SLODUST To Enter Studio In December - Oct. 24, 2009
Swedish metal band SLODUST — which released the "Twisted Ahead" album in 2001 via the Black Mark label — was resurrected with a new lineup last year and is now planning to hit the studio in December.

Commented drummer Dante: "We think it's going to be 7-10 new tracks, and let me tell you, it's going to be the best music anyone of us have ever done.

"It has taken more than two years to complete this, but NOW we see the beautiful black light in the horizon. This is going to be our masterpiece so far, no question about that.

"All of us in SLO are really looking forward to give this new music to you guys, and you will NOT be disappointed."

Formed in the late Nineties by bass player Roger Ersson, drummer Hugo Tigenius and singer Niklas Murbeck, SLODUST "has been alive for almost a decade," according to the group's official bio. "The Nynashamn-based band has had its ups and downs, has seen members come and go. But in the end it always have made clear for others around what also can be read in the convolute of the band's one album: 'SLODUST is not a project, its our lifestyle.' Those words is the core, the very essence of SLODUST and it is evident now more than ever.'

More video footage of MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer and METHODS OF MAYHEM mastermind Tommy Lee in the studio during the recording sessions for METHODS OF MAYHEM's new album can be viewed below.

METHODS OF MAYHEM's "Public Mayhem" album collaboration project was launched on October 5. Lee and METHODS producer Scott Humphrey posted isolated instrument tracks, or stems, from the upcoming album on the web site ThePublicRecord.com. Anyone with a great musical idea is invited to play a part in helping to achieve true "Public Mayhem", i.e. collaborate on the album. A wide range of formats are available to work with, including RiffWorks, WAV, Logic, GarageBand, Pro Tools and the Four Track 3.0 iPhone application. Participants will also have a chance to perform with METHODS OF MAYHEM at their record-release show.

"Public Mayhem" is set for release in early 2010.

A charitable donation will be made on behalf of all participants to the MusiCares Foundation. Established by The Recording Academy in 1989, MusiCares provides emergency health and human services and addiction recovery resources to music people in need. Whether artists or other industry professionals, MusiCares is there with a safety net of support for those who have given the gift of music to our lives.

Video and sound updates are being posted at ThePublicRecord.com featuring submission highlights and weekly giveaways for the best audio and video entries.

METHODS OF MAYHEM earlier in the year inked a worldwide deal with Loud & Proud Records, a Roadrunner Records imprint focusing on established artists.

Lee formed METHODS OF MAYHEM in 1999 after he left MÖTLEY CRÜE. The all-star project collaboration with rapper TiLo featured input from LIMP BIZKIT's Fred Durst, THE CRYSTAL METHOD, Kid Rock, Snoop Dogg, and Mix Master Mike. After signing to MCA, METHODS OF MAYHEM issued its self-titled debut LP in late 1999.

Police Say Missing METALLICA Fan Sighting Was A 'False Alarm' - Oct. 24, 2009
WHSV.com reports that police in Charlottesville, Virginia say a sighting of a METALLICA fan who has been missing for a week was a "false alarm."

Acting on a tip, police shut down access to the Comfort Inn motel at I-64 and Route 250 in Charlottesville Saturday morning and confirmed they were looking for Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington.

However, after fingerprinting a blue truck in the motel parking lot and having bloodhounds search the surrounding areas, police say the sighting was a "false alarm."

In other news, The Roanoke Times reports that investigators trying to find Harrington said their scrutiny of surveillance video from the area around the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville — where the 20-year-old disappeared — has ended in frustration.

The footage has not yielded any clues to the Roanoke County woman's disappearance, said Corinne Geller, spokeswoman for the Virginia State Police.

"We've looked at all the surveillance video — gas stations, convenience stores, ATMs — any camera in that immediate area has been looked at," Geller said. "Nothing in the videos is relevant to the case."

Harrington vanished on October 17 while attending a METALLICA concert with friends. Her friends told investigators she left them sometime that night to go to a restroom and wound up outside the arena, which has a no-readmittance policy. Harrington called her friends to say she would either meet them after the concert or find another way home.

State police have set up a tip line at (434) 352-3467 and offered a reward that Harrington's father said now stands at $100,000.

DAVE MUSTAINE Says He Plans To Add METALLICA's 'No Life 'Til Leather' Demo To 'Megadeth Radio' - Oct. 24, 2009
MEGADETH's "predictably unpredictable" Artist Personal Experience radio station, "Megadeth Radio", is available for streaming using the widget below.

