VAN HALEN To Tour In 2010? - Sep. 9, 2009
According to Pollstar.com, Ticketmaster Entertainment CEO Irving Azoff announced during the 2009 Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference earlier today (Wednesday, September 9) that VAN HALEN will hit the road in 2010. No further details were made available.

The Wall Street Journal recently reported that VAN HALEN made an extra one million dollars in the fall of 2007 when as many as 500 of the best seats at around 20 concerts on the band's reunion tour were pulled from Ticketmaster and sold through scalpers. The scalpers reportedly kept about 30 percent of the jacked-up ticket prices for themselves, while the remaining 70 percent was divided between the band, their representatives and Ticketmaster itself.

The scam was part of a Ticketmaster initiative, codenamed "Project Showtime," which was designed to get a piece of the action from the scalpers, who often re-sell tickets for hundreds or thousands of dollars more than their face value. The move was part of plan to compete with a new ticketing business started by Live Nation, by offering to share profits from the scalpers with the artists and promoters.

VAN HALEN's 2007-2008 tour, the first with David Lee Roth on the mic in nearly a quarter century, grossed more than $90 million.

At each of the 20 shows, the best seats were taken directly out of the Ticketmaster system and passed directly to private dealers and scalpers.

The project eventually fell apart, according to the Journal, because of distrust among the participants, although a number of VAN HALEN tickets were sold through the scalpers.

The scam was said to be the brainchild of VAN HALEN manager Irving Azoff, who also now serves as Ticketmaster's CEO. Azoff is also behind the scheme to merge Ticketmaster with Live Nation, which is under review by the Justice Department. Critics and members of Congress have said that the proposed merger would create a monopoly over almost all aspects of the music business.

Thats awesome that Van Halen, Ticketmaster and those classy scalpers were able to forge an alliance in order to soak the working class out of even more money, hopefully I can get a floor seat for a thousand bucks this year

I agree with you man...

It was a good show to see, but it hurt. I had to use my American Express points to get the price for my seat down $60-$70.

They'll try and get ridiculous money when touring in 10' but I hope people don't go for it this time.

If this were, say, 15 years ago, I would be happier than shit to hear this news. Now, I could give a shit. I know the tickets I paid for in 2007 were well over-priced, and after reading about all the secret mergers with scalpers, it was not about the fans anyway.

Hey Eddie,

If you tour again without a new album, it is an open admission that you are a washed up hack with nothing new to offer.

get back in the studio.

This is probably some kind of early sign that maybe we will see some new Van Halen material (finally), by late this year, early next year and maybe the new album will be out by summer 2010.

just in time for the new tour...can't wait.

although, Eddie's made his many mistakes, you can't deny the revolutionary music he's made, especially with Diamond Dave.

Van Halen is hard at work....

.... pulling Michael Anthony's backing vocals off the original recordings so they can put them on a track for Wolfie to lip-sync to on the next tour!

Another cash grab tour for a bunch of has-beens. Running With the Devil...errr, I mean Irving Azoff. I'm sure Wolfie's cut of the cake (while in reality is probably the whole fucking thing with triple icing) is only a fraction of what Mike Anthony would have made. Money is the only reason he wasn't invited back to the band. It's all about bottom line with these guys.

I saw them when they didn't suck and actually put good albums out (aka Eddie hadn't lost his creativity). Bet $100 they don't tour behind a new album of new material. Pass.

That is a hilarious post and I tend to agree BUT...What about Wolfie? What about wanting in the family business...What about blood being thicker than water? Wolfie plays bass, his name is Van Halen, couldn't people say Eddie was a piece of shit for NOT letting him play with his father and uncle?

I don't want to see them tour again until there is some new music. Jesus, Ed's been promising it forever and continues "tweeting" about jamming in the studio giving these vague hints that they may or may not be getting down to business. If they do another cash grab tour without releasing a new album, the last shred of faith I have in this band will be gone.

And screw them for participating in this scam to profit from jacking up ticket prices. That is not how you give love back to your fans, no matter how you slice it.

Michael Anthony was already taking a cut in pay during the last VH Tour with Hagar (05?). Eddie is just a spiteful little man. Sammy had to stick up for Mike even in the beginning with VH. For those of you who actually believe Wolfie chose the set list--get real! Ed just said that to make it seem his son had a bigger impact on the band. Its all up to Ed and Dave what they will and will not (or can not) play.

you weren't listening in the 70's & early 80's then, they were stellar live. Eddie played the songs as recorded and with more power, with some branching out & jamming a bit too. They gave energy like most bands couldn't...Sabbath fired them from their tour together because they were being upstaged night after night. Nug said he'd watch them each night they were so good.

Today, tired act. Saw them in 2007, while its just one man's opinion, I left the arena let down. I let my emotions be the gadge, I never once got fired up the whole show. At times felt embarrased for them, for instance, piping in Keyboards on Jump & I'll wait. Roth walked the stage like he was sitting on a pole, all tight a$$ed...never once nailing the trade mark whistle stop scream, never attempted it....Ed had 1/3 of the energy, and was sloppy.

This was once a barnstorming, put your daughters in the cellar, gather around the bon fire in the parking lot, drive 100 miles to see band. That is a memory...they are all old(well not Wolf), CF included. Its over, savor the memorys. Any further tours are a shell of the past, each night hoping to eech one moment you can hold on to.

Yeah you know who, saying that the 07-08 tour made more money than the 04-05 tour, can go jump in a lake!!!
The proof is in the pudding, the last tour jacked up the prices so high, of course $93 Million is going to look better then $55 Million, when you SCAM your fans. YOu can have Classic Van Halen with out Michael Anthony over Van Hagar with Michael Anthony.
