LIMP BIZKIT's DJ LETHAL To MACHINE HEAD: 'The Only Thing Crushed Was Your Egos'
- Aug. 2, 2009
LIMP BIZKIT's DJ Lethal (a.k.a. Leor Dimant) has responded to MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn's assertion that MH was going to "crush" LB when the two bands shared the stage earlier today (Sunday, August 2) at the Sonisphere festival at the legendary Knebworth Park, United Kingdom.
MACHINE HEAD, who announced on July 7 that they were pulling out of the U.K. Sonisphere because the event's promoter "placed, unbeknownst to us, LIMP BIZKIT in our third slot on the festival," returned to the bill as the top-secret "special guests." They performed right before LIMP BIZKIT, hitting the stage at around 2:45 p.m.
Writing on MACHINE HEAD's official message board the day before the band's appearance at the festival, Flynn said, "We're going to fucking CRUSH LIMP BIZKIT!!!!"
Flynn addressed MACHINE HEAD's reason for returning to the Sonisphere bill during the band's performance at the event. He said, "After the promoters of Sonisphere begged us to come back onto this thing last week, the only even consideration that we made it for is for all of you fucking fans, man! It wasn't for Sonisphere, it wasn't for LIMP BIZKIT — it was for the fucking lunatics of this fucking country that have treated us so fucking good, man. It is an honor to play for you, guys. It is a privilege to play for you, guys. We are so fucking lucky to have a fan base like you, man."
Shortly after LIMP BIZKIT concluded its performance at Sonisphere, DJ Lethal posted the following message on his Facebook profile:
"Just finished playing at Sonisphere festival in London with NIN and METALLICA... As for (MACHINE HEAD), hahaha, the only thing crushed was your egos. lol... Suck it!!!!"
According to LimpBizkit.org, DJ Lethal commented further on the MACHINE HEAD situation while responding to a couple of fans on Facebook. He wrote, "I am a fan [of MACHINE HEAD] too; they just got pissy about some promoter stuff then got personal... I even wore a MH shirt on stage . . . They still played after crying about the whole thing. We would have gladly played before them; no big deal. But whaa whaa whaaaaaa…"
In a recent Twitter update, LIMP BIZKIT frontman Fred Durst claimed that he was "shocked" when he first heard that MACHINE HEAD was pulling out of the U.K. Sonisphere because of a dispute over LIMP BIZKIT's slot at the festival. However, he was quick to add, "[I] love MACHINE HEAD [and] always will."

WARBRINGER At ROCK AM BACH Festival; Interview, Performance Footage Available
- Aug. 2, 2009
Bunch TV conducted an interview with Los Angeles thrashers WARBRINGER when the band played the Rock Am Bach festival, which was held July 10-11, 2009 at the Zeltpalast in Merzig, Germany. The clip — which includes performance footage — can be viewed below.
"Waking Into Nightmares", the sophomore album from WARBRINGER, sold around 2,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD landed at position No. 14 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
"Waking Into Nightmares" was released on May 19 via Century Media Records. The CD was mixed by Zack Ohren (SUFFOCATION, ALL SHALL PERISH) and the cover artwork was created by esteemed artist Dan Seagrave (MORBID ANGEL, ENTOMBED).
WARBRINGER's new album was recorded at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland, California with axeman/producer Gary Holt (EXODUS).
"Severed Reality", the new video from WARBRINGER, was filmed on February 22 at The Rave in Milwaukee, Wisconsin by Dave Brodsky (THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, SUICIDE SILENCE) during WARBRINGER's tour with DARKANE and SOILWORK.
Commented vocalist John Kevill: "The video for 'Severed Reality' got done in the middle of a tour, and it was done mostly live at the venue we were playing at that night in Milwaukee. We did a couple shots on the stage before anyone showed up, and then just shot the whole show for the video. As it turns out, the show was fucking insane, we couldn't even fit all the stage divers in the video! David Brodsky went to put the whole thing together and it came out great; I think it is the strongest video we have had so far."
WARBRINGER recently completed a North American tour with KREATOR, EXODUS, BELPHEGOR and EPICUREAN.

