VAN HALEN Album On Hold Until WOLFGANG Graduates
- Feb. 17, 2009
|
|
|
World Entertainment News Network reports that Eddie Van Halen has told Hustler magazine that VAN HALEN has put its plans for a new studio album on hold so that so the group's youngest member, Wolfgang Van Halen (Eddie's 17-year-old son), can finish high school.
Eddie Van Halen said, "We're just waiting for the right time. I took Wolfie out of school for a whole year to do the tour. It was just a bad time because the 11th grade is the year when they prep you for college. First he graduates, then we'll sit down, give (frontman) Dave (Lee Roth) a call and see if he feels like whooping and hollering a little bit. I've got a ton of music."
He added, "Just a few weeks ago I almost yanked him out of school. But I do want him to graduate. The thing is, he already has a profession and a career that he's successful, talented and gifted at."
VAN HALEN recruited Wolfgang, then 15, to play bass with the band when they kicked off its 2007 world tour.
Eddie Van Halen told Hustler, "He showed me a thing or two. Like when we were rehearsing for the tour, I hadn't played some of the songs in almost 25 years, so I had to relearn the shit. I'd start playing and Wolfgang would say, 'Dad, you're playing it wrong.' I'm going, 'Shit, of all people to kick my ass, it's my own son.'"
Eddie Van Halen will marry his fiancée/publicist Janie Liszewski this summer in a ceremony officiated by his older brother and bandmate Alex. The couple will wed in the backyard of Van Halen's California home in June.
Eddie Van Halen told Hustler, "It's a small wedding, with only family and a few close friends here at home in our backyard. It'll be nice. My brother is going to marry us. He can actually legally marry us. He's an ordained minister. Reverend Al. It's gonna be great."

I agree. This sucks because I was hoping they would strike while the irons hot, the more time that passes means the more chance that Eddie and Dave will find a reason to feud again. Thanks to Hustler magazine also for delivering that hard hitting music journalism that we've come to expect from them.

This Just In. Eddie Van Halen Fires Wolfie for hocking his Red and White Striped Ho Ho's.
Screw Magazine Reports that Ed was sidelined by it all when he found out that his own son was trying to make money on the side. Ed is quoted as saying, "THe first Fat F*ck sold his hot sauce on the side and I'll be Damned if my own son is going to hock Lttle Debbie's"...
Wolfie was in tears when he heard the news he was fired during his third period lunch break, one of two as stipulated in his rider.
He hopes that they can mend fences before Ed has another blow up over Dave. If not Screw Magazine has learned that the person to fill Wolfie's place at bass is none other then Firehouse Bass Player Perry Richardson.
As Ed told Screw, "He's already fat and since he's not had a paying gig in a while I don't think he'll have anything to hock until the thrid semi-reunion tour".
All eyes are on the VH camp. More later from your source of #1 music news, Screw Magazine...

should go start his own band with kids his age. At 17 he has to deal w/DLR & father, who are in their mid 50's. He'll have $$ regardless. If he is that talented, the cream will rise to the top. He has no stage presense though. I know he's 17, but I'm sure Ed was already at home on stage at the age, Roth was since he was old enough to have an ego.

Normally, I wouldn't care who plays bass guitar either. This is a unique situation. What gave Van Halen their one of a kind sound, no matter who was singing, was the backing vocals of Michael Anthony. He is the most unique back up singer in rock history. He was what gave them their sound. You just cannot replace that. You're not simply replacing a bass player, which is usually an easy task.

I couldn't agree more. Mike Anthony did have a big part in the band. Not to mention, some bands yeah, you don't care about the bassist, but VH, everyone knew all the members well...they did keep it in the family, but when ever possible its great to keep the original guys, which keeps the bands sound in check.

...about Michael Anthony!
Michael Anthony has openly hated David Lee Roth for years. Michael Anthony has openly preferred Sammy to the VH brothers. Michael Anthony didn't say shit about whether or not it was a real reunion when Dave was out of the band. Neither did the so-called 'real' Van Halen fans. Those dipshitz that say 'it's not VH without Michael Anthony' are the same dipshitz that kept their mouths closed when Dave wasn't in the band.
Van Halen has the perfect - read them lips - perfect line-up right now. Dave on vocals, Eddie on guitar, Alex (finally pounding the skins for the first time in 25 years) and Wolfie, who prefers only the old pre-1985 stuff, and who we can all THANK for the reunion of all reunions 2007-2008 - gawd bless 'em!
I've seen Wolfie live and yes I've seen Michael Anthony live.
Wolfie can duplicate Mike's riffs to a T - and he's only 18!
Anyone who disagrees either isn't a VH fan at all, or they're a die-hard Van Hagar fan. And in either case, you suck. Period.
Enjoy these FACTS (something Van Hagar fans are allergic to):

what a load of crap. EVERYONE openly hated DLR, he was a pain in the ass. Eddie & Al spoke more crap about DLR to fill a whole book. M.A. didn't "prefer" Sam to VH Bros, he stayed friends with him & Eddie was such a miserable piss ant he couldn't deal with that, instead made up a lame reason "Mike just wanted to sell his hot sauce & was in another band with Sam". Bullsh*t....Anthony didn't say it was a real reunion? Well, DLR was out of the band, what's he going ot say? And for the fans, some liked Sammy better, but I for one always said the real VH was & is with DLR. I don't care for the majority of the Sammy years. But, I'm guessing had DLR stayed in the band, they would have gone more commerical & less rocking as years went on. Its what happens to every band.
Wolfie can duplicate anthony's playing, WHO CARES? So can a million bass players, but there are a ton of guitarist that can do the same for Eddie. why not replace them? ane Wolfie CAN"T replace the background vocals, & any REAL FAN would know those backing vocals are a key ingredient to their classic sound....do you think if Mike was in the DLR version of VH now he'd be pleading to do "dreams". What the F are you talking about? Wolfie prefers the DLR stuff, DLR IS IN THE BanD!...and the DLR STuff is superior, it was made when they were young & hungry...
I'm not even pro Mike A, but he got the shaft & any TRUE Van Halen fan would would want the original band together, as I saw them in '81. BTW, Wolfie has ZERO stage presense. Doesn't belong out there with a world class band...and DLR is a broken down shell of himself unfortunately too. Its over!

