The Wombats have announced the upcoming release of A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation (Special Edition).

This digital release will be available 12/16! Check back soon!

A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation is an astoundingly accomplished and irresistibly catchy debut that deals in despair of the most danceable kind. Songs like "Kill The Director" and "Let's Dance To Joy Division" detonate where the brash impulse of youth and self-deprecating melancholy collide. Laced with three part harmonies and dizzying choruses chronicling tongue in cheek disasters that still manage to seem exuberant and carefree, The WOMBATS have created a collection of eighteen astounding tracks.

NEW SITE CHANGES!

You may have noticed that over the past few months quiet changes have been made to the site. First we gave you new artist pages. Check out your favorite and you'll find widgets, videos, music, and much more. Plus they look great.

A few weeks back we also updated our Artists page. You'll see highlighted artists up top in blue. These change as artists are updated with news, video, and music. This is a great page to make your first port-of-call after the news section!

Today we've relaunched three other pages. Music and Video are all new. You can now embed all of our music and video posted to the site in your blog, web site, or MySpace/Facebook profiles. At the right of these pages you'll see charts driven by what YOU do on our site. You can also leave comments at all songs and videos, rate them, and favorite them in our new profile system (more on that in a sec).

The Releases page has gotten a huge makeover. Every album now has its own home page where you can see the available tracks, rate it, leave a review, or comment on others' reviews. Snazzy huh?

Finally, we just launched our new profile pages. If you're a subscriber to our email newsletters, you can log in, add your own picture, keep track of the latest updates on our site (and partner sites), follow your favorite videos and music, and tell us what bands you want to hear about.

Of course, many of these new features require that you be a member of the site to use them, so please join today!

We are, of course, in a beta phase and need your help to make the site work the best for YOU. ARTIST DIRECT GETS THEIR REVIEW ON W/ THE WOMBATS

Artist direct sure knows how to pick 'em!

This week's wonderful words come from Danielle Allaire who reviewed the Wombats' A Guide To Love, Loss, & Desperation

The album bandies open with a barber shop quartet-styled a capella overture with pitch-perfect harmonies that may confuse listeners expecting to hear peppy, angular Brit pop. Then comes the album's most memorable track (which is saying something since they all get stuck in your head), "Kill the Director," an anthem of puppy love-gone-wrong, which packs just as much pop-punk punch as The Undertones' "Teenage Kicks" and as much venomous confusion as a male-penned review of Sex and the City. This couplet of tracks demonstrates their scope of their capability as musicians and as music connoisseurs. As the album progresses and more three-minute tracks proudly pronounce the slogan "with the angst of a teenage band / here's another song about a gender I'll never understand," the Wombats create honest, familiar songs of heartbreak, failed nights out on the town, unrequited crushes and loneliness that you swear you've heard before—and can already sing along."

THE WOMBATS PLAY TO PACKED HOUSES IN USA

Liverpool's latest export The Wombats rocked American audiences this past week with packed shows in New York City, San Francisco, and Los Angeles that geared up fans for the release of their debut album. Coming out June 24^th on Roadrunner Records, The Wombats Proudly Present...A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation offers up 13 tracks of hi-octane indie pop genius including the infectious single "Let's Dance to Joy Division," a track that was appointed "Single of the Week" on iTunes. The track saw a staggering 440,000 downloads, making it one of the most successful Single of the Week promotions iTunes has done to date.

Across the pond, The Wombats have been continuing their relentless touring schedule, which included a very special performance at London's prestigious Royal Albert Hall as the inaugural concert of a series called "Albert Sessions." This series aims at getting young bands to play the legendary venue, hence exposing a younger audience to the theater. While the band has been racking up gigs at prestigious venues, they have been attracting some prestigious fans as well. In a recent interview with the BBC, Sir Paul McCartney mentioned he'd be tempted to collaborate with them as a producer for an upcoming project. McCartney met the band during a class at his Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, which is where The Wombats met and honed their musical skills.

These three lads from Liverpool will return to the States for another round of tour dates in late summer.

About the band: Humorous pop-punk bands are a mainstay of many large towns, so it takes something more for one to break into the mainstream. Enter the Wombats, a three-man cross between Art Brut's Wire-like fractured art-punk and Half Man Half Biscuit's wicked Liverpudlian humor. They comprise two native Liverpudlians; front man Matthew Murphy, provider of vocals, guitar and keyboards, drummer and b-vocalist Dan Haggis and bass and additional vocalist Tord Øverland Knudsen, a Norwegian who has made his home in the city. The three met at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. The school gave them the chance to play gigs to over 20,000 people in China. Now a thousand times that many people love them... madly.

This summer The WOMBATS' eagerly awaited debut full-length album, The WOMBATS Proudly Present...A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation will see its North American release on June 24^th on Roadrunner Records. Produced by the band with Stephen Harris (Kaiser Chiefs, Ben Kweller) and mixed by Rich Costey (Muse, Interpol, Franz Ferdinand), the album's release will be preceded by the anthemic first single, "Let's Dance to Joy Division."

Playing 270 live dates in 2007 alone, including appearances at festivals such as Fuji Rocks, Glastonbury and V Festival, The WOMBATS have become an international buzz band with a brand of hi-octane indie pop genius that will gladly back up the hype. Reaching Gold status in its first week of release in the UK, The WOMBATS Proudly Present...A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation has produced two top ten UK singles, a 2007 NME Award, and received the XFM New Music Award this past January.