MEGADETH guitarist/vocalist Dave Mustaine has complete creative control in the programming of his 24-hour channel, which features interviews, news, personal commentary, and playlists of his favorite music.

According to LiveDaily, a sampling of "Megadeth Radio" revealed cuts from MEGADETH, as well as a varied mix of tunes heavy on classic rock and metal, including vintage cuts from METALLICA, KISS, QUEEN, BLUE ÖYSTER CULT, GRAND FUNK RAILROAD, ALICE IN CHAINS, DIO, THE ROLLING STONES and AC/DC. Other tracks included live versions of MEGADETH's "Symphony of Destruction" and FAITH NO MORE's "Epic", as well as studio cuts from LAMB OF GOD and MACHINE HEAD.

Between the musical selections, Mustaine can be heard talking about a variety of topics, including his band's influences, the subject matter for their songs, and his soon-to-open San Diego guitar/music school, where he plans to teach underprivileged youths.

In a brand new update on the official MEGADETH forum, Mustaine writes, "I am talking to the station guys for my show today and next week we'll be making some slight adjustments.

"I will check out what songs were added, and in many bands' cases, we got it right. Sometimes there are going to be stinkers, and I will make adjustments as I go. Remember, though, we are playing zingers too, and that means that just because a song is here, I don't necessarily like it — it just had something to do with my life. Example: 'I Was Made For Loving You' [by] KISS is played because that was the last song I heard by KISS as a fan. After that one, I quit them, which helped me understand the fan backlash from Bud Prager's failed attempt to break us with 'Crush 'Em'.

"I am constantly considering new additions of the music from my life as I hear it or someone suggests it. I am not sure why BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE was in there; it must have been a song that I tried to recall and got it wrong, although I still think that band has talent. I will also look at some other genres, because I have eclectic taste in music, but as far as anything that is blatantly against my moral fiber, you can fergit it! I am also changing 'Hair Of The Dog' [by] NAZARETH, so that it will always be NAZARETH and no covers of that one. No one else has the right to sing those lines. They are one of the credos I lived by for so many years and to hear someone else, anybody else sing it is just not right.

"I am going to add the entire record 'No Life To Leather' [sic] [referring to METALLICA's widely circulated 'No Life 'til Leather' demo tape featuring Mustaine on lead guitar] and have some fun with the comparisons between me and Kirk [Hammett, current METALLICA guitarist], but let's keep it fun and fair. I wouldn't even play them if I had a problem still. This is a new opportunity for us all to revolt against regular radio and together we are going to play hard and heavy music that we like, because I say so!

"I am glad that you are enjoying Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, and I can't wait to spring some more cultural stuff. Bob Dylan slipped through and will be removed, as well as a couple others that I notice slipped in.

"This is going to be such a cool and educating experience for you all, and I am so glad that you are enjoying my twisted sense of humor with the ads in between like, 'We go to eleven' and then play Elton John.

"Since I picked the songs for now, I have several new bands that I am going to check out and pick some songs from. As you can imagine, there are just too many bands, and just because you like them, doesn't mean I do. Megadeth Radio is for the whole band, but I am the only one doing it as of yet. So, I will check into RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, DEEP PURPLE, definately PANTERA, SYMPHONY X, RAMMSTEIN, and VIO-LENCE. I dunno why there is two versions of 'School's Out'ALICE COOPER and someone. I also got the 'Endgame' requests and the picture glitch, I got some messages at TheLiveLine [a service launched by Mustaine that enables musicians to connect to their audience over the phone] about this, and when you call the studio number it goes to the studio, so if you want to talk to me directly, call my TheLiveLine number after you leave a message at the studio. I am also thinking about doing something cool on the weekends where we slam you with entire sides of classic albums — not the whole thing, because even classic records get hard to sit through. But you'll get the jest. The decision to beep out songs is not mine.

"I was thinking of my new slogan, 'Megadeth Radio - where you'll neeeeeeeever hear NICKLEBACK!'"

SLIPKNOT: Video Interview With COREY TAYLOR Available - Oct. 24, 2009
Independent music record label Indie Power recently conducted an interview with SLIPKNOT frontman Corey Taylor. Watch the chat below. Also available is performance footage from SLIPKNOT's October 23, 2009 concert at the Event Center in San Jose, California.

