TOOL To Co-Headline LOLLAPALOOZA - Mar. 24, 2009
Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune reports that TOOL and THE KILLERS are expected to fill out the headlining slots for the fifth annual Lollapalooza festival, set to take place August 7-9 at Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois. Also scheduled to appear are the BEASTIE BOYS, DEPECHE MODE and JANE'S ADDICTION, plus KINGS OF LEON.

Brad Angle of Guitar World magazine recently conducted an interview with TOOL guitarist Adam Jones. When asked how the songwriting process for the band's new album was coming along, Jones replied, "It's been coming along... great! [laughs] No, we've been on hiatus. I'm writing and [bassist] Justin [Chancellor]'s been writing, but [frontman] Maynard [James Keenan] has been working on his wine. We've all just been taking some time away from each other, which has been nice. I've also been working on producing some comics."

TOOL has been on break from touring and writing since early 2008, following nearly two years of supporting their most recent studio album, 2006's "10,000 Days", which marked its first set of new material since 2001's "Lateralus".

In December, Maynard James Keenan revealed that he had been working with A PERFECT CIRCLE guitarist Billy Howerdel on new material for a possible new release. When asked about releasing the material or touring, he stated, "I doubt if we'll do any touring or, you know, do a full album," he said. "We might do some one-off shows here and there if the timing's right and it seems like a good vibe and a smart thing to do. But most likely we'll just kind of concentrate on, you know, one or two songs at a time, rather than investing all the time and money and effort into making those plastic discs that no one cares about anymore."

A new music model where noted bands like PC release a new single on the net every so often rather than albums. In other words, they clam up and quit releasing much new music at all.

This might happen, since they aren't selling any records anyway. We've been fucking them with illegal d/l'ing, now your favorite bands might begin to return the favor.

Just a thought.

They havnt put out anything 'good' since Aenima. Yeah I said it, im tired of Tool. Dont even fuckin believe we've been fucking them because Tool fans are loyal and bought that boring album 10000 days, which is a subpar album with today's standards, but then again, so was Lateralus, yup said that too. Face it Tool fans, the only way you can get your Tool fix is their CLASSIC CDs before the 00's and seeing them live, if they decide to tour that is. I use to be into Tool, but if they arnt going to put in any effort to make an album, why should we put in any effort towards buying it? Their days are and have been well over. How many can admit that?

I feel the same way! Although I do like Lateralus, I saw next to no progression from it to 10,000 Days. Plus the last two times I saw them, the shows I felt were subpar. Like they were trying to cover up the lack of decent new songs with a "trippy laser show". I've seen some bands put on more heart-felt shows with just a few stationary lights. Its a shame really, cause a lot of people still seem to hum on this bands nuts for everything they do.

These guys have never released anything good. I don't understand why they are so popular in the metal community. Put down the doobie and go buy some real metlal albums. And if your going to listen to this type of music, at least pick something somewhat better. I don't know, NEUROSIS!

Maynard just needs to stick to making his shitty wine and doing guys in the ass by the fire.

Point is that listening to tool is about as fun as a bag of dicks. If you are a true metalhead, then you will not buy a ticket to this show!

:(Tool Sucks

GWAR OWNS 2009!!

couldn't agree more! the only thing that got me into Lateralus at all was the playing it along with Fantasia 2000. That's the only redeeming value.

It should've remained alternative and grunge, however I wouldn't mind a complete Metal take over and no-more wimps and posers, just Leather and Metal Clad long hairs out for blood.

The Festival should have been reserved for only Alternative and Grunge only.
THe Festival has always had some element of Metal. I think the best example was it's first 1991 festival
Jane's Addiction, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Living Colour, Nine Inch Nails, Fishbone, Violent Femmes, Ice-T with Body Count, The Butthole Surfers, Rollins Band .

JA was hot on the charts, could live without Souxsie, Living Colour Metal elements but more Funk, Nine Inch Nails new heavy and dark, Fishbone definate elements of funk ,metal, ska, and punk. Violent Femmes, kinda fill the empty space, I never liked them much (The Dead Milkmen would have been a better pick) Bouty Count - Metal, Butthole Surfers they had elements of Metal and other shit, Rollins Band Alt. Punk, but Black Flag was better.

Metal should just take it completely over, since when have we ever apologized for anything.

Although it would be awesome for Tool to play, I don't know its it seems likely. Maynard is doing Puscifer stuff and wine now, and the band hasn't even gotten together to write yet. They played the first Coachella in 1999 as a one-off show a year after their previous tour and before they started writing Lateralus, so who know. Chicago is out of my price range, which sucks cuz I was to check the festival out one year.
