DEVILDRIVER INVADE EUROPE

Dez sez:

First off, lets go back about a month and talk about the shows we did with Gwar. Almost every night was sold out and we in Devildriver would like to thank everyone who came out and supported the tour. We did 56 shows in 60 days and it was a GREAT run. Thanks also go out to the crew that made it all happen, and special thanks go out to GWAR, of course, who treated us with the utmost RESPECT by giving us ample time on stage and NOT limiting the amount of merchandise we were allowed to take with us. We look forward to many more tours together ,and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

At this moment I'm on the bus in Munich, Germany, where Devildriver is on tour with Lamb of God. It's about 3 in the afternoon, there's plenty of snow on the ground, and it's COLD and DARK. The show tonight will finish our run in Germany and tomorrow we head to Italy!

Here are the dates we have done so far: 6 shows in the UK (Nottingham, Stoke, Manchester, Glasgow, Wolverhampton and London), followed by a day off and gig the next night in Amsterdam. We hit Belgium, and then it was into Germany to do Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin, and tonight, Munich. Stop by our Bulletin Board and you can read the fans' OWN ravings about these dates above.

Needless to say, it has been an amazing tour, and we have been treated like family by the L.O.G. guys and crew. They too have given us ample time on stage as well as NOT limiting our merchandise for this run. HUGE thanks go out to there crew for all their help - it has been greatly appreciated.

Some highlights thus far werre London (where the show was sold out and the crowd response was OFF THE HOOK - we can't wait to come back) and Berlin, where most everyone visited what's left of the WALL and walked around buying touristy shit, pieces of the wall, Russian fur hats, etc...good times.

Tomorrow we start 2 dates in Italy: Milan and Trevisto. We finish off the tour by playing 2 dates in Austria (Saltzburg and Vienna), before doing our own headlining dates in Frankfurt, Germany and Paris, France, with The Agony Scene - both shows are SOLD OUT!!! In fact, we've been sharing a bus with The Agony Scene, and I look forward to seeing what this young band will do in the future.

The vibe on this tour has been one of a kind for me. I've really never toured with a more friendly bunch of people in my life. All the thanks in the world go out to Lamb of God and their crew for showing such graciousness to us - here's looking forward to more tours in the future with this GREAT band...Happy Holidays!

I'd also like to thank Roadrunner Records in the UK for all their hard work promoting DevilDriver. Your belief in this band shows by the hard work your staff has been doing to get the band out there - THANKS!!!

What else? We can't wait to come home for Christmas. The band flies home on Dec. 22nd and will take a well-deserved 3 weeks off before going out on tour with In Flames, Trivium and Zao, in the U.S. - click here for dates.

BE ADVISED: we're the 2nd up on a 4-band bill, and will be on stage every night between 8 and 8:30. So get there early if you want to see us.

We've toured with In Flames before in Europe, and are very excited to see are friends this January for a MONSTER of a tour. Also be on the lookout for a new video that will capture us in a live setting. It will be out by Feb. 1st and I think you'll all love what weve done. It's shaping up to be the best to date, and shows you guys what touring is like for US.

Thats it for now...HAIL!

~ DEZ FAFARA

Here's what the band's A&R Rep - Monte Connor - had to say about this release:

"King Diamond peaked early in his career as a solo artist, but oh what a peak it was. An incredibly chilling, morbid, edge-of-your-seat concept album that sounds as cool and badass today as it did back in 1987. The level of musicianship is top notch throughout, especially in the guitar department, with the battling leads of Andy La Rocque and Michael Denner often grabbing the spotlight. The whole band sounds on fire and Roberto Falcao's reverb-drenched, 80's production suits the material perfectly. A must-have for any real metal fan. This was the first Roadrunner release to crack the Billboard Top 200 chart."

Here's what the band's A&R Rep - Monte Connor - had to say about this release:

"Ah, the ever controversial Coal Chamber. The controversy started because Coal Chamber were the very first band after Korn to come out with that then-distinctive nu metal sound. As much as they were maligned back in the day, it is ironic that now, some 500 nu metal bands later, Coal Chamber has had the last laugh because history has been kind to the band and they are now regarded as real innovators of that sound. Some of the songs here are still timeless, like 'Loco,' 'Big Truck,' 'Sway,' and 'Oddity.' Simply put, this was the right record at the right time and it really struck a nerve with the kids in a huge way."

THE END

Today we introduce to you more music from the upcoming Roadrunner United The All-Star Sessions release. This song - titled "The End" (for which a video was recently shot) - comes from captain Dino Cazares, and showcases another side of the release, as Roadrunner United contains songs from most every genre you can name in the metal and rock worlds. Though the other three tracks from Dino are most brutal, we offer you a change of pace compared to the two songs we previously introduced. And speaking of introductions, Dino sets up the song as follows:

"The End"

"This song was conceived in 2001 in Germany backstage in a dressing room at a club. My guitar was plugged into a practice amp, listening through my headphones. I was still on tour with Fear Factory, but writing songs for another project because I knew the breakup was inevitable. And this is what I was feeling at the time.