"I think SLIPKNOT is the best therapy I could ever have wanted in my whole life," Taylor recently told Straight.com. "It continues to allow me to really figure out things about myself. You know, get really macro and let a lot of stuff go. In a lot of ways, the insanity of SLIPKNOT allows me to have the humanity of my real life."

Taylor currently has three projects in the works, including the alt-rockish STONE SOUR, and the JUNK BEER KIDNAP BAND, a roots-oriented outfit that made its live debut this past summer.

"We just wrapped up a couple of shows on the West Coast that were really fun," Taylor told Straight.com of JUNK BEER KIDNAP BAND . "I'm just kind of getting out there and doing my thing. I write so many kinds of different music that if I don't find a way to get it all out there, then I'm limiting myself. At the end of the day, it [writing] is just what I love to do. There are no ulterior motives other than just getting the music out. And as a songwriter and lyricist, I'm constantly trying to find a way to push the boundaries of what I know, instead of just falling back on what I'm comfortable with.

"So many people only know me for SLIPKNOT or STONE SOUR. This is a way to throw another wrench in there — to go, 'Hey, just when you thought you knew what I was all about, here's this whole other brand of music that I really love doing.'"

Regarding why SLIPKNOT continues to have a large and devoted fan base more than a decade since the release of the band's self-titled debut, Taylor said, "Too many bands are willing to sell their fan base out to get what they want, monetarily speaking. Too many bands are willing to destroy the foundation of their career just to have a little scratch upfront. And that's just fucking sad. To me, the great thing about having our feet in two worlds is that we never left our original fans behind. We never sold them out — we took them with us. And in doing that, we showed them respect. They were the ones that kept us here when things were dark, when nobody else gave us a chance."

GRIFFEN Putting Finishing Touches On Debut Album - Oct. 24, 2009
Swedish hard rockers GRIFFEN have issued the following update:

"We have now completed the mixing [of our debut album] at Pelle Saether's Studio Underground, Västerås who has made a fantabulous job. It's sounding just as raw and smooth as we intended it to. The stuff is now being mastered by Göran Finnberg, who is a cunning fox and has mastered bands like HAMMERFALL, IN FLAMES and ARCH ENEMY, among others. We've heard samples from his work on our stuff and... G'DAMN!!! It's a lip-cracker!"

GRIFFEN's debut CD will be released through Heart Of Steel Records .

According to a press release, GRIFFEN's sound is influenced by some classic names of the genre such as RAINBOW, WHITESNAKE and DIO, and it's not far removed from the melodic rock style that can be found on the last few albums from artists like Jorn Lande and Jeff Scott Soto.

Tomi Peltonen (TORCH) - Guitar
Stefan Törnblom - Guitar
Jörgen Söderberg - Lead Vocals

BLIND GUARDIAN Bassist Performs With LEAVES' EYES At METAL FEMALE VOICES FEST; Video Available - Oct. 24, 2009
Bassist Oliver Holzwarth (TARJA TURUNEN, BLIND GUARDIAN) joined LEAVES' EYES — the band formed by ex-THEATRE OF TRAGEDY singer Liv Kristine Espenaes Krull and members of ATROCITY — for two songs during the German/Norwegian female-fronted metal group's acoustic performance at the Metal Female Voices Fest on October 19, 2009 in Wieze, Belgium. Holzwarth was filling in for LEAVES' EYES' regular bassist Alla Fedynitch, who is suffering from a herniated vertebral disk and paralysis on her right hand, making it possible for her to play only one song with the group during the show.

Watch fan-filmed video footage of the perfomance below.

Commented LEAVES' EYES: "Alla has to take a physiotherapeutic treatment for the next six weeks which makes it impossible for her to play the upcoming shows in Italy (October 31) and the Beauty & The Beast Tour (with LEAVES' EYES, ATROCITY, SIRENIA, ELIS and STREAM OF PASSION).

"Alla and the whole band deeply regret all this. However, the shows will take place [with a substitute bassist]!"

This North American tour is exactly what we were looking for as we wanted a chance to perform in front of a lot of new faces that might not have been exposed to our band. This tour marks the kick-off of a massive worldwide touring campaign to support the new 'Bringer of Plagues' album.

"DIVINE HERESY is better than ever and we are embarking on this tour with only one, simple goal in mind: to annihilate everything in our path. Expect an unrelenting set and if your jaw isn't on the floor when we finish, then we haven't done our job, but that won't be the case. Be sure to come by the merch booth each night to say hello to us all and we look forward to seeing everyone soon. It's certainly been way too long."

