KISS To Play This Year's VOODOO EXPERIENCE?
- Mar. 31, 2009
According to WDSU.com, Voodoo Experience festival founder Steve Rehage has announced that he has booked many performers for this year's event — which will take place the weekend of Oct. 30-Nov. 1 in New Orleans, Louisiana — including the rock band KISS.
Voodoo is an economic driver for New Orleans and is the flagship event for the city between Labor Day and Thanksgiving.
WDSU first broke the story last week that City Park was booked for Voodoo's desired weekend. Organizers had moved the event — traditionally held in late October — to the last weekend of the month to coincide with Halloween, but prior bookings at the park made that impossible, park general manager Bob Becker said.
Festival founder Steve Rehage said he had agreed on the new dates with City Park officials, but Becker said several weddings were already booked that weekend.

Voodoo is always a cool festival with good bands. I'm hoping they book Faith No More this year! I'd flood city park with jizz!

I heard that they will be opening for Ace Frehley and several others such as Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Sheila Easton and Earth Wind and Fire.
I haven't personally verified the accuracy of this rumor yet but it certainly sounds plausible.

For those who have never attended New Orleans' Voodoo Experience, you have been missing out on one of the South's best kept secret. The promoters behind Voodoo, Rehage Entertainment, have always pulled in an array of talent to play at their annual event held in City Park. I have been fortunate enough to catch everyone from Nine Inch Nails to Man Man, Rage Against the Machine to Wyclef Jean, Wilco to Lil Wayne and The Flaming Lips to Duran Duran at the fall event. Thanks to the genius of Twitter, our friends at Voodoo Experience have been keeping us informed on what is going on with this years edition of the festival. A few weeks ago we learned that The Black Keys were the first confirmed band, but just a few hours ago they sent out a tweet announcing that ultimate Halloween band KISS will take top billing on October 31st. While I can't say I'm the biggest KISS fan, it would still be a treat to catch them live, especially on Halloween night at Voodoo. Knowing the reputation of past Voodoo Experiences, the rest of the bands taking the stages come October will be quite strong, enough to support such an odd-but-great choice for festival headliner.
We'll keep you informed of who will be playing the 11th annual Voodoo Experience in the coming weeks, but if you want to get up-to-the-minute updates for yourself, feel free to follow them on Twitter.

Ok, having read the recent posts about paul, gene, Kiss and the comments that followed (which are always the same) heres my two cents worth.. I did not like putting two other guys in ace and peters makeup either. I resented what Kiss had become because of continous release of products and rerelease of the same material while releasing no new material. I was annoyed that the band "retired" and then returned with a new lineup which after many years had still not added anything new to the legacy of the band as far as making its own music imprint, at least "officially" When they rerecorded the greatest hits for japan, I was curious, I listened, and didnt think it was too bad at all.To me, Tommy's work was almost identical to ace's original.I gained some respect for the guy even though it was still not his own stuff. I learned they were recording a new album.I am interested. My interest is increased by the fact that Tommy and eric are actually getting thier own songs on the album that they will sing on.IMO this will make this lineup official, even morseo than the 80's lineups because except for one or two exceptions they didnt get their own songs and we never got to get the full experience. I too wish they had thier own makeup, but then again, are we positive Kiss will even be in makeup for the new cd? (yeah, probably so, but never say never) Lastly, I think we should all make up our minds when the music comes out...isnt that what matters?!?!?
Maybe I should pick this to be my first trip to New Orleans...

It's about time this news hit Blabbermouth. NOLA.com leaked the info late last week about KISS headlining this festival on Halloween night. There was a bit of a public battle b/w the promoter and the park where the festival was held, brides had to cancel their wedding dates at the park and KISS and the festival will play on Halloween Weekend. Come one, Call ALL. I'm PSYCHED that we get the ultimate Halloween experience with KISS. If anyone is coming to town for the festival, I also recommend you make plans to go to the House of Shock!

after all Gene invented Voodoo and took New Orleans on their first tour of the US. Plus now he can talk about all the women who cancelled their weddings when they heard he was coming to town! :) I kid.
