AMANDA PALMER TO PLAY WITH THE BOSTON POPS

The Dresden Dolls' songwriter/vocalist/keyboardist Amanda Palmer is set to play two very special, once-in-a-lifetime shows with the legendary Boston Pops on June 19th and June 20th as part of the BSO's Edgefest series, which continues to redefine the boundaries of rock and tradition. The shows will take place at Symphony Hall in Boston.

2008 has been an unbelievable year for Amanda Palmer thus far, and shows no signs of slowing down: in addition to starting an innovative fan-generated merchandise company called Post-War Trade, the Dolls released a new record entitled No, Virginia this May, full of new songs, b-sides and previously unreleased material from the last two years. Amanda and drummer Brian Viglione hit the road soon after the album's release for a string of phenomenal shows across the West Coast, and now Amanda is back in her hometown of Boston, preparing for one of the biggest, most prestigious musical undertakings of her career. As a lifelong resident of the city, constantly contributing to its ongoing aural history, Amanda is the perfect fit for this amazing opportunity.

Each of the shows with The Boston Pops will feature fan favorites from The Dresden Dolls' impressive catalogue, in addition to previews of new songs from Amanda's forthcoming solo album, Who Killed Amanda Palmer, due for release this September. The mixture of Amanda's incredible songwriting, her dynamic live performance and the 123 year-old institution that is The Boston Pops will certainly make for a show that is not to be missed!

DRESDEN DOLLS REVIEW ON ARTISTDIRECT.COM

Up now on Artistdirect.com is splendid 4 star review of The Dresden Dolls' latest album by Rick Florino.

"There's something seductively evil about Dresden Dolls' latest album No Virginia. It's not some kind of ode to Satan or anything like that, rather, it's a collection of unreleased tracks and b-sides so good that holding out on them was a sinister move on the band's part.

DRESDEN DOLLS ON CRAWDADDY.COM

Take a look at this splendid review, posted on Crawdaddy.com, of the Dresden Doll's latest record, No Virgina which hit stores this Tuesday, May 20th.

"If you were to switch out frontwoman Amanda Palmer’s piano and replace it with an electric guitar doing virtually the same thing, a lot of the songs on the Dresden Dolls’ new album, a collection of B-sides and a handful of tracks they recorded earlier this year, would sound like whip-smart slices of punk fun, because deep inside Palmer’s Kander and Ebb façade beats a heart that’s equal parts sneer and smirk—the hallmark of every great punk rocker. That said, if you took away the piano, you’d loose the very core of what makes No, Virginia… a really fun and engaging album. Palmer pounds the ivories with a fearless abandon that effortlessly fills the empty corners of a sound that, while often minimalist, is never sparse or sonically lacking. Three-quarters of the way though the album, on their cover of the Psychedelic Furs’ “Pretty in Pink”, they introduce an organ sound, and it’s a pleasant realization that up until then the sonic palette has remained remarkably constant (other than some subtle background guitar fuzz on a track or two) without getting dull or repetitive."

Regards, The Dresden Dolls Biography.

A few facts about the history of The Dresden Dolls:

-Vocalist/keyboardist Amanda Palmer met drummer/vocalist Brian
Viglione at a Halloween party in 2000.Both were from the Boston area. Both were sick of genre classifications, determined to create music that would pave its own ferocious, exciting path as a result of their own diverse, intriguing influences. Upon meeting, they both knew were made for each other.

-The band released one album on their own in 2003, a self-titled release, which was eventually picked up and re-released by Roadrunner Records. The band signed with Roadrunner in 2004, and subsequently put out a live DVD of a hometown show in 2005.

-Around that time, the band was hand-picked by Trent Reznor to open for Nine Inch Nails, an event that would prove serendipitous as time went on.

-The Dresden Dolls released their sophomore album, Yes Virginia, in 2006. Produced by Sean Slade and Paul Q. Kolderie (Radiohead, The Pixies, Hole) and recorded over several weeks at Allaire Studios (a converted turn-of-the-century mansion in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York), Yes, Virginia was a rich tapestry that showcased the bands road-sharpened musical chemistry and their ability to rip open uncharted emotional seams; no topic was ever seen as taboo. It immediately won the attention of most of music's critical establishment, in addition to stealing the hearts of music fans the world over.

-After Yes, Virginia's release, the band toured extensively. They opened for Panic! at the Disco, and were invited by Cyndi Lauper to play on the True Colors Tour alongside The Gossip and Blondie's Deborah Harry.

-Never ones to confine their artistic vision to just their own band, Amanda and Brian created their own original musical which was performed for forty nights at the American Repertory Theatre, and won major critical acclaim.

-The Dresden Dolls recently announced their newest endeavor, a new-school merchandising enterprise entitled Post-War Trade. A hands-on collaboration between the band and their fans, Post-War Trade makes limited edition artwork and merchandise created by the fans themselves available to other fans of the Dolls. As a band who has always opened up their visual art endeavors to their fanbase, Post-War Trade is the ultimate expression of gratitude from the Dolls to their supporters, allowing them to interact with the band like never before and create something that resonates within their own community.

-The Dolls newest album, No,
Virginia
, a companion album to Yes, Virginia in some ways (and very much its own album in other ways), will be released in spring of 2008 on Roadrunner Records. Featuring songs from farwithin The Dresden Dolls catalog, in addition to never-recorded-before live favorites and more, No, Virginia is a startling collection from two very brilliant, unique artists.

-Brian recently contributed drums to two songs on the newest Nine Inch Nails album, Ghosts I-IV.

-Amanda will be playing her first solo shows with the legendary
Boston Pops in June 2008. She recently underwent surgery to remove vocal nodes, so it's likely these shows will feature some of her best vocal performances yet.

-Amanda will release a solo album this coming fall. Entitled Who Killed Amanda Palmer?, the album is just as exciting, dynamic and exceptional as you would expect from our piano-pounding heroine.
