NUNO BETTENCOURT And JASON SEGEL Make Video For 'How I Met Your Mother'
- Oct. 12, 2009
Nuno Bettencourt, guitarist for the band EXTREME, and actor Jason Segel star in a music video for the CBS sitcom "How I Met Your Mother".
Known for their love affair with "songs that are awesome," the makers of "How I Met Your Mother" have re-created the famous EXTREME video "More Than Words". Other cast members — including Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders, Alyson Hannigan and Josh Radnor — also appear in the video.
Nuno explained the odd feeling it gave him filming a video that felt very similar to one he's already made. "It's bizarre looking up and seeing Jason," he stated with a laugh. "It's pretty interesting." However, he added, "It's kind of cool, because it's not the song. It's a completely different song in the sense of lyrics and everything, so that makes it interesting."
Jason Segel said that performing with Bettencourt was "amazing. I feel like I have a new soulmate. We might even try to do a little collaboration at some point, so that would be a real honor."
Associate producer Carl MacLaren explains that the idea is that "the video doesn't live in the world of the show, like most of our websites do. The video lives in the world of Marshall's brain. This, in a sense, is like the ultimate version of the song and we're doing another website within the show. You'll see a piece of the website in the episode, and the great thing is people are going to assume that's what they're going to see when they go to the URL — and instead, it's going to be this high-concept video starring Nuno Bettencourt and basically a reenactment of the 'More than Words' video."
You can view the video below.
Bettencourt is currently the guitarist for the Grammy-nominated band EXTREME, which has released five albums plus a greatest hits set, selling over 10 million records worldwide. Their song "More Than Words" (from EXTREME's 1990 multi-platinum album "Extreme II: Pornograffitti") topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The track was also recently featured in hit movies "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" and "The Love Guru".

SEBASTIAN BACH Says His New Guitarist 'Has What It Takes To Take On The World Of Rock 'N' Roll'
- Oct. 12, 2009
Former SKID ROW frontman Sebastian Bach has issued the following update:
"First, let me say thank you so much to all the musicians who sent in demo packages and emailed mp3's and pictures, thanks so much.
"It's really hard for me to replace band members after spending years on the road with the same guys. I don't look forward to it, but I am very lucky to have so many guitar and bass players who want to jam . I have every one of your packages and emails saved in case I gotta go through this again!
"After searching for 'my Randy Rhoads' for the last couple of decades, I am very excited to introduce to you a guitar player whom I feel has what it takes to take on the world of rock n' roll and beyond...
"Ladies and gentlemen, please put your hands together for... Mr. Nick Sterling!
"After flipping through a recent issue of Guitar World magazine (good place to find guitar players, it turns out!), I saw an ad for an amplifier that featured Nick Sterling. After I found Nick's websites, I could not believe how talented this guy was... He sings, plays all guitars and basses, and all the drums on his recordings! Now that's something I know very few people are capable of. His songs rock, he plays great... I was very interested in making some music with this dude. I contacted him through his MySpace page, and soon we were emailing song ideas back and forth.
"Now, a month or two after our initial contact, I am proud to say we currently have two demo songs recorded, and are about to start on our third.
"Nick is younger than I am. The reason I dig his tunes is that, to me, rock n' roll is all about the spirit of the 'youth gone wild,' and honestly, some musicians, as they get older, tend to 'write older.' I am simply far too in love with rock n' roll, still, to change my 'musical direction' right now. I just want to keep making albums that have tons of energy, are melodic, cool, groovin' and fit into the catalog of what I have put out so far. Nick's songs and vibe fit perfectly alongside such tracks as 'Youth Gone Wild', '18 & Life', etc.
"Now that we have got some songs together, it's time to get back out on the road!
"We have been asked to play in Helsinki Finland with the legendary Alice Cooper on December 11! I am so very excited to rock again! I love Alice and I can't wait to do a show with the man. We will also be headlining Turku, Finland December 12 at Caribia and Tampere, Finland December 13 at Pakkahoune. We are trying to finalize a gig on Dec. 8 or 9 in Budapest, Hungary. There will possibly be more gigs as well! We will do all the classic SKID ROW tunes you know and love, along with 'Angel Down' tracks and some brand new ones you have never heard before!
"This will be Nick's first-ever trip to Europe, so hey, give him a warm welcome, he is gonna need it coming from Arizona to Finland in December! Brrrr!!
"Joining us on drums and bass are Bobby Jarzombek and Rob DeLuca.
"It's great to have players who stick with me, through it all, in this crazy business. Such dedicated and professional players as Bobby and Rob are hard to come by and I consider myself fortunate to share stages around the world with these cats, going on five years now.
"On second guitar will be either Johnny Chromatic or Charlie Bellmore.
"I have a bunch of new music with Charlie Bellmore that I am dying for you all to hear, but Johnny has done the set hundreds of times, so it might be better to have just one new guitar player live instead of two. But Johnny is very busy with his band down in Florida, so I am still undecided on who take to Finland on second guitar. Both Johnny and Charlie shred like cheese graters, so don't worry, our band will kick your ass, Finland! Get ready!
"As soon as we get back from Europe, it's full speed ahead on the new CD! We have at least 12 songs ready to record and we are not stopping the writing process. We plan on starting to record the next record as soon as we can. Also look out for the first-ever Sebastian Bach Blu-ray coming your way soon (also to be released on DVD)! Details [as soon as possible]!"

