UFO Drummer Issues Studio Update - Feb. 17, 2009
UFO drummer Andy Parker has issued the following update:

"Thought it was about time that I brought you up to date with what's been happening on the UFO front recently. As most of you know, we finished touring at the end of August '08 and after some well deserved rest we began collecting material for a new album. Everyone pitched in ideas so there was plenty of stuff to chose from.

"We all met up in Hannover towards the end of January and after a few days in a rehearsal room we came up with a short list of thirteen songs. At this point Phil [Mogg; vocals] and Vinnie [Moore; guitar] headed home to work on their parts while myself, Paul [Raymond; keyboards, guitar], our surrogate bassist (oddly enough also called Peter) and drum tech extraordinaire Andre headed to Area 51 studios in Celle to record drum tracks with our old pal Tommy Newton. This was my first time at Tommy's studio and I have to say I am extremely happy with the results. I had already decided that for this album I wanted to try and 'get back to my roots' a bit, as far as the drum sound was concerned and I was not disappointed. Thanks to the combined efforts of Andre and Tommy, the kit sounded amazing and the whole experience was thoroughly enjoyable. Interspersed with cups of Andre's special tea and large doses of Rab C. Nesbitt (one of Tommy's favourites), our work days were fun and productive — as you can see from the photos! I for one can't wait to hear the finished tracks.

"Of course, the one downer in all of this was the absence of Mr. Way [UFO bassist Pete Way]. Those of you who have read the news release will already know the reason [Way is dealing with a medical condition which affects his liver], so I won't go into it again. Suffice to say that we all wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on top very soon.

"That is about all for now. Phil is heading to Germany once again to begin recording vocals. We are hoping that the album will be released some time in May/June to coincide with the start of our touring schedule."

UFO's latest CD, "The Monkey Puzzle", came out in September 2006 via SPV Records. The follow-up to 2004's "You Are Here" was recorded at Area 51 studios with producer Tommy Newton, who also worked with the band on their prior album and who recorded the material for the band's "Showtime" live CD.

They did their best studio album without him, 'The Wild, Willing and the Innocent'. Regardless whether you think that's their best, you can't really deny its hard rock pedigree. Also, you know they sort of had the band going for a few years before Schenker...

talked about or even mentioned if Schenker had'nt joined the band? "Prince Of Kujui" or whatever the song was. Name all their hits before and after he joined and left the band. Without him joining, we would'nt be speaking of them.

That's HIS opinion. That album is below average compared to the Schenker classics.

No Schenker = NU FO

NOT UFO

Schenker/Way/Mogg/Parker/Raymond = UFO

BTW I was 13th row center when Stranger's In The Night was recorded at the Amphitheater here in Chicago.

in the studio, there were drugs everywhere...high blood pressure medicine, high cholsterol mediccation...

Dudes! if you're waiting on Mr. Way and Mr. Schenker...you realize you'd be waiting forever. (Unless you're waiting at a bar). Schenker cancelled his last tour tours in Texas. And UFO...they came to Fort Worth. and did a good show!
But Mr. Way had some reason not to be there....

addicts ALWAYS have a reason they can't do something.

name anything schenker has done since he left UFO that remotly comes close to what he did with them or the great music they have made without him.I bough his first 2 solo records becaus I bought the hype he was responsible for thier sound. nothing could be further fron the truth!his solo work sucks in comparison to UFO!the only listenable stuff he has done is the work with Robin mccauly and that is because of the voice not his guitar. meanwhile UFO cranks out great albums with the classic sound we all know and love. so the real talent behind UFO is Phil and Pete not the flaky ex-guitar player. and speaks volumes for his talent that he still refered to as ex-UFO gutiarist and not just by his solo work.face it if it wasn't for UFO nobody would have heard of schenker.

COMMENT | Anyone listen to any of their recent studio albums?

They should have at least given Eddie Trunk the opportunity to fill in for Pete Way on bass during the recording process.

Eddie doesn't actually play bass but he could have used his monotone voice to hum the bass lines maybe.
