KING DIAMOND Issues Update

King Diamond (real name: Kim Bendix Petersen; KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE) has issued the following update:
"As it might have come to your attention by now, MERCYFUL FATE will be a part of Guitar Hero: Metallica with the song 'Evil'. This is part of the surprise I have earlier mentioned, but it's only a small part of the surprise. Full details will follow when permitted.
"Regarding the DVD projects, I am currently working on the KING DIAMOND DVD projects myself, with Livia's [King Diamond's 24-year-old Hungarian wife] help on programming.
"It's really beginning to shape up, but as I'm sure some of you already know, I am faced with a very steep learning curve. We're dealing with very long files (five-camera, multi-camera edit for the one-hour, 35-minute long Copenhagen show from 1990), and editing is very time-consuming.
"As I mentioned, my back is continuously getting better, but five hours in front of the computer per day is the limit. We ARE working on this every single day, but it's impossible to estimate a release date at this point.
"Right now this KING DIAMOND DVD is the top priority to get finished.
"Next will be to find and optimize at least one bonus video clip for each of the four remastered KING DIAMOND albums: 'Spider's Lullabye', 'The Graveyard', 'Voodoo' and 'House Of God'. THEN, we focus on doing the MERCYFUL FATE DVD. Once the MERCYFUL FATE DVD has been delivered to the record labels, I plan to invest in much better songwriting equipment and start working on new KING DIAMOND/(MERCYFUL FATE???) material, and then we go from there.
"The knowledge gained from working on these DVD projects myself, will hopefully come in very handy with regards to creating exciting bonus material for upcoming albums (such as story narrating in full makeup like on 'The Puppet Master', footage from songwriting sessions, studio sessions, etc; all in all, some special insight into what goes on behind these walls, these thick black walls stuffed with demons and Grandmas... stop stop... I gotta stop... you get the picture).
"This is the best update I can give you at this point.
"Sorry for not being able to give you the full scope of our participation in the Guitar Hero: Metallica video game at this point."

I guess to you bands like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden are not REAL metal either. King "cubic zirconia" doesn't deserve recognition as a metal vocalist. He's a gimmick without talent. Without his band he'd be another dweeb on Karaoke night. If he played guitar or something he may have some redemption. Black Funeral is awesome. The entire Don't Break the Oath album had enormous potential but the "screaming hyena on helium" vocals ruined it's chances.
Ask yourself why Mercyful Fate never hit it big. It's pretty clear. He's a retarded old man that's pretending to be evil. He's about as sinister as bubble gum in a black wrapper.
I hate King Diamond because he is a disgrace to true metal.
Why don't YOU go listen to The Darkness? I'm sure you'll appreciate the vocal stylings. })~

Yeah moron and I guess Tom Araya's high pitched screams at the beginning of "Angel Of Death" and "Live Undead" and pretty much through a lot of "Show No Mercy" and "Hell Awaits" are unmetal and a gimmick.
I guess you forget that screaming high was featured a lot in the founding metal bands and was quite the common place. Oh wait I guess you are about 12 and don't remember any of that music.
You act like the guy just sings falsetto the entire time which proves you know nothing about this guy. He has a damn good range from super low to high.

I was listening to bands like M.F., Venom, Possessed, Nuclear Assault, Death, Sanctuary and many more when I was a teen back in 1985.
Did you kids know that the song KING NOTHING was about King Diamond? Oh wait, you thought it was some reference to Christ...right?
I grew up with Priest and Maiden. I cut my teeth on bands like Motorhead and Fates Warning. I APPRECIATE METAL. I PLAY METAL. I LIVE METAL. I just hate cartoony bastards like King Diamond desecrating it with bullshit.
He was a cheezy marketing tool that didn't work.
King Diamond didn't influence shit. HIS BAND DID.

i can definitely appreciate the guys vocal abilities, but for me, he just doesn't pull it off as well as someone like, say, halford. i don't know if it's just the timing of his high notes that i don't like, or if it just doesn't seem to fit the songs or go along with his regular singing voice. his singing just ruined it for me. the rest of the band is great. i'd love to hear those songs with a different singer.

I'll accept the Slayer rebuke. He did have his lame moments of wailing. However, it was sparse throughout their music. It was by no means signature.
To say Metallica sucks is insane. Have you tried to actually play their old music? Let's see you execute Jump in the Fire perfectly while singing it. I've seen James do it.
I'm no idiot. I'm just a die hard fan with die hard opinions. Any true metalhead will respect that.

I interviewed the dude for a magazine I worked for back in 2000 and he is an amazing guy and very intelligent. He is not some cartoon or act he knows his shit about the occult, religions, and ancient history and societies.

You guys are just using limited versions of the truth while ignoring the whole thing. King Diamond has a... unique voice. It's a matter of taste. You can either love it or hate it. I hated it at first, but now I like it, when it's appropriate. He totally overuses the falsetto and uses it most of the time. And I'm pretty sure the reason people listen to Merycful Fate is because of the instrumentals, which are brilliant. King Diamond was an added bonus, but don't give him all the credit. He was an interesting overdub. Nobody really believes that he's evil, and everyone knows it's just a gimmick and a joke, even if they do love him.