DIVINE HERESY's sophomore album, "Bringer of Plagues", sold around 3,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 148 on The Billboard 200 chart. DIVINE HERESY's first album, "Bleed The Fifth", opened with 2,700 units back in September 2007.

"Bringer of Plagues" was released in North America on July 28 via Century Media Records.

"We've been off for a week and we're going back on tour for a month. November is off, with only one show, so it'll be quiet. Christmas will be it for quite some time. OBITUARY Working On 'All-Florida-Death-Metal' Touring Package - Oct. 24, 2009
Shaxul of Earth-Dog.com recently conducted an interview with vocalist John Tardy of Florida death metal legends OBITUARY. A few excerpts from the chat follow below.

Earth-Dog.com: Do you feel that your fan base is comprised of people that may be into SLIPKNOT or stuff like that? Bands that don't really sound like you?

Tardy: We're kinda open for that, you know. Back when we took that six-year hiatus when we weren't doing much and we kinda got back into these things and we run into some of these bands like SLIPKNOT or DOWN and finding out they're huge OBITUARY fans... you know, when you got Phil [Anselmo] walking up to you and saying, "hey, I like your style," that's fuckin awesome. It's good to run into some of those bands that are doing really well and even younger people coming up to us and saying, "You're the reason I started playing guitar." No better compliment than getting it from your fellow musicians.

Earth-Dog.com: Are there any artists out there that you think is really immitating your vocal style?

Tardy: Yeah I get alot of people coming up to me and saying, "Listen to this, it sounds like you" kinda stuff. I guess nothing would turn me off more than to hear something that sounds like something else. You know what I mean? If I wanna listen to AC/DC, then I'm gonna listen to AC/DC. I don't wanna listen to some band that's just gonna copy their sound. If that makes sense to ya?! I like to go to the source. I don't like to listen to a whole lotta bands that just sound like somebody else. I mean, we were very fortunate, Donald [Tardy, drums], Trevor [Peres, guitar], and I. It's just something when we get together. It's not about how fast you are or whatever it's not something you can immitate. We were lucky to come up with a unique sound. So I have heard a lot of bands [that sound like us], and obviously there's alot of people telling me about it. But I just...I don't like to listen to bands that, you know, they just sat down and decided to sound just like like PANTERA...and they're just working it to the ground.

Earth-Dog.com: Do you think that "clone bands" are more rampant than they were say 10-15 years ago?

Tardy: Well, when we came out there was so few bands doing it...we were fortunate to come out with that extreme kind of metal when there weren't alot of bands doing it. And now you've got so many — SO MANY — bands out there! I mean it's just ridiculous how many bands are out there and every one of em, unfortunately can't be original. I think there's just so many bands now that just by nature you're gonna get more and more of that.

Earth-Dog.com: Do you think the proliferation of all these "extreme" bands kinda waters things down a little bit?

Tardy: Well, it does, and I think you see times when it just gets too much for the market. And that's when you see kids start listening to other kinds of music
because you just get kinda overwealmed with it. But, you know, it happens with all kinds of music. You get country music. You get a couple big artists and they get real popular and then all these bands start coming out that start sounding like them. Then, over time, [it] starts getting little less popular and a little less until that new band comes back and creates that big splash that brings things back up again. And I think metal went through that for a while and we fortunately were taking a break when that was happening. You know, I think metal just got to a point where it just wasn't real popular. And it just comes and goes in waves.

Earth-Dog.com: How would you compare your old stuff to your new stuff? How would you say you've changed?

Tardy: God, I guess it's kinda like looking at an old photograph or yourself. You always think you look like a dork back then. [laughs] You know, when I listen
back, I hear all the mistakes we were doing back then... I hear the production — you know we didn't have the money to pay the rent. You hear certain things and you think, "Where in the hell did we get that drum sound?" So, you know, you just find yourself criticle of stuff you did in the past. You just always wanna listen to your new stuff. The production's better. I'm writing better songs now. With each album it's a different time of your life and you're doing different things. You get alot of people coming up and saying, "'Slowly We Rot''s my favorite album" or "'Cause of Death''s my favorite album." It's not always one album — we get a pretty good mixture of people coming up and, you know, they like stuff from all the albums.

