MERCYFUL FATE: New Studio Album On The Way?

According to Denmark's TV 2 VIP, King Diamond has told BT.dk that there is a good chance that a new studio album from his classic heavy metal act MERCYFUL FATE will surface at some point in the not-too-distant future. " Hank [ Shermann, guitar] has written songs [for the proposed MERCYFUL FATE CD]. And he is ready for our new masterpiece," King Diamond is quoted as saying. MERCYFUL FATE's last studio album, "9", was released in 1999. A new two-DVD set of archival MERCYFUL FATE footage is tentatively due this spring. A soundboard-quality audio/video version of METALLICA's MERCYFUL FATE medley performance with King Diamond at the one-day Ozzfest on August 9, 2008 at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas can be found below. MERCYFUL FATE will be remembered for its unquestionable mark on the history of metal with its innovative sound, complex arrangements, memorable melody, and its influence on bands that later took the genre to new heights. In 1998, METALLICA paid tribute to MERCYFUL FATE by recording a medley of classic MERCYFUL FATE songs on the album "Garage Inc." Entitled "Mercyful Fate", the medley included parts from "Satan's Fall", "Curse of the Pharaohs", "A Corpse Without Soul", "Into the Coven" and "Evil". Lars Ulrich of METALLICA (a fellow Dane) played drums on a new version of MERCYFUL FATE's "Return of the Vampire" on the "In the Shadows" album, which came out in 1993.

Well, if you read that, is pretty obvious that a new album is on the way. The headline fits better to a rumor. If you take the "?" out, I think is better.
Anyway, I think is so great to have a new MERCYFUL FATE on the way. It was so sad to read how King Diamond said months ago that a new MERCYFUL FATE album was pretty much a money issue. One of the greatest Heavy Metal bands ever, unable to release a record because it was a russian roulette financially speaking. This world is upside down. I would have paid to this guys 20 bucks in advance just to make it happen (and I am sure many people with me would too). Is this maybe a revolutionary concept that I spontaneously brought to the table. This is, that the fans pay the record in advance, the fans becoming the Gaius Cilnius Maecenas of Heavy Metal?

I think the constant mentioning of Metallica in connection with MF/KD is justified as Metallica has always ridden on the coat tails of the King for way over two decades now for quality and creativity. How can it be justified that Metallica be so much more succesful than KD/MF but only posess a fraction of the talent?
Lars himself would be asking himself the same question.
"And Justice For All"?....there is none in the music industry!

All nostalgia aside I would like to see the original since Kim Ruzz seems to be on speaking terms with the rest of the guys (http://forceofevil.net/photos/mf2007.html).
Regardless I'm sure they will make it a great album!

Unfortunately, the GMYSP tour will never happen - which I'm sure was cancelled for more reasons than King's back. A KD show does have more theatrics, but I would love to see a MF show just the same. Hopefully, the rumored DVD's will help to spur interest for a large tour. Maybe Metallica could open for them.
