KRALLICE Completes Work On New Album
- Sep. 8, 2009
Brooklyn, New York metallers KRALLICE have completed work on their new album, "Dimensional Bleedthrough", for a November 10 release via Profound Lore Records.
Featuring guitar wizard Mick Barr (OCRILIM, ORTHRELM) and New York's new renaissance/man-of-all-trades within the underground metal scene Colin Marston (DYSRHYTHMIA, GORGUTS, BEHOLD… THE ARCTOPUS) and now rounded as a full lineup with drummer Lev Weinstein (BLOODY PANDA) and bass player Nick McMaster (ASTOMATOUS), KRALLICE has created an album that goes much beyond the band's eponymous debut and has taken its hypnotizing progressive blackgaze into more transcendental and epic territory.
Like the debut times ten, "Dimensional Bleedthrough" is a more intense and much more involved album with its myriad of insane counterpoint and guitar acrobatics throughout its 77-minute discourse. Whereas in the beginning KRALLICE was seen as the "black metal band of Mick Barr and Colin Marston" (for the record, they don't really consider KRALLICE black metal), "Dimensional Bleedthrough" sees a more complete band feeling courtesy of the rhythm section provided by Weinstein and McMaster (who also does vocals on the new album) and has helped intensify the KRALLICE sound, one in which they have now defined as their own by converging the styles and influences from all said band members' respective repertoires.
Still the black/death metal influence is inherent in KRALLICE's massive sound canvas, along with influences that range from such acts as VOIVOD along with the inherent familiar traits that can be heard from all members' other musical projects.
"Dimensional Bleedthrough" track listing:
01. Dimensional Bleedthrough 02. Autocthon 03. Aridity 04. The Mountain 05. Intraum 06. Untitled 07. Monolith Of Possession
The song "Dimensional Bleedthrough" can be streamed using the audio player below.
Wednesday 13 has confirmed the touring lineup for his latest project, GUNFIRE 76. Joining the MURDERDOLLS frontman will be Roman Surman (guitar), Dave Musselman (guitar, formerly of JET BLACK STARE), Scott Whalen (bass player, also of ECONOLINE CRUSH) and Rob Hammersmith (drums, current member of ROCKETS TO RUIN).
"I'm really looking forward to getting out on the road with these guys and seeing how we all bring this music to life live," said Wednesday.
Audio samples of all the tracks that are set to appear on GUNFIRE 76's debut labum, "Casualties & Tragedies", are available for streaming on Amazon.com.
"Casualties & Tragedies" was recorded at a studio in Charlotte, North Carolina and is scheduled for an October 6 release via Wednesday 13 LLC.
"Casualties & Tragedies" track listing:
01. Casualties & Tragedies 02. Nothings All I Need 03. Rocket To Nowhere 04. Something For The Suffering 05. What Did You Expect? 06. Tell You Like It Is 07. Los Angel-Less 08. One More Reason To Hate You 09. Get Me Through The Night 10. Back To The Gutter 11. Let's Kill The Hero
"Casualties & Tragedies" was mixed by Brent Clawson, who is best known as the bassist for BULLETS AND OCTANE. Brent has produced, mixed and engineered "Dirty Angel" from Nick Oliveri's band THE KNIVES; engineered and mixed GUTTERMOUTH's "Eat Your Face"; and produced, engineered and mixed the last two CDs from BULLETS AND OCTANE — "Song For The Underdog" and "Bullets and Octane" — which are being re-released as a double-CD this October.
Although GUNFIRE 76's debut album was originally set to be recorded in Los Angeles with producer Howard Willing, setbacks and conflicting schedules resulted in a change of plans.
According to a press release, the album — which features material written by Wednesday and Todd Youth (DANZIG, D-GENERATION, THE CHELSEA SMILES) — has "more of a rock sound."
"GUNFIRE 76 will be my extension into the rock world," said Wednesday. "After touring with THE CHELSEA SMILES, Todd Youth and I would find ourselves discussing the bands we grew up on and decided to put a band together that fits more of the rock and roll sound of KISS, DEAD BOYS, NEW YORK DOLLS, THE STOOGES and the in-your-face rock n roll sound. Not being signed to a record label allows me to create new projects and continue growing as an artist."
