Dream Theater's North American tour in support of their new album A Dramatic Turn of Events, with Trivium opening the shows, kicked off a little over a week ago and is currently winding its way across the country. Dream Theater's Mike Mangini Takes You Through His Kit

 
It should come as no surprise to anyone that Dream Theater drummer Mike Mangini plays a big kit. But when the guys from MetalSucks.net asked him to break it down for them, in an installment of their popular "Rigged" column, even they weren't expecting it to require multiple posts to encompass everything he hits or steps on during the course of a Dream Theater show or recording session. Dream Theater's John Petrucci Talks About World Events' Influence On New Album

 
In an interview with Utah's Daily Herald, Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci has gone into detail about the inspirations behind the songs on the band's latest album, A Dramatic Turn of Events, as well as the record's title. "People look at the title and they say, 'Oh, well, obviously it's about Mike [Portnoy]'s departure and the changes.' It's really not. First of all we didn't write any of the songs lyrically about our situation at all, and that was a conscious effort.

The album debuted at #8 on the Billboard Top 200, selling over 35,000 copies in its first week, outdoing the first-week numbers for the band's Roadrunner debut, 2007's Systematic Chaos.
