ENSLAVED: North American Tour Cancelled - Nov. 26, 2008
Norwegian masters of progressive/experimental metal ENSLAVED have released the following statement:

"It is with great regret that ENSLAVED has to announce the cancellation of the North American 'Vertebrae' tour [with SWALLOW THE SUN and KEEP OF KALESSIN] scheduled for May 2009. At the heart of the issue lies a tour that was hard to get together in the first place so we've decided to let the whole tour be cancelled and start working on setting up a new North American tour all the way from scratch again. . . Our sincere apologies to all the fans that were ready to come out to these shows; but rest assured — we are working day and night on setting up the new tour that will replace these dates."

ENSLAVED recently traveled to Gothenburg, Sweden to work with Revolver Film Company director and Norwegian award-winner Patric Ullaeus (DIMMU BORGIR, KEEP OF KALESSIN, IN FLAMES) to shoot a video for "The Watcher", a track off the band's latest album, "Vertebrae".

Commented the band: "When we got the chance to work with Patric and Revolver, we grasped it with all ten hands. His works are very impressive. We were first exposed to him through DIMMU's latest video — the whole thing was very professional and remained 'tasty' within the fantasy framework. Our previous videos have been do-it-yourself and we have never worked with special effects on such a high level before. The video is built upon a dual development: the band performing the song in parallel with a story line. The story is based upon [lead singer/bassist] Grutle's lyrics for 'The Watcher' and the story is written out in a co-operation between Grutle and [guitarist/songwriter] Ivar [Bjørnson] from the band, and director Patric Ullaeus. Without spoiling the surprise, the video story follows the lines of the lyrics — the individual's struggle for truth and liberation, about revealing the real chains of existence and breaking them."

oh crap. Dude make sure the next tour includes Detroit, even though only about 5 people like euro extreme metal around here. Everyone else will be hitting up the Lil'Wayne concert, dogg.

Hey Enslaved, make sure you check with Metal Jason before booking your next tour in the states. We wouldn't anyone to tour this country if they don't conform to his musical tastes.

Hopefully Minneapolis is kept on the new tour itinerary! If at all possible, please keep KoK on the tour!

they still need to return to Jaxx

hopefully they get just as good of a lineup for this new tour. I'd like to see Nachtmystium, Baroness, Skeletonwitch, and Wolves In The Throne Room open for them.

In my opinion they're not very extreme...
Also in my opinion they're not all that great!

Frankly I never understood the hype and why they are so popular, lots of other bands are far more interesting...

they're not very extreme?? ok. have you heard anything before Below the Lights?? Lots of other bands are more interesting??? ha ha thats funny.

No other band that I can think of, off hand, has as much firepower and diversity in their back catalog.

Hugely disappointing. This was an awesome bill all the way around.

You can dislike Enslaved all you want, but saying "nobody cares" is just factually inaccurate. I'm pretty sure Ivar said they are getting loads of sales and support in NA these days.

I'll be waiting for the rescheduled tour. Hell, add Code to the original bill and it'll be worth the delay!

I'm disapointed that this tour was cancelled, but I was extremly pissed off that their was no Philly or Allentown date. When they came through on the Ruun tour their was a decent turn-out so I didn't understand that. Hopefully they will work out the problems and get the tour right.
Enslaved=greatest band ever!!!!

You wanna know why Enslaved is so good? Listen to the Frost album and you'll see why.

RandyxJames, Wolves would be good, but Nachtmystium? The ultimate trend hopping "black" metal band you'll ever find. Blake tries so hard. He drops Azentrius, then he tries as hard as he can to push every five seconds that his band is not a black metal band, but when you listen to Instinct Decay, that's definitely black metal. The new one was crap for the most part.

Anyway, Enslaved rules. The Emperor/Enslaved split is one of the most essential black metal albums of all time.

FUCK! FUCK! FUCK!

I had never looked forward to a tour more than this one. Each of these bands make up my top 3 bands of all time.

Enslaved for their masterful black-viking metal, Keep of Kalessin for their 'head-bang-until-said-head-pops-off' extreme/black metal and Obsidian's AMAZING guitar work, and Swallow the Sun for their somber and yet heavy-as-fuck melancholic masterpieces.

I AM FUCKING DISAPPOINTED!

I saw them in one of their first-ever US shows, as a 3-piece, they totally kicked ass. Drilling-fast, not all midtempo like this at all...