GUNFIRE 76 will spend November touring the U.S. and December touring the U.K., with BULLETS AND OCTANE acting as main support.

RAMMSTEIN: New Album Title, Artwork Revealed
- Sep. 8, 2009
RAMMSTEIN, the Berlin, Germany-based industrial metal sextet well known for its controversial and fiery live performances, has set "Liebe Ist Für Alle Da" as the title of its new album, due in the U.S. on October 20 via Vagrant Records (October 16 in Germany). The CD artwork can be viewed below. The band's first new album in four years contains 11 songs which were once again mixed and mastered by Jacob Hellner in Stockholm, Sweden. Pre-production for the new release was done at Castle Beerenstedt in eastern Germany's Halle/Saale while the bulk of the recording was done in late 2008 at Northern California's Sonoma Mountain Studio.
"Liebe Ist Für Alle Da" track listing:
01. Rammlied 02. Ich Tu Dir Weh 03. Waidmann's Heil 04. Haifisch 05. B****** 06. Fruehling In Paris 07. Weiner Blut 08. Pussy 09. Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da 10. Mehr 11. Roter Sand
U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine has posted a complete track-by-track guide to the new RAMMSTEIN album.
RAMMSTEIN will release a new single, "Pussy", on September 18. It will be made available a two-song digipack, also featuring the track "Rammlied" as the B-side. A video for "Pussy" was recently shot with renowned Swedish director Jonas Åkerlund, who has previously worked with METALLICA, SATYRICON, MADONNA and THE PRODIGY, among others.
RAMMSTEIN's last tour through the U.S. was in 2001 in support of "Mutter", and as they continued to sonically and visually explore societal and sexual taboos, RAMMSTEIN has found themselves embroiled in further controversies both here and abroad throughout the last decade.
RAMMSTEIN retains an aura of mystery due in part to their ambiguous lyrics (sung almost entirely in German) while their chart-topping releases and sold-out worldwide tours prove that fans can't get enough of this enigmatic group.

EVENTIDE: In Recording Mode
- Sep. 8, 2009
Swedish metallers EVENTIDE have entered the studio to begin recording their sophomore full-length album, tentatively due next year. The band states, "Finally, after little over a month, the drums are recorded! The process is extremely slow as we only have time to record a couple of hours each week. The album will contain 13 songs and we'll hopefully start recording bass and guitars in a couple of weeks!"
EVENTIDE released a promotional CD last year entitled "Planet Plague". The effort contains four tracks and was made available for free on the band's web site and MySpace page.
EVENTIDE's debut album, "Diaries from the Gallows", was released in October 2006 via Cartel Media. The CD was recorded at Los Angered studios in Gothenburg, Sweden.
"Evangelion", the latest album from Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH, has now spent four weeks on the official chart in the band's home country, coming in at the #1 spot three weeks in a row after debuting at #2, just behind MICHAEL JACKSON.
Guitarist/vocalist Adam "Nergal" Darski comments; "It's unheard of. 'Evangelion' is storming the charts in Poland and we've been three weeks in row number-one-selling record in our home country. How insane is that? If someone had told me this few months ago, I would have never believed that this conservative country can embrace us so much. Things are changing. And it feels good. I'm grateful and happy that people dig this record so much… Again, I want to thank everyone who picked up his copy of 'Evangelion'. It means a lot!"
A photo of a massive BEHEMOTH banner which was hung up at Empik Megastore, Poland's version of Borders, can be viewed below.
#56 The Billboard 200 #5 Billboard Hard Music Albums #6 Billboard Independent Albums
Canada:
#61 Top 200 Current Albums #6 Independent Chart #10 Hard Music Chart
In a recent interview with Decibel magazine, Darski and BEHEMOTH bassist Tomasz Wróblewski (a.k.a. Orion) both admitted that they have given serious consideration to moving away from Poland. "The more places we see, the less connected we feel with the place we live in," Wróblewski said. "All of them seem more attractive than Poland. But you get used to a place where you live, and it's kind of hard to move. But it's possible, yes."
