ALICE IN CHAINS To Support KID ROCK In Detroit - May 10, 2009
ALICE IN CHAINS will support KID ROCK at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday, July 18. Also scheduled to appear is CYPRESS HILL. Tickets are on sale via Tickets.com and at the Comerica Park box office.

ALICE IN CHAINS has signed with Virgin Records, a division of EMI Music, for the release of the group's first new album in 14 years. According to a feature in the Los Angeles Times, the yet-to-be-titled disc will be out in mid-September. Production on the project was completed last month after more than a year of writing and recording. The Times writer, who got a preview of some of the material, called the album "recognizably thundering and gloomy," with an acoustic track called "Your Decision" followed by what the reporter described as "a seven-minute epic built on heavy slabs of guitar, drums and bass, something like BLACK SABBATH but far quicker."

The disc will mark the recording debut of vocalist William DuVall, who joined the group in 2006. Original singer Layne Staley died of a drug overdose in 2002 after nearly seven years in which the band was all but inactive.

Guitarist Jerry Cantrell, drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Inez regrouped in 2005 for a charity show before embarking on several tours in 2006 and 2007 with DuVall on the mic.

When asked about stepping into the shoes of Staley, DuVall told the Times, "It's a big thing. I've joined a group that has a strong identity and a strong legacy. Nobody's sitting here who wants to, in any way, disrespect or sully that legacy. You want to add to it."

All of ALICE IN CHAINS' previous albums and EPs were on Columbia Records.

Wow, that's lame.

I got free tickets for a Kid Rock show last year, and was doing fuck all that night, so I decided to go just for shits and giggles. To make a long story short, it was one of the wost concerts I have ever seen in my life, and I have been to a lot of shows.

Whoa...I just noticed that Cypress Hill is playing too. Wow, they must be getting a bunch of cash for this, or else I don't get why AIC would play on this Bill.

Kid Rock has the credibility of Vannila Ice. As much as I love AIC (Layne's band), there's no way I'd endure Kid Rock to see them. KR is proof positive that it takes no talent.

The fact that his music sucks does make him a bad guy. His popularity comes from the fact that he's a hero to his fan base of trailer park residents. People with incredibly low standards. Gong a dong a dang dang diggy diggy. Wow, now there's some great song writing. Must of kept him up all night.

T-BONER, you even find a way to talk about Axl in a story about Alice in Chains. You are truly an idiot of titanic proportions.

To the more intelligent readers, it's too bad about AIC. It feels like they died when Layne died. Jerry is awesome, but maybe he should retire the name AIC and work under another project.

I dunno, hasn't Kid Rock sold more records and received more play than Alice In Chains? I love the band, but I don't think they've gotten as popular as Kid Rock has. Plus the fact they were out of the spotlight for awhile, even before Layne's death.

Why wouldnt they care anymore?
It was just as much Jerry's band as it was Layne's. (if not more so)

Yes, Layne was a great singer, but can we get over this post-mortem lovefest already? He was weak, and singlehandedly ruined a good thing that he and his bandmates had going.
This is not the type of person you want in your band.

Good on 'em for keeping it going.

why are you all surprised? Just look at the current AIC website - it's all about who kisses more ass, from the price of the merch to the web contents. I don't know if it's the AIC boys or everyone around them, but they've had that rock-star mentality that Kid Rock can relate to. I'm more surprised to see cypress hill on the bill.

Don't get me wrong though, AIC is still my favorite band. That'll never change. I'm a long time fan and I am loyal to the band, just in my own ways.

I dont think Jerry cares what he does, he supported Nickleback when he was solo, he couldnt cut it solo so hes going to flog the AIC name so he can get a little cash and limelight.

If Layne was alive no way this would happen shit they would be headlining, but hes not I know but it just should show the people that believe it was Cantrells band that it was LAYNE that made me and others love AIC.

F**kin shamefull

But let me address this "They shouldn't be on the same BILL as Kid Rock" stuff . . . . .

I am what you'd call a "purist" as in, I like the Police because of what each guy brought to the band . . . same with Van Halen, same with SLAYER, same with Jane's Addiction, same with Black Sabbath, same with Judas Priest, same with AC/DC, same with just about all the big names we discuss on Blabbermouth.

The fucking IGNORNACE I constantly see on display is the ignorance that "if you like Kid Rock, you must HATE Slayer" or even "if you like Motley Crue, you're supposed to hate Metallica" or even "if you listen to the new Guns N Roses, then SURELY you are disowning Appetite for Destruction" or "Poison's gay" or "Kiss sucks without Ace Frehely and Peter Criss" and on and on and fucking ON!!!!

People. Wake the fuck up. These are bands with real human beings in them. I love Layne Staley as much as anybody that's ever read a word on this fucking website but he is GONE. He died from using heroin. His talent and his gifts were unmistakable but he is gone.

There are few bands that I regret never seeing live more than Alice In Chains . . . I don't know how it never happened, but it just never did and I've really been bummed about it, especially since Layne passed on.

I will ABSOLUTELY DEFINITELY go see Jerry Cantrell and his bandmates when they come anywhere within a 4 hour one-way car ride to play a show because I really just wanna see them. It's like visiting with old friends that I just happened to have never actually met.

I was waiting to see Slayer play about 4 years ago in Norfolk, VA and "Bleed The Freak" was played over the PA. I was standing next to some guy that was also just having a beer, a guy I'd never met. We both were just listening to this incredible song play over the great sounding PA and once it was over, he looked at me and said "That's one of the best fucking songs I have ever heard" . . . and he tapped his bottle to mine . . . I said "Absolutely".

That's rare folks . . . . and THAT is what music is all about.

Rest in Peace Layne Staley and Long Live Alice In Chains.

AIC should not be opening up for Kid Rock. They're above that and as far as people saying it was "Layne's band", as great of a singer he was for them its really Cantrell's band. He wrote a majority of the songs. Bad choice for them though to open up for Kid Rock.

I think Kid Rock has some talent, but why does he write such awful songs? Sampling other people's music is something that no-name rap artists do, Kid Rock is an established music artist so why does he have to re-record Skynyrd songs?

I give him credit, he's gotta be making loads of cash since his music's getting played on rock, alternative, and country stations, but it's still garbage to me.

the boys getting out and just playing. I can't wait to hear the new stuff!!! As far as why would AIC and Cypress Hill be on the same bill??? Does anyone remember the movie "Last Action Hero"? Alice and Cypress Hill appeared on that soundtrack together. I am sure that they ran into each other at some movie premier or some movie related function...at least that is a possibility. As far as Kid Rock...well he is a huge fan of all kinds of music so I am sure he is a huge AIC fan. Also, as much as I hate to admit it...Kid Rock has been more relevant in recent years musically than AIC so its a good move by AIC managment to get them the exposure. This just AIC is re-launching into orbit and they will be out on there own again soon!

It's amazing. Why don't you let us know what your favorite ABBA album is too?? What do you think about slurpees?? Do you have a favorite flavor??? What's your favorite color man??? C'mon!!! Share.

I've gotta find something else to do. This is a horrible way to spend my minutes on this planet. It's depressing.
