MISERATION Completes Work On Sophomore Album
- Sep. 10, 2009
Sweden's MISERATION — the collaboration between SCAR SYMMETRY vocalist Christian Älvestam and Jani Stefanovic (ESSENCE OF SORROW, DIVINEFIRE) — has completed work on its sophomore album, "The Mirroring Shadow", for a November 16 release in Europe and January 19 in North America via Lifeforce Records. The follow-up to "Your Demons - Their Angels" was recorded at Panic Room studios with producer Tomas "Plec" Johansson.
Commented the band: "After a few months of intense work, we are happy to announce that our new album, 'The Mirroring Shadow', is now finally recorded and done. We are really proud of what we have accomplished this time and we can't wait to share this newborn baby with you all! Musically, it's definitely a step up, intensity- and aggression-wise; also being more technical than its predecessor. Even so, there are still a lot of melodic landscapes there to explore. Put together, this progression both came and felt very natural to us, once the new material started to take shape. Sound-wise, producer Tomas 'Plec' Johansson has really outdone himself on this one, giving the music a productional enviroment to die for! Crushingly pounding, yet crystal clear! A big thanks also to Stefan and Lifeforce Records for being patient, understanding and for backing us up in the hour of need! It will not be forgotten! Last, but not least, hats off to Pär Johansson for his brilliant lyrical contribution and to Pär Olofsson for an album artwork worthy of praise. Your exquisite work made all the difference! In all, we are very proud and happy with the outcome of our efforts, that is 'The Mirroring Shadow'!"
Check out the song "Dreamdecipher" — taken from the forthcoming album, "The Mirroring Shadow" — on the MISERATIONMySpace page.
MISERATION's debut album, "Your Demons, Their Angels", was released in Europe on September 15, 2008 and the U.S. on October 28, 2008.

