PAUL DI'ANNO: New Video Interview Posted Online - Nov. 21, 2009
Brazil's Rádio Putzgrila recently conducted an interview with former IRON MAIDEN singer Paul Di'Anno. Watch the chat below.

In other news, Di'Anno has released the following statement via his MySpace page:

"On behalf of myself and the tour promoter and the two touring bands and tour manager, this is a statement concerning the cancellation of some shows at the end of the Eastern European tour.

"Due to extreme flu sickness of my band, myself, the tour promoter and tour manager (and our support band who were travelling on the tour bus with us), it was just impossible for the tour to be completed.

"We would like to appologise to all of our fans and the various promoters involved and we shall find a way (when we are all well again) to reschedule those dates that were cancelled.

"Very sorry for this unfortunate situation, but it was something that we had no way of controlling."

According to the web site of the B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in New York City, Di'Anno will perform at the venue on January 27, 2010 as part of his first U.S. tour in over 15 years. Support at the show will come from ICARUS WITCH.

When asked by Vue Weekly in a recent interview about the possibility of releasing a new studio album in the not-too-distant future, Di'Anno replied, "We did five new tracks in Germany last year — it's very industrialized — but we got in a bit of an argument with the record company and we told them to piss off, basically. So I kept them songs and a friend of mine where I am right at the minute in Salisbury down in Southwest England, has just handed me 16 pieces of music so I'm going to go away when I have a bit of time and see what I can come up with for that."

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH: Münster, Hamburg Shows Cancelled - Nov. 21, 2009
Los Angeles metallers FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH have issued the following update:

"Tonight's [Saturday, November 21] show with SHADOWS FALL in Münster and tomorrow night's [Sunday, November 22] show in Hamburg have been canceled due to illness. We apologize to all our fans who will miss these two shows — it's very unfortunate timing. The rest of the tour dates are unaffected."

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH previously cancelled the November 19 concert in Gothenburg, Sweden because guitarist Zoltan Bathory was "violently ill . . . with nausea and vertigo."

The band performed Wednesday night (November 18) at John Dee in Oslo, Norway as a four-piece as a result of Zoltan's illness.

"Dying Breed", the opening track to FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's latest album, "War Is The Answer", has just been released as a digital single. It also features "Succubus", a bonus track previously unreleased and taken from the sessions for "The Way Of The Fist", the band’s debut album. A demo version of the song found its way online a few years ago and, due to popular demand, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH recently remixed and remastered it.

Video footage of FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's November 16, 2009 performance in Helsinki, Finland can be viewed below.

METALLICA, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES Members Perform With DEFTONES - Nov. 21, 2009
Robert Trujillo (METALLICA), Shavo Odadjian (SYSTEM OF A DOWN), Daron Malakian (SYSTEM OF A DOWN) and Mike Muir (SUICIDAL TENDENCIES) are among the guest musicians who performed with the DEFTONES last night (Friday, November 20) at the second of two benefit shows for DEFTONES bassist Chi Cheng.

Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be viewed below.

Chi has been in a semi-conscious state since being involved in a horrific accident in November 2008, and his family has accumulated an overwhelming amount of medical bills that insurance does not entirely cover. It is DEFTONES' mission to raise significant funds to help ensure Chi's recovery by playing two very special benefit shows in Hollywood on November 19 and November 20, and also by launching a benefit auction in conjunction with CharityBuzz.com.

The auction features many special items generously donated by an array of DEFTONES' friends, including METALLICA, SYSTEM OF A DOWN, BLINK 182, HIM, SLAYER and many more.

ECHOTERRA: 'In Your Eyes' EP Artwork Revealed - Nov. 21, 2009
ECHOTERRA, the new female-fronted symphonic rock/metal band featuring keyboardist Jonah Weingarten (PYRAMAZE), guitarist Yan Leviathan (AVIAN), bassist Brian Hollenbeck, vocalist Melissa Ferlaak (VISIONS OF ATLANTIS) and drummer Adam Sagan (INTO ETERNITY), has unveiled the cover artwork for its new EP, "In Your Eyes". According to the group, "This mini-album will feature [ECHOTERRA's new singer] Ferlaak on the three re-recorded songs from our debut CD: 'In Your Eyes', 'A Tear of Her Heart' and 'Say, Try, Lie, Die'. The EP will also feature an orchestral version of 'Bear Mountain', a song that will be featured on our next full-length album. 'The Echoterra Overture' will also be included. Release date will be in the spring of 2010."

