty impressive out of thousands of records. Chimaira's eponymous third album and Roadrunner United's All-Star Sessions also made appearances at #1540 and #1640, respectively.

CHIMAIRA WELCOMES BACK DRUMMER

Chimaira, fresh off a tremendously successful year that saw the release of a critically acclaimed third album and a world tour, has welcomed original drummer Andols Herrick back into the group. "He is a totally different person," enthused singer Mark Hunter. "We jammed the other day and he's a monster behind the kit. There is a lot of passion and excitement in his eyes, I can really tell he is renewed." Andols will hit the road with the band for a handful of headline dates in March and then as they tour with Children of Bodom. Chimaira will official welcome Andols back with a hometown show at Peabody's Down Under on March 31st. Many people got a glimpse into the reasons why Andols originally left the group in Chimaira's DVD, The Dehumanizing Process. Seen pacing parking lots for hours at a time, Andols clearly, was not happy being on the road. "Being away from the band and touring for almost two years made me realize how much I missed it," said Herrick. "Being involved in the Roadrunner 25th album and concert made me realize that this is where I want to be." The reemergence of Andols means that recent drummer Kevin Talley is no longer in the group. "Kevin is an amazing drummer," stated Hunter. "This decision had nothing to do with his skills and everything to do with getting someone back who has been with us since day one. Some of us have known Andols since we were in High School." The split was amicable and Talley is tapped to play drums with The Red Chord on their upcoming US tour. On January 10th, Chimaira released a special edition of their critically acclaimed, eponymous third album. This 2-disc set features the full-length album, seven live songs and two previously unreleased tracks.