MEGADETH's MUSTAINE: 'I Pray For The Guys In SLAYER'
- Sep. 10, 2009
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has posted the following message in the "Forums" section of the band's official web site:
"I am heading northbound tonight [Wednesday, September 9] to go to an event to watch Scott Weiland's [STONE TEMPLE PILOTS/ex-VELVET REVOLVER singer] new clothing line be released. Scott is pretty stylish in his dress, and I am curious as to what he did. I am also meeting with the people from ILoveAllAccess.com and discussing our touring plans coming up and the various ways to work out ticket and pass packages, some of which will include as much as two seats up on stage on my side in some concerts. We are also discussing everything that would go along with the experience; besides meeting MEGADETH (or at least me), a ticket, pass, some memorabilia, getting in the venue early, going backstage and just being a rock star!
"We won't have the two seats up on stage every night, and sometimes it will be on Chris' [Broderick, guitar] side, due to stage restrictions.
"I am feeling a little better today, although I am surprised why someone at the [MEGADETH's record label] Roadrunner site would say that they don't need [the fans'] help [in promoting the new MEGADETH album, 'Endgame']. I say we need your help. Don't stop for a second doing what you do, because if Roadrunner U.S. knows my feelings and that I was willing to give them a fresh chance in the U.S. and they want to do this, that is OK, too. [Addressing the fans] Please don't believe that. I welcome your support here in the U.S. and abroad.
"Someone said that the label prolly [sic] doesn't want to spend any money on a band that is going to leave them. I never said that I was going to leave them, I said that the U.S. label is not comparable to the international labels, and that I would stay with them if I continued on, and that I would re-evaluate the U.S. label based on what they do with 'Endgame'.
"Bottom line is that everyone in the entire world is watching what they are doing, and everyone has seen problems around the world with the job that is being done. The international labels are keen to fix things, and usually on it in mere moments. Whereas there has been tremendous difficulty with the U.S. label. They have changed out some people and I am hopeful that they will make good on the things that they did last time, and do good by this record. It would be a travesty to the metal community to have this record dropped by people who just don't want to help. "If you don't want to help, just say so and step aside. There are millions of fans out there that have no idea we have a new record coming out. That is just not OK. If I had a label, and I don't intend on that now, I would certainly do things differently.
"Regarding rumors of the 'Big Four' [METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX] touring, I have heard nothing about this, other than gossip, and I don't think that anyone would turn it down, but there are a lot of things that would have to be worked out. A LOT!
"As far as journalists are concerned, there are good ones and bad ones, and the guys that ask the questions that piss you off, you can only imagine how I feel. And for the people that are trying to get me to say something about SLAYER, here goes:
"I am having fun with this, and I hope not to hurt the [upcoming Australia/New Zealand] tour [with SLAYER] or the fans' chance of seeing these two great bands because I have said something I shouldn't have. I am aware that there are comments we all made in the past, but I have tried very, very hard not to make any comments about SLAYER, other than their music and concerts, because it is none of my business, and I am much older now than I was when I said the regrettable things I said.
"I am aware that there is stuff out there that has been said about me; some of it is old, some of it is new. I am disappointed in the new comments, but I am going to remain professional and give Kerry [King] and Tom [Araya] and SLAYER the benefit of the doubt and hope that it is just old stuff, and be the best tourmate that I can be. Either way, I pray for the guys in SLAYER, although they may not want it, but I do. I pray that we'll be friends again someday, I pray that the tour will be as much fun for them as it is for us, and I pray that they will be as happy as we are and more.
"Remember, three of the members in [the current lineup of] MEGADETH were not even there for the 'Clash Of The Titans' [MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX were joined by opening act ALICE IN CHAINS for the U.S. Clash Of The Titans tour in 1991 — Ed.].
"So, here is to forgiveness, and hopefully being forgiven for past 'stuff.'"
As previously reported, Kerry King has told U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine that he has heard through the grapevine that METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich is plotting a tour that would include METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX. It should be noted, however, that this report has not been corroborated by an official source and should be treated as a rumor only.
In an August 31, 2009 press conference in Paris, France, Kerry King was asked about his long-running "feud" with Mustaine and SLAYER's recent Canadian tour with MEGADETH. "We only did four [shows with MEGADETH so far on the current touring cycle]," he replied. "I think it's cool for the fans [to have SLAYER and MEGADETH touring together], you know. Everybody's all worried about the beef with me and Dave; we don't really get along. But I don't really have anything against him. I think he's a great guitar player. When we had that Canada thing pop up, I just said, 'I'm gonna go, and if I see Dave, I'll be cordial. I'll say, 'Hey, Dave. What's up?!' But if he's a dick to me, I'm gonna be a bigger dick to him.' And that's how [the upcoming SLAYER/MEGADETH tour of] Australia is gonna be, and that's how the next Canadian tour [with MEGADETH] is gonna be. I think maybe he's grown up a bit because I think he's a little pompous and I think he's a big hypocrite — that's my problem with him, personally — but I could never take anything away from his guitar playing; I think he's great."
In a September 1, 2009 interview with The Quietus web site, Tom Araya was asked if there was there any evidence of a rift between SLAYER and Dave Mustaine on the recent SLAYER/MEGADETH tour of Canada. "You know, I ran into him on two occasions, but when you see someone, and if you're a human being, you respect them and treat them as human beings — they're another living person," Tom said. "Other than that, the only thing we shared was that we did those four shows together. You know what I mean?! Nothing's really changed for me about him; I'm just waiting for him to open his mouth. [Laughs]"
When asked what the burning issue was between MEGADETH and SLAYER, Araya replied, "There isn't really a burning issue. The thing is he talks a lot of shit — then he apologizes for it, then he continues [talking shit]. Did you see [METALLICA's documentary] "Some Kind of Monster" [which features Mustaine in a scene with METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich and "performance enhancement coach" Phil Towle]? That should give you some kind of idea how he is!"