Earth-Dog.com: What directions do you wanna take OBITUARY in the future musically?

Tardy: We're trying to do what we can to sell a million records! [laughs] That's where we need to get! I don't know, I never think much about what we're gonna do next. As far as musically, I don't think any of us sit around thinking to ourselves, "We really need to write a song like this," or "We never done one like that before." We just don't get that deep into it. I mean, honestly, it's like, 'Hey, you guys wanna come over and jam?" And that's what we start doing. And then we start hitting "record" and set up some mics and, you know... the next day we can drink about 20 beers and hit play and remember some of the rhythms we came up with! But, for the most part, we don't fret/think much about what we're gonna do. We just like to let it come out.

Earth-Dog.com: Did you know Chuck Shuldiner [late DEATH/CONTROL DENIED mainman] at all?

Tardy: Oh yeah. I met him, we played shows with Chuck. He was a bit of an opinionated person. He'd come across with people that maybe there was some friction. But that wasn't the case with us; we always got along with Chuck. He'd be the first one to tell you that. If he was sitting here listening, he'd be the first one to tell you that. He'll tell you, "Hey, that's just what it is." He even told us one time, "You know, a lot of bands just get on my nerves sometimes, but you guys are pretty cool!" [laughs] So we always got along great with him. And that's too bad. I mean, he was definately one of the originators of this style of music. When we first started out — the bands in our circle...and he was just right up there.

Earth-Dog.com: You guys gonna maybe play with bands like MORBID ANGEL or anything like that soon?

Tardy: Actually something we're working on right now, and it's not a done deal by any means, but I got SIX FEET UNDER and DEICIDE that said they would be interested in doing a European tour with us. So we're looking forward to putting togather a Florida death metal package. So we're looking at the beginning of the year. We talked to the CANNIBAL CORPSE guys and they were into it too. But they just got so much stuff lined up that it doesn't look like they are gonna be available for it. But we might try and do this on a yearly basis. Just a full "Florida death metal" kinda tour. Maybe we can do MORBID ANGEL and CANNIBAL CORPSE next year. It's good — the whole Florida death metal thing — and most of the big players are still around and doing things and I'd be good to get them all together before they start doing other things. [laughs] I mean, we actually toured with CANNIBAL CORPSE once a long time ago. But it'd be fun to do an all-Florida death metal tour and I'm hoping that gets done this time around.

KITTIE Drummer Interviewed In Chicago; Video Available - Oct. 24, 2009
Hightower And Jones conducted an interview with drummer Mercedes Lander of Canadian all-girl metal band KITTIE on October 22, 2009 at the Double Door in Chicago, Illinois. Watch the chat in two parts below.

"In The Black", the new album from KITTIE, sold around 3,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 132 on The Billboard 200 chart.

KITTIE's previous CD, "Funeral for Yesterday", opened with 9,000 units back in February 2007 to land at No. 101.

"In The Black" was made available in Europe on October 23 via Germany's Massacre Records.

"Cut Throat", the new video from KITTIE, was directed by David Brodsky (SUICIDE SILENCE, GWAR, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER) in an old, abandoned department store in Brooklyn, New York and it "perfectly captures what this band is all about," said guitarist/vocalist Morgan Lander. "The make-up artist didn't really appreciate the fact that our make-up was sliding down our faces from the first note, but this isn't pretty or nice or dainty. This is metal and the 'Cut Throat' video perfectly embodies that."

'Why AC/DC Matters' Author Interviewed On 1050 AM ESPN RADIO; Video Available - Oct. 24, 2009
Ray Carsillo of 1050 AM ESPN Radio in New York City sat down in the 1050 studios with four-time New York Times bestselling author and former writer/editor of Rolling Stone magazine Anthony Bozza to discuss Bozza's new book "Why AC/DC Matters". Watch the chat below.

"Why AC/DC Matters" was released on October 13 via William Morrow (an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers).

AC/DC is the second-best-selling popular music act of all time, bested only by THE BEATLES. They've sold 200 million albums worldwide. "Back in Black" is the second best-selling album in the world behind MICHAEL JACKSON's "Thriller" at 49 million copies sold. In 2008, thirty-five years after AC/DC first took to the stage, their sixteenth studio album, "Black Ice", debuted at #1 in 29 countries around the world, despite the fact that it was only available in Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, and via the band's web site.

