NINE INCH NAILS Taps LOSTPROPHETS Drummer - Nov. 16, 2008
NINE INCH NAILS has tapped LOSTPROPHETS' Ilan Rubin to handle the drum duties for the group on the road beginning in early 2009. Drummer Josh Freese will exit NIN's current lineup at the end of its current North American tour.

Writing on the NINE INCH NAILS web site, the group's mainman Trent Reznor said regarding the band's latest addition, "I had the chance to see Ilan playing his ass off at Reading and Leeds [festivals in the UK] a couple summers ago and he blew me away. We recently invited him out to rehearse with us and he blew US away — the perfect guy to pick up the sticks after Josh leaves us at the end of the year."

Freese has played with NINE INCH NAILS for the last three years, joining the lineup in late 2005.

Ilan Rubin, 20, began playing drums at the age of 8, when he discovered his father's 1968 Silver Sparkle Ludwig drum kit set up in the garage. He has reportedly taken lessons from BLINK-182's Travis Barker and David Uosikkinen, drummer of famed '80s band THE HOOTERS. He is also an accomplished guitarist and classical pianist.

I'm really hoping Trent stops putting out With Teeth music. I'm pretty sick of it. I'm a big NIN fan, i OWN over 23 albums/singles/videos but stopped after With Teeth. It's all sounding exactly the same now since then. And I'm surprised they got him since LP is in the middle of recording a new record....again...(they scraped the one they just finished and are starting over).

what he means is...

On the first couple of tours ALL of the music was pre-recorded. The only thing live was the singing. NIN threw a fit during the 1991 Lallapalloooooza tour because the tape machine stopped while they were on stage. If you look at the "bootleg" video of them at the Video Bar in Dallas on that first tour, the musicians are mimicing playing.

Combine that with layers and layer of sound AKA: studio magic (the sounds of angry vacuum cleaners) and they seem less than real.

Not that this guy isn't good (he's the only good thing about Lostprophets), but Brian's in a whole 'nother league.

look, NIN will never be more than weak rip offs of Skinny Puppy, and Mind-era Ministry done by an emo kid with tooooo much money.

if you like NIN give some real industrial a spin.

Texas Dog- That's not accurate. They were playing to tracks, just as they and dozens of other bands do. There's a mixture of live playing and prerecorded stuff.

nothing wrong with using adats or laptops to mix pre-recorded music with live music

Josh is an amazing drummer and NIN is absolutely incredible live.

Perhaps Josh is leaving to work on something new with APC. That's of course incredibly far fetched but hell I guess it's possible. I'd love for those guys to come back from the dead and release at least one more album.