"I'm always thinking about it," Darski admitted. "I was just in New York for a few days, and I was thinking about it then. I mean, I'm rooted here, right? I've got my family here; I've got a nice apartment; I've got a few friends. And I was born here. But I would have no problems to live my life a few months in Poland and maybe a few months somewhere else. If one day I fall in love in Portugal or Brazil, I'm not gonna think twice. I'll buy an apartment in one of those countries and just move there and try to live a normal life."
Darski continued, "I can't understand why people come to Poland and say, 'Oh, this country is so nice and the people are so cool.' I tell them, 'No — these people are not cool. It's just a façade. They just pretend. Deep in their hearts, they are evil human beings.' You see, people in this country are very backward-thinking and very conservative. People who don't grow up here don't know the reality, and they will never find out."
When Decibel asked Darski if there was anything about BEHEMOTH that was uniquely Polish, he didn't miss a beat. "I seriously hope not," he said. "I really believe that our work ethic is very not Polish. Our determination is not Polish. And our music doesn't even sound Polish. When people say there is something like a Polish death metal sound, I am already starting to get nervous. People compare us to other Polish bands and put us in the same category, but no, I don't think so. We don't have much to do with this country. Don't get me wrong — there is massive potential in the people in this country. There is something like 38 million people living here, and we have some really cool history, but it looks like we're just stuck with this very narrow-minded, very backwards, conservative thinking. And it doesn't allow us to move on and improve."
Wróblewski agreed with Darski's assessment wholeheartedly. "We're not trying to represent the country," he confirmed. "We're just representing our music. There's nothing like nationalism or anything connected with the place we live in this music. So, 'I hope not' is a good answer."

SAHG At Norway's HOLE IN THE SKY Festival; Video Available
- Sep. 8, 2009
SAHG, the Norwegian heavy rockers who feature in their ranks current/former members of GORGOROTH, MANNGARD and AUDREY HORNE, played their forthcoming third album in its entirety when they kicked off this year's Hole In The Sky festival on August 25 at Garage in Bergen, Norway.
Fan-filmed video footage of the band's performance can be viewed below (courtesy of "OndeOrm").
SAHG's new CD will be released via the band's new label, Indie Recordings.
Regarding the group's collaboration with Indie, vocalist/guitarist Olav Iversen previously said, "The best thing about Indie is that they are passionate about what they do. They really care more about the music than the money, unlike most others in this business. That was crucial for our decision. Indie has been in close relation to SAHG and given very valuable support since day one. So signing with Indie Recordings seems like the most natural thing in the universe. Indie made a very good effort handling distribution and promotion for both our previous albums in Norway. And they have always been very supportive towards where we have been going musically. Being based in the same country, we have at times had a closer connection to Indie than to our previous label, Sweden-based Regain Records. We want to work with a record company that is genuinely interested in what we do, and we believe that Indie Recordings is such a record company. We believe this is the right place for SAHG to develop further and keep on expressing what we want musically."
SAHG is:
Olav Iversen - Vocals/Guitar King - Bass Thomas Tofthagen - Guitar Thomas Lønnheim - Drums
SAHG's sophomore album, "Sahg II", was released on March 18, 2008 via Regain Records.

HIM, KREATOR, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, DIMMU BORGIR Members Featured In 'Promised Land' Documentary
- Sep. 8, 2009
Members of HIM, NORTHER, KREATOR, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, ENTOMBED, CARCASS, KORPIKLAANI, DIMMU BORGIR and SONATA ARCTICA are among the musicians who were interviewed for "Promised Land of Heavy Metal", a documentary about the history and philosophy of heavy metal and how it became such a big deal in a small country called Finland.
The filmmakers tell the story of Finnish metal, from its early "underground" days to the present success stories, by interviewing famous musicians, experts and event organizers, a psychiatrist and a doctor of theology. The film takes the viewers literally from the graveyard to the Finnish President's palace!