So with credentials like these, why is a book titled "Why AC/DC Matters" necessary? Because, from the start, AC/DC was at best ignored — and at worst ridiculed — by the mainstream music press. In AC/DC's thirty-five-year history, the band has graced the cover of Rolling Stone exactly twice — there was no Bon Scott memorial issue, no exclusive "in-the-studio" pieces, and no fitting recognition in any of the magazine's endless "greatest" lists. The mainstream media's critical subtext has always been that AC/DC is unworthy of serious consideration, an inexplicably popular band for the tasteless masses, selling the obvious to an unseen, uncultured majority.

Now Anthony Bozza sets the record straight. In addition to helming Rolling Stone's "Random Notes" column for two years, he penned a wide array of cover stories and features on artists ranging from Trent Reznor to Jennifer Lopez to Ozzy Osbourne and Bo Didley. Bozza also has several mega-selling books to his credit: he wrote "Whatever You Say I Am: The Life and Times of Eminem", and co-wrote comedian Artie Lange's "Too Fat to Fish" which debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list, "Tommyland", the autobiography of MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee, and Slash, the autobiography of GUNS N' ROSES and VELVET REVOLVER's legendary guitarist. In "Why AC/DC Matters" Bozza throws down the gauntlet when he states, "AC/DC is the greatest living rock band, end of story." Coming from him, this means something.

Bozza's perspective in "Why AC/DC Matters" is unique, combining the keen analytical eye of a pop culture critic with the zeal of a true music lover. His writing career has provided him with keen insight into what makes rock bands tick, and incredible access to its top-rung talent. In these pages we hear from rockers Tommy Lee and Slash, multiple Grammy Award-wining producer Rick Rubin, and professors of voice and guitar at the prestigious Berklee School of Music. Bozza examines AC/DC's rise and every aspect of what makes them so appealing, influential, and culturally important — the bonds of brotherhood (familial and otherwise) within the band, their instantly recognizable sound, their remarkable consistency, and their army of devoted fans who span generations. This is not a definitive biography of the band. There is no deep examination of the childhood and rise of each band member or travelogue of tour bus and backstage antics. Instead, Bozza treats us to the ultimate critical appreciation of a supremely beloved and phenomenally successful rock band. "Why AC/DC Matters" is the sum total of the long-overdue serious consideration that has been so incredibly and conspicuously absent — until now.

So, to AC/DC and their legions of fans: consider yourselves snubbed no more. "Why AC/DC Matters" validates what fans have known all along — AC/DC is the greatest rock and roll band of all time!

CHTHONIC: New Video Interview With DORIS YEH Posted Online - Oct. 24, 2009
Dark Lord Bunnykins conducted an interview with bassist Doris Yeh of Taiwanese extreme metallers CHTHONIC when the band played Toronto, Ontario, Canada on October 21, 2009. Watch the chat below.

CHTHONIC was honored with the "Best International Artist" award for its participation in the Free Tibet concert in Taipei on July 11 of this year. The award was given out at this year's Tibetan Music Awards, which took place on October 10 in McLeod Ganj, India.

Says vocalist Freddy Lim: "This is an honor for all the performers, staff, volunteers, and audiences involved with the Free Tibet concert earlier this year in Taiwan. Let's keep fighting for justice and freedom, and I believe that all Tibetans will be winners and earn their rights eventually!"

CHTHONIC is currently on tour with SATYRICON in support of its latest album, "Mirror of Retribution", which was issued in the U.S. on September 15 via Spinefarm Records.

Formed in 1995, CHTHONIC (a name deriving from a Greek word signifying spirits of the underworld) has delivered an 11-track body of work that touches on both the spirit and mortal worlds, with loss of national identity and the sometimes turbulent history of their homeland recurring themes.

With ANTHRAX guitarist Rob Caggiano at the production and mixing helm, "Mirror Of Retribution" sees the award-winning musicians further developing a style that started with the 1999 album "Where The Ancestors' Souls Gathered", blending full-on metal of the darker persuasion with traditional Taiwanese instruments such as two-string violin, the hena.

CHTHONIC (pronounced "Thonic") is:

Freddy Lim - vocals
Doris Yeh - bass
Jesse Liu - guitar
Dani Wang - drums
CJ - piano/synthesizer

MASTODON Bassist Talks About Scoring 'Jonah Hex' Film - Oct. 24, 2009
Atlanta progressive metallers MASTODON have written the score to "Jonah Hex", the comic-book Western/horror film starring Josh Brolin in the lead role, with support from John Malkovich, Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Michael Fassbender and Michael Shannon. The movie is based on the DC comic series about a horribly scarred antihero who is "a rough-and-tumble gunslinger and part-time bounty hunter whose adventures always ended in blood."

