VOIVOD: New Album Details Revealed - Apr. 10, 2009
Canadian metal legends VOIVOD have set set "Infini" as the title of their final album, due in North America in early July via Relapse Records and Germany on June 12 through Nuclear Blast (the rest of Europe is expected to receive the CD on June 15).

Regarding the album title, VOIVOD drummer Michel "Away" Langevin said, "There were many titles thrown around, but I thought of 'Infini' and everybody liked it. Also, it looks great in sci-fi fonts."

The track listing for the CD is as follows:

01. God Phones
02. From The Cave
03. Earthache
04. Global Warning
05. A Room With A V.U.
06. Destroy After Reading
07. Treasure Chase
08. Krap Radio
09. In Orbit
10. Deathproof
11. Pyramidome
12. Morpheus
13. Volcano

Total running time: 57:57

The follow-up to 2006's "Katorz" will mark the second album in the band's 20-plus-year career that did not feature founding guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour working alongside his bandmembers in the studio.

Former METALLICA bassist Jason "Jasonic" Newsted is still very much part of the VOIVOD family and he did lay down all the bass tracks on the new record. However, he is unable to perform live at this point.

VOIVOD made its trimphant return to the stage on June 22, 2008 in front of 22,500 fans as part of the Heavy MTL festival at Parc Jean-Drapeau in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The group was joined by original bass player Jean-Yves Theriault ("Blacky") for the first time in 17 years. Dan Mongrain from the Quebec band MARTYR, a good friend of the band, played guitar. Songs from the early catalogue were the focus for the Heavy MTL set, including VOIVOD's cover of the PINK FLOYD classic "Astronomy Domine", which closed the show before the band took a bow center stage and shared a group hug.

Released in July 2006 on The End Records, "Katorz" was assembled, recorded and released by the band (drummer Michel "Away" Langevin, singer Denis "Snake" Belanger and former METALLICA bassist Jason "Jasonic" Newsted) and producer Glen Robinson using demos left by founding guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour, who succumbed to colon cancer in August 2005. The CD has sold more than 10,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

VOIVOD won the "Best Metal/Hardcore Album" award for "Katorz" in September 2007 at the annual Quebec Independent Music Awards (GAMIQ) in Montreal, Quebec.

Katorz was great, can't wait for this one. RIP Piggy, his riffs and playing style were truly unique.

Katorz was an awesome album and I can't wait for Infini to come out. It's hard to believe that Piggy has been dead for almost four long years, and please God, don't let his memory die. His riffs and playing style were always impressive.

One of the greatest bands ever for me...are they going to continue recording after this album? I was under the impression most of this was still comprised of left over Piggy riffs. I`m pleased Newsted isn`t touring...no disrespect to him but bringing Blacky back means we have 3/4 of the original line up on tour.

RIP Piggy - genius.

I'm open to new ideas and such, but to say that HIM is better than Voivod -- that's just plain wrong.

I love the Newsted-era Voivod -- especially the first eponymous titled release.
That one, in particular, has some of sickest riffs in metal since old Black Sabbath. Great songwriting, too. I think it's tremendously underrated.

This is a great band and as most of the others have implied, they're the real deal. I am very thankful that they're still kicking them out. RIP PIGGY!

Him are complete and utter GARBAGE, sorry.

Great news here. But Snake's voice does sound alittle shot and I hope Blacky comes back. Other then that no complaints here. They're keeping great music alive.

Jason has enough lingering issues that while he can do studio work, which would allow sitting and breaks, and he did nice work at the RRHOF weekend with Metallica, I guess he just does not feel that he would do himself or VOIVOD justice to do long sets night after night on tour.
Living with the aftermath of injuries can make you have to change the way you do things for quite some time.

No reason at all to post if you don't like the band ... go find a band to post on that you DO like. You are just being a prick. I also know that you are checking this thread all of the time just to see what your asshole-ness has accomplished. Great job, you succeeded in being a dick.

The BLOWER is back on Bass? FUCK YEAH!

While I still prefer their stuff prior to Snake leaving, this is a band that deserves their fans buying EVERY disc ... and there latter-period stuff is still quality.

Here is hoping that they carry on with a different name, since they appear to be retiring Voivod.

They keep talking about the re-issues and history DVD releases, I guess they`re all on the back burner till the new album and touring is done. Can`t wait for albums like Killing Technology and the amazing DImension Hatross to get the treatment.

...and yeah, Mr Fonz Bear, so what if you don`t like them? I prefer Voivod to all in your list apart from Maiden, Slayer and early Metallica and actively dislike 3 of those you mention. Again, so what? Just post in a thread you`re interested in.

Newsteds injury from wikipedia:

Injury

On October 23, 2006, Newsted was injured while attempting to catch a falling bass amp head. The accident resulted in a torn anterior labrum in his left shoulder and a rotator cuff and biceps tear in the right. He was scheduled for immediate surgery, and underwent a lengthy rehab process

Errr.....dude,where you been ? 99% of the singers in metal are "annoying"...lol Especially this generation !

Where's the next .....

Halford?
Dio?
Dickinson?
Tate?

Infini will not be released by The End Records anywhere.
Relapse will release it in the USA and Sonic Unyon will release it in Canada.
Sonic Unyon may not be a metal label, but they are longtime supporters and huge fans of Voivod. The band did their first ever reunion show with Snake in the 3rd floor venue of the Sonic Unyon building.