According to the band, the CD will contain a brand new song called "Utopia". "It's a duet between [WITHIN TEMPTATION singer] Sharon [den Adel] and Chris Jones. The group adds, "This single will only be available in stores in the Benelux from October 23, so if you want to have it, you can order it on iTunes or through our webshop in a few weeks."
"An Acoustic Night At The Theatre" contains "acoustic live tracks that were recorded during our sold-out theatre tour in November 2008," according to WITHIN TEMPTATION. Do You Want To Be On New METHODS OF MAYHEM Album? Here's Your Chance
- Sep. 10, 2009
Starting October 5, visit ThePublicRecord.com to download raw tracks and upload your best musical ideas for a chance to be on the new album from MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee's METHODS OF MAYHEM project. You can be a part of the first truly interactive recording project with Lee.
Beginning next month, you'll be able to download Tommy's raw song ideas, record your own parts (guitars, bass, keys, beats, etc.) and upload them for the chance to be credited on the worldwide release of Tommy's new METHODS OF MAYHEM album. Enter your best performance for the chance to hit the stage with Tommy at the CD-release concert.
METHODS OF MAYHEM recently inked a worldwide deal with Loud & Proud Records, a Roadrunner Records imprint focusing on established artists. Roadrunner will release the band's sophomore album in early 2010.
Commented Lee: "I'm so f@&*ing pumped!! I've signed with my friends at Roadrunner... What a perfect home for my second METHODS OF MAYHEM record. We're about to do what no team has ever done before... Buckle up and hang on, kids!"
In a recent interview with TuneLab.com, drummer Will Hunt (EVANESCENCE, STATIC-X, DARK NEW DAY, TOMMY LEE) — who played on the new METHODS OF MAYHEM CD — stated about the album, "People are gonna be very surprised when they hear that record. It's very different than anything [Tommy's] done. It's still very cool, there's some very melodic, commercial stuff on it, but the bulk of the record is very heavy, grungy, DEFTONES-sounding stuff. And it's just really cool."
Lee formed METHODS OF MAYHEM in 1999 after he left MÖTLEY CRÜE. The all-star project collaboration with rapper TiLo featured input from LIMP BIZKIT's Fred Durst, THE CRYSTAL METHOD, Kid Rock, Snoop Dogg, and Mix Master Mike. After signing to MCA, METHODS OF MAYHEM issued its self-titled debut LP in late 1999.

GODHEAD Frontman To Release 'Last To Go Home' EP
- Sep. 10, 2009
Jason Charles Miller, lead singer of the rock band GODHEAD, will issue his first solo album on October 27. Titled "Last To Go Home", the five-song EP will be released on his own label, Count Mecha Music, and retail on iTunes and most major digital outlets for only $4.95.
Featuring guest performances by Motown legend Brenda Lee Eager (DIANA ROSS, SMOKEY ROBINSON, RAY CHARLES, STEVIE WONDER) and classical concert cellist Tina Guo, "Last To Go Home" showcases Jason Charles Miller as he's never been heard before.
A departure from his work at the helm of industrial-rock innovators GODHEAD, "Last To Go Home" introduces a softer side to Miller's personality, one where he unplugs his soul on songs that are carried by nothing more than evocative vocals and stripped-down acoustics.
Drawing on influences including JOHNNY CASH, MERLE HAGGARD and KRIS KRISTOFFERSON, the five original songs are written and produced by Miller, and blur the lines between Americana, alt-country, singer-songwriters and folk music.
To hear two songs from the EP, please visit Miller's MySpace page.
For a more intimate look at Jason Charles Miller and his influences, visit him on YouTube, where his bi-weekly video series "Covers On The Roof" features classic songs covered by Miller (and special guests). His list of covers so far includes "Old Man" (NEIL YOUNG), "Lights" (JOURNEY), "Simple Man" (LYNYRD SKYNYRD) and "Space Oddity" (DAVID BOWIE).

The details for the album's limited-edition CD were recently revealed: Apart from a very special "mediabook" packaging, it features three additional live bonus tracks, alternate artwork, an extended booklet and an exclusive patch as additional gimmick!
The song "Beast Of Man" is available for streaming at this location.

