THE WOMBATS ANNOUNCE SPECIAL EDITION RELEASE!

The Wombats have announced the upcoming release of A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation (Special Edition).

This digital release will be available 12/16! Check back soon!

A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation is an astoundingly accomplished and irresistibly catchy debut that deals in despair of the most danceable kind. Songs like "Kill The Director" and "Let's Dance To Joy Division" detonate where the brash impulse of youth and self-deprecating melancholy collide. Laced with three part harmonies and dizzying choruses chronicling tongue in cheek disasters that still manage to seem exuberant and carefree, The WOMBATS have created a collection of eighteen astounding tracks.

The Special Edition features five bonus tracks including Is This Christmas just in time for the holidays!
1. Tales of Girls, Boys and Marsupials
2. Kill The Director
3. Moving To New York
4. Lost In The Post
5. Party In A Forest (Where's Laura?)
6. School Uniforms
7. Here Comes The Anxiety
8. Let's Dance To Joy Division
9. Backfire At The Disco
10.
NEW SITE CHANGES!

You may have noticed that over the past few months quiet changes have been made to the site. First we gave you new artist pages. Check out your favorite and you'll find widgets, videos, music, and much more. Plus they look great.

A few weeks back we also updated our Artists page. You'll see highlighted artists up top in blue. These change as artists are updated with news, video, and music. This is a great page to make your first port-of-call after the news section!

Today we've relaunched three other pages. Music and Video are all new. You can now embed all of our music and video posted to the site in your blog, web site, or MySpace/Facebook profiles. At the right of these pages you'll see charts driven by what YOU do on our site. You can also leave comments at all songs and videos, rate them, and favorite them in our new profile system (more on that in a sec).

The Releases page has gotten a huge makeover. Every album now has its own home page where you can see the available tracks, rate it, leave a review, or comment on others' reviews. Snazzy huh?

Finally, we just launched our new profile pages. If you're a subscriber to our email newsletters, you can log in, add your own picture, keep track of the latest updates on our site (and partner sites), follow your favorite videos and music, and tell us what bands you want to hear about.

Of course, many of these new features require that you be a member of the site to use them, so please join today!

We are, of course, in a beta phase and need your help to make the site work the best for YOU. If you see any problems or want to suggest changes to the new features, please send an email to webmaster@roadrunnerrecords.com with "NEW SITE REPORT" in the subject line. If you receive an error, please be as detailed as possible, including what page you were on, what browser you are using, and copy any error message you receive into the body of the email.

Please feel free to leave comments here below!

Cheers!

Jeremy Rosen

ARTIST DIRECT GETS THEIR REVIEW ON W/ THE WOMBATS

Artist direct sure knows how to pick 'em!

This week's wonderful words come from Danielle Allaire who reviewed the Wombats' A Guide To Love, Loss, & Desperation

The album bandies open with a barber shop quartet-styled a capella overture with pitch-perfect harmonies that may confuse listeners expecting to hear peppy, angular Brit pop. Then comes the album's most memorable track (which is saying something since they all get stuck in your head), "Kill the Director," an anthem of puppy love-gone-wrong, which packs just as much pop-punk punch as The Undertones' "Teenage Kicks" and as much venomous confusion as a male-penned review of Sex and the City. This couplet of tracks demonstrates their scope of their capability as musicians and as music connoisseurs. As the album progresses and more three-minute tracks proudly pronounce the slogan "with the angst of a teenage band / here's another song about a gender I'll never understand," the Wombats create honest, familiar songs of heartbreak, failed nights out on the town, unrequited crushes and loneliness that you swear you've heard before—and can already sing along."

Read the rest of this rad review right here.

Lyric writing is never easy. Sometimes you need some help. We thought that The Wombats might appreciate our little tool that helps fans re-engineer the lyrics to "Let's Dance To Joy Division" in some weird and colourful ways. It also doubles up as a personality test, provided you don't mind comparing yourself to a sex toy. Not sure what we are talking about? Why not head to www.thewombats.us/madlib and have some fun with The Wombats Madlib game. You can share the Madlib with your friends using the easy Clearspring "wrapper" at the bottom, as well as embed the game on your own personal homepage You can also save your answers, vote on the results of other players and we will be submitting the best ones to the fellas themselves. They've told us that they might knock out a few 'alternative versions' of "Joy Division" based on your answers, so there is another incentive to go and mess around with it!!

THE WOMBATS PLAY TO PACKED HOUSES IN USA

Liverpool's latest export The Wombats rocked American audiences this past week with packed shows in New York City, San Francisco, and Los Angeles that geared up fans for the release of their debut album. Coming out June 24th on Roadrunner Records, The Wombats Proudly Present...A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation offers up 13 tracks of hi-octane indie pop genius including the infectious single "Let's Dance to Joy Division," a track that was appointed "Single of the Week" on iTunes. The track saw a staggering 440,000 downloads, making it one of the most successful Single of the Week promotions iTunes has done to date.