ROB ZOMBIE Says New Album Is 'A Great Follow-Up' To Original 'Hellbilly Deluxe'
- Oct. 12, 2009
Rob Zombie's fourth solo studio album, "Hellbilly Deluxe 2: Noble Jackals, Penny Dreadfuls and the Systematic Dehumanization of Cool", will be released on November 17 via Geffen Records. "Hellbilly Deluxe" was the name of Zombie's first and most successful solo outing, issued back in 1998.
"The plan was always to make this kind of like the sequel to 'Hellbilly Deluxe', but I didn't want to force it," Zombie tells AOL's Noisecreep. "I always figure records dictate their own journey. You might say, 'Oh, we're going to write the heaviest thing ever.' But you get in there and, you know, you might write things that aren't heavy that are great, so you kind of go with it. But this one seems like a great follow-up to that record."
"The record's really varied, just like the first one," Zombie says of the new CD. "There are huge, epic songs with 100-piece orchestras. And then there's something like 'What,' which is just the four of us in a garage literally playing live together and making a big noise."
"Hellbilly Deluxe 2" track listing:
01. Jesus Frankenstein 02. Sick Bubblegum 03. What? 04. Mars Needs Women 05. Werewolf, Baby! 06. Virgin Witch 07. Death and Destiny Inside The Dream Factory 08. Burn 09. Cease to Exist 10. Werewolf Women of the SS 11. The Man Who Laughs
"Sick Bubblegum" and "What?" are available for streaming in the YouTube clips below.
Rob Zombie will kick off his upcoming North American tour on October 29 in Phoenix, Arizona, according to a press release. He will hit the road with the same band that toured behind his 2006 CD, "Educated Horses", consisting of guitarist John 5, bassist Piggy D. and drummer Tommy Clufetos. Although Zombie is also busy these days directing movies, he told The Pulse of Radio he can always count on his current bandmates to return. "Whenever I'm making a movie they go off and do whatever they want, but they're all part of this band," he said. "We just did all of our photos for the tour and stuff. It's the same band, it's just that I know those guys get itchy to play."

DEFIANCE: Another New Song Available For Streaming
- Oct. 12, 2009
A new DEFIANCE song, "Desert Sands", is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. The track comes off the reunited Oakland, California thrashers' new album, "The Prophecy", which is scheduled for release on October 19 via Candlelight Records. The first collection of new music from DEFIANCE in over 15 years was recorded at Trident Studios and Greendot Studios in East Bay, California.
According to the band, "Desert Sands" is "a thrasher about the political and social issues that are going on with regards to the U.S. wars, and the horror they create. This song is highlighted by an intense guitar dual between Jim Adams and Glen Alvelais. The two go back and forth in what could only be described as an insane showcase of the two's six-string talents."
An e-card for "The Prophecy" can be accessed at this location.
The track listing for the album is as follows:
01. Prion 02. The Prophecy 03. Bastard Son 04. The War Inside 05. Fuel The Fire 06. Eschaton 07. Sloth 08. Desert Sands 09. Dissolving Around You 10. Asthmaphere 11. Eyes Of The Front
The cover artwork by Travis Smith (OPETH, NEVERMORE) of Seempieces can be viewed below (courtesy of HeavyLaw.com).
Along with the new album, DEFIANCE is also working on putting together a DVD, tentatively titled "Decade(s) of Defiance", that will chronicle the band's entire career from 1985 to the present.
Part of the so-called "second wave" of Bay Area thrash (which also included the likes of FORBIDDEN, VIO-LENCE, DEATH ANGEL, and TESTAMENT), DEFIANCE officially disbanded in 1993 after the departure of vocalist Steev Esquivel (who would go on to form SKINLAB, and later RE:IGNITION), while the remaining members, with the addition of vocalist Dave Godfrey White (HEATHEN), formed INNER THRESHOLD, which would also eventually disband.
In 2005, rumors of a reformed DEFIANCE sent waves of interest through the burgeoning thrash metal community until it was finally confirmed that the band had in fact reunited and were at work on their first new material in over a decade.
Metal Mind Productions released "Insomnia", a three-CD digipack containing remastered versions of the following DEFIANCE albums: 1989's "Product of Society", 1990's "Void Terra Firma", and 1992's "Beyond Recognition". This special collector's edition includes classic material from Roadrunner Records' archives, digitally remastered using 24-bit technology and released on golden discs. The three-CD digipack edition is limited to a hand-numbered 2,000 copies and contains a 28-page booklet with lyrics to all songs, full story of the band, and over 20 bonus tracks taken from the band's archives.