Why is metal a religion for so many? What are its links to Satanism and ritualistic murders? What made metal mainstream in Finland? Why does the Finnish church have metal masses? What is the future of metal, after LORDI won the Eurovision Song Contest and even the President approves? Strong opinions are offered: some see metal as the new folk music, while others detest its commercial aspect.
The film is narrated by Kimmo Kuusniemi, a filmmaker, SARCOFAGUS guitarist and a forefather of Finnish metal. Kimmo has lived in England for 16 years, and sees the current popularity of heavy metal as a strange phenomenon.
The "Promised Land of Heavy Metal" TV documentary was developed by producer Sakari Heiskanen from YLE (The Finnish Broadcasting Company).
A four-minute trailer for "Promised Land of Heavy Metal" can be viewed below.

SYMPHONY X Bassist To Guest On New RIVERA BOMMA Album
- Sep. 8, 2009
SYMPHONY X bassist Michael LePond has recorded a guest appearance on several tracks on the upcoming third release from RIVERA BOMMA, the New Jersey-based Christian hard rock band featuring guitarist Rod Rivera and vocalist/keyboardist John Bomma. Entitled "Angels & Demons", the CD will be made available on Retroactive Records in late 2009 or early 2010.
Commented RIVERA BOMMA: "Listening just to the backbone of these music give us the chills. Can't wait for the world to hear it!"
According to the band's official bio, RIVERA BOMMA plays a mixture of traditional hard rock and melodic American power metal — at times a hint progressive, due to the presence of majestic, but subtle keyboards. Rod and John have written some epic anthems which they perform over pulsating rhythms, revealing the influences of their 70s heroes, such as DEEP PURPLE and RAINBOW. The power and range of John Bomma's voice is indeed comparable to an Ian Gillan or Ronnie James Dio, whilst Rod Rivera Is a guitar virtuoso parallel to Ritchie Blackmore or Michael Schenker, occasionally also shredding Malmsteen-style, as well as playing some dazzling Latin Flamenco guitar."
DOUBLE DRAGON To Support SLAYER, MEGADETH In Australia
- Sep. 8, 2009
DOUBLE DRAGON will support SLAYER and MEGADETH on all dates on their joint Australian tour in October.
Commented DOUBLE DRAGON singer Lee Gardiner: "This is beyond our wildest dreams. Considering that Adelaide [DOUBLE DRAGON's hometown] is one of the smallest populated cities of Australia, this support tour shows us that if you put in the hard work, doesn't matter where you're from, you can make things happen"
Following the tour, DOUBLE DRAGON will hit the studio to record the follow-up to 2008's "Devastator" for an early 2010 release. An Australian tour with CHIMAIRA will take place in January.
DIMMU BORGIR: New Album 'Will Sound Absolutely Massive And Heavy, Dark And Epic!'
- Sep. 8, 2009
Norwegian symphonic black metallers DIMMU BORGIR have issued the following update:
"We're more than halfway into [the songwriting process for DIMMU BORGIR's new album] at this point and to say we're excited about this material would be an understatement! There will be an orchestra and a choir which we still have to pick out, but judging from what we have so far and what is brewing, it's going to sound absolutely massive and heavy, dark and epic!"
Several photos from the songwriting sessions for the new DIMMU BORGIR album can be viewed below.
The remaining members of DIMMU BORGIR issued a statement on August 31 confirming keyboardist Mustis' (real name: Øyvind Mustaparta) and bassist/clean vocalist ICS Vortex's (real name: Simen Hestnæs) departures from the group. The statement also downplayed the impact the lineup changes will have on the sound of DIMMU BORGIR next album, insisting that "the creative force in the band is highly intact, perhaps even more so than ever."