MUSTAINE: '10 Million People' Think I Should Have Been Inducted Into ROCK HALL With METALLICA
- Sep. 10, 2009
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine was recently interviewed by Cindy Scull of the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas radio station 97.1 The Eagle Rocks. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
On MEGADETH's new album, "Endgame":
Dave Mustaine: "'Endgame' was a record that we started... Some of the riffs I've had for years, and a lot of the stuff that connected all these riffs were written recently. In fact, even the song 'Headcrusher', that was the last song we wrote on this record. Shawn Drover [MEGADETH's current drummer] had co-wrote it with me and he'd had some stuff that he'd written and he sent it to me and I listened to it and I go, 'I don't like it.' And I was thinking, 'Why don't I like this?' So I picked up the guitar one day and I tried to figure out what he wrote. And the reason I didn't like it was because I had already written it before — he had the beginning of [the MEGADETH track] 'Take No Prisoners' [from the 1990 album 'Rust In Peace'] in his song. I was like, 'Shawn, you can't do that.' So when I was able to listen to the song and get past that first riff, I found a couple of really great segments in the song. But it was weird; when you're hearing something that you can't quite put your finger on, and then you realize it's your stuff. [laughs] It was actually flattering. When I got to the next part in the song, it ended up [being] inspiring enough to help me wanna do a song with him. 'Cause I've been doing this a really long time; it's a little bit easier for me to understand how to put a song together than for most guys. Shawn is such a great bandmember. When Junior [former MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson] and I parted ways, I thought, well, even though I don't care for this guy anymore after suing me, I certainly know it's gonna be some big shoes to fill. And when Shawn came in, I had no idea that the ambassador role that Junior filled that Shawn was gonna take over, but he did, and he does it great. And when James Lomenzo [current MEGADETH bassist] came in... I was comparing James MacDonough [Ellefson's initial replacement in MEGADETH] to Junior a lot, and it wasn't working. But when Lomenzo came in, he plays as good as Junior does, and he sings better, because Junior couldn't sing. James was part of that WHITE LION thing way back in the '80s, and he can sing, man — he can sing really good."
On why he didn't attend METALLICA's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in Cleveland, Ohio in April 2009:
Dave Mustaine: "Well, I'm not gonna sit in the audience and watch the band I started with these two guys get inducted and me not be a part of it."
On whether METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich was "being a dick" to him when Lars called him to invite him to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony:
Dave Mustaine: "I'm not gonna comment on that, but you can read through the lines. Anybody who heard anything that went down there, if they know Lars, they know that's how he is. I think he did the best that he could with trying to talk to me, because I know that I don't make him comfortable. And I'm sad about that, because I've tried really hard to bury the hatchet with this cat."
On some people's assertion that Mustaine should have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with METALLICA:
Dave Mustaine: "There's ten million people that agree [I should have been inducted]. . . You know what [Lars] said to me?! He said, [imitating Lars' Danish accent] 'Only the people that are on the fucking record can be at the Hall of Fame, man.' And I was like, 'Well, Hooked On Phonics worked for me; I can read my name; it's all over [the first METALLICA album]. [laughs] But you know what?! It's OK, 'cause if I'm gonna get into the Hall of Fame, there's nothing he can do to stop me."
During the interview, Mustaine also confirmed that he is once again single, having split up with his wife of 18 years, Pamela Mustaine.
Cindy Scull's entire 16-minute chat with Dave Mustaine is now available for streaming in two parts below.
Part 1:
Part 2:
Dave and his wife previously filed for divorce twice, according to San Diego Superior Court records — in February 2008 and May 2006 — only to apparently change their minds and withdraw the petitions.
Dave Mustaine married Pamela Anne Casselberry in 1991. They have one son, Justis, born in 1992, and a daughter, Electra, born in 1998. The family has lived in Arizona, but is believed to currently reside in Fallbrook, California.

ZAKK WYLDE Has 'Rare Genetic Clotting Disorder,' Says His Wife
- Sep. 10, 2009
Zakk Wylde's wife Barbaranne has revealed that the BLACK LABEL SOCIETY frontman is suffering from "a rare genetic clotting disorder" for which he is currently receiving treatment in California. She writes, "Zakk is still on this roller-coaster. One day blood thinners [which are used to prevent clots from forming in the blood, are] too high... next day they don't even register in his blood."
She adds, "We have an appointment with a hemotologist [a blood disorder specialist] on Friday [September 11].
"[Zakk] does have a rare genetic clotting disorder."
Wylde stated in a recent Twitter message that he "was given a CT scan where they found three clots. I was then told each one of the clots passed through my heart. . . My left leg has a clot above the side and behind my knee, my calf and running into my heel. My right leg has a clot in between my calf and ankle." Zakk also indicated that he has to get himself to a hospital emergency room "every 48 hours" to check his blood. He added that he is unable to sing at the moment "because pushing can cause an embolism."
An embolism occurs when an object migrates from one part of the body (through circulation) and causes a blockage (occlusion) of a blood vessel in another part of the body.
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY was forced to drop off the "Pedal To The Metal Tour" due to Zakk's condition. The rest of the bands on the trek — MUDVAYNE, STATIC-X, SUICIDE SILENCE and BURY YOUR DEAD — carried on with the remaining dates on the tour after BLS's departure.
Further updates on Zakk's medical condition will become available as they are known.