SYSTEM DIVIDE To Film 'The Apex Doctrine' Video
- Aug. 2, 2009
SYSTEM DIVIDE, the brand new extreme modern metal band featuring members of ABORTED, DISTORTED, MALIGNANCY and ANTENORA, has posted another new song, "The Apex Doctrine", on its MySpace page. The track comes off the group's recently completed EP, entitled "The Collapse". The effort was produced and engineered by guitarist Cole Martinez and was mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen (ABORTED, MERCENARY, RAUNCHY, HATESPHERE, VOLBEAT).
SYSTEM DIVIDE will film a video for "The Apex Doctrine" later this month in New York with director Kevin Custer (HATEBREED, TESTAMENT, DYING FETUS, SUFFOCATION).
According to a press release, SYSTEM DIVIDE "unites a myriad of sounds, going from STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, SOILWORK, LACUNA COIL, DIMMU BORGIR, CHIMAIRA to even MORBID ANGEL. Prepare for the unexpected!"
Founded in summer 2008, SYSTEM DIVIDE features in its ranks vocalists Sven de Caluwé (ABORTED) and Miri Milman (ex-DISTORTED) along with longtime friends Cole Martinez (ex-YEARS OF FIRE, ANTENORA), Andrew Lenthe (ANTENORA), and Mike Heller (MALIGNANCY). SYSTEM DIVIDE set out to revolutionize the conventions of the over-saturated melodic death metal genre, proving that extreme metal can have more depth than blast beats, while female vocals do not have to conform to the precepts of the "goth" genre. In mixing many styles, "The Collapse" breaks all the rules of extreme metal and is a landmark release for the young band.
As opposed to interjecting simple, predictable clean choruses into contrived song structures, SYSTEM DIVIDE unites serene female vocals and extreme vocals driven by lyrical themes that confront and seek to break everyday themes of disillusionment, societal materialism, and individual apathy. Musically, the band delivers myriad styles of riffing and grooves, while augmenting the entrancing soundscapes with hard-hitting drums and intricate bass lines. These elements together define the unique, spell binding, hypnotic sound of SYSTEM DIVIDE.
In order to achieve this complex calculus of sounds on "The Collapse", Cole Martinez handled tracking duties at Conquistador Recordings. Artwork for "The Collapse" was completed by Colin Marks (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, ABORTED, NEVERMORE).

ALICE IN CHAINS Performs 'Check My Brain' For First Time; Video Available
- Aug. 2, 2009
Fan-filmed video footage of ALICE IN CHAINS performing the new song "Check My Brain" for the first time ever last night (Saturday, August 1) at Marlay Park in Dublin, Ireland can be viewed below.
The band's setlist was as follows:
01. Rain When I Die 02. Angry Chair 03. Man In The Box 04. Them Bones 05. Dam That River 06. A Looking In View 07. We Die Young 08. Would? 09. Check My Brain 10. Rooster
"Check My Brain" is the first single from the new ALICE IN CHAINS album, "Black Gives Way To Blue", which arrives on September 29.
ALICE IN CHAINS has tapped U2 and WHITE STRIPES video director Alex Courtes to shoot a clip for "Check My Brain".
Fans and members of the press heard "Black Gives Way To Blue" in its entirety at a private listening party in Los Angeles on July 14, followed by a three-song acoustic set by the band in which it debuted two songs from the album live — the title track and "Your Decision".
Although it's been posted online and is not an official single, the recently released ALICE IN CHAINS song "A Looking In View" has already begun climbing the rock radio charts as the first new music released by the group in 14 years. Guitarist Jerry Cantrell told The Pulse of Radio what the track was about. "The song is kind of generally about how easy it is to remain in a bad groove (laughs), you know, remain in a bad rut," he said. "The most difficult and at the same time easy thing is just to step out of it, you know what I mean? It's like being in a cell that you're locked in, with a door that's not locked. That could be anything, you know. It could be any sort of behavioral or thought process that keeps you there and basically keeps you from growing."
The group's tour starts on September 4 in Washington D.C.