This guy's attempt to infuriate us is totally hilarious. There is not a sane metalhead in the world that would attempt to discredit the influence MF/KD had in the gender.
Good to hear you're personally involved in the making of the DVD King. I'm sure you'll set up your usual quality standards and the result will be awesome. Especially the MF material is most welcomed, since all we have is poor quality bootleg releases from past shows. I hope that your back gets a bit better every day and that we'll soon see you back in Greece for a concert.

I was 17 when Melissa was released.
From that moment in 1983 to tonight sitting at my laptop listening to metal and balancing my checking account . . .
That album is one of the greatest in the history of METAL.
To the dude who mentioned MAIDEN and FATES WARNING, how can you not place MELISSA along side Awaken the Guardian, Powerslave, Reign in Blood and the other greats of that era?
I predict Mercyful Fate will be bigger than ever with the song being on the game.

I downloaded the album 'Melissa' from iTunes the day that Metallica played with him at ozzfest. It is an excellent album, the falsetto is offputting but its like extreme vocalists, you end up liking it if there is quality music backing the vocals up.
I grabbed Don't break the oath because I heard it was their best but in my mind it failed to live up to the standard that Melissa set.

That King Diamond had more of a vocal influence on mordern Black Metal. The 90's Norwegian bands and the Death metal influence really ruined it for me. Mercyful Fate was a phenomenal band, and had it not been for the satanic influence (fake or not) they would have been a hell of a lot bigger.

he does play guitar. did you think that the band writes the songs and he sings them. think again and do your research. although hes not playing it on stage doesnt mean hes not writing songs. he played guitar on some of the Fatal Portiat album. I used to like Slayer until i figured out what fakes they (mostly Kerry King) are.

Don't bother arguing with people who don't have music taste. King Diamond is an amazing vocalist who is always joined by amazing musicians. To not enjoy the masterpieces of metal he has helped made is saying you do not truly enjoy metal.
Some people are just stuck with their popular metal, Metallica and Slayer...why are they mentioned here i don't know, but anything unique, like King Diamond's very unique voice.. are not accepted by the average moron.

I love ALL the work of KD and MF AS IT IS, period, and for me he will always make quality music and I will buy all of his stuff. I love his voice and the atmospheres he creates and I know some people hate his voice, but I don´t mind. I grew up with the 80´s bands as well, but I differ in the opinion of frontmanlord. His influence in bands is awesome, and he cannot be compared to anyone (fuck comparisons). Can´t wait for anything he does, and get better man we fucking need you!!!!!!! Horns up!!!!!!!!

King Nothing WAS NOT about King Diamond. It wasn't about anyone in particular and was a song used as a metaphor for bring those down who use others for their own gain, getting caught in the mix and falling themselves. It's said by many to be either about the downfall of Michael Jackson and Axl Rose' career but the band has not went out and said anything other than what I just eluded to.
I have never claimed to be King Diamond's biggest fan but he deserves respect where it's due for his contribution to the Heavy metal scene which is looked at as huge inspirations by bands such as Metallica & Slayer.
"True Metal" what the fuck is that? I've never heard of true Metal before. The genre has been whored by so many different "artists" through the years, I'm surprised nobody has come up with Clown Metal.
King Diamond came from a time where being Metal actually meant having a shitload of musical talent, now being Metal for the most part means you're just as useless to music as a dirty diaper to a babies ass.
Respect the King, not many exist in this business like him are around to say they had a career that went as far as he did and that's the gods honest truth.

MF a thousand times better than KD. I like Andy, but Hank and Michael rule. Shermann was always the main songwriter in terms of music. Sometimes Diamond spoiled the songs with the lyrics (not in the first records). In the last years he tried to make it more kind of theatrical, trying to put words where they do not fit.

King Diamond DOES play guitar and writes most of the material in his band...and like half of the MF stuff too...so whoever said hed appreciate him more if he played u r an asshole
even if u dont like his falsetto, his lower voice that he uses is great
King knows that his voice and music isnt for everyone...but he has not changed b/c hes not a sellout...he is true to his style and his fans...not to mention his storylines on his albums are AWSOME

Man, I really miss the days where you could talk about Iron Maiden, Slayer, Metallica, Judas Priest, Exodus, Voivod, Testament or even Prong and it was just called............Metal.

Well I am little pissed off with the shit that is been written here. You believe that metallica and slayer even compare with the king. Look something all these years i have heard people spiting shit on maiden, priest, sabbath e.t.c If you dont't like this bands simply, you don't like metal. Mercyful fate it was one of the pioneer bands also in their genre and simply have nothing to do with Metallica and Slayer. Do a favor to metal fans and to yourself, quit metal and start listening Madonna.