- Oct. 12, 2009
Video footage of FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's October 8, 2009 headlining appearance at the House Of Blues in Boston, Massachusetts can be viewed below (courtesy of "TripKore").
"War Is The Answer" — the sophomore album from FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH — sold 44,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 7 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD follows up FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's 2007 debut, "The Way Of The Fist", which has sold more than 350,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
"War Is The Answer" was released in the U.S. on September 22 via Prospect Park Records. The CD was produced by the band and Kevin Churko (OZZY OSBOURNE, IN THIS MOMENT), and was mixed by Randy Staub (METALLICA, MÖTLEY CRÜE, NICKELBACK). According to a press release, "the record evolves the band's already mature sound, ranging from the undeniable melodies in 'Hard to See' to the brutally nihilistic 'Burn It Down' — destined to please fans both new and old."
Guitarist Zoltan Bathory recently stated about the new CD, "In terms of the overall style, I would say that we've continued the journey we started on the first album, so there's a healthy balance of melody and aggression, and as always we concentrated on writing strong metal songs in the traditional sense. There's some epic moments on the record, and there's some straight-up home-wreckers, too. All I can say is, those who liked our first album are going to LOVE this one!"
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH kicked off "The Shock And Roar Tour" on September 22 in San Francisco. Joining them on the bill are SHADOWS FALL, OTEP and 2 CENTS.

MEGADETH's DAVE MUSTAINE: Why I Have A Problem Playing 'The Conjuring' Today
- Oct. 12, 2009
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine recently spoke to AOL's Noisecreep about his upcoming autobiography, "Hello Me... Meet The Real Me", which is due next year via HarperCollins. The book was co-written by New York Times journalist Joe Layden who also authored "The Last Great Fight" about what is considered by many to be the biggest upset in the history of boxing: James "Buster" Douglas' tenth-round knockout win over Mike Tyson in 1990.
"It's easy to hate somebody that you don't like," he tells Noisecreep. "But you know what? People don't know who I am. Who they think I am is not really who I am, because they guy that they've continued to vilify in the press, that guy's been gone a long time. And I think anyone who reads this book will see that."
According to Mustaine, part of the book reveals how he practiced black magic as a teenager, and how the experience — which inspired the 1986 song "The Conjuring" — affected his life for years after.
"I put two hexes on people, and they both worked and the result was just what I was asking for," he explains. "Now, it took forever to get that Satanic depression off of me because it's just like playing with a Ouija board. You open the doorway to the dark side, and spirits come through. It took almost 20 years to get rid of that Satanic depression. I did it when I was 15, and I don't think I got free of it until I was in my mid-30s.You ask yourself, 'How is it possible that this is happening to me?' Well, because you flirted with the devil and you put a hex on somebody and you put another hex on somebody, and, well, you owe him. And that's why I have a problem playing 'The Conjuring' today."
Norway's Lydverket blog conducted an interview with Mustaine on August 7, 2009 at the Langham Hotel in London, England. The first clip from the chat, in which he discusses his upcoming autobiography, can be viewed below.

STRYPER Frontman Has Found Love Again — A Gift From God
- Oct. 12, 2009
STRYPER singer Michael Sweet — whose wife Kyle Rae Sweet passed away on March 5, 2009 after a two-year battle with ovarian cancer — has announced that he is engaged to be married to a woman named Lisa.
In a lengthy letter on his official web site, he writes, "Throughout the past twenty six years, I've always had a deep faith in God. I decided to commit my life to Him, and to honor and glorify Him in all that I do. There have been ups and downs, good times and bad times, and it hasn't always been an easy road, especially the past two years.
"When Kyle was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer, our family began grieving from that moment on. Although we tried to stay positive and faithful, there were many times that we questioned God and cried out 'why,' feeling as though it was some kind of nightmare that we couldn't wake from. I tried desperately to be strong and to be an example to my family and my friends and to be strong for Kyle, Michael [Sweet's son] and Ellena [Sweet's daughter].
"Miraculously, by the strength and grace that only God can give, I was able to keep it together and not fall completely apart. God has always shown me that no matter how hard it gets or how painful it can be, He is always in control and He has a plan for my life.
"I know this may come as a surprise to some of you, but I had to make a decision to live my life and move forward in it. I could have very easily drawn the shades and hidden from the world. Instead, God brought someone so perfect for me at the perfect time. I know Kyle would want me to be happy just as I would have wanted her to be, if it had been me who was called home. I hope and pray that all of you reading this can understand.
"It's been a witness for me to see how accepting and supportive Mikey and Lena have been. I'm amazed at how much grace they both possess and how much of an example of Christ they are and continue to be. Kyle essentially raised and educated Michael and Ellena and because of her sacrifice to do so and her gift of teaching, they are without question, the most incredibly smart and loving kids and I love them more than words can describe! I'm so proud to be their father.....
"As I mentioned in my last update, 'A New Chapter In My Life' (click here to read), I've been blessed with the opportunity to love again, unconditionally, without restraints, and to be loved in return the very same way.
"Although the past few years have been excruciatingly painful and trying, I feel as though I've been given a second chance at true love and to live life once again as it should be lived — happy, joyful and at peace. Most people are blessed in one lifetime with true love and I've been blessed twice and I continue to stand in awe of God's favor and God's hand upon my life.
"When you find someone that you can share your heart, mind and soul with and you long to share the rest of your life with, it cannot be planned or arranged, or forced in any way. It just happens — destiny unfolding right before your eyes and as a very dear friend of mine so recently said, 'God is playing Connect the Dots, and all the dots are connecting.'
"Lisa is a unique person in the sense that she has the ability to love and accept everyone, unconditionally, and without judgment. She is kind and caring and always puts the needs and feelings of others before her own. She reminds me constantly of why I'm here and what I'm here to do — to be a light and an encouragement to those around me and those I come in contact with.
"I have to admit that it's been easy at times for me to lose sight of what I do and to take this ministry that God has loaned to me for granted. Lisa keeps me grounded and always helps me to come back to the reality and importance of what I do. She is a gift from God and I need her in my life.
"I recently proposed to Lisa and she changed my life with one simple word — yes!
"I am pleased to announce the news of our engagement and our commitment to each other through matrimony. She is an angel and a Godsend and I look forward to a lifetime together.
"I've always been open about my life and I wanted to share this news with all of you. You have always been there for my family and I want all of you to know how much I appreciate that!
"Thank you for your support, your faith in prayer and your encouragement over the years. It will never be forgotten or taken for granted."