DENDURA Vocalist 'Taking A Break'
- Aug. 2, 2009
Vocalist Aziza A. Poggi has announced that she is "taking a break" from her singing duties in the Grand Rapids, Michigan progressive metal band DENDURA in order to "rejuvenate and evolve into other musical projects." She comments in a statement, "DENDURA has been at a standstill with our album on Killzone Records produced by Neil Kernon (NEVERMORE, QUEENSRŸCHE, DOKKEN). Due to the economy, Killzone, like many other record labels, simply doesn't have the funds to complete our album; therefore, we are not able finish the album within a reasonable time. We all have the determination to complete this album, but realistically it may be up to a few years. In the meantime, we are working more on a self-produced album.
"Since realizing the Neil Kernon album will take longer than any of us anticipated, I have decided that I need to focus on other singing opportunities and projects. With that said, I am taking a break from DENDURA for a while. I am not quitting the band, but I have to keep on a path that is healthy and positive for me. For the benefit of all involved, I need to take a step away and rejuvenate and evolve into other musical projects..
"This fall I will be performing my last show or two with DENDURA before I go on break and will be recording our self-produced album, as well. I have told the band that if they decided to still perform during my hiatus, they have my blessing hiring a session singer as long as I had a hand in the selection process.
"On a positive note, I have joined the Grand Rapids Symphony Chorus and will be performing four shows with them this year including the music to 'The Lord of the Rings', and have also started a Middle Eastern fusion band with AL-ASDEKA members (in essence, I joined AL-ASDEKA). In addition, I am a classical singer vocal student in college. I also be doing some recording work for other bands and projects.
"I hope you all understand and will continue to support DENDURA and the projects I am involved in. We will keep you posted on our album's release, show information, and other news as it comes in."
DENDURA previously put out a self-released album, "New Life", and contributed a song to the award-winning film "Broken".
PANTHEON I: 'Serpent Christ' Video Unveiled
- Aug. 2, 2009
Norwegian extreme metallers PANTHEON I have unveiled the video for "Serpent Christ" (see below), a track taken from the band's newly released album, "Worlds I Create". The clip, which shows PANTHEON I performing amidst scenes of bondage and torture, was directed by Espen Krukhaug, who also worked on the band's previous video, "Where Angels Burn", and features Finland's Peik Mattheiszen in the role of torturer. Reprising their role of victims in the video are models Maria Olsen and Helga Bårdsdatter Kristiansen, who were recently seen in the band's promo photos — the uncensored versions of which can only be found on the band's web site due to their explicit nature.
PANTHEON I's third full-length album, "Worlds I Create" was released at the end of July on Candlelight Records, and includes a guest appearance on the track "Ascending" from KATATONIA frontman Jonas Renkse.
PANTHEON I is currently preparing for a short tour of its home country and is looking into the possibility of touring Eastern Europe. The band is also planning to hit the road in November on a European tour along with SKITLIV, the new band from former MAYHEM frontman MANIAC, and DEN SAAKALDTE. BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE: New Audio Interview With JASON 'JAY' JAMES Posted Online
- Aug. 2, 2009
The Silver Tongue's Shawn Evans conducted an interview with bassist Jason "Jay" James of Welsh metallers BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE on July 24, 2009 at the Atlanta, Georgia stop of this year's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. The chat is now available for streaming and/or download at this location.
BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE recently entered a Malibu, California studio with producer Don Gilmore (LINKIN PARK, LACUNA COIL) to begin recording its third album for an early 2010 release.
Regarding lyrical themes for the new material, guitarist/vocalist Matt Tuck previously told U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine, "There's one song that's about not being able to have what you want. Being in the band, it doesn't happen much. When it comes to girls, you can have the pick of the bunch, but you always want what you can't have, y'know… but it's this one chick, man… so it's a song about obsession."
The upcoming CD will be the follow-up to "Scream Aim Fire", which has sold 318,000 copies in the United States since its January 2008 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

15-year-Old Boy Seriously Hurt At SONISPHERE Festival
- Aug. 2, 2009
The Welwyn & Hatfield Times reports that a teenager is fighting for his life in hospital after a freak accident at the Sonisphere festival in Knebworth, United Kingdom.
The 15-year-old boy was thrown from a fairground ride in the grounds of Knebworth House, where the festival is taking place. He was strapped into the £3-a-go spinning wheel when he came loose and was launched into the air, according to Mirror.co.uk. He plunged into a row of portable toilets 30 yards away before slumping to the ground.
Paramedics raced to the scene shortly before 2:30 p.m. yesterday (Saturday, August 1).
Ambulance service spokesman Gary Sanderson, who was at the concert, said: "The young man sustained potentially life-threatening injuries and our paramedics at the venue worked rapidly to treat and stabilize him. Following this, he was rushed to an awaiting trauma team at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage."

