SLASH Talks About Guest Musicians For His Upcoming Solo Album - Nov. 5, 2009
According to AOL Music, legendary VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash is putting the finishing touches on his debut solo album, "Slash", and can't wait for the results to be released.

Speaking at the Marshall Classic Rock Roll of Honour awards in London on Monday (November 2), he said, "It's pretty much done. I've got a couple of songs left to mix and I've got one song left to record which I'm doing as soon as I leave here, after I head back tomorrow.

"There's quite a list of [guest musicians] on the album. I'm not publicly talking about who it is until all the ink is dried on all the different contracts, but the rumours are out there — you sort of know what's going on."

Slash added: "There will be some people from the pop business that people are surprised that I'm using, and there's also some real rock 'n' roll people with pop guises."

Slash said he only drew up his wish list of singers when he had written the songs for the record. He explained, "When I was actually doing the writing of the songs I didn't have singers. But then, when I had finished them, I thought 'you know who would sound good on this...' and that's how it would start."

Slash has inked a deal with Roadrunner Records for the European release of his debut solo CD.

"Slash" will see Roadrunner Records enter into a unique and innovative association with a U.K. media partner — the special-interest media group Future. In a brand new concept in record distribution the standard album release will be preceded by a "fan pack," in which the Roadrunner Records album will be bundled together with a highly collectable special issue of Future Publishing's Classic Rock magazine dedicated to Slash's career. This will be the first format of the album available anywhere in the world.

Slash will release a two-track CD single in Japan on November 11 containing the song "Sahara" (featuring singer Koshi Inaba of the Japanese hard rock duo B'Z) and a version of the GN'R classic "Paradise City" (featuring CYPRESS HILL and Fergie [a.k.a. Stacy Ann Ferguson] of the BLACK EYED PEAS).

Video footage of Slash talking about his collaboration with Koshi Inaba during a Japanese TV interview can be viewed below. (Note: The "Sahara" track can apparently be heard in the background.)

Slash tracked most of the CD with former NINE INCH NAILS drummer Josh Freese and ex-JANE'S ADDICTION bassist Chris Chaney. Other confirmed guest singers so far include Ozzy Osbourne, AVENGED SEVENFOLD's M. Shadows and Chris Cornell (SOUNDGARDEN, AUDIOSLAVE). The CD was produced by Eric Valentine (GOOD CHARLOTTE, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE) and features additional appearances by ex-GUNS N' ROSES drummer Steven Adler, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS bassist Flea and former NIRVANA drummer and current FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl.

Slash left GUNS N' ROSES in the mid-'90s, forming SLASH'S SNAKEPIT before later assembling VELVET REVOLVER with several other ex-members of GUNS N' ROSES and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS singer Scott Weiland (who was dismissed in April 2008).

Hopefully Kelly Shaefer is one of those singers Slash has on his album. I'd love to hear Kelly's voice alongside Slash's guitar.

Slash's guitar playing is a bit overrated. Slash lives off of his persona. He is like a character. I believe Michael Jackson originally recruited Slash to do songs with him back in 1991 because he liked the character that Slash was, not necessarily the fact that he was a great guitar player. The top hat, the long hair, the hidden face, he's like a superhero and people like that. If he had an appearance like Dave Matthews, went by the name Saul Hudson, and played exactly like h plays guitar now, no one would even care about him.

he may be a bit overrated in a sense, but I think people wanted him on their albums because he captures what other more techincal players don't, a rippin' sound & he injects a major case of Rock n Roll into a song...something a guy like say Ynvwie couldn't do if he tried, despite the fact he's "faster" or can play a scale & make his neck catch fire(zzz).

