JIMMY PAGE's Manager Defends Decision To Tour And Record Without ROBERT PLANT

According to Xfm, Peter Mensch, LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page's manager, has said that Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham are likely to record and tour with a new singer. Mensch told the BBC 6 Music, "People don't really understand it. Jimmy Page has been playing guitar professionally since he was 16 years old. Jimmy Page likes being a musician. That's what he does! He doesn't want to be a race car driver or a solicitor. "They decided that if they could find a singer that they thought would fit their bill — whatever their bill was at this stage in their career — that they'd make a record and go on tour… That's what Jimmy Page does." Peter Mensch, whose QPrime stable also includes RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS and METALLICA, declined to speculate on a possible replacement for singer Robert Plant. "I can't comment on any rumors right now," said the manager, "It's gonna be a long and difficult process. And we're not soliciting people! So don't call me about it!"

I think I would prefer a different singer, you know damn well if they do a Zep lp, there is no way in hell its gonna stand up,
Even remotely to the back catalog, case in point Walking into Clarksdale
Plant is crooner now, and not heavy rock, actually the Alison Krause lp has some decent numbers on it.
With Jones and Bonham, and a new singer, hopefully one that plays guitar and writes as well, we could hope for something
Along the lines of Coverdale/Page, which is prolly the best post Zep work he has done.
I would even go as far to say, Maybe Glenn Hughes would be an intersesting choice.

don't call it Zep, & that's fine. And I think Plant is doing the right thing, it keeps the legacy in tact, they did that one show, but Plant doesn't have it anymore for Zep, he can do a few songs well, like Kashmir, the song where he sang lower, but the old early stuff...that was bombastic young man's rock...Page should play if he wants, new singer, it will go over about as well as Coverdale/page, for what that was worth....of course the manager supports Page, that's what he's paid to do, & he want's a bigger paycheck as well.

they should NOT do this. touring is one thing, but recording an album? if they must, i would say myles kennedy, but its just stupid. that will probably break up one of the only new rock bands worth listening to, on top of just being ridiculous.
i think they are still just bluffing anyway.
and robert plant is being a douche. its the right decision to reform now because jason bonham is a tremendous drummer and the only drummer that anyone will accept as a replacement for his father.

He and Robert were best friends. If Robert didn't want to do it, Bonham would probably say "OK, f it then".

...that Jimmy Page had a career BEFORE Led Zeppelin, right? The guy plays guitar - if he wants to play with Jones and record and tour that's his decision. No, it's not Zeppelin (thank god - because Plant sucks ass anyway) and they won't call it that.
Reform the Yardbirds - they were cooler than Led Zep anyway.

they already stated it won't be called Zep. If it were, that would be blasphemy, but its a new group....Plant's not being a douche, for ONCE an old rocker is realizing his limitations & not totally pissing on the great memory of Led Zep. He admitted he can't play the Zep style rock well anymore. That 02 concert, they were tuned down a full step. You are seeing Zep in name only at that point. They were an amazing in your face live band, cock rock at its best. Like VH, it aint that anymore. He doesn't want to relive the past. Seeing the Stones now, its a sham.

I know I'm being a hypocrite by saying this but...
Why even bother commenting on stories like this? It's just the same old shit over and over again. "They better not call it Led Zeppelin!", "It doesn't make a difference!", "They better not play Led Zeppelin songs!". Reading through these comments is almost as bad as thinking that there's something relevant after the actual news story on a blabbermouth post.
On that note. That's good shit that they're going to tour. I'd love to see Jimmy Page live.

anyway my assumption makes more sense...what dad wouldn't be proud if his son had grown into a great drummer and then stepped into his shoes.
no one can replace bonham, but jason bonham can come the closest, and is someone that everyone accepts as the best possible replacement you could have dreamed of.

Great. So find a singer and tour. Make a record, even. Just don't go calling it Zeppelin.
It's one thing to have Jason sitting on Dad's throne. It makes sense, and I'm pretty sure that Bonzo is either smiling down on him or smiling up on him, whichever the case may be.
But if a living member is not into touring, calling it Zeppelin is asking for trouble.
Hey, Sabbath went out with Dio and called it "Heaven And Hell", even though they really didn't need to legally. The fans have accepted it, and it worked really well.
So call it "Coda" or something.

How would some of you guys like it if someone decided you can't listen to your favorite music anymore? Just because. That's how stupid some of you sound when telling legends that they can't make music anymore because of what they once were and somehow it's not the right thing to do.
Page and Jones are in their 60s, they will never be the Zeppelin of the 70s, it's impossible! But they still love making music. More power to them. If you don't like it, don't listen to it. Is anyone forcing you to listen to Brittany Spears?

Its not going to be billed as a Zep reunion cause theyr not going under the name Zep. They are going to record new material so that gives them the right to tour. Robert dosent mind if they play the Zep catalog w/out him cause he has been doing it for years w/ his own band. soo shut the hell up already, theyr Rockgods , theyr going to do whatever they feel like.

play anything Plant wrote. No Quarter and Moby Dick, who-hoo, a 2 song set for well over $100. Alter Bridge singer couldn't handle plant's tissue and he would be the singer of this garbage. This is all about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Good for Plant, this is the 1st time he's having true success since Zep and he deserves it. Shit, I can listen to folk music cause of him and look at my name!