TRIVIUM: New Audio Interview With MATT HEAFY Posted Online
- Aug. 2, 2009
The Silver Tongue's CoolKeith conducted an interview with guitarist/vocalist Matt Heafy of Florida metallers TRIVIUM on July 24, 2009 at the Atlanta, Georgia stop of this year's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. The chat is now available for streaming and/or download at this location.
TRIVIUM and Hot Topic have announced the "Into the Mouth of Hell We Tour", an extensive, 63-date trek which marks the band's first solo headline tour since 2006. WHITECHAPEL, DARKEST HOUR and DIRGE WITHIN serve as support for the first leg of the run. The tour kicks off in September and will run through October. More dates for the first leg will be announced in August, while additional dates and support for the second leg will be announced in September.
TRIVIUM are currently headlining the Jägermeister stage of the second annual Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. They are known for being voracious road dogs, having toured America relentlessly, separately supporting SLIPKNOT and LAMB OF GOD. They have also appeared as part of KORN's "Family Values" package and have also supported IRON MAIDEN.
TRIVIUM has come up with a "brilliant" way to allow its live show be something that the fans are able to enjoy repeatedly. This tour will feature a special promotion, where at participating venues, each ticket buyer will be able to re-live their experience at the show, as they will have the option to use their ticket stub, via a unique code, to redeem a free, full digital soundboard recording of the TRIVIUM show that they attended. Fans will be able to use the bar code number on their ticket as their unique code to redeem their music at www.trivium.org.
Commented Heafy: "North American headline tour... we meet again. It's been far too long since we've toured North America as a headliner and we're back with a vengeance. It's our time to come in for the final waves of the 'Shogun' touring and party with our friends in the USA and Canada. Our live show, without a doubt in my mind, is now the strongest it has ever been; our sets are more diverse, tighter than ever and we've got some of the sickest current metal bands out with us to bring you one hell of a tour. This very well could be the last one for a while, so let's do this in style... we'll see you soon."

ANTHRAX Performs With JOHN BUSH At U.K. SONISPHERE; First Footage Posted Online
- Aug. 2, 2009
ANTHRAX played yesterday (Saturday, August 1) at the Sonisphere festival in Knebworth, England, with John Bush (ANTHRAX's singer from 1992 to 2005) joining them for a very special one-off performance.
ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian wrote on his Twitter page shortly after the concert, "40-odd thousand people chanting 'Bring back Bush.' 'Nuff said."
Metal Hammer magazine writes in its review of the gig, "One word sums up ANTHRAX [at Sonisphere] — flawless. Smashing through the barricades with a thunderous 'What Doesn't Die', it's mind-blowing to think that this incarnation of ANTHRAX haven't played together for four years. Bush's voice is nothing short of sensational, as his enthusiasm and energy.
"'Caught In A Mosh', 'Antisocial', making an entire field full of people lose their fucking mind during 'Bring The Noise' and a finale of 'Indians', John Bush and ANTHRAX came to Knebworth and came, saw and motherfucking conquered."
Fan-filmed video footage of the show (with low-quality audio) can be viewed below.
ANTHRAX parted ways with singer Dan Nelson last month due to what has been described as "personal differences." As a result, the band canceled 10 European shows and pulled out of a U.S. tour with SLIPKNOT which was scheduled to take place in August and September.
ANTHRAX's manager, Izvor Zivkovic of Split Media, told BLABBERMOUTH.NET on July 21 that the band's new album, "Worship Music", which was previously due in Europe on October 23 via Nuclear Blast Records, will now be "pushed back to a later date." According to Ian, Dan Nelson's tracks will most likely be erased from the CD, which was recently mixed at a New Orleans studio by Dave Fortman (a former member of UGLY KID JOE who has also worked with artists such as MUDVAYNE, EVANESCENCE).
When asked if he, in the back of his mind, is hoping that the Sonisphere show might lead to something more permanent with Bush, Ian told U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine, "It's not in the back of my mind — it's right at the front of it. When our reunion tour with Joey Belladonna and Dan Spitz finished in 2007, we [Ian, drummer Charlie Benante and bassist Frank Bello] wanted both John and [guitarist] Rob Caggiano to come back. Well, Rob returned but not John.
"I love working with John, and I know I speak for everyone involved with ANTHRAX — the band and the fans — when I say that the best thing for us would for this to turn into a long-term relationship. But I don't want to jump the gun. Let's see how things go at Sonisphere, and take it from there."

"Strange Cousins From the West" was made available both digitally and through retail on July 14. Produced by CLUTCH and J. Robbins at Magpie Cage Studios in Baltimore, the effort is the first CLUTCH studio LP to be released on the band's own Weathermaker Music, through RED Distribution.
"Strange Cousins From the West" includes the POPPO'S BLUES BAND cover song "Algo Ha Cambiado", which Neil Fallon sings in Spanish. Poppo was a legendary Argentinian hard rock singer/guitarist throughout the '70s and '80s.
The title "Strange Cousins From the West" was taken from a line in the song "Minotaur".
Although CLUTCH has toured the world extensively over the past two years and released multiple CLUTCH-related projects, "Strange Cousins..." is the band's first original studio work since 2007's "From Beale Street to Oblivion" which featured the hit "Electric Worry".