Mustis issued a statement on August 30 claiming that his dismissal from DIMMU BORGIR was caused by his efforts to "address the fact that many songs written by me had not been registered properly under my name in their credits. Without naming every single track, let us just say that a good majority of albums like 'Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia' and 'In Sorte Diaobli' would have been vastly different had I not composed and created as much as I actually did," he said. "Sadly, based on terrible gaps in the communication process and a failure to find logical rationale for why this had been done this way found me hitting wall after wall as opposed to finding a professional and reasonable solution to the problem. My inquiries and investigation into the issues which I wished to resolve and move on from would in the end find me being fired from the group. No discussions about it, just 'goodbye' (via text message)."
Last year's "Blackest Of The Black" tour with DANZIG helped support DIMMU's latest DVD titled "The Invaluable Darkness", which debuted at No. 5 on the Top Music Videos chart in mid-October. It was also the band's last North American tour promoting their eighth studio album, "In Sorte Diaboli", which debuted on Billboard's Top Independent Albums chart at No. 2, and on The Billboard 200 chart at No. 43.

ALICE IN CHAINS Plays Private, Unplugged Show In Massachusetts
- Sep. 8, 2009
According to The Boston Globe, ALICE IN CHAINS set up yesterday at Bokx 109, the restaurant at Hotel Indigo in Newton, Massachusetts, and played a private, unplugged show for Uxbridge resident Rick Demrest and 30 friends. (The unconventional concert was arranged by WAAF.) The band also performed a "proper" show later in the day at the Paradise in Boston.
Michael Marotta of BostonHerald.com reported yesterday that prices on second-hand tickets for last night's sold-out ALICE IN CHAINS show at the Paradise ranged from $150 to $300 on online ticket reseller web sites — a steep mark-up from the $26 face value.
Last month, a Live Nation rep told BostonHerald.com that the show, despite selling out in a hurry, was never a candidate for a larger venue such as the House of Blues or the Orpheum, even though neither venue had a show last night.
Fan-filmed video footage of the Paradise performance can be viewed below.

METALLICA Members Talk About Burying Bodies In The Middle Of The Night
- Sep. 8, 2009
Jim Breuer, comedian, Sirius XM host and diehard METALLICA fan, sat down for a rare and hilarious interview with all the members of the legendary metal band for his weekly show on Sirius XM's Raw Dog comedy channel. The hour-long interview, taped before the band's performance at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on February 1, 2009, delved into rare subject matter and humorous hypotheticals, including which band member each would call to help hide a body and what government agencies they would assign to one another if METALLICA were its own country. The special also included a quiz portion where each member is quizzed on prices of common household products to determine how out of touch, if at all, they are from everyday life.
The second webisode featuring highlights from the interview contains the question: "Which band member would you call in the middle of the night to help you bury a body?"
***Note: Even though the above-mentioned interview was conducted back in February, and the audio version originally aired the same month, the video footage of this particular portion of the chat was not uploaded until today (September 8).***
"Fridays with Breuer" is an intimate show hosted by Jim Breuer, one of the county's most outrageous and beloved comedians. Breuer invites millions of Sirius XM listeners each week into his life and brain, sharing hilarious anecdotes about his adventures as a family man, doing impressions of his favorite performers, riffing on his colorful experiences from performing around the country, and discussing his beloved New York Mets, his favorite rock legends and more.

01. Prelude 02. Last Look at Eden 03. Gonna Get Ready 04. Catch that Plane 05. New Love in Town 06. The Beast 07. Mojito Girl 08. No Stone Unturned 09. Only Young Twice 10. U Devil U 11. Run With the Angels 12. In My Time
From the epic title track to the melodic ballad "New Love in Town", this album is on another level, less extreme than previous offering, 2006's "Secret Society", and with matured sound, "Last Look at Eden" is a mix of all the elements that have made EUROPE famous the world over.
Commented singer Joey Tempest: "This time we're taking a new direction with our songs, and we're exploring different styles. There is a definite classic rock vibe on several tracks on this album — a tip of the hat to groovin', funkin' '70s rock songs, with a modern twist."