"I sent the demo over to Rhys Fulber (producer of Demanufacture and Obsolete). He re-wrote the drum programming and added keyboards and samples. Jason "Gong" Jones sang the original version which landed him the gig as the second vocalist for Drowning Pool.

"In 2005 Monte Connor (A&R, Roadrunner) called me and asked if I'd be a team captain (Team Cazares) for the Roadrunner United All Stars. I was honored. He also asked if I would re-record the song. I was hesitant at first because it's more mellow than my usual work, and it's unique because it's not something I would normally write. Monte saw the bigger picture for the song, and him being a good friend I trusted his judgement. So I decided to re-record it.

Roy Mayorga (ex-Soulfly) on drums.
Nadja Peulen (ex-Coal Chamber) on bass.
Logan Mader (ex-Machine Head, Soulfly), guitar harmonics.
Rhys Fulber (Front Line Assembly) on keyboards, programming.

"Now that the music was recorded, picking the singer was the hard part. Monte Conner asked what I thought of Matt Heafy possibly singing on this track. My response was, Matt who? I had the Trivium CD, it's killer, but I wasn't familiar with Matt himself, him being a new kid on the block and me being a veteran. I sent Matt the track and he just felt it. He said he had always wanted to sing a song like this. After he recorded the vocals, he sent Monte and me the song. I didn't know what to expect, after all he's only 19. I played the track and my jaw dropped. I was blown away by this kid's talent. Not only can he sing brutal but he has an amazing melodic voice...and I'm honored that Roadrunner picked this track to be the first single and the first video. This song cannot be compared to any of my other work because it's totally different, but in itself it's an amazing song."

IT'S HERE

We've been talking about it all week, and now it's here, the first track from the upcoming Roadrunner United The All Star Sessions release (coming October 11). The song "The Dagger" (unmastered) is now available for download in our MUSIC section.

Go ahead and download, and rather than us tell you about the track and more on the release, read the words below from the writer of "The Dagger" (and Captain of the team that recorded the song), Machine Head's Robert Flynn:

"Hey Fuckers!

"Greetings from Derka Derkastan! And as we say there, "Fuck...derk, derk, allah...sherpa, sherpa...Muhamed jihad" (Yes, I've been watching WAY too much "Team America"). Just got back from doing a bit of press for the Roadrunner United album. RR flew me down to LA for a couple of days, and then to London, England to do some international press. As I'm sure most of you have read or heard by now, Roadrunner have decided to take on the seemingly ridiculous challenge of gathering, organizing and managing 60 musicians for a giant collaborative metal all-star effort.

"Brainchild of Senior VP of A&R (and longtime Machine Head champion) Monte Conner, these all-star sessions would follow a few basic "rules". Roadrunner would choose four "Captains", each Captain would write 4 songs, then assemble a "band" for each song comprised of other RR artists, past and/or present, currently on or off the label. Each Captain would record the 4 songs they had written with their chosen group, and then choose four different singers, one for each song.

"When Monte originally left me a voicemail about this, I thought to myself, "Oooo-kaay...Monte's back on the crack again". I figured if I simply didn't return the call, it would all just disappear into the ridiculously complex crack-pipe haze that it had emerged from. But lo and behold, that guy managed to pester and prompt nearly 60 of us self-absorbed fuckers to be a part of this, and god damn if he didn't make shit happen. Hails and salutations to Monte Conner!

"Team Flynn was comprised of 5 main musicians: Andols Herrick (ex-Chimaira) on drums, Christian Olde Wolbers (Fear Factory) on bass, Jordan Wheland (Still Remains) aka "The Pick Slide King" on rhythm guitar, Jeff Waters (Annihilator) on face-peeling shredder solos, and myself on rhythm guitar, keyboard and vocals. I wrote the music for 2 songs myself, "The Dagger" and "Rich Man", Dave McClain co-wrote the song "Army Of The Sun" with me, and Phil Demmel contributed a riff for "Independent". I produced and arranged all of the tracks at the same location used for the recording of Through The Ashes Of Empires (Sharkbite Studios) along with the honorable Sir Markus O'Keatonus on Lead Pro Tools. We rehearsed and recorded the songs in a week and a half, and I want to give a special shout-out to Andols for being the burger worshipping, drum-part-writing-out, saving the day super-slayer! He WROTE all of his drum parts out in drum-ese (drum-erican, drum-ish, drum-adian) and ate burgers for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, every day for 3 days...FUCK YEAH!!

"When it came to the songs, I began writing them based around who I would like to sing them and then catering it to the singer. There was no guarantee that I would get the singers I wanted, as they could obviously go with any of the other Captains for whatever reason. But, being the humble fella that I am, I figured I'd go for the biggest and best singers on the label... why not huh? All that they could do was say no. I started envisioning Max from Soulfly/Sepultura on an old school Chaos A.D.-style thrash track, I imagined Corey from Slipknot on a long, slow, eerie, Sabbath-heavy track, I imagined Howard from Killswitch on a More Things Change-style track, and I imagined Tim Williams of VOD/Bloodsimple fame (and one of my favorite singers of all time) on a melodic but heavy, Muse-style track. Well, lo and behold, I got all four singers I wanted, and I haven't the slightest fuckin' clue how I managed to pull that off.