HATEBREED: New Song Available For Free Download
- Sep. 10, 2009
A new HATEBREED track entitled "Merciless Tide" is available for free download at this location. The song comes off the Connecticut hardcore/metal masters' forthcoming self-titled album, which is scheduled for release in North America on September 29 via E1 Music (formerly KOCH Records). The effort will be available on CD, digital download, vinyl and special edition with a bonus 65-minute DVD. The follow-up to 2006's "Supremacy" will be issued on Roadrunner in all other territories.
"Hatebreed" track listing:
01. Become The Fuse 02. Not My Master 03. Between Hell And A Heartbeat 04. In Ashes They Shall Reap 05. Hands Of A Dying Man 06. Everyone Bleeds Now 07. No Halos For The Heartless 08. Through The Thorns 09. Every Lasting Scar 10. As Damaged As Me 11. Words Became Untruth 12. Undiminished 13. Merciless Tide 14. Pollution Of The Soul 15. Escape (New Diehard Edit)
"In Ashes They Shall Reap", the new video from HATEBREED, can be viewed below.
Commented HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta: "'In Ashes They Shall Reap' is the first song we decided to focus on from our new album. I feel like this song will go on to become a big part of our live show as fans become more and more familiar with it. 'Live For This', 'I Will Be Heard' and 'Destroy Everything' followed a similar type musical structure where the call and response part of the song become mini-anthems onto themselves and the audience responds accordingly and we feed off that energy.
"We shot this video a few weeks back in Hartford, Connecticut with our longtime friend/director Dale 'Rage' Resteghini, who also shot 'Defeatist' and some of our earlier clips as well.
"The video captures the essence of the song and all the die-hard fans that came out to be a part of the live video shoot brought it to another level. We owe a lot to our fans for being the most amazing die-hards ever. We can't wait to start playing this song live and re-creating the energy you're about to see…"

According to singer Phil Labonte, the clip will feature "tons of footage of us on tour, behind the scenes, and other stuff."
ALL THAT REMAINS last month released a two-song "Forever In Your Hands" digital EP via iTunes, Amazon, etc. Labonte says, "It [has] the radio edit of the song, plus an acoustic version that Oli [Herbert, guitar], Mike [Martin, guitar] and I laid down in the studio a [few] weeks ago."

HIRAX At San Francisco's DNA Lounge; Performance, Backstage Footage Posted Online
- Sep. 10, 2009
Reality Check TV has posted video footage of HIRAX's August 2, 2009 performance at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco, California. The 10-minute clip, which includes interview and backstage material, can be viewed below.
HIRAX will release its long-awaited new studio album, "El Rostro de la Muerte" ("The Face of Death"), on October 6. It is the veteran thrash band's first full-length since 2004's "The New Age Of Terror".
"El Rostro de la Muerte" is a dual-studio effort, combining the skills of two HIRAX producers which the band has worked with on their past three releases. The ten new tracks were recorded and engineered by John Haddad at Trench Studio in Corona, California, and mixed by Michael Rosen at Speed Semen Clove Factory in North Hollywood. The new CD will also contain one bonus track from the "Chaos and Brutality" EP, which was previously unavailable in the U.S.
"The combination of Haddad and Rosen's recording and production are perfect for the vision that we had for the sound of this album," said Katon W. De Pena. "We worked with Haddad on the last two HIRAX EPs, 'Assassins of War' and 'Chaos and Brutality'. He has a great understanding of the power and speed of HIRAX, and he knows how to bring the best of our talents to the surface. We have a lot of respect for him. HIRAX first worked with Michael Rosen back in 2004 on 'The New Age of Terror' album and it's great to be working with him again. His experience in mixing and production are what we need to complete the mega-epic sound that we are striving for. It's the first time HIRAX has ever brought two of our producers together, but it seemed like the logical thing to do since they both have an ear for detail and a certain work ethic which brings out the best in the band. Musically, it combines everything that HIRAX is known for and much, much more! TRUE THRASH METAL!!"
"El Rostro de la Muerte" will be released on Black Devil Records and Deep Six Records and will be distributed through CMDistro.com. It will be pressed in CD and vinyl formats as well as a limited-edition picture disc.
The HIRAX title "Not Dead Yet" (the band's two classic thrash metal albums "Raging Violence" and "Hate Fear And Power" together) is now available digitally through iTunes, along with "Thrash and Destroy", "Assassins of War", "The New Age of Terror", and "Barrage of Noise". The band plans to release make more of their extensive back catalog digitally by the end of the year.