Van Halen has become a heritage act. It would be nice to see a new release from them, but no one is holding their breath. Eddie has every right to live his life and leave it at that.
I'm not taking DLR_EngineRoom's bait. Dude, give it up. Those arguments have been spent a million times over here and on the Links. Your opinion is completely valid, but try to lay off the purple kool-aid a bit. Seriously. Anyone denying the importance of Michael Anthony is NOT a Van Halen fan in the truest sense.

well said. And I heard the backing vocals were piped in. I certainly knew the keyboards were for Jump & I'll wait. I might be in the minority, but I found that concert with DLR to be a real disappointment. Roth, while giving the effort, simply can't do it anymore, gone are is trademark whistle screams, the energy was real low, the piped in music. A band that was bombastic was mediocre, & Ed was sloppy at many points(Mean St solo)....definitely a Heritage act....perfectly said re: the importance of Mike. And Ed just treated him like a dog. They even took his picture off the Women & Children 1st album cover on their website. how childish. Like he never existed. They went added it back after everyone called them out.

Ed VH is a seriously disturbed man. First, he hates Roth and throws him out of the band for decades. Then he hates Hagar(who he should idolize, because let's face it, if not for the first Montrose album, there would be no VH as we know them) then he hates Anthony who was there through thick and thin. Then he decides that money is more important than his hate, so Roth is back. Wouldnt it be hilarious if Wolfgang joined Chickenfoot? Then Eddie could hate his own son! Ahh the circle of life.

The replies received....wow.
It's seriously disturbing to see how many will come to the aid of the underdog - in this case Sammy Hagar - regardless of how he nearly murdered a perfectly kick-ass metal band.
The stats speak for themselves. I can accept that there will always be those who argue for the sake of arguing, and meanwhile, will deny and complain about the facts.
So, OK. Whine if you must. Complain that poor li'l Mikey the Wuss wasn't included in the biggest reunion since KISS.
Truth is, by all means, Mike was a great contribution to the original magic - no denying that.
But music is heavily influenced by emotion and consciousness. IE: Where your heart is at, and where your head is at.
Not that there's anything wrong with it - objectively - but Mike openly preferred Sammy Hagar to the VH bros for several years. The so-called reunion with Hagar in 2004 wasn't supposed to include Mike, but Hagar insisted.
Do I have anything against Mike? No, he made some great contributions, period, no dispute there. He's got an amazing family and he seems like a pretty balanced dude. So no, nothing against him personally.
But if he wonders (which he did, publicly) why he wasn't included in the REAL reunion, he need not go any further than checking his head, and his mouth. He's been dissing Dave since 1986 and more recently the VH bros. He never - not once - said that it wasn't a reunion without DLR. Not once. OH, but yet DLR get together with the VH bros and now suddenly it's not a reunion. Says him. And says the other Van Hagar sheep that hate the facts.
So my point is, the answer should be obvious as to why he's no longer in VH. He made the choice, the VH bros. just moved forward based on his decision, that's all.
And besides, there wouldn't have been any reunion with DLR without Wolfie. Literally impossible. Wolfie preferred the real version of VH, and rightly so. Because his dad and uncle respect his opinion, and the timing was right from DLR's perspective, the reunion happened. Bottom line: you can thank Wolfie for the real reunion, and thank Sammy for the fake one.
Defense rests, your honour. No further questions.
Case dismissed.
Questions?:

I don't think anyone was pro Sammy in any of the rebuttles to you. THey were simply stating Michael Anthony's position. MA was bad mouth Roth since 1986, if he was bad mouthing, what was EVH doing? There is ONE reason he's not in VH anymore, he stayed friends with Sammy, & miserable insecure Eddie couldn't deal with it. ...no ones whining, they are stating their opinions like you are, only its an opposing opinion. And you don't even have your facts straight. No one is calling the hagar reunion the real reunion. People would have liked to see the original members. And that isn't knocking Wolf, but the kid can't do the backup vocals & is like a deer in the head lights on stage.

Mike and Sam tried to start a new band, Planet Us ,but the guy's from Journey didn't want to be a VH cover band!!!
If Mike had a better WORK ethic and showed up for work, he'd still be in VH!
Sam convinced Mike that VH needed him more than Mike needed them! WRONG!!!!
I can't believe how many LADY'S on this site buy albums for the BACKGROUND VOCALS! You LADY'S are Hard Core!!!! Maybe you Lady's can critique the back-up vocals for the new Hanna Montanna! Come on Slash and Neil, the other thirteen year old girl's are waiting! In the meantime the rest of us will be listening to VH1 because it ROCKS!!!!!!!

Planet US didn't fly, because Sammy and Mike were asked to get back with Van Halen by Eddie in 2003 for the 2004 tour and the release of "Best of Both Worlds G.H". But then Eddie stabbed them in the back and told Mike he wanted no part of him. That is why Sammy left again.