The new version of the song "In Your Eyes" is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page.

ECHOTERRA recently parted ways with singer Suvi Virtanen for the sole reason that she is located in Sweden while the rest of the band is located in the U.S., which makes it very difficult to perform live.

Adam joined ECHOTERRA as the replacement for John Gensmer, since John is busy with his main band EPICUREAN and will not have the time to dedicate to ECHOTERRA.

ECHOTERRA's first show will take place on Saturday, February 6, 2010 in St. Paul, Minnesota opening for EPICA. More dates will be announced soon.

ECHOTERRA's debut album, "The Law Of One", was released on September 15 via Blinding Force Recordings.

THE MURDER OF MY SWEET's 'Bleed Me Dry' Single Lands On Swedish Chart - Nov. 21, 2009
"Bleed Me Dry", the new single from Sweden's THE MURDER OF MY SWEET, has entered the national chart in the band's home country at position No. 14.

"Bleed Me Dry" was released in Sweden on November 13. The band also presented the release with a launch gig in their hometown on the same day at the Roq Club.
The CD single track listing:

01. Bleed Me Dry
02. Bleed Me Dry (instrumental version)
03. Sands Of Time (non-album track)

Watch the "Bleed Me Dry" video below.

THE MURDER OF MY SWEET's debut album, entitled "Divanity", will be released worldwide on Frontiers Records in January 2010.

The band was formed by drummer, songwriter and producer Daniel Flores, who — after a few false starts of what was to become THE MURDER OF MY SWEET — just by coincidence came across the magnificent singer Angelica Rylin, well endowed with the right look, voice and talents, being exactly what Daniel was searching for. The rest of THE MURDER OF MY SWEET's lineup followed — guitarist Daniel Palmqvist, bass player Johan Niemann and keyboardist Andreas Lindahl all being mentally, creatively and spiritually the right combination to complete the perfect match.

THE MURDER OF MY SWEET's sound is rich in influence and yet distinctly unique. The lush melodic cinematic landscapes reflect the diversity of the five members own musical experiences. From Angelica's soaring vocal melodies and sweeping choruses to the explosive layers of guitars from Palmqvist and the thrilling orchestratic keyboard arrangements painted by Andreas Lindahl backed by the bombastic and dynamic rhythms of Niemann and Flores. The resulting collaborations are a work both haunting and uplifting — fuelled by the curiosity of seeing where their burning ambitions will take them.

"In a time of recession where lots of labels are cutting down on new signings and releases, Napalm have shown that they have the guts and the capabilities to grow and focus on their beliefs. We are looking very much forward to what the future will bring for our cooperation."

THE KANDIDATE is:

SACRIFICE On 'Hellbound Radio'; More Video Footage Available - Nov. 21, 2009
Legendary Canadian thrashers SACRIFICE were interviewed live on the

"The Ones I Condemn", the new album from SACRIFICE, will be released in Europe on January 22, 2010 via Cyclone Empire Records. Guest musicians on the album include Jed Simon (ZIMMERS HOLE, TENET, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, ARMOROS), who "[laid] down a total whammy-bar barrage," and the band's old Scarborough metal comrade Dave Hewson (SLAUGHTER, STRAPPADO), who lent some guest vocals to "The Devil's Martyr".

"The Ones I Condemn" track listing:

The Canadian version of "The Ones I Condemn", featuring an exclusive bonus track — a cover of RUSH's "Athem" — is available in the USA through Relapse, Metal Haven Chicago, The End Records and Century Media mailorders.

Commented guitarist/vocalist Rob Urbinati: "Our recording process was real, so we didn't feel comfortable going too far into the digital realm for the cover. Our old friend, Kurt Bachman from BELIEVER, got us in touch with Michael 'Roz' Rosner, who does nothing but absolutely stunning work. Roz was into letting technology assist in creating art, not take over, and that is the same approach we take to music. Roz can make an image look beautiful, yet ugly; human yet inhuman; all awesome, unique imagery. The Eye Level studio team took our ideas and gave us a great cover."

ACHERON: 'I Am Heathen' Video Released - Nov. 21, 2009
"I Am Heathen", the new video from cult black/death metal act ACHERON, can be viewed below.

This is the first professionally filmed music video the band has done in its 20-plus years of existence.

