Yesterday, we posted a short video interview with DevilDriver frontman Dez Fafara, in which he discussed the group's recent South American tour (conducted without guitarist Mike Spreitzer, who'd suffered a seizure just before it was scheduled to kick off), watching other bands on the bill, and where he'd like to go that he's never been. DevilDriver frontman Dez Fafara sat down with us for a conversation backstage when the band played New York on Friday, September 9, as part of their current North American tour with Arch Enemy, Skeletonwitch and Chthonic. Fafara talked about the band's recently completed South American tour, which they had to do with only one guitarist after Mike Spreitzer suffered a seizure and was hospitalized.

In the course of the lengthy conversation, he talks about the band's creative process, the state of the music industry, and perhaps most surprisingly, his feelings about his former band, Coal Chamber. Says Fafara, "I get up every morning and these guys will already have four or five tunes written as well.

Among the discs he chose were Black Flag's Jealous Again EP, from 1980 ("the first time I heard this record, I shaved my head") and Motörhead's self-titled 1977 album ("Motörhead is the best band in metal.

DevilDriver has recorded a cover of Metallica's "Holier Than Thou" for a Metal Hammer compilation CD, to be included with the magazine's September 2011 issue. The issue and the CD are a 20th anniversary tribute to Metallica's self-titled "black album," and all but one of the cover versions featured are exclusive recordings. DevilDriver will be touring North America with Arch Enemy, Chthonic and Skeletonwitch starting next week.

DevilDriver guitarists Mike Spreitzer and Jeff Kendrick will be hosting a free guitar clinic at West LA Music in Los Angeles, California. The annual Heavy MTL Festival was held in Montreal on July 23 and 24, and five Roadrunner acts played - DevilDriver, Machine Head, Opeth, Times of Grace and Trivium all performed for the massive crowd.
