AC/DC's BRIAN JOHNSON On Upcoming Tour: 'At 61, This Could Be My Last Shot'
- Oct. 19, 2008
|
|
AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson recently spoke to Edna Gundersen of USA Today about the band's forthcoming tour in support of the "Black Ice" album. "At 61, this could be my last shot," Johnson said, but he added that the run-throughs "have been smooth as a gravy sandwich." "I try to look after my health," he said. "I don't do a 6-mile jog. I might do a half-hour on a bike in the morning." Johnson expressed amazement at the band's enduring appeal and credited much of its longevity to chemistry and an obsessive focus on music. "People talk a lot about Angus and Malcolm, but that's not fair," he said. "There's more than two brothers. There are five. Malcolm, our spiritual leader, always told us to be a rock band first and a celebrity way, way after that. Stay below the radar, don't get involved in politics, stop covering yourself in glory on the stages of the world." Read more from USA Today.

Johnson's 61 years old. That's insane but then again, Back in Black came out in the summer of 1980.

"don't get involved in politics, stop covering yourself in glory on the stages of the world."
Malcolm needs to seriously talk to Bruce Sucksteen about this...nobody gives a crap about what he thinks or his poor excuse for music.

is from Angus:
'At 61, this could be my last shot," Johnson says, but he adds that the run-throughs "have been smooth as a gravy sandwich."
The years haven't enfeebled Angus, 53, who promises AC/DC's usual spectacle.
"I try to look after my health," he says. "I don't do a 6-mile jog. I might do a half-hour on a bike in the morning."
BM should try to accurately pull out bits from source material.
i heard in an interview with Brian that he actually does jog a few miles a day regularly.
can't wait to see them on what i think is their last big tour.
cheers.

If Bon were still alive, AC/DC would be a different band. Not as bland. It's a damn shame he died. Sure, the band went on but I feel the spirit left the band after Back In Black. If the rest of the band wants to continue, then find some young Bon Scott impersonator and rehash the Bon years. The fans would probably not really care too much. I think any band that has a lead singer whose unwilling or unable to continue in that capacity should step down and be replaced. In this day and with the internet and tribute bands, there are plenty of guys and chicks out there that would trade a limb to tour with a veteran band. Chances are they might even stack up pretty well against the original because they would try that much harder to impress an otherwise very critical audience. Look at KI$$, they've already planned on moving out of performing and having others step in. There half way there. Admittedly, this isn't for every band but a majority of bands out there could withstand a roster change and do as well if not better.

I'm just a casual fan that knows only a few songs of AC/DC, but that doesn't mean I can't be jealous of those who gets to see them live on this tour.
So, so, so, so much respect for them, even if I can't name their songs like other people might be able to.

Angus said that, not Johnson.

if you look at the rate of inflation over the last 30 years, there is no way you can justify the increase in ticket prices. i remember ticket prices, even for AC/DC, costing $9.50-$10. if ticket prices were following the inflation rate, they would be more along the level of $40-$50. maybe you're too young to remember reasonable ticket prices, but i've got more important things to spend $100 on other than AC/DC. besides, already saw 'em years ago....

I agree that ticket prices are too high. But...its the paying customer who sets the prices. If we keep paying the inflated prices, then we are part of the problem.

You're high. Ticket prices are fucking outrageous and there is no real justification for it. I don't whine about it, I just sit out the ridiculously priced ones...
