EDDIE VAN HALEN Considering New Tunes With DAVID LEE ROTH - Feb. 2, 2009
Eddie Van Halen will wed his fiancée (and publicist), Janie Liszweski, in June. Then, he'll attend the high school graduation of his son — and bass player — Wolfgang. But after that, Eddie hopes to release new music with the current incarnation of the legendary band that bears his name. And, as he tells Spinner.com, yes, that includes David Lee Roth.

"Dave, Wolfie, Alex and I are a band," he tells Spinner.com in an interview. "I hope that after Janie and I get married, and Wolfie graduates, that we sit down and discuss recording new music, which I have tons of. If Dave's up for singing ... then do another tour, and just see where it takes us. Actually, next week or the week after Wolfie, Alex, and I are gonna start jamming. Maybe we'll give Dave a call and see what he's up to. He's off, always doing his own thing, and he checks in every now and then to see how we're doing."

I'd be more shocked about VH releasing a quality album than I would be to see a full blown reunited tour. I just think Eddie's too far gone.

I'd rather have Sammy Hagar singing anyway.

Eddie claimed he had 10 albums worth of material before the Sam tour of 2004. It must have taken 4 albums worth of stuff to pull together the 3 new songs for the Best of Both Worlds compilation.
Don't get me wrong, I love Eddie and wish him good health but he and his brother have a bit of a reputation of jerking the fans around at this point.

If they can release a good album, I'll buy it. If they can keep the lineup together for another tour, I'll consider going but these guys need to rebuild their band still at this point in my eyes.

Why? Because he has a better band right now. Sammy is a more talented (especially in '09) singer and lyricist than Roth, Chad Smith is a far better drummer than Alex, and Joe Satriani? Chickenfoot will kick all ass!

There's no further proof that Ed is sober, healthy and focused on his band.He finally came to his senses and realized how important DLR is to the bands success and legacy.....Hagar is a no talent, fatso fronting some band called ChickenFoot.[great name btw] with the ex chubby bass player.Look for that band to be playing bars and state fairs this summer.

Theoretically, the band is more "Van Halen" now with Wolfie, than it ever could've been with Mike. Maybe we'll get a Van Halen/Chickenfoot tour in the future (never in a million years).

Nothing can be taken away from the early VH albums but it'd be nice to see the band touring with new material (in the vein of the old material) along with the older material.

On another note, my friend Jane shares her birthday with EVH ironically enough. Except her nickname in high school was usually Janey (with a "y").

funny, I sort of sence Dave isn't that into it either. I've read a few things, like Dave keeps very separate from them. I always thought DLR would kill to be back & regain some stardom...I'll take some new material out of curiousity, but DLR has nothing vocally anymore(the VH Brothers said he had nothing left in 1996), despite a good effort, & what rock band ever has put out something better than "decent" at age 55? I guess Wolfie brings the average age down, but the vintage days are long gone.

plus Dave can't sing for shit anymore i saw them in 2007 and he was worse than in 1984 forgeting the words and straining on every note.
Sorry, I'll skip this one.

Eddie is jealous again that Sammy is going to be making music again, so now he has to do it.
I remember in 2007 Sammy was doing NASCAR and Eddie had to jump in to do it. Sammy sold his prize cars so Eddie had to beleive it or not in 2003 Sammy had a signature guitar out before Eddie's Wolfgang guitar. it seem that all you guys out there complain about Sammy sqauking, but it really is Eddie doing the jealousy game here.
Sammy is just doing busness as usual and doing it right too.

Why don't you listen to it, it still sound great and Humans Beings was the way they were going in 1996 begore Sammy Hagar left the band because Eddie started to go in to his bubble.

I think that the tour was what many fans wanted but I think Van Halen is fooling themselves if they think that they can find the early days magic again. Dave is at that "I perform in Vegas" mindset these days and I am not sure that he even cares about recording new material. Van Halen (in my opinion) is at the same stage as the Stones, Skynyrd and Kiss..... they make their money on the past. (not saying that there is anything wrong with it) I just don't think that new material would be well recepted.

This thread is about Eddie, and he is seriously thinking on doing another album.

Vol. 1 G.H. were unreleased material from the pre-1984 VH

BoBW G.H. were unreleased material from the pre-1996 VH

The only thing Eddie has to compare with is VH III which was left over material from what he had in 1996 from the cutting room floor.
And his Porn stuff. If you want to count that as VH music.

Both versions of Van Halen were great Dave was the first but Sammy kept it going. It was Eddie that ruin this band with III and if he decides to do another Album with anyone he will ruin the legecy of Van Halen like he did with Cherone.
Even though I think KISS had a pretty good Album with Phsyco Circus, it rocked for a bunch of old time rockers that are wahed up. But, all the original members were there. And they produce musically with new material before that for years.

you're damn right unfortunately. I am a big fan, of their heyday. VH is now in the "legacy" phase of their career. Their releases will be on par with the Rolling Stones releases of the last 20 years. Rock History tells us this. Why would VH, a disfunctional mess of a band, be different. They're going to release another Fairwarning? Eddies has retreaded old riffs since the 80's. Roth, who I preferred in his prime over Sammy, is fried, both in studio vocally, & live. He gives the effort, but it aint there anymore. His pattened whistle scream is long gone, it was gone on "Me wise Magic"...I'm not much of a Sammy Fan, but he probably brings more to the table at this point. I don't ever care if he could technically sing better than Roth(speaking of both guys in their prime), Roth was far better at creating, keeping the lid on lots of Eddie's corny ballads. (Dreams was rejected by Roth, rightfully so). While Roth might not be Shakespeare with the lyrics, singing mostly about cars, guitars, girls, sex, drugs & R&R, Sammy may be one of rock history's worst Lyricist, with Paul Stanley. Forget the goofiness of Wham bam Amsterdam, I'll take "dreams" as one of the lamest Postcard lyrics ever "dry your eyes, save all the tears you cried cuz that's what dreams are made of", or whatever it says. Horrible. What did they expect plucking the singer who brought you "I can't drive 55" & "your love is driving me crazy". Rubbish rock....The Mighty Barnstorming VH is a memory. Like seeing the Stones or any of the 55+ bands, you have to suspend reality to really enjoy, make consession after concession. VH was a shell of theirselves on 2007 tour. Musically & energy wise. The Karyoke versions of Jump & I'll wait with the piped in Keyboards, a disgrace. Great set list, the performance wasn't there. Its a watered down greatest hits act now. With only a couple exceptions, that's what happens at that age.

with Eddie on guitar and Dave on vocals, can't go wrong there. By the way, Dave is awesome, but he has never been a good singer.