MASTODON guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds makes a cameo appearance in the film, which is being directed by former Pixar animator Jimmy Hayward for a June 18, 2010 release.

As MASTODON bassist Troy Sanders told Paste magazine, creating a film score wasn't entirely different from the band's usual songwriting process. "Since day one, we've always written albums thinking the music was the score of a movie," Sanders said. "Then we'll create the lyrics or story line on top of that, as if we're writing the dialogue to match the movie's cinematography."

Regarding how much the band was paid to contribute to the film, Sanders revealed it was "basically nothing."

"[The movie budget] covered our studio fees, but it was a break even deal," he said. "Malkovich, Brolin and Megan Fox all took pay cuts to be a part of this movie — that alone speaks volumes about how much people care about this film."

"I guarantee an incredibly popular misconception will be, 'Oh my god, they're selling out doing a fucking comic-book movie. They probably got a huge paycheck and don't give a shit about integrity,'" Sanders continued. "The fact is the exact opposite. We sacrificed another two weeks away from home to give away an album's worth of material for nothing in return but satisfaction in being a part of something incredible."

MASTODON wrote about an hour's worth of music, all instrumental, including five full songs and many smaller musical themes adapted throughout. Some of the material, Sanders said, will likely be adapted for the London Orchestra for particularly epic scenes. "We wrote variations on themes for each character, different variables for a bunch of riffs: faster, slower, heavier, lighter," Sanders said. "It's the Darth Vader approach."

EYES SET TO KILL: New Video Interview Posted Online - Oct. 24, 2009
Stardust conducted an interview with Arizona's EYES SET TO KILL on October 10, 2009 in Tampa, Florida. Watch the chat below.

"The World Outside", the sophomore album from EYES SET TO KILL, sold 2,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD landed at position No. 9 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

Written and recorded by the band in Los Angeles with producer Dave Aguilera (ex-OTEP, BLEED THE DREAM) and mixed by Thom Flowers (THE ATARIS), "The World Outside" showcases the band's evolution from their screamo beginnings into powerful songwriters that resonate raw emotion.

"There were things that I put into this record that I've never told anyone before, not even my sister or some of my best friends," said EYES SET TO KILL's Alexia Rodriguez. "Writing was like therapy to me, because there are times when I feel so alone that I don't know how to express myself other than through music. This is who I am and what I do."

"Heights", the new video from EYES SET TO KILL, was directed by Black Fawn Films' Chad Archibald (ARISE AND RUIN, FAREWELL TO FREEWAY) in Los Angeles.

BRING ME THE HORIZON: New Video Interview Posted Online - Oct. 24, 2009
Full Metal Jackie of Altitude conducted an interview with U.K. metallers BRING ME THE HORIZON backstage at the House of Blues in West Hollywood, California on September 17, 2009. Watch the chat below.

BRING ME THE HORIZON will release a remixed version of its latest album, "Suicide Season", on November 2 via Visible Noise. "Suicide Season - Cut Up" will also include the original version of "Suicide Season" as a bonus and will be packed with "additional treats and good stuff."

"It all started because I had a friend who is into making electro stuff and I asked him if he wanted to remix one of our songs," vocalist Oli Sykes told Rock Sound. "We were stoked on the end result and I thought it would be awesome if we could get every song remixed! We told our label and managers about the idea and they thought it was a good one. From there, we came up with a list of people we would love to remix our songs and started mailing people."

Tek-One, Robot Sonic, Ben Weinman from THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, Outcry Collective, L'Amour La Morgue (Ian Watkins from LOSTPROPHETS), Utah Saints and Shawn "Clown" Crahan from SLIPKNOT are among the musicians and producers who remixed and reinterpreted BRING ME THE HORIZON's music to create "Suicide Season - Cut Up".

According to Sykes, the album will be a surprise to both fans and critics alike.

"To be honest, there's not a song on there that really sounds like the original," he told Rock Sound. "What's great though is the diversity of each song. There's dub-step to hip-hop, electro to drum and bass. It's great!"