Commented frontman Vincent Crowley: "The video is about embracing the life of being a heathen. Many people struggle with what is wrong or right, good or evil. When they go against the norm, the guilt eats away at them. Heathens don't have negative feeling about embracing their true nature. Temptation doesn't weaken us because in the end we control it! Lots of the symbolism in the video shows just that."

The "I Am Heathen" video was filmed with Werner Videos Services and was directed by Aaron Werner. The clip features the band lineup of Vincent Crowley, Kyle Severn, Max Otworth and Ash Thomas, and includes a special appearance by actress Madison Riley.

This video will be featured on a free promotional DVD put out by the band. The disc is over 90 minutes long and will also contain in-depth band video documentary on "Making Final Conflict" (rare footage!), video footage from the band's 2008 "December Damnation" mini-tour in Brazil and the complete "Satanic Supremacy" three-song demo. This DVD is being given out for free to people who are buying the new "The Final Conflict: Last Days Of God" CD from the band or Ibex Moon Records.

ACHERON will play a DVD/video release show in Columbus, Ohio, on December 4. The concert will be held at The Summit (2210 Summit St.) and will include additional performances by DEAD SEA, INFERNAL DEATH and CARDIAC ARREST.

"The Final Conflict: Last Days of God", was released on April 30 via Displeased Records. The CD was once again recorded at Mars Recording Compound with Bill Korecky and was mastered at West West Side Music in New Windsor, New York. The follow-up to 2003's "Rebirth: Metamorphosing into Godhood" is a concept album based on the fall of the three major white light religions, Christianity, Islam and Judaism.

FABIO 'AMON 418' BARTOLINI Quits OPPOSITE SIDES - Nov. 20, 2009
Fabio "Amon 418" Bartolini of OPPOSITE SIDES and HATE PROFILE has issued the following update:

"I'm sad to announce that after nine years of efforts, victories, disasters and vibrant music, I'm no longer part of OPPOSITE SIDES. The reason being that I'll need at least a couple months to fully recover from an ugly painful problem in my back. The band finally has a stable lineup and planned gigs, unfortunately (?!) making it impossible to stop the activity on the fly. Marco 'Karnal' from the brutal death metal band CARNALITY will be the new band's guitarist — the best possible option, being Marco both a long time friend and a skilled guitarist.

"Best of luck to OPPOSITE SIDES and a sincere thank you to Massimo for sharing this exciting adventure with me for all of these years, giving me the chance to play guitars, bass and synth as well as trusting me as a sound engineer and co-producer. We'll drink to this soon.

"As for HATE PROFILE, the new album won't be profoundly affected by this and I expect to get it mixed for the end of 2009. The last months spent working on 'Opus II' brought in some new energies and ideas, while working with m:A Fog promoted a new approach to the writing process: the aim for 2010 is to have 'Opus III' fully written.

"As HATE PROFILE is presently my only project, I'll have much more time to get back on the professional sound engineering track; primarily mixing and producing in my own studio, but I'm open to further development."

OPPOSITE SIDES's debut album, "Soul Mechanics", was released through Mondongo Canibale Records. According to a press release, the LP "stands out as modern-sounding extreme metal loaded with elecronic / industrial sounds and prog rock/fusion arrangements. Recorded in one of Italy's finest recording studios, the album also feature a stunning cover artwork from Niklas Sundin (DARK TRANQUILLITY) of Cabin Fever Media, the perfect complement to a personal and mature album."

"Soul Mechanics" recording lineup:

* Massimo Arke - Guitars, Clean Vocals, Songwriter, Producer
* Fabio "Amon 418" Bartolini (HATE PROFILE) - Bass, Synth, Co-Producer
* Martyr Lucifer (HORTUS ANIMAE, SPACE MIRRORS) - Throat, Programming
* Diego "GroM" Meraviglia (ANCIENT, DOOMSWORD, PSYCHOFAGIST, HATE PROFILE, HORTUS ANIMAE...) - Session Drums

TAPROOT Signs With VICTORY RECORDS - Nov. 20, 2009
Michigan-based hard rock quartet TAPROOT has inked a deal with Victory Records. The band is currently working on material for a new album, tentatively due next spring/summer.