He added: "We've got a couple of great ballads, plus some thundering rock tracks that will put you flat on your ass! We've taken the best bits from our recent albums and taken it to a new level 'Last Look at Eden' is more of a EUROPE album than 'Secret Society' or 'Start From The Dark'. We had to make those albums in order to do this."

MR. BIG released a new "best-of" album titled "Next Time Around" on April 29 through WHD Entertaiment. The collection includes songs that were voted on by fans and contains two previously unreleased songs, "Next Time Around" (2009 remastered version) and "Hold Your Head Up" (2009 remastered version). It was made available as a limited deluxe edition with a bonus DVD.
In an interview with BigMusicGeek.com, MR. BIG bassist Billy Sheehan stated about the band's decision to reunite, "One of the beginnings of that was when (guitarist) Paul (Gilbert) played on (my solo record) 'Holy Cow' on the song 'Dynamic Exhilarator'. It was the first time we had worked in a studio together since we had been in MR. BIG together. We jammed a zillion times and we hang out together a lot because we're both here in L.A., but we never actually thought about working together. When he came in to do the solo on 'Dynamic Exhilarator', we had a blast. It was awesome. He did a great, great solo. The first one is amazing and the second one somehow tops it (laughs). So after that, we had a little more organized jam here in L.A. when he played with his band. Richie Kotzen was there and Pat Torpey was there and we played a couple of MR. BIG songs. The crowd went out of their minds and we were like, 'The only thing that could top this is if (vocalist) Eric (Martin) was here.' So a couple of e-mails started floating back and forth and the next thing you know, we said, 'Well, let's get together and have dinner just to hang,' and right at that point, we just said, 'Yeah, let's just do it.. The good thing about it is that nobody dangled cash in front of us. It didn't come from outside of us. It wasn't where someone had an idea and said, 'Yeah, let's put your band back together. Let's put you on a bus somewhere for six months before you break up again.' So it actually came from us, from our desire to really want to play together again and how much we loved the band. It was self-generated and organic in that respect, so now it's going to happen again."

EVERGREEN TERRACE: New Song Available For Streaming
- Sep. 8, 2009
A new EVERGREEN TERRACE track, "Sending Signals", is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. The song comes off the Jacksonville, Florida band's new full-length album, "Almost Home", which is scheduled for release on September 29 via Metal Blade Records.
Continuing its blistering combination of melodic hardcore and metal, EVERGREEN TERRACE has gone back to its roots on "Almost Home". "I think this record will surprise the new listeners as well as have the old ones stoked," stated guitarist Josh James. " I'd say its best described as a good mixture of 'Burned Alive by Time' [2002] and 'Wolfbiker' [2007]."
Splitting the recording process of the album in half, the band tracked all the music at Martell Studios and all of the vocals at AudioHammer (AUGUST BURNS RED, BURY YOUR DEAD, TRIVIUM, etc.).
"We've always had a lot of pop culture references in our song titles and this record is no exception," said James. "Before we even started writing new songs, we already have a list of titles from books, movies, and comedians. Half of the song titles on this record are pulled from the lyrics. The others are pop culture references that relate to the lyrical content."
"Almost Home" track listing:
01. Enemy Sex 02. Almost Home (III) 03. God Rocky is This Your Face? 04. We're Always Losing Blood 05. Sending Signals 06. Mario Speedwagon 07. Failure to Operate 08. Hopelessly Hopeless 09. The Letdown 10. I'm a Bulletproof Tiger 11. Not Good Enough
With a new record coming out, EVERGREEN TERRACE has taken its album title into consideration and hit the road again. The band will be out on tour with EMMURE as part of the Hard Knock Life tour for the entire month of September, with dates running through September 29. Also on the bill are STICK TO YOUR GUNS, FOR TODAY, and OCEANO. The band will end the tour October 3 with a headlining CD-release show in Jacksonville with an all-star lineup, including THE CHARIOT, BURDEN OF A DAY, CASEY JONES, THICK AS BLOOD and HELLO DANGER.
HardTimes.ca conducted an interview with EVERGREEN TERRACE when the band played in South Burlington, Vermont on July 29, 2009. Watch the 15-minute chat below.