AEROSMITH Guitarist Says A Certain Bandmember Has Been Taking Fans For Granted
- Oct. 12, 2009
David J. Prince of Billboard.com recently conducted an interview with AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry. Watch the chat below.
When asked about the current status of AEROSMITH, Perry stated, "The thing that bothers me the most is how it affects the fans. The only reason you're there is because of the fans. You owe them a lot, and when you start taking them for granted, it's just wrong. I think that a lot of what happened with AEROSMITH over the last two or three years has been a case of that. And I'm not talking about everybody in the band. I think at this point the four band members are willing to not play for a while until the fifth member gets together and decides to come and join us again."
Perry released his new solo album, "Have Guitar, Will Travel", on October 6. The first single from the project is "We've Got A Long Way To Go". Perry told The Pulse of Radio that he began putting together the solo project after work on the next AEROSMITH record was delayed. "The album has kind of a vibe to it, 'cause it was written and recorded in this burst of energy," he said. "I mean, I was so ready to do the AEROSMITH record, I just had to cut loose. I had to have an outlet. I mean, I'm always writing, I'm always in the studio anyway, I just didn't think it was gonna be this soon."
Perry and his touring band, the JOE PERRY PROJECT, played at the Viper Room in Hollywood on October 6 to celebrate the album's release, with more dates on the way.
The guitarist recently told Billboard.com's Daily Noise how his project differs from a traditional AEROSMITH album. He said, "The biggest difference would be the lyrics but even sound-wise, I think it's different."
Vocals on the disc are handled by Perry and an unknown German singer named Hagen, who was found on YouTube by Perry's wife Billie.

DEREK SHERINIAN Featured On RELOCATOR Debut
- Oct. 12, 2009
Influenced by both modern and classic artists like UK, PLANET X, RUSH and ALLAN HOLDSWORTH, RELOCATOR have developed their own purely instrumental style. After a transformation from an unstable "full" local band into an international project, RELOCATOR are finally about to deliver their long-overdue first album that is as uncompromising in its progressive approach as it is melodic and accessible.
Adding his distinctive keyboard style to the RELOCATOR debut is special guest star Derek Sherinian. Derek played with rock legends KISS and ALICE COOPER even before really stepping into the spotlight during his four years with progressive metal titans DREAM THEATER. More recently he has become known for a string of exciting solo albums, each featuring some of the world's most famous guitarists, and for his live and studio work with Billy Idol and Yngwie Malmsteen.
Instead of just contributing a few guest solos, Derek Sherinian has recorded all keyboard parts for the album. Derek's experience with the self-proclaimed "sickest instrumental band in the world," PLANET X, makes his style a perfect fit for the music. "We are thrilled to have Derek's amazing array of modern keyboard sounds featured on our album!", says guitarist and main composer Stefan Artwin. "The original 2008 album that never got finished would have featured just a few Derek Sherinian solos over tracks with MIDI keys and mostly synth bass. So when we decided to re-approach the material, getting Derek involved more extensively was one of the steps we took to take the music to a new level."
Another step was to enlist the talents of Dutch drummer Frank Tinge from the band SUPERBUG. "We wanted someone who could not only play this kind of challenging music with its twists and turns, but who would also show some real enthusiasm for our musical style," says bassist Michael Pruchnicki. "Frank was my first idea and he turned out to be the perfect choice!"
Self-described "rock violinist" Bartek Strycharski became the last addition to the project. "With Frank and Derek on board the music became heavier, so we wanted to have some acoustic elements as a balance to all the spacey progressive parts", Pruchnicki explains. "One idea was to have Frank play some African percussion on one track. The other was to add Bartek's electric violin as another expressive instrumental voice. He's one of the most talented and natural musicians I have ever met and his playing really added a new dimension to our music."
The self-titled RELOCATOR debut will be available directly from the band as CD or digital download, other distribution channels will be announced soon.
A sample medley from the upcoming album can be streamed using the audio player below.
WILL HAVEN Rejoined By Vocalist GRADY AVENELL