"Max, Corey and Tim recorded their parts near their hometowns of Phoenix, Des Moines, and New York respectively, while Howard asked me to produce his vocals here in Oakland. Mr. Jones flew out to Sharkbite for a couple of days, and we bounced ideas around while grubbing on bomb-ass vegetarian-chicken fried rice from Golden Lotus and ass-kickin' pollo adobado burritos from Cancun Taqueria. I had written a vocal melody and some lyrics for a melodic part that he loved, and as we were banging ideas back and forth, he asked if I'd sing on the track with him. At first I was like, "Nah, this is all you dude!", and he was like, "No man, I really want you to sing on this with me", but I was still like, "I don't know man", then he was like, "Dude, I really want you to sing on this with me", and ya know...Howard is a very large man, who just happens to be built like a brick fucking shithouse...so, I enthusiastically said "OK!" and we rocked the fuck out. I ended up singing some of his lyrics on the pre-chorus, we both sang the melodic hook, did some screech trade-offs, and basically kicked that fucker's ass! So much so, that at one point, we joked that this duet was the frickin' "Ebony and Ivory" of Metal. For me, it was probably the toughest song to part with musically, since it could have easily been a Machine Head song, but Mr. Jones fucking KILLED IT, so if it had to go, at least it went in supreme style. Amazing singer, really good dude, killer vibe.

"I gotta say, all of their contributions were phenomenal. Max's voice sounds hard as fuck, Tim's vocals are incredible and so damned original, and Corey Taylor just sounds fucking PISSED - very politically charged, and his voice has that mesmerizing quality that takes me back to something like "Bother" from Stone Sour, before kicking into that satanic vocal heaviness, like something off of the first Slipknot album. I LOVE this song!

"The coolest thing about this is that, as amazing as everything had turned out going into the music stage of it all, I think it's the singers who really brought the final touch to the table and made these songs come alive. I feel like I gave them some good songs, and these guys made them great songs. Even though it felt like I was cheating on my band the whole time, I'm really stoked with the results, and want to thank my guys for patiently allowing me to take part in this very unique project. Having heard many of the other tracks from the other Captains, this record is going to be fuckin' awesome for a metal fan."

Cheers, Fuckers!

57 ARTISTS, 47 BANDS, 19 TRACKS, 1 RELEASE

ROADRUNNER UNITED ? THE ALL-STAR SESSIONS,
57 ARTISTS, 45 BANDS, 19 TRACKS, 4 TEAM CAPTAINS? 1 GROUNDBREAKING ALBUM

New York, NY - Roadrunner Records has put together a groundbreaking record to mark the label's 25th Anniversary. The group is called Roadrunner United and the album titled The All-Star Sessions. This full length release, in stores on October 11, 2005, is a 'master-class' in hard rock/metal. Boasting 57 artists from 45 of Roadrunner's past and present bands, the album will contain original tracks that are collaborations between numerous Roadrunner stars.

Four central musicians were originally chosen to produce and write the songs. Joey Jordison (Slipknot), Dino Cazares (ex-Fear Factory/Brujeria), Robert Flynn (Machine Head) and Matthew Heafy (Trivium). These four musicians play on the songs they have written and have also assembled a unique team of artists to appear on each track. In order to cover as wide a spectrum as possible, no musician has played for more than one writer/producer and each song features a different vocalist.

In addition to these stellar teams of musicians, there will also be special additional tracks from ex-Roadrunner artist, Josh Silver - Type O Negative's longtime producer / keyboardist. In the spirit of the project, Silver has included Roadrunner artists on his tracks as well? Opeth's Mikael Akerfeldt appears on the Silver-written ?Roads.?

Track names from the Jordison team include ?Constitution Down? (with vocals by Kyle Thomas of Floodgate), ?Tired 'N Lonely? (with vocals from Keith Caputo of Life of Agony) and ?Annihilation By The Hand Of God? (with vocals from Glen Benton of Deicide) among others. Flynn's camp has completed songs like ?The Dagger? (with vocals from Howard Jones of Killswitch Engage) and ?The Rich Man? (with vocals from Corey Taylor of Slipknot) among others. ?The End? (with vocals from Matt Heafy of Trivium) and ?The Enemy? (with vocals from Mark Hunter of Chimaira) are some of the team-Cazares product. And tracks from Heafy's sessions include ?The Dawn of a Golden Age? (with vocals from Dani Filth of Cradle of Filth), ?Superheroes? (with vocals from Michale Graves of The Misfits) and ?Blood and Flames? (with vocals from Jesse Leach ? ex-Killswitch Engage singer).
