ALICE IN CHAINS Interviewed By Norway's 'Lydverket'; Video Available - Nov. 5, 2009
Kristin Winsents of the Norwegian broadcaster NRK's weekly pop music show "Lydverket" recently travelled to Seattle to interview ALICE IN CHAINS, NIRVANA "Bleach" producer Jack Endino and GRAND ARCHIVES, among others, for a feature story on the grunge scene (looking back on its rise in the early '90s as well as examining why PEARL JAM and ALICE IN CHAINS are experiencing a huge resurgence in popularity in 2009). Her unedited chat with ALICE IN CHAINS can now be viewed below.

As previously reported, "Project Runway" season three model Amanda Fields is featured in the new video from ALICE IN CHAINS, "Your Decision", which was recently filmed in a "giant house between Santa Monica and Malibu off the Pacific Coast Highway." The clip is being directed by Stephen Schuster, who previously worked with ALICE IN CHAINS on the "A Looking In View" video.

To coincide with the band's European tour, ALICE IN CHAINS will release the "Your Decision" single on November 16 in the U.K.

"Your Decision" is the second single to be lifted from band's first all-new album in 14 years, titled "Black Gives Way To Blue", which sold 126,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 5 on The Billboard 200 chart (behind latest albums from PARAMORE, MARIAH CAREY, BARBRA STREISAND and BREAKING BENJAMIN).

ALICE IN CHAINS recruited pop legend Elton John to contribute piano to the CD's title track, which is written in tribute to Staley.

Singer William DuVall had played with his own group, COMES WITH THE FALL, as well as in Jerry Cantrell's solo band, before joining up with ALICE IN CHAINS in 2006.

"Black Gives Way to Blue" was recorded with producer Nick Raskulinecz (FOO FIGHTERS, RUSH) at the Northridge, California studio of FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl.

New album is one of the years best hands down.

I've always been a fan of Chains and I'm no hater, but I have to say I'm disappointed witht he album. 2 or 3 decent tunes and a shit ton of lazy filler. That's all it is.

I'm also curious as to their recent performance on Jimmy Fallon. Duvall was kept stage left singing back up while Cantrell took center stage and handled lead vox. I thought Duvall was hired in as lead. The performance wasn't thsat great either. I hope they pull it together for the next album.

Black Gives Way to Blue is so far the best record I've heard all year, hands down. Not to say there aren't some other good releases, but AIC really outdid themseleves with this one. I saw them live a couple of weeks ago and man were they incredible. Of the hundreds of shows I've seen since 1980, that was easily in the top 10, maybe top 5 (hard to beat the original Sabbath lineup reunion or Metallica with Cliff in a small theater).

Other top records of the year so far: Shrinebuilder (np), Fu Manchu Signs of Infinite Power, The 11th Hour's new one, Heaven & Hell the Devil You Know and Wo Fat 's latest Psychedelonaut.

You really need to listen to it more than just a casual sit down. Spend time with it, get to know the songs. My first listen, I thought, well maybe there are 4-5 filler songs on it. Those songs are now some of my favorites. There are deep, complex, and dark but with a spark of hope. Lesson Learned is amazing as a simple but effective acoustic number with just kick ass lyrics, Take her Out and Private Hell were the main ones I thought were filler, but listen closely. I didn't like the first song either, but its fantastic as well. I guess I like bands that challenge the listener a bit and I like the album format still where each song takes the listener through a jounrey of highs, lows, darkness, and light.

First off, I am sick of listening/watching/reading the same damn interview. Holy Shit!!!!! I can't even begin to imagine how the boys feel. I have a new found respect for them.

2ndly, William was not hired to be the lead singer. He was not hired to replace Layne. A Sean has said, William is the newest member of Alice In Chains. I saw Comes WIth A Fall open for Jerry and even tho it wasn't my kind of music, I remember thinking that William could really sing and play some guitar. He's actually a very good guitarist. During Jerry's show, WIlliam would sing a couple old Alice In Chains songs and that's when I first thought "damn, he pulls this off well".

3rd and finally, the new Alice In Chains CD is fantastic!!!! I love the fact that after I listen to it, I want more William vocals. Jerry has always been a master at taking simple riffs and making them sound very complex. His vocals have always been a huge part of Alice In Chains. Those who claim this is nothing more than a Jerry solo cd are out of their minds. All it took was 1 listen to Acid Bubble to make me realize just how sad bands such as Creed and Godsmack are... try all you want to sound like Alice In Chains... not gonna happen. Acid Bubble is exactly why today's music needs Alice In Chains.