Sacramento, California's WILL HAVEN has been rejoined by vocalist Grady Avenell.
Commented the band: "After a little time off and doing a few benefit shows for our brother Chi Cheng of the DEFTONES [who remains in a semi-conscious state 11 months after being gravely injured in a car crash in Northern California], we are back to work.
"As some of you may have seen Grady did join us for a few of the benefit shows we did for Chi and also an amazing show in San Francisco a few months ago. After those shows, we had a few discussions about WILL HAVEN's future and Grady expressed that he would like to be a part of it. So, after working out details, [we are] very happy to say that we are currently working on a new record with Grady handling the vocal duties. Jeff Jaworski [WILL HAVEN's most recent frontman, who joined the band as Grady's replacement in 2007] will still be a big part of the band and helping with the writing process on the new record. So we are more than excited to be all working together on making an amazing record.
"We have been demoing a few songs and [we] can say that [we]could not be happier.
"We will continue to keep everyone up to date on when we expect to have a record out; hopefully in January next year or earlier. We may do one or two shows while we are working on the record, so we will post [announce them] when we figure out when and where; definitely look for us to be in the Los Angeles area soon. That will most likely mark our first 'official' show with Grady.
"So we are more than excited to have Grady back with us. The time away has done him good, because he is back with more rage than ever."
WILL HAVEN's most recent album, "The Hierophant", was released in June 2007 through Bieler Bros. Records. Heralded by guitarist Jeff Irwin as "by far the best stuff we have ever done" and featuring production by Shaun Lopez (FAR, REVOLUTION SMILE) and DEFTONES vocalist Chino Moreno, the CD was WILL HAVEN's first release since 2001's critically acclaimed "Carpe Diem". It was also the group's first effort with Jaworski (formerly of RED TAPE).
Following the release of "Carpe Diem", WILL HAVEN seemed primed for the spotlight as the band headlined venues in the United States and Europe alike, adorned metal magazine covers and was tagged "Saviors of Rock Music" by U.K. music-press powerhouse Kerrang! Then, without warning, the band announced they would be going on indefinite hiatus. That hiatus would last until 2006 when amidst much speculation WILL HAVEN returned with a co-headline tour of the U.K. with CROWBAR and a subsequent record deal with fast-rising indie label powerhouse Bieler Bros. Records.

JASON BONHAM Talks About Upcoming 'Evening With' Dates On 95.5 KLOS 'Mark And Brian' Show
- Oct. 12, 2009
Drummer Jason Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN, UFO, FOREIGNER) — son of the late LED ZEPPELIN drummer John Bonham — was interviewed this morning (Monday, October 12) on the "Mark And Brian" show on the Southern California rock station 95.5 KLOS. The chat is available for streaming using the audio player below.
Bonham has scheduled the following "An Evening With Jason Bonham" dates in October:
Oct. 14 - Revolution Live - Ft. Lauderdale, FL Oct. 15 - House of Blues - Orlando, FL Oct. 16 - State Theatre - St. Petersburg, FL Oct. 29 - Coach House - San Juan Capistrano, CA Oct. 30 - The Canyon - Agoura Hills, CA
According to the LED ZEPPELIN fan site Lemon Squeezings, Bonham's band will consist of two guitarists: Ian Hatton, who played for the original BONHAM band (1989-1991) and took part in the post-BONHAM project named MOTHERLAND (1994); and Tony Catania, who played in the JASON BONHAM BAND (1995-1997). Two new recruits for the band are singer Kelly Keeling (BATON ROUGE, MICHAEL SCHENKER) and bassist Francesco DiCosmo. They'll be playing songs from LED ZEPPELIN and all of the other bands Jason has toured and recorded with, such as UFO and FOREIGNER, plus his own bands. Also featured on the setlist will be some songs that Robert Plant included on his first solo album. Bonham explained that he played on demo versions of Plant's "Like I've Never Been Gone" and "Burning Down on One Side". "I did all the demos for that," Bonham said. "I used to be picked up from school when I was, like, 13 [or] 14, just after Dad died. ... [I'd] go into Robert's house, and all the guys in the band would be there."
According to Classic Rock magazine, Bonham is doing these gigs by way of tribute to Daniel MacMaster, the Canadian frontman who sang on the two albums from BONHAM (1989's "The Disregard Of Timekeeping" and 1992's "Mad Hatter"). MacMaster died on March 16, 2008, from a Group A streptococcal infection. He was 39 years old.
Jason explained: "Tragically, Daniel passed away and I always regretted the fact that I didn't do more for him during his lifetime. Just like myself, Daniel struggled with his addictions so that's something I know all about.
"2009 is the 20th anniversary of 'The Disregard Of Timekeeping', so I [wanted] to pay tribute to what was a great period in all our lives. Whether anything new will come out of it, I don't know. It's all about having fun."

