BILL WARD On Possibility Of Full-Blown BLACK SABBATH Reunion: 'The Door Is Wide Open' - Apr. 2, 2009
Original BLACK SABBATH drummer Bill Ward will be interviewed by Ian Camfield of U.K.s Xfm Radio on Saturday, April 4 between 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m.

If you are in U.K., you can listen to the show by tuning in to 104.9 FM on digital radio, or you can stream the program via the Internet at www.xfm.co.uk.

39 years after its 1970 release, BLACK SABBATH's "Paranoid" album is being re-released as a three-CD deluxe edition, featuring the original album, a quadraphonic mix and a disc full of instrumental and alternate versions.

Ward tells Shropshire Star: "There was some spare tape left, so we said, 'Let's see if we can get another song and we all went down the pub which is the best place to work — well, it was then — and when we got back Tony [Iommi, guitar] had got a really, really good riff. Tony and Geezer [Butler, bass] and myself just sat in and just started playing and it didn't take long at all to have the song with all its parts pretty much done. I think within the afternoon it was taken care of. Ozzy [Osbourne, vocals] had his jamming lyrics, almost rough stuff, as we jammed down the first things. It probably [was] pretty much in the ballpark, his melody's there. We did that with quite a lot of our songs and we would change that around until we reached the final album version."

Ward insists the door is not shut on the idea of a full-blown reunion of BLACK SABBATH's original lineup.

"I have an open mind when it comes to SABBATH," he tells Shropshire Star. "We just haven't done anything for the last three years. But the door's wide open as far as BLACK SABBATH is concerned.

"Playing, doing anything with the original band, that's where I would like to be."

He adds: "Ozzy and I have maintained our relationship, and I've maintained my relationship with the other fellas pretty much all the way through. Nobody's far from each other.

"I saw Oz on his birthday. We went to Vegas and that's the last time I saw him. But I actually spoke to him about three or four days ago. He's doing fantastic, he's doing really well."

Don't bother- no one's really interested any longer in seeing Ozzy squak his way thru the same 8-song set at the end of Ozzfest and barely make it thru- Heaven & Hell is doing much better, thanks very much.

I'm sick of hearing "Ozzy sucks, Dio rules" and whatnot.
Sure the Dio albums were good, but neither Dio or Heaven and Hell would be anything without Sabbath.

Also, I don't really like the new H&H song. It's not terrible but it's nothing special. Corny lyrics too.
The only thing that Dio has over Ozzy is that he still sounds good live. I have seen H&H and they were great, but I'd still rather hear the original Sabbath tunes sang a little worse than watch Ronnie prance around the stage.

Well Bill, you guys ain't getting any younger, and playing drums for Sabbath won't get any easier.

I love love LOVE the original Sabbath lineup, but Ozzy is fried and has been for a while. What could they POSSIBLY accomplish at this point?

Iommi and Butler are still kicking loads of ass. I'd love to see Bill with Heaven and Hell, but I'm not sure if his drumming chops are up to the challenge.

Not a huge Appice fan, but he's a few years younger and can still power his way through the old songs.

Bill, I'm not so sure. He seemed a bit sluggish in 2005 with Sabbath.

... is the Bill Ward era.

Black Sabbath
Paranoid
Master Of Reality
Vol. 4
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Sabotage
Technical Ecstasy
Never Say Die
Heaven and Hell
Live at Last
Born Again

When Bill left the music changed. No offense to Vinny, he's a great solid rock drummer (perfect on Mob Rules) but no one else had that Sabbath Swing like Bill Ward. Cozy Powell was probably a better technical drummer and brought some style to the later-era but once again... nothing beats what Ward brought.

I love Bill. He's truly a class act, but....c'mon. Ozzy is 60. I know that doesn't mean shit these days, but, Ozzy was fried 12 years ago. I don't think another reunion would be pretty, or leave the best memories for such a legacy. They brough Sabbath to a new generation of music loves, who in turn will turn thier children onto Sabbath. They truly will live forever. Leave it at that. Hell, Dio is even starting to sould rough, but at least he can perform.