ANVIL To Perform On 'The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien'
- Sep. 10, 2009
Canadian metal legends ANVIL — whose rock-doc "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" has certainly been the most feel-good, comeback stories of recent times — will make their late-night performance debut on "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" on Tuesday, October 6. "The Tonight Show" performance is in support of the re-release of the band's new album, "This is Thirteen", which hits stores on Tuesday, September 15, and the "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" DVD, set for an October 6 release.
For this auspicious occasion, ANVIL — guitarist/vocalist Steve "Lips" Kudlow, drummer Robb Reiner, and bassist Glenn Five — will perform the song that many consider their anthem, "Metal On Metal", which is included as a bonus track on the "This is Thirteen" limited-edition vinyl. The band members will also get a little couch time with O'Brien.
"I am so nervous about doing the show," said Lips. "This is big, the biggest thing we have ever done on TV. I almost cried when my mom said she might not be able to stay up that late to watch it, so we're going to tape it for her. We can't wait to meet Conan, and I think Robb is pretty excited to meet Max Weinberg."
ANVIL's re-release of "This is Thirteen" is available for streaming its entirety at VH1.com. The collectible double vinyl LP also boasts a newly re-recorded version of ANVIL classic "666". The album, originally recorded in 2007 and produced by Chris Tsangarides (JUDAS PRIEST, THIN LIZZY), was primarily available directly from the band via their web site and at their concerts.
ANVIL will take part in an in-store performance and signing session at Vintage Vinyl in Fords, New Jersey on September 27 at 2:00 p.m. A free screening of "Anvil! The Story Of Anvil" will take place at Vintage Vinyl on September 25 at 7:00 p.m.
ANVIL is considered a major influence for a generation of hard rockers, including METALLICA, SLAYER, ANTHRAX, and GUNS N' ROSES.

GUNS N' ROSES Guitarist RICHARD FORTUS Hosting 'Sumosonic'
- Sep. 10, 2009
According to Adweek, GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Richard Fortus is hosting "Sumosonic", a terrestrial radio program launched by young-male destination Heavy.com. The show features interviews and tracks from new artists.
Heavy is making the show available on its web site, which drew 1.9 million U.S. visitors in July, according to Nielsen Online. It has also struck a deal with radio programming distributor Team Clermont that will enable the show to reach millions more by airing on 900 college and independent radio stations.
"It's great reach," said Simon Assad, co-CEO of Heavy. "It's nice for us as a digital brand to go into the offline space. It's the right target market. It felt like a good idea for us."
"Sumosonic" existed on Heavy as a playlist of new music, which the site also distributed via CDs. The company decided to relaunch the feature as more of a traditional radio show with a host and interviews. Beginning in January, it will be available on Heavy's site through a new streaming music player, according to Assad.

THE JOE PERRY PROJECT Schedules Hollywood Date
- Sep. 10, 2009
AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry's solo band, dubbed THE JOE PERRY PROJECT, will perform at the Viper Room in West Hollywood, California on October 6. More dates will be announced soon.
Perry's fifth solo album, "Have Guitar, Will Travel", will be released on October 6 via Roman Records. The hard driving, ten-song, in your face, collection features Perry's trademark rock and blues ferocity, as well as the CD's first single, the blazing "We've Got A Long Way To Go", set for release later this summer. Recorded this past spring at the BoneYard, Perry's state-of-the-art home studio, where AEROSMITH's "Honkin' On Bobo" and "Just Push Play" were recorded, "Have Guitar, Will Travel" is entirely written and produced by Perry.
Still as scorching hot on guitar as he is preternaturally cool in his persona, "Have Guitar, Will Travel" is a departure for Perry in that the CD was conceived as a band recording. From start to finish it took only forty-seven days to complete. "Making this record in such a short period of time gave us a chance to capture an energy and flow that was very different from the last record," said Perry. "The way the players came together at a time when I had the music and lyrics in my head ready to go was pure synchronicity. The last record rocked, but this one rocks and then some. I'm really proud of it.
"We've Got A Long Way To Go", the CDs first single, showcases the voice of a young German singer known as Hagen, found completely by chance on YouTube by Joe's wife Billie. "I first called him from Cleveland when I went to perform at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame jam with Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Ron Wood, Flea and METALLICA," said Perry. "It took several minutes to convince him that it wasn't a prank call, but a true invitation to audition to sing on the CD." Hagen mans the microphone for five tracks, while Perry sings lead on four. The remaining tenth song is an instrumental entitled "Wooden Ships".
In addition, Perry attracted an esteemed roster of some of the best players that the music world has to offer; bassist David Hull, who played with THE BUDDY MILES BAND at 19 and was in THE JOE PERRY PROJECT in the '80s, drummer Ben Tileston, a Boston University percussion graduate, who plays drums with two of Perry's sons in TAB THE BAND, Paul Santo, who's played Hammond organ/pipe organ with the likes of Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton and Ozzy Osbourne, drummers Scott Meeder and Marty Richards and Willie "Loco" Alexander, Boston's "Godfather of Punk," who was part of the Bostown sound of the band THE BAGATELLE.
A six-week Twitter search was conducted to find the CDs title. The winner, out of nearly 2000 entries, was Joe Piscitelli, who used a play on the old CBS television program "Have Gun – Will Travel".
The release of "Have Guitar, Will Travel" follows self-produced solo releases including "Let The Music Do The Talking" (1980), "Once A Rocker, Always A Rocker" (1983), "I've Got The Rock 'N' Rolls Again" (1981) and 2005's "Joe Perry", which received universal critical praise and earned Perry his first solo Grammy nomination for "Best Instrumental Song" ("Mercy").
Perry is planning a "short, fast, hard tour" with THE JOE PERRY PROJECT.