BRET MICHAELS: 'The Daily Adventures Of Bandana Man'
- Oct. 12, 2009
VH1's recent airing of Bret Michaels' "Behind the Music" stole the highest ratings of the day upon its October debut and the repeat airings continue to perform.
The "Behind the Music" special is a personal journey from Michaels' birth through the POISON years to his most recent solo adventures, proving that Michaels can roll with the changes yet still remain true to himself. The charismatic, down-to-earth frontman and now star of his own hit reality show "Rock of Love" gave fans a chance to step inside his personal life. The "Behind the Music" explores his passion for music, motorcycles, fast cars and faster women, highly publicized relationships, sex-tape scandals, the loss of a best friend, his support of our troops, and most importantly the love of his daughters (Raine and Jorja).
Although Michaels has recently been featured on both A&E's "Biography" and E!'s "True Hollywood Story", the VH1 "Behind the Music" focused more on his life long struggle with type 1 diabetes and other personal trials and tragedies in both his personal and professional life.
"Bret Michaels is a cultural touchdown for our network," states chairman and CEO of MTV Networks, Judy McGrath.
Even though Bret's show "Rock of Love" is a smash hit for VH1, Michaels has yet to confirm whether or not he will do another season, although online surveys clearly state that fans demand another "Rock of Love". Currently there are talks of a new reality show created by Michaels titled "The Daily Adventures of Bandana Man", a docu-soap that follows the frontman through the ups, downs, rock star moments, and comedy of errors which is his daily life.
After completing the highly successful POISON tour with DEF LEPPARD this summer, Michaels is back on the road solo, finishing a fall run of his "Rock of Love" tour. At the moment Bret is focused on completing his autobiography titled "Roses and Thorns", a raw look into the reality of living out his rock and roll fantasy. The autobiography is to be released by Simon & Schuster in the spring of 2010.
"There are many reasons Bret is just as successful and relevant 20 years after he emerged into the world of American pop culture," states Michaels's spokesperson, Janna Elias. "His passion for both playing music as well as the business of taking care of it, combined with his close connection to his fans and his ability to find positive in the most negative of situations, make him undeniably likable to fans and industry insiders alike, his work hard, play harder attitude always prevails."
Case in point: Michaels recently traveled over 700 miles from Detroit, Michigan to West Springfield, Massachusetts within a 16-hour time frame to perform in extreme weather conditions. When most performers would have been exhausted from the trip and cautious of performing in the rain and cold weather, Bret did not hesitate. He walked out on the stage in the pouring rain and gave "150 percent" to thousands of fans some of whom have been waiting since 7 'clock that morning.
Dennis Jernberg of CriticalMass.se has uploaded quality video footage of PENTAGRAM's October 1, 2009 performance at The Rock in Copenhagen, Denmark. Watch the three clips below.
PENTAGRAM is the band led by the "Godfather of U.S. doom," Brooklyn-born Bobby Liebling.
For the first time in 25 years, Liebling returned to New York City on March 6 for a headlining PENTAGRAM performance at Webster's Hall. The show was filmed for the 9.14 Pictures ("Rock School", "Two Days In April") documentary, "Last Rites: The Fall & Rise of Bobby Liebling".
On stage with Liebling was ex-'RAM family member, Gary Isom (SPIRIT CARAVAN) on drums, who joined Liebling live again for the first time in nearly 15 years. This show introduced the shredding talents of D.C.'s Russ Strahan on guitar and the heavier-than-Hades rumble of Mark Ammen (UNORTHODOX) on bass.
According to AOL's Noisecreep, the documentary film, which was done by Liebling's former manager and photographer, centers around the drug use and self-destructive nature that has plagued his life. Based on accounts of those close to him — and self-described "metal historians' — these were the forces that always kept PENTAGRAM from taking over the word in the '70s."Everyone's always telling me, 'You ought to write a book,'" Leibling convulsively laughs. "I don't write books because I sing songs."
This film has been said to be very raw, holding nothing back. "There's me all filthy and smoking crack in it," details Leibling. "And all the dope-smoking years and all the cocaine years — all the years of my life, which is all those. But now I abstain from all that and get high on sex and music. Actually it's love and music, so scratch that."

ARCH ENEMY To Join Forces With EXODUS For 'Tyrants Of Evil' North American Tour
- Oct. 12, 2009
Swedish/German extreme metallers ARCH ENEMY will join forces with San Francisco thrash legends EXODUS for the "Tyrants of Evil" North American tour in January/February. Also appearing on the bill are ARSIS and MUTINY WITHIN.
Confirmed dates are as follows:
Jan. 20 - Towson, MD @ Recher Theatre Jan. 21 - Philadelphia, PA @ Theatre of Living Arts Jan. 22 - New York, NY @ Nokia Theatre Jan. 23 - Worcester, MA @ The Palladium Jan. 25 - Montreal, QC @ Le Medley Jan. 26 - Quebec City, QC @ Theatre Imperial Jan. 27 - Toronto, ON @ Phoenix Concert Theatre Jan. 29 - Chicago, IL @ House of Blues Jan. 30 - Minneapolis, MN @ The Rock Jan. 31 - Winnipeg, MB @ The Garrick Centre Feb. 02 - Calgary, AB @ MacEwan Hall Ballroom Feb. 03 - Edmonton, AB @ Edmonton Events Center Feb. 05 - Vancouver, BC @ Commodore Ballroom Feb. 06 - Seattle, WA @ Showbox at the Market Feb. 08 - San Francisco, CA @ Regency Center @ The Grand Feb. 09 - West Hollywood, CA @ House of Blues
"The Root Of All Evil", the new album from metallers ARCH ENEMY, recently entered the Media Control chart in Germany at position No. 84. Released on October 6 in North America via Century Media Records, this special collection features re-recorded versions of songs from the band's first three LPs — "Black Earth" (1996), "Stigmata" (1998) and "Burning Bridges" (1999). Acclaimed British producer Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, TESTAMENT, EXODUS) mixed and mastered the CD, which was recorded at a few different locations in Sweden and produced by ARCH ENEMY with Daniel Erlandsson and Rickard Bengtsson handling the engineering.
Nuclear Blast Records has set a January 15 release date for "Shovel Headed Tour Machine (Live At Wacken And Other Assorted Atrocities)" from EXODUS. The package will contain the band's July 2008 performance at Germany's Wacken Open Air festival, plus a documentary following the band through the last five years of touring as well as bonus footage, with photo galleries and all of the group's promotional videos. The set will consist of two DVDs plus an audio CD of the Wacken performance.
The German edition of Metal Hammer magazine conducted an interview with EXODUS guitarist Gary Holt at this year's installment of the Graspop Metal Meeting, which was held on June 26-28, 2009 on the festival grounds of the Boeretang in Dessel, Belgium.
When asked about EXODUS' plans for a new studio album, Holt said, "Hopefully we're hitting the studio around November 1 with Mr. Sneap [British producer Andy Sneap; MEGADETH, NEVERMORE, ARCH ENEMY]. It's gonna be sick. We have four [songs] recorded [and left over] from the last session [for 2007's 'The Atrocity Exhibition... Exhibit A'], and I've got, like, nine [other tracks] I'm working on, and Lee [Altus, guitar] has a bunch of stuff. But this next album is gonna blow people's minds."
Regarding the upcoming CD's musical direction, Holt said, "There's a couple of twists on this. I try not to repeat every album. I mean, we did 'Tempo Of The Damned' [2004], [which was] a little more old-school, and we did 'Shovel Headed Kill Machine' [2005], which was really brutal and fast, and then 'The Atrocity Exhibition... Exhibit A' [2007], [which] was, like, longer and more epic songs. So this album's gonna have some different stuff to it. Maybe a little more dual-guitar stuff, 'cause I've been playing with Lee for quite awhile now — a little more dual-guitar harmony shred stuff. "