yeah, well he should make the move and go hit up axl like he did back in 06 and try to make up this time!!
cause this pop shit is only gonna last one album and then what? velvet? please..
while axl on the other hand will attempt one more time to start a tour (which will fail, yet again); and then can they all get over their senses and GET DA FUCK BACK TOGETHER PLEASE !?!?!?!!? seriously it doesn't take a genius to see that it's just NOT working on each of their own end. although they are all pretty active (which is a great sign!)
check this out if you still need a calculator, it's still way below average shit: adler is doing everything he can to stay productive now that he's off smack (dvd, book, tv, shows... =bored as fuck and ready to blow it up like back in the day!) + duff has got his loaded gun, but i mean come on, sick has like maybe 2 decent songs on there, the rest is, once again: too below average, don't forget that he's only one fifth of the capacity of guns = but he's better then ever, and ready to kick! + slash is running around in the hollywack scene making an album with fergie and mr. shadows (:0), don't get me wrong it's a dope concept, but what happened to returning the coin to people like (let me throw in some names if you lack imagination): alice cooper, alice in chains (who's back and kickin ass), matt sorum, sebastian, lemmy, ac/dc, aerosmith, jeff beck, bowie, eric dover, jimmy page, gilby clarke, metallica, crüe, the stones, weiland (hey why not, to tie the knot!), iggy, zakk.. you want some rock figures, i'll give you some rock figures! what's up with that "some people from the pop business", or "rock 'n' roll people with pop guises", why can't you make a str8 up sick rn'r album that's gonna kick everyone's ass back in check! why are we going to have to hear some lame squeaking-off-and-autotuned-black-rn'b-wannabe voices on the record?? it's gonna spoil it too! anywho, i just hope slash is not getting pussy wiped by his cuban-cypress hill lovin wife (by the way i love cypress and i think it's dope that he's collaborating, paradise is gonna sound ill!, i just question the pop figures);
izzy is....well: izzy = putting out solo albums left and right that no one has ever heard of, and honestly (being the biggest izzy fan myself) wouldn't even care to. doing absolutely zero promoting/touring/fan addressing. BUT! is eager to kick it back world-wide-fame style, since he has been kickin it with sir axl on tour lately, as to, test the waters so to speak;
and last, and definitely the least = mister axl, who yet again will attempt to re-schedule a world wide tour, which will result in getting canceled because he doesn't realize that the people that use to fuel who is his, are no longer there (his boyz, niven, goldstein...), and therefore he no longer is.
so, you do the math people, including you too GNR!!! and please tell me that we could ask for the more promising this x-mas. rock needs rockstars. and axl doesn't work anymore,
we need GUNS N' MOTHER FUCKIN' ROSES.

When one is 'high-profile' enough that you can say "you know who would sound good on this..." and make it happen, that is just too cool.

I'm looking forward to hearing this.

I have always hated rock stars talking about how they enjoy some other artists music that has nothing to do with rock let alone have them playing on thier records or having them play on thiers.metal and hard rock are always being trashed by critics and these same people yet you want to embrace them?seriously I doubt fergie could name a metal song let alone name a band yet she gets to use slash's name to give her credability to rock fans?sorry mot gonna happen and will not be buying the cd just for having these people on it.

Let's not go nuts now.

Slash is the last true guitar hero of Hard Rock. He is the last link on the Jimmy Page - Joe Perry guitar player evolution. There are lots of analitical writings about his playing for many reliable guitar releated sources that can confirm you that. And then your ears. He also has the plus of the looks, but a good look doesn't build you a career if we are talking guitar.

However, I really do think that he is moving in very dark places now. I mean, the mainstream scene is just the deepest and darkest hole of all. He is hanging with Fergie more time than a doctor would recommend. Black Eyed Peas. Any given TV show. Any good or not mainstream artist he finds for his album. Courtney Love (before playing with her I call in and I say I feel sick - not going) Now Rihanna. Its not something you would expect from someone who used to wear The Damned t-shirts.

While it's obvious the man has sold out artistically, some people might think this looks a smart business decision. It's not. On the face of it, collaborating with top 40 teenyboppers seems like a great way to get some cachet with the younger kids. Long-term, though, this just kills his credibility. Can you imagine Eric Clapton ruining "Layla" or Joe Perry destroying "Back in the Saddle" by playing with Cypress Fooking Hill?? Who's going to take him seriously??

So no only is Slash losing credibility as an artist, he's also a shitty businessman. Total. Moron.

I'll defiantely be a first day buyer of Slash's solo album. Yup it's a pitty that Fergie's on it but hey, there's other cool voices and musicians. Steven Adler and Izzy!!! Chris Cornell!!

For years Slash has contributed with many artists, Lenny Kravitz, Alice Cooper, Michael Jackson and few other pop artists. He's great guitarist and if people pay him money to perform he would. It's his living!!!!!
He's got wife and kids to support. Wouldn't you do this?????