DEAD BY SUNRISE: 'Crawl Back In' Video Released
- Sep. 8, 2009
"Crawl Back In", the new video from LINKIN PARK singer Chester Bennington's side project, DEAD BY SUNRISE, can be viewed below. The clip was directed by P.R. Brown, who has previously worked with SLIPKNOT, MÖTLEY CRÜE, KORN, GODSMACK and AVENGED SEVENFOLD, among others.
"Crawl Back In" comes off DEAD BY SUNRISE's debut album, "Out Of Ashes", which is scheduled for release on October 13.
The track listing for the CD is as follows:
01. Fire 02. Crawl Back In 03. Too Late 04. Inside Of Me 05. Let Down 06. Give Me Your Name 07. My Suffering 08. Condemned 09. Into You 10. End Of The World 11. Walking In Circles 12. In The Darkness
Bennington began working on DEAD BY SUNRISE back in 2006, explaining, "I came up with a few songs that felt and sounded really good, but I knew they weren't right stylistically for LINKIN PARK. They were darker and moodier than anything I'd come up with for the band. So I decided to work on them on my own rather than turn them over and have them transformed into LINKIN PARK tracks."
The band, which is Bennington on vocals, guitarists Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh (from ORGY/JULIEN-K), bassist Brandon Belsky, drummer Elias Anda (also from JULIEN-K), and keyboardist Anthony Valcic, recorded "Out Of Ashes" in Los Angeles with producer Howard Benson (MOTÖRHEAD, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE).

Ex-KORN Guitarist: God Told Me To Go To 50 CENT And Write A Letter To Him
- Sep. 8, 2009
Jourdaine Middleton of Examiner.com conducted an interview with former KORN guitarist Brian "Head" Welch on August 29 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada when Head played a free show with FLYLEAF, BLINDSIDE, and METAL MULISHA. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Examiner.com: How did you make the transition from lead guitarist to solo artist?
Brian: When I quit KORN, it was just like, it felt like I needed to do it. It was a dream inside of me, you know? Not for a long time or nothing, I just felt like when I changed my life, I was all "I need to go solo and do my own stuff and talk about things I'm into." I just really went for it, like right afterwards. This is like, we just started, so this is the biggest show we've done so far. [laughs] It's fun.
Examiner.com: Now that you've been on your own for the past few years, how has your songwriting evolved?
Brian: I don't know. I'm writing the next record, like, in the next couple months. I haven't wrote anything.
Examiner.com: Like, as opposed to when you were with KORN, and how you are now. How has your songwriting evolved from there?
Brian: Oh! Well, I don't shove, like, twenty beers down my throat, now. Well, before, we'd all get in a room, drink beer, stuff like that, play guitars, and just jam it up and come up with some parts in new songs. But now I write all of my songs. I see all the chords, I hear all the melodies in my head, and I go to a computer and get a keyboard, and I write it on my Macintosh just to get a rough idea of a demo. So that's how I do it. But I may try to write with these guys [the band], a couple of songs for the next record.
Examiner.com: From your album, I wanted to talk about a few songs, more in depth, basically. For "Die, Religion, Die", it seems to oppose the man-made religious doctrine. The sound of the lyrics in the verse seem to speak from the perspective of God or Jesus, with lines like, "You put my name to shame, I'm everything you're not. I give them love, My ways you have forgot." What's the story behind that song?
Brian: I was a younger Christian when I wrote it, but I felt like I had some religious experience with man-made control, and stuff. Like, you need to be in church, and you can't talk to other people in other churches, and I didn't like that. I was new but I was like, "Isn't this supposed to be, everyone's a family and one?" I just didn't like it and I wrote it out of a bitter spirit, you know? I felt if God was saying that stuff, that He'd just want to shake people in love, you know, like a parent shakes a kid. [laughs] It'd be like, "Just kill all this stuff. Just concentrate on love and working together." Just like I said up there, religion's about trying to be good enough for God. What it's supposed to be is your relationship.