SCOTT WEILAND, DAVE MUSTAINE Talk Rock Fashion At 'Weiland For English Laundry' Launch Party
- Sep. 10, 2009
Rockerrazzi.com conducted interviews with STONE TEMPLE PILOTS/ex-VELVET REVOLVER singer Scott Weiland and MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine last night (Wednesday, September 9) at the Roxy in West Hollywood, California at the launch party for Scott's new men's clothing line, Weiland for English Laundry. Check out the clips below. (Note: Since this story was first published, the original version of the Mustaine clip, in which the interviewer apparently mistook Dave for a member of ALICE IN CHAINS, has been re-edited to exclude the embarrassing portion of the interview.) The event featured a sexy all-female model fashion show for Weiland's new line of menswear. 944 magazine and Jägermeister were the presenting sponsors and JVC Mobile Entertainment was a supporting sponsor for this red-carpet fashion and music event at the legendary Sunset Strip venue.
Weiland for English Laundry, a collaboration with English Laundry designer Christopher Wicks, debuted at the MAGIC trade show August 31-September 2. The collection features rock-inspired wovens, vests, t-shirts, pants, hats, ties and scarves. Weiland for English Laundry blends the classic style and high quality of English Laundry with the design flare of the iconic, fashionable STP frontman.
"From early on, I was inspired by rock icons like David Bowie and Keith Richards who helped in molding my personal sense of style," said Weiland.

SEPTICFLESH Hard At Work On New Material
- Sep. 10, 2009
Greek extreme metallers SEPTICFLESH have issued the following update:
"We are extremely pleased to announce the union of two forces for our future endeavors as a band.
"We've joined forces with The Agency Group (DIMMU BORGIR, LAMB OF GOD, BEHEMOTH, CANNIBAL CORPSE) for North American booking and Hard Impact Management (KATAKLYSM, ARSIS, BLACKGUARD) for worldwide management. The band is also hard at work composing the new songs and ideas that will eventually end up on the follow-up to the album 'Communion'. The plan is to go back to the studio with Fredrik Nordström at Fredman Studio next summer and also work with the Filmharmonic Orchestra of Prague. Tentative release is fall of 2010."
HardTimes.ca has uploaded an interview with SEPTICFLESH drummer Fotis Benardo when the band played in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on January 17, 2009. Watch the 17-minute chat below.
SEPTICFLESH's "comeback" album, "Communion", was released in March 2008 via Season of Mist. According to a press release, "Communion" "contains nine gates to unearthly dreams and nightmares. The 'rituals' of 'Communion' took place in the famous Studio Fredman in Sweden. The massive heavy guitar sound of the album is supported by a haunting triumphant orchestration that surpasses every past attempt of the band on that field. The classical arrangements are composed and directed by Chris Antoniou (guitar) and performed by the 80-piece full orchestra and 32-piece choir of philharmonic orchestra of Prague. As a result the music besides being brutal is also very 'visual,' like the soundtrack of an occult movie projected straight to your mind. Concerning the vocals, Seth is growling as a hellish beast in contrast with the melodic, yet intense and emotive vocals of Sotiris V. This album is definitely the more dark, brutal and at the same time avant-garde release of the band to date, crossing the borders of death and black metal. Yes, this album is not recommended to people resonating with holy ideals and bright emotions."
Damian of the unofficial BLACK SABBATH web site Black-Sabbath.com shot some behind-the-scenes footage of HEAVEN & HELL's equipment set-up at the final date of the band's North American tour on August 29 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Watch the clip below.
The management for HEAVEN & HELL vocalist Ronnie James Dio released a statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET on August 27 in an attempt to "quash any rumors that [the group] have broken up." The statement read in part, "[HEAVEN & HELL guitarist] Tony Iommi has to have surgery on his hand and [needs] some down time for recovery. Therefore DIO [the band] will be performing some dates in the U.K. and Europe in November/December during this time off. HEAVEN & HELL are already making plans for dates next year."
In a recent interview with The Aquarian Weekly, Iommi stated about his upcoming surgery, "I've got to have an operation on my hand, and that's sort of a major thing I need to get done and I've been putting it off now. So we're going to have some time off while I get that done. That'll be a bit of a break, I think. Not for everybody, but it'll be some time off from touring for me for sure."
When asked what happened to his hand, Iommi replied, "The cartilage is gone from the thumb in my fingering hand. It's been like that now, to be honest, for a year and I've been taking anti-inflammatories and all sorts of stuff to try and calm it down, but it's inevitable I've got to have the operation because the bone is rubbing on the bone. Funny enough, I talked to Eddie Van Halen this morning, because he's had the same sort of problem, so I'm seeing him to have a chat about what happened to him. He thinks it's very successful, so we'll see."