Previously Unreleased Song Featuring Ex-ANTHRAX Singer, LIFE OF AGONY Guitarist Posted Online
- Oct. 12, 2009
A song called "Finish First" featuring Dan Nelson (ex-ANTHRAX) on vocals, Joey Z. (LIFE OF AGONY) on guitar and Crock LaRock (AUNT HILDEGARD) on drums is available for streaming at this location. (***UPDATE: The file has since been removed.***)
Nelson and LaRock reportedly collaborated on several other tracks while they were members of the band THEY SAY, including "Home", "Enemy", "Contagious", "California" and "Burn In June".
Nelson recently told The Metal Den that he has been writing his own music as well as singing and playing guitar in the band INSIDE HOLLOW. In addition, he revealed that he has been working on a new metal project with drummer Paul Bostaph (TESTAMENT, SLAYER, EXODUS, FORBIDDEN) that he said was coming along "killer."
Regarding his split with ANTHRAX, Nelson said, "I never live my life with any regrets and never look back and wish I did something different. I chose instead to look forward to the future. We did some great things in the time we wrote and performed together, and I am very proud of that."
As previously reported, LIFE OF AGONY will perform its acclaimed debut album, "River Runs Red", in its entirety at Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey on November 28 in celebration of the band's 20-year anniversary.
LIFE OF AGONY has played sporadic shows over the course of the last four years after completing its successful touring cycle for the 2005 Epic Records release, "Broken Valley". The band is currently without a record deal, having parted ways with Epic four years ago.

Ryan of Road Crew Magazine conducted an interview with OTEP frontwoman Otep Shamaya on September 28, 2009 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Watch the chat below.
OTEP's new album, "Smash The Control Machine", sold around 10,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 47 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was released on August 18 via Victory Records.
The "Smash The Control Machine" deluxe CD/DVD package includes:
* DVD includes interviews, poetry readings and more *CD/DVD deluxe edition includes: holographic cover, digipack, 52-page booklet with lyrics, poems and illustrations from Otep Shamaya
Shamaya previously said of the album, "The economic crisis is hitting every working family in this country. The album and its title track, 'Smash The Control Machine', will lay bare the greed and corruption that fostered this calamity, but will also focus on the undying spirit of the working class that always fights the good fight. The title is a line from a William S. Burroughs poem. It is my intention to create an album that serves every head of the hydra that is OTEP. From poetry, to politics, to shock and awe, to sex and righteousness, to standing up and fighting back. Like the mystical symbol of the Ouroboros (the sacred serpent swallowing its tail) all things will be brought back to circle."