Examiner.com: "Washed by Blood" isn't really candy-coated, it's very direct. That has very personal lyrics which, in so many words, illustrates your finding Jesus and leaving the life that you had. Tell me about that song more in-depth. What do you hope a listener will get out of that song?
Brian: You know, "Washed by Blood" was pretty much what I felt Jesus was saying to me when I got saved. I was just, like, coming out of it and I felt His presence and all of that. I felt like He was saying all of that stuff to me. "You're washed by blood from deep inside. You're not a prisoner no more of your old life." Just, washing away all of the pain and me not having to do nothing, except accept it. It was really personal to me and I, when people sing about personal experiences like that, and people... it could sound like, I'm speaking to other people for God, too. I don't know, I just hope that it brings the presence of God to people and that they could feel washed, too. That would be my ultimate dream.
Examiner.com: How does God use you on stage?
Brian: Hopefully He just uses me like He did Paul. You know, Paul in the Bible [who dealt with people who were] impersonating Christians. Like, the nastiest of the nastiest, I feel like I was. Just like we all do, but I feel like He uses me to show everybody how graceful and merciful and how cool [He is]. I want to get to people, it's like, God is so real. You don't gotta be good, it's not like we're trying to be good, because we're so bad before. God is real and wanting to live through us. That's what I hope He's doing for me, 'cause I don't want people to think that I'm trying to be good because I was heavily doing drugs. It's not that, it's just, Christ, I want to love Him and that's it.
Examiner.com: I heard that you began an orphanage out in India. What inspired you to start that?
Brian: When I read a scripture, I was so strung out on drugs. Like coming off of them, you know? It was like, I saw scripture and be, like... I'd go run and try to do it, and feed the poor. I was like, "I'm going to India to feed the poor!" You know, leave everything. I sold my house and we left town. [laughs] Like, I was going crazy, but it was funny because I was showing God that I wasn't afraid to obey. It was wacky, but it was still fun. I felt like He told me to go to 50 Cent and write a letter to him, and tell him Jesus wants to save him, too. I was like, "Alright, God!" and I went and found his jeweler. I bought some diamonds off of him and I gave him a note and he was like, "I'm gonna go see 50 in, like, three days." 'Cause they're developing a business. I go, "Give him this note." It was a long letter saying Jesus wants to save him. [laughs]
VOMITORY: Rotterdam Footage Available
- Sep. 8, 2009
Video footage of VOMITORY's September 6, 2009 performance at Baroeg in Rotterdam, Holland can be viewed at this location (courtesy of "letthedeathmetalflow"). A couple of the clips are available below.
VOMITORY's seventh album, "Carnage Euphoria", was released in May via Metal Blade Records.
To celebrate VOMITORY's 20th anniversary, a limited first edition of "Carnage Euphoria" was made available with a 90-minute bonus DVD. Titled "Dead & Drunk For 20 Years", the disc contains footage spanning the band's entire career — from the very first VOMITORY show in 1990 to shows in 2008. Also featured was one previously unreleased song, "Putrefaction", performed live in 1990, live clips from different shows during the '90s with different lineups and drunk moments on the road and in the studio.
Commented drummer Tobias Gustafsson: "'Carnage Euphoria' was a bit harder album to record than our predecessor, but damn, it was worth it! We are ridiculously happy with how the album turned out in the end! Engineer/producer Rikard Löfgren of Leon Music Studios did once again a killer job to get what we wanted for this album, and then some. Compared to our previous albums, 'Carnage Euphoria' is a lot wider, warmer and more natural sounding-wise. But still, 'Carnage Euphoria' runs you over like a steamroller, just as expected. The true VOMITORY elements are all in there, but there are also some more mid-paced groovy stuff that adds diversity to this album like never before. Even some ore melodic hooks that won't go unnoticed. Songs like 'The Ravenous Dead' and 'Great Deceiver' add fresh slices of flesh to the VOMITORY slab, while 'Rage Of Honour' and 'Possessed' are rotting chunks of the relentless death metal VOMITORY is known for."