IDK guys, I'm kinda on the fence about this one. Hrm......

Sab at Ozzfest in Pittsburgh last time around was incredible. Ozzy just recovered from the flu and running (not old-man shuffling, RUNNING) around like a 20 year old. I know it's a few years ago now but...

And does anybody remember the song Scary Dream that they were playing a couple years earlier? Pretty vintage sounding Sab! There may still be a spark of life left in these old boys.

good news but have fun trying to derail Heaven and Hell. I can't see writing a new album with Dio and then immediately going back to Ozzy. The vibe would likely be all messed up. I just don't think it works that way.

Might have to agree with most everyone and say Ozzy doesn't sound so great these days, but I think a lot of it has to do with that damn effect he puts on his vocal now or at least it sounds that way. I think what would be cool with them though, and then I'd be on board is if they came out with a new album with the original line-up. That would be awesome. Oh well, I got to see them back in the late nineties with the Deftones and Pantera, one of the best concerts I've ever seen in my life. They sounded great then, so I don't think I'm gonna screw with that memory on the account of them playing all the same songs, over, and, over, and, over.....

All hail the mighty Black Sabbath. Whether they could still cut it or not is debatable. One thing is not. Sabbath single- handedly invented heavy metal. Their sound has not dated at all. The fact that legions of bands still try to copy their sound proves that. If not for Sabbath, there would be no blabbermouth. Black Sabbath is Ozzy, Tony, Geezer and Bill. Any line-up other than those 4 may be good, but it isn't Black Sabbath.

I love both eras, but the original Sabbath already reunited and toured several years ago - and Ozzy's voice SUCKS now.

The H & H version is the one we have now, and I couldn't be happier. Would still like to see Bill do some shows with them, but it ain't gonna happen.

I still won't forget the fact that Bill had to remove the 2 Ozzy tracks from the reissue of Ward One - I wonder who made that call?

Can anyone just admit that the only people who like the original Sabbath lineup are the ones with big balls that get laid all the time, and the ones that like Dio are on this board eating hot pockets out of their moms basement? I dont care if Dio's voice has aged better, I'd rather see Ozzy limp his saggy ass on stage any day over most of the cookie monster/emo "hair covering one eye" metal that is mostly covered on here. Heaven and Hell is musically sound, there is no denying that, but lets face facts, if you like Dio, you're probably either into dungeons and dragons, or again, you're a virgin still living with your mother.

Anybody remember that? Originally, Bill was in for that, before Vinny. Then he sent out some universal post whining and bitccing about something or other, then backed out.

I respect Bill but that was ridiculous. He pulled the same crap in 1980 only to then come back in late 82 with Dio out and Gillan in, then left again, then came back for the Donato 2-month era thing (he is in press photos), then pulled the similar crap how he came back in late 1994, ousting Rondinelli claming he was gonna be back 'for good', but lasted only 2 shows and then when Forbidden was being worked on, left again.

Sorry Bill...

Ronnie is worn (has been for some years now) but Ozzy is absolutely shot (has been for some years now). He was never a "singer", and he can´t even talk now. I used to love the guy and the band (old days) but his image and his voice are pathetic. Who can be so dumb to ask for that Sabbath (the one that all of us loved) again? Heaven and Hell is not even close to the Heaven and hell era of BS, but at least is listenable! They are coming to Argentina next month and of course I´ll be there!

the only real sabbath is with Ozzy. No denying Dio's always been a great singer, especially at this age today, but sabbath with dio sounds like well.....dio. Cheesy. I won't deny jamming to a few Dio and Rainbow songs, but Sabbath it ain't. That lineup never came close to the music created with Ozzy. I mean come on, I'd take any song off the albums through Sabotage over anything the dio lineup has done or will ever do. No contest.

I absolutely love the eight records BS had with the OZ, but what are we talking about. Heaven and hell was awesome, magic, outstanding, amazing, and I´m falling short. Bringing Ozzy back will be even worse than the pathetic image of Robert Plant now destroying all the music Led Zep created 35-40 years ago. Guys, we have to admit that time passes and none of our favourite singers of the past will do well now, least the madman.