ARCH ENEMY: 'The Root Of All Evil' Trailer Available
- Sep. 10, 2009
Swedish/German extreme metallers ARCH ENEMY will release a new album, "The Root Of All Evil", on September 28 in Europe and October 6 in North America via Century Media Records. This special collection features re-recorded versions of songs from the band's first three LPs — "Black Earth" (1996), "Stigmata" (1998) and "Burning Bridges" (1999). Acclaimed British producer Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, TESTAMENT, EXODUS) mixed and mastered the CD, which was recorded at a few different locations in Sweden and produced by ARCH ENEMY with Daniel Erlandsson and Rickard Bengtsson handling the engineering.
Check out a trailer for the release below.
The details for the album's limited-edition CD were recently revealed: Apart from a very special "mediabook" packaging, it features three additional live bonus tracks, alternate artwork, an extended booklet and an exclusive patch as additional gimmick!
Here is the track listing for the limited-edition "mediabook" CD version:
01. The Root Of All Evil (intro) 02. Beast Of Man 03. The Immortal 04. Diva Satanica 05. Demonic Science 06. Bury Me An Angel 07. Dead Inside 08. Dark Insanity 09. Pilgrim 10. Demoniality (instrumental) 11. Transmigration Macabre 12. Silverwing 13. Bridge Of Destiny
Bonus tracks:
14. Bury Me An Angel (live) 15. The Immortal (live) 16. Bridge Of Destiny (live)
"The Root Of All Evil" will also be available as regular CD, digital download as well as in LP format (with the full album on CD as bonus).
The song "Beast Of Man" is available for streaming at this location.
Commented guitarist Michael Amott: "The song 'Beast Of Man' was originally written as a last-minute addition to the 'Stigmata' album back in 1998. Daniel (Erlandsson) had just returned to the ARCH ENEMY drum throne and I wrote this one and another song called 'Diva Satanica' in a day or two. Christopher (Amott) had the cool harmonized mid-section part and that was that, we went into the studio and rehearsed, recorded and mixed them in a marathon 24-hour session. It was OK at the time, but I always thought the songs deserved a little more love and attention.
"The 2009 version of this song is really heads and shoulders above the original, in my opinion. The song was always cool, but the production on the original was quite poor; more like a demo, really.
"I am very pleased that we did this 'The Root Of All Evil' project and that we can give these songs a 'new life.'"
Check out the cover artwork below (by Brazilian artist Gustavo Sazes).
ARCH ENEMY has confirmed a European headlining run with support from DESTRUCTION, ABIGAIL WILLIAMS and TRIOSPHERE. The trek will kick off in December.

Former QUIET RIOT Bassist Launches RANDY RHOADS Tribute Site
- Sep. 10, 2009
Bassist Kelly Garni, who was one of the founding members of QUIET RIOT, has launched a new social networking site, dubbed the RR Network, for fans of late OZZY OSBOURNE/QUIET RIOT guitarist Randy Rhoads. In 1982, Rhoads, the then-lead guitarist for OZZY OSBOURNE, and two others were killed at Flying Baron Estates, just outside Leesburg, Florida, when their small plane struck Osbourne's tour bus, then crashed into a mansion.