"The Sadness Will Never End", the new video from BRING ME THE HORIZON, was filmed in August and September 2009 in Slough, U.K. by Adam Powell and RSA. It features additional vocals by Sam Carter from ARCHITECTS and is the first BRING ME THE HORIZON video to involve a narrative.

CRADLE OF FILTH Frontman Interviewed By Fangoria.com - Oct. 24, 2009
Vocalist Dani "Filth" Davey of British extreme metallers CRADLE OF FILTH was interviewed by Fangoria.com about "The Gospel of Filth: A Black Metal Bible", the new book written by Dani and renowned music journalist Gavin Baddeley ("Dissecting Marilyn Manson", "Lucifer Rising").

To hear the chat, grab the free audio download from the Fangoria podcast in the iTunes music store. Simply click here to open iTunes and go directly to the Fango page, or just search for "Fangoria Entertainment" and subscribe!

The history of CRADLE OF FILTH is but the linchpin that ties the expansiveness of "The Gospel of Filth: A Black Metal Bible" together. With over 500 pages of content, the book reveals the unspoken and debaucherous dark side of humanity as it relates to culture, media, literature, art, film and music. It unearths the mysteries behind our insatiable fascination with vampires, werewolves, serial killers, and the occult, tracing the traditions of depravity — from folklore to pop culture.

"The Gospel of Filth: A Black Metal Bible" includes interviews with all members of CRADLE OF FILTH, past and present, offering their own personal takes on the world of the macabre. In addition, it contains edifying narratives from many of today's dark music ringleaders, including H.I.M., TYPE O NEGATIVE, WITHIN TEMPTATION, PARADISE LOST, SLAYER, GORGOROTH, BEHEMOTH, and many others.

Not limiting itself to the world of music, the book features expansive discussions of dark art, poetry, and other things uttered in hushed tones, accentuated with exclusive interviews with English historian Peter Ackroyd, filmmaker Dario Argento, photographer/author Sir Simon Marsden, and artist JK Potter. If that weren't enough, "The Gospel of Filth: A Black Metal Bible" is textured with rich, decadent testimonials by Guy de Maupassant, Anton LaVey, Stephen King, Marianne Faithfull, HP Lovecraft, Aleister Crowley, and other cultural luminaries.

The first pressing of the book is a signed and numbered, leather-bound, hardcover volume featuring a bonus chapter written entirely by Filth and is only available online at www.thegospeloffilth.com. It will be followed by hardcover and trade paperback editions with different cover art. The hardcover edition will also be limited to online availability, and the paperback (which does not contain the bonus chapter) will be sold in retailers worldwide.

EUROPE: 'Last Look At Eden' Certified Gold In Sweden - Oct. 24, 2009
"Last Look At Eden", the new album from Swedish hard rockers EUROPE, has been certified gold in the band's home country for sales in excess of 20,000 copies.

Note: The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) in Sweden has revised the sales requirements for albums to reach gold status in the country twice in the last seven years — from the pre-2002 level of 40,000 to the current 20,000.

"Last Look At Eden" entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 31. It also topped the Swedish chart in its first week of release.

"Last Look At Eden" was released in Germany on September 18 via earMUSIC/Edel Germany GmbH. The CD was issued in the U.K. on September 14.

"Last Look At Eden" track listing:

01. Prelude
02. Last Look at Eden
03. Gonna Get Ready
04. Catch that Plane
05. New Love in Town
06. The Beast
07. Mojito Girl
08. No Stone Unturned
09. Only Young Twice
10. U Devil U
11. Run With the Angels
12. In My Time

From the epic title track to the melodic ballad "New Love in Town", this album is on another level, less extreme than previous offering, 2006's "Secret Society", and with matured sound, "Last Look at Eden" is a mix of all the elements that have made EUROPE famous the world over.

Commented singer Joey Tempest: "This time we're taking a new direction with our songs, and we're exploring different styles. There is a definite classic rock vibe on several tracks on this album — a tip of the hat to groovin', funkin' '70s rock songs, with a modern twist."

He added: "We've got a couple of great ballads, plus some thundering rock tracks that will put you flat on your ass! We've taken the best bits from our recent albums and taken it to a new level 'Last Look at Eden' is more of a EUROPE album than 'Secret Society' or 'Start From The Dark'. We had to make those albums in order to do this."

EUROPE performed on the summer TV show "Sommarkrysset" on Sweden's TV4 channel on September 5, 2009. Watch video footage of their appearance below.
