KISS was the first concert I went to. Sure it was the farewell tour, but it was awesome seeing the original line up. Come on though how many times can you re-re-re-record somthing. The sad part is, this will still sell. I love KISS but damn.

this would have been better if they picked songs that actually had to be rerecorded... they shoudl have just redid all of dressed to kill because rock bottom and cold gin would be amazing if they had better sound

this won't sell that much.

and

"Rock Bottom" and "Cold Gin" sound great as they were originally recorded. But I do agree that there's plenty of other songs than they chose that would've been better to "upgrade" the sound on (i.e. the whole "Hotter Than Hell" album, for example).

It's debatable exactly how much of these tracks were truly re recorded today. A lot of Stanley's "Whoa-whoa" and "Yay-yay" sound identical to the original as does a lot of the music.

If you're just gonna do a carbon copy of the originals, don't bother. ANTHRAX successfully did this with an updated sound and new/different vocalist. EXODUS and ARCH ENEMY are doing this soon as well.

I also don't know who would actually buy a record like this. Kiss doesn't really have fans anymore at least in any great number. All those people who sell out Kiss concerts are there for nostalgia and could give a rat's ass about new music and certainly won't buy a record like this.

I am a huge KISS fan but this seems to be a waste of their time as well as the fans...I agree redo the first three albums but leave the rest alone...the samples are okay but i enjoy the old sound...preferably on vinyl

I have personally re-recorded the entire Dynasty and Crazy Nights albums, replacing the bass parts with kazoo. Please visit my MySpace page to purchase them. All buyers will receive a cutout copy of the Jigoku-Retsuden cd, described above, to use as a beautiful decorative coaster.

I'm a huge KISS fan but I have to say that this is not really good, nor relevant. Like someone else said, Calling Dr. Love sounds good, but that's about it. All the others are inferior to the original (I don't think Dr. Love is better either, but at least it's kinda cool), much due to the lack of oomph, power and feel.

I enjoy Eric Singer as a drummer very much, but this really shows that he is not even close to the soul of early Peter Criss.

Also, I thought they were supposed to update and put their own/new mark on the songs, but it sounds like they've tried to play them the exact same way as they were once recorded. Strange.

This album owns. Great to hear Thayer and Singer making Kisstory. This n00b above can suck Eric Singer's balls.

It actually doesn't sound all that bad. And it's obvious why it was done, regardless of the posters above who seem confused about it. It was done so next time Kiss need to put a song in a movie, or video game, they can just use these new versions and make themselves a little dough. Unless Ace or Peter has a writing credit on the song, they won't get paid.

Truthfully though they don't sound nearly as bad as I feared. You can say "sounds like shit" whatever, but do you think the original Hotter Than Hell DIDN'T sound like shit? Early Kiss records pretty much always sounded like shit. Until Alive! came along, that is. So if you think this sounds like shit, great, go buy Alive! I guarantee you won't regret that purchase.

"You can say "sounds like shit" whatever, but do you think the original Hotter Than Hell DIDN'T sound like shit? Early Kiss records pretty much always sounded like shit."

Wow, I couldn't disagree more. I agree that the production is not the best, especially on Hotter Than Hell, but it doesn't make it a shitty sounding record. In fact I enjoy the rough production, it makes it more raw and real. The new version of Hotter Than Hell is not even close.

Good call on why this album even exists. As I mentioned above, Stanley's vocals remain intact and where's "Beth", the band's biggest hit? (the track sung by Peter Criss...Hmmmm)

It's obvious this "Album" isn't designed to sell to Fans but to movie and video game companies.

I was listening to some of them, and as Black Diamond started, I was like, you know, sounds pretty good.

Then it got into and I realized it's not Peter singing.

Shut it off.

Thank god this is only coming out in Japan.

i don't see the point...even someone saying if they wanted to use kiss music in rock star or rock band or whatever kinda game like that. Wouldn't ace and peter still get paid royalties for help in writing the original song

It's just like whenever Tool plays no quarter or sells no quarter i'm sure led zepplin is getting their $$$ for it.