TAPROOT's latest CD, "Our Long Road Home", sold around 7,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release to enter The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 65. The follow-up to 2005's "Blue-Sky Research" was released through Velvet Hammer, the label founded by the management company of the same name (SYSTEM OF A DOWN, DEFTONES). Working with producer Tim Patalan (SPONGE, LOVEDRUG), the band penned more than fifty songs for the album, twelve of which were recorded in a converted barn just a few minutes down the road from vocalist/guitarist Stephen Richards' home.

After recording three albums for a major label, "Our Long Road Home" was TAPROOT's first as an indie band, and as Richards told it at the time, that suited them just fine. "Budget cuts and political shifts cost us our support system at the old place," he said. "When our A&R guy lost his job, we knew it was time for a change. A few years ago, that might've been a scary thing, but it's a brand-new world out there now for bands like us. We no longer have to rely on a big record company to make things happen and that's exciting. We made this record without the pressure of having to write four smash hit singles hanging over our heads and that was liberating. Of course," he laughed, "there are a few songs on the album that could do really well on radio."

TAPROOT's "Wherever I Stand" video can be viewed below. The clip was shot with director Jus10.

AMORPHIS: Video Interview With TOMI KOIVUSAARI Posted Online - Nov. 20, 2009
E-Rock.gr conducted an interview with rhythm guitarist Tomi Koivusaari of Finnish metallers AMORPHIS on November 1, 2009 when the band played Athens, Greece. Watch the chat in two parts below.

AMORPHIS will release its first-ever live DVD in the spring of 2010, in time for the band's 20th anniversary. The filming took place earlier tonight (Friday, November 20) at Club Teatria in Oulu, Finland, where AMORPHIS was supported by STRATOVARIUS and BEFORE THE DAWN. In addition to the full-length live show, the anniversary DVD will include plenty of bonus material documenting the band’s impressive career.

During the recent five-week European tour, AMORPHIS played to sold-out venues in London and Paris as well as in Sofia, Bulgaria and various German towns. Likewise, the current Finnish tour started with sold-out shows in Jyväskylä and Joensuu.

Commented guitarist Esa Holopainen: "After our successful European tour, it feels good to return to the Finnish stages. And it's great to notice that our 'home folks' have not forgotten us."

"Skyforger", the new album from AMORPHIS, sold around 1,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD landed at position No. 33 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"Skyforger" entered the official chart in the band's home country at position No. 1. Released on May 29 via Nuclear Blast Records (May 27 in Finland), the follow-up to the "Eclipse" and "Silent Waters" LPs, both of which were certified gold in the band's native Finland, was recorded at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki.

THE JOE PERRY PROJECT To Support BAD COMPANY In U.K. - Nov. 20, 2009
AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry's solo band, dubbed THE JOE PERRY PROJECT, will support BAD COMPANY on a U.K. tour in April. The dates are as follows:

April 01 - Birmingham, UK - LG Arena
April 02 - Manchester, UK - Arena
April 04 - Sheffield, UK - City Hall
April 05 - Cardiff, UK - CIA
April 07 - Newcastle, UK - Arena
April 08 - Glasgow, UK - Clyde
April 10 - Brighton, UK - Center
April 11 - London, UK - Wembley Arena

Joe Perry's fifth solo album, "Have Guitar, Will Travel", will be released in Japan on December 23. The Japanese edition of the album will include two bonus tracks — "Dream On" (AEROSMITH) and "Revolution" (THE BEATLES).

Video footage of Perry talking about "We've Got a Long Way To Go", the first single from "Have Guitar, Will Travel", can be viewed below.

"Have Guitar, Will Travel" was released in the U.S. on October 6 via Roman Records. The hard-driving, ten-song, in your face, collection features Perry's trademark rock and blues ferocity. Recorded this past spring at the BoneYard, Perry's state-of-the-art home studio, where AEROSMITH's "Honkin' On Bobo" and "Just Push Play" were recorded, "Have Guitar, Will Travel" is entirely written and produced by Perry.

Still as scorching hot on guitar as he is preternaturally cool in his persona, "Have Guitar, Will Travel" is a departure for Perry in that the CD was conceived as a band recording. From start to finish it took only forty-seven days to complete. "Making this record in such a short period of time gave us a chance to capture an energy and flow that was very different from the last record," said Perry. "The way the players came together at a time when I had the music and lyrics in my head ready to go was pure synchronicity. The last record rocked, but this one rocks and then some. I'm really proud of it."