BLOOD RED THRONE: Rotterdam Footage Available
- Oct. 12, 2009
Fan-filmed video footage of BLOOD RED THRONE's October 10, 2009 performance at the Baroeg in Rotterdam, The Netherlands can be viewed below (courtesy of "letthedeathmetalflow").
BLOOD RED THRONE's fifth album, "Souls Of Damnation", was released on June 1 in Europe and June 30 in the U.S. via Earache Records. The limited-edition first pressing of the CD, which coincided with the band's 10th anniversary, included two bonus tracks, plus a special DVD featuring an exclusive new interview with the band, along with an in-depth studio diary documenting the album's recording process.
KNCN's (C-101) Monte Montana conducted an interview with METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo when the band played a sold-out show in San Antonio, Texas on September 28, 2009. You can now listen to the chat in two parts below. A couple of excerpts from the interview follow.
On Zakk Wylde's current health status (Trujillo played with Zakk in both Ozzy Osbourne's band and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY):
"I think he is doing a lot better. The last I heard, he hasn't had a drink in over a month, which is absolutely incredible for him, because this guy, if you don't know him, he's a drinking a machine and can be dangerous [laughs] if you catch him at the wrong time, or the right time. But Zakk has a heart of gold; he's really a special human being. He's very giving. And we all hope that his health gets better and that he gets it right, 'cause he is a good person. We all make mistakes and sometimes we make mistakes because of the drinking. I'm sure he's hopefully learning from that. When alcohol or drugs start taking over your health and your family and all that, that's crazy. But again, Zakk's a wonderful person; I love him dearly. He's an amazing musician, and I don't just mean guitar player. The man can play piano, he can sing, he's a got a lot of soul and he's a good spirit."
On Ozzy Osbourne recently passing his driving test:
"Ozzy, he wasn't driving legally, but Ozzy knows how to drive. But I wouldn't trust him if my life depended on it, especially in a city like San Antonio or any major city. He can drive. He's a sneaky guy and he's actually very coordinated. People don't think Ozzy's coordinated, but if you've ever seen him on stage and you've seen someone throw a bra at him or a crucifix or something, and that hand pops up and — SNAG! — and he catches it. He's got good motor skills, believe it or not. I don't think anyone will believe me on that one, but I've seen it in person. If I were to have a baseball team and I needed Ozzy as my clean-up hitter, I think I'd trust him on that; he'd hit a couple of home runs."
METALLICA has launched an iPhone application that "creates a streaming interface to your LiveMetallica account," meaning that any live show fans have downloaded from the site will automatically stream to their iPhones once they launch the app, which costs 99 cents. Fans just have to purchase the app at the iPhone store and log onto their account at LiveMetallica.com to access every gig they've downloaded, as well as a free stream of the band's latest concert. More developments and features are also on the way.
METALLICA has added single-song downloads to the LiveMetallica.com web site. Instead of buying only entire concerts, fans can pick whatever individual songs they want from any concert they choose from. Every song that the band has recorded in concert since 2004, covering a span of 269 shows, is available for 99 cents per MP3. Full shows are still $9.95 as MP3 files and $12.95 as higher-quality FLAC files.
Frontman James Hetfield told The Pulse of Radio about deciding to release individual songs, "Yeah, I think the song-per-song vs. album is kind of a long lost battle, I think. You know, people in the fast-food world we live in want what they want, and want it now, and when they're done with it, they're done with it. So yeah, it's about time, and I think it's the right move."
LiveMetallica.com was launched in March 2004 and makes downloads available for purchase of every show the band has played since then, often within hours of the gig's finale.
More than 300,000 downloads have been purchased at the site since its launch.
The "Vault" section of the site offers free downloads of shows recorded before 2004.
More shows will crop up at the site in upcoming weeks, since METALLICA just launched a new North American tour last month. The band has dates booked through mid-December.

PAIN CONFESSOR To Record Four New Songs
- Oct. 12, 2009
Finnish metallers PAIN CONFESSOR are preparing to enter the studio to record four new songs. The sessions will be engineered and helmed by the bandmembers themselves, with the mixing and mastering set to be overseen by Janne Saksa of Studio Sound Supreme. More information will be made available soon.
PAIN CONFESSOR last year uploaded two new demo tracks — "X9" and "Reality Of Now" — to the band's MySpace page. The songs were recorded at the group's home studio and were mixed by Saksa, who "really made this work by mixing the whole thing and adding his own unique and special touch that we really have missed," according to the band.
PAIN CONFESSOR parted ways with Megamania Records and is currently seeking a new label home.
The band's third album, "Purgatory of the Second Sun", entered the Finnish chart at position No. 15 back in March 2007.
"Purgatory of the Second Sun" was recorded at Fantom studio and was previously described by the band as "raw and furious."
PAIN CONFESSOR's "Ne Plus Ultra" single entered the Finnish national chart at position No. 1. In addition to the title cut, the single included a cover of SURVIVOR's "Eye of the Tiger", which had "gone through a serious metal facelift," according to the group. A video for "Ne Plus Ultra" was shot by Vasara Films and can be viewed below.
KISS' new album, "Sonic Boom", has registered the following first-week chart positions so far:
Germany: #4 Holland: #13 Italy: #14 U.K.: #24
According to Billboard.com, "Sonic Boom" may shift somewhere between 160,000 and 180,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. If the set sells that much, it will also mark the group's best sales week since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking data in 1991.
KISS has notched seven Top 10 albums. Its highest charting set is 1998's "Psycho Circus", which debuted and peaked at No. 3 with 110,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The group's other high-charting sets include 1975's "Alive!" (No. 9), 1977's "Love Gun" (No. 4) and 1992's "Revenge" (No. 6).
"Sonic Boom" features three discs — a collection of all new material, a re-recorded greatest hits CD and a live DVD shot in Argentina during the band's recent Kiss Alive 35 South American tour. This marks the band's first set off all new material in 11 years.
KISS filmed footage for the "Modern Day Delilah" video during the band's private warm-up show at Cobo Arena in Detroit, Michigan on September 24. Over 1,500 lucky fans attended the event, where the group also previewed its new stage and taped two songs for an episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"
