METALLICA's Ottawa Concert Raises $8,000 For Food Bank - Nov. 5, 2009
580 CFRA reports that Tuesday night's (November 3) METALLICA concert at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada is helping to fill the shelves at the Ottawa Food Bank.

METALLICA has donated a portion of each ticket to the sold-out show to the Food Bank, delivering a cheque for CAD $8,700 (approximately USD $8,200) to the agency.

Executive Director Peter Tilley says every dollar donated to the Ottawa Food Bank generated $5 worth of food into the community.

According to The Montreal Gazette, METALLICA donated CAD $21,462 from the box-office take of their two sold-out shows at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on September 19-20 to Sun Youth, a local community services organization.

"It's a beautiful gift," said Sid Stevens, co-founder of Sun Youth. Stevens said he was told the group makes a practice of turning over part of its receipts to a local charity at every stop on its tour.

Sun Youth was asked, however, to keep the donation under wraps until the group had left Montreal.

"People sometimes look at groups of this nature in a derogatory or negative manner," said Stevens, who is not familiar with METALLICA's music. "But it's very interesting to see them donate in every city they visit."

You dumb shit, Megdave is no where near in the same financial limo as Metallica, when hes playing 4k capactiy clubs and Metallica is playing 18k arenas. GTFO out with your ignorant shit. Besides, id rather have a scrooge that releases decently produced albums than to have a charity giver who releases crap that sounds like it was recorded on a tascam.

I like DM, in fact its playing as we speak on my iPod. Endgame is a FAR better quality album, production wise and musically. Megadeth will never be on that level, maybe at one time in their careers but lets face it, do we really want metal to be on that level? I dont. I dont want real metal bands to be "it". Dont get me wrong, Metallica, i like them, i bought all of their CD's i even bought some kind of monster DVD. Cause im a fan. But dickhead who posted above me made a snide remarks on how Dave doesnt donate money or time, well, he does, he built that music studio for kids to learn how to play instruments. Hes just another Metallica/Mustaine baiter.

COMMENT | So Metallica didn't really give any money...

the fans did. It would be nice if Metallica could match the amount raised from ticket sales. You just know they could easily afford it.

What I love about it is not what they give and how much, but that they have been doing it for a long while, and nobody ever spoke about it, until now and not by them. That's when generosity is pure.

so 16,000 people attend & pay $70 bucks each. That's a gross income of $1.2 million. And all they only give $8,00 to the food bank?

This is just free press.

The food cart in Lars' dressing room must have cost more,,,