Across the pond, The Wombats have been continuing their relentless touring schedule, which included a very special performance at London's prestigious Royal Albert Hall as the inaugural concert of a series called "Albert Sessions." This series aims at getting young bands to play the legendary venue, hence exposing a younger audience to the theater. While the band has been racking up gigs at prestigious venues, they have been attracting some prestigious fans as well. In a recent interview with the BBC, Sir Paul McCartney mentioned he'd be tempted to collaborate with them as a producer for an upcoming project. McCartney met the band during a class at his Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, which is where The Wombats met and honed their musical skills.

These three lads from Liverpool will return to the States for another round of tour dates in late summer.

On June 24th, UK phenomenon The Wombats will see the official US release of their album, A Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation - a record that has already taken the UK and Europe by storm over the last few months. The album is stuffed to the brim with high-energy, UK poppy-punk anthems like "Let's Dance To Joy Division," "Moving To New York" and "Backfire At The Disco."

Right now, if you pre-order the CD from our good friends at Bull Moose (bullmoose.com) you'll also get a CD booklet signed by the band with your purchase! Supplies are limited so hurry over!

ORDER HERE

About the band: Humorous pop-punk bands are a mainstay of many large towns, so it takes something more for one to break into the mainstream. Enter the Wombats, a three-man cross between Art Brut's Wire-like fractured art-punk and Half Man Half Biscuit's wicked Liverpudlian humor. They comprise two native Liverpudlians; front man Matthew Murphy, provider of vocals, guitar and keyboards, drummer and b-vocalist Dan Haggis and bass and additional vocalist Tord Øverland Knudsen, a Norwegian who has made his home in the city. The three met at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. The school gave them the chance to play gigs to over 20,000 people in China. Now a thousand times that many people love them... madly.

ROADRUNNER RECORDS TO RELEASE THE WOMBATS

This summer The WOMBATS' eagerly awaited debut full-length album, The WOMBATS Proudly Present...A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation will see its North American release on June 24th on Roadrunner Records. Produced by the band with Stephen Harris (Kaiser Chiefs, Ben Kweller) and mixed by Rich Costey (Muse, Interpol, Franz Ferdinand), the album's release will be preceded by the anthemic first single, "Let's Dance to Joy Division."

Playing 270 live dates in 2007 alone, including appearances at festivals such as Fuji Rocks, Glastonbury and V Festival, The WOMBATS have become an international buzz band with a brand of hi-octane indie pop genius that will gladly back up the hype. Reaching Gold status in its first week of release in the UK, The WOMBATS Proudly Present...A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation has produced two top ten UK singles, a 2007 NME Award, and received the XFM New Music Award this past January.

Pairing scathing wit and boyish humor with exceptional songwriting and forthright musicianship, it's no wonder The WOMBATS have made such a ruckus debut abroad....A Guide to Love, Loss & Desperation is an astoundingly accomplished and irresistibly catchy debut that deals in despair of the most danceable kind. Songs like "Kill The Director" and "Let's Dance To Joy Division" detonate where the brash impulse of youth and self-deprecating melancholy collide. Laced with three part harmonies and dizzying choruses chronicling tongue in cheek disasters that still manage to seem exuberant and carefree, The WOMBATS have created a collection of thirteen astounding tracks that, as NME declares, "make you want to hold them to your bosom and never let go."

The WOMBATS were born in 2003 when Liverpool natives Matthew "Murph" Murphy (vocals, guitar, keyboard) and Dan Haggis (drums, vocals) met assimilated Viking Tord Øverland Knudsen (bass, vocals) at Paul McCartney's Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. Three limited sell-out singles on UK indie label KIDS and a host of rapturously received live shows later, The WOMBATS found themselves the focus of a bidding war that resulted in their signing to the UK's 14th Floor Records in April 2007 and now Roadrunner.

Track listing:

1. Tales of Girls, Boys & Marsupials
2. Kill The Director
3. Moving To New York
4. Lost In The Post
5. Party In A Forest (Where's Laura?)
6. School Uniforms
7. Here Comes The Anxiety
8. Let's Dance To Joy Division
9. Backfire At The Disco
10. Little Miss Pipedream
11. Dr. Suzanne Mattox PhD
12. Patricia The Stripper
13. My First Wedding

The WOMBATS are confirmed for a very limited run of dates in the U.S. this June. Dates are as follows:

June 3 New York, NY @ Gramercy Theater
June 5 San Francisco, CA@ Popscene
June 6 Los Angeles, CA @ The Roxy