"We've Got A Long Way To Go", the CDs first single, showcases the voice of a young German singer known as Hagen, found completely by chance on YouTube by Joe's wife Billie. "I first called him from Cleveland when I went to perform at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame jam with Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Ron Wood, Flea and METALLICA," said Perry. "It took several minutes to convince him that it wasn't a prank call, but a true invitation to audition to sing on the CD." Hagen mans the microphone for five tracks, while Perry sings lead on four. The remaining tenth song is an instrumental entitled "Wooden Ships".

In addition, Perry attracted an esteemed roster of some of the best players that the music world has to offer; bassist David Hull, who played with THE BUDDY MILES BAND at 19 and was in THE JOE PERRY PROJECT in the '80s, drummer Ben Tileston, a Boston University percussion graduate, who plays drums with two of Perry's sons in TAB THE BAND, Paul Santo, who's played Hammond organ/pipe organ with the likes of Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton and Ozzy Osbourne, drummers Scott Meeder and Marty Richards and Willie "Loco" Alexander, Boston's "Godfather of Punk," who was part of the Bostown sound of the band THE BAGATELLE.

A six-week Twitter search was conducted to find the CDs title. The winner, out of nearly 2000 entries, was Joe Piscitelli, who used a play on the old CBS television program "Have Gun – Will Travel".

The release of "Have Guitar, Will Travel" follows self-produced solo releases including "Let The Music Do The Talking" (1980), "Once A Rocker, Always A Rocker" (1983), "I've Got The Rock 'N' Rolls Again" (1981) and 2005's "Joe Perry", which received universal critical praise and earned Perry his first solo Grammy nomination for "Best Instrumental Song" ("Mercy").

The album's title comes from the well-known Latin phrase that, through the ages, has been uttered as a reminder of the mortality we all share. According to ancient texts, memento mori was historically acted out as a kind of ritual tableau in ancient Rome when a victorious general was welcomed back to the city with a parade: "Standing behind the victorious general was a servant, and he had the task of reminding the general that, though he was up on the peak today, tomorrow was another day. The servant did this by telling the general that he should remember that he was mortal, i.e. 'Memento mori."

ATREYU Bassist's Tour Story - Nov. 20, 2009
Ken Brzezinski of Static Multimedia recently conducted an interview with ATREYU bassist Marc McKnight. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Static Multimedia: Do you have any tour stories?

Marc: Well, there was this one girl in Miami that was just hammered out of her mind. And you know, semi-attractive, and she's just HAMMERED, like sloppy drunk, right? And she somehow makes her way on our bus. She wasn't, like, at the show with us. She just wanted to see the bands, you know what I mean? So she got on our bus and we kept trying to pass her off to one of our friends or one of the crew members but she was like, "No, I want one of the band!" And she was just like riding people and stuff. So she goes in the back with someone…who shall remain nameless, and they were, you know, enjoying themselves in the back, but she had left her phone up front. So one of our friends took a picture of his balls and sent it to everyone on her contact list and said, "Sorry, I'm busy being a nut!!" So yeah, that's a pretty good story!

Static Multimedia: What was the writing and recording process like for your latest album, "Congregation Of The Damned"?

Marc: Um, well we started writing for this album in like November of last year, so it's been about a year ago now. So we started writing and we had like 13 or 14 songs and we were like, "Shit." Like, on "A Death-Grip On Yesterday" we wanted 10 songs on the record so we wrote 10 songs. So it was like, "What are we gonna do? Should we just keep going or what?" And it was like, "Nah let's just keep going and see what happens." So we ended up with like 30 songs that were all amazing. I mean, the well really never ran dry, but we just had to stop because we were like, "This is getting ridiculous." Whittled that down to 18 songs, met up with Bob Marlette, our producer, and did like pre-production stuff with him, whittled those down to 16 and, uh, recorded 16 songs. We did the drums in Henson Studios out in L.A., which is like Jim Henson, like "Muppets", which was amazing. And then we did the rest at Bob's house in Woodland Hills. It was amazing, like as far as my bass, I did all the songs in two days, I think. I just muscled through them — ten songs one day and six the second. Then the guitars went and did all their things. There were some guitars done before I did all my stuff. Because I had to, like, go back home for some family stuff and then two weeks later, they had some more guitars done. And it just really started, like... I mean, because in pre-production you have an idea of what it's going to sound like, but you don't really hear what it sounds like till everything is starting to get laid out. So once I started to hear all the guitar parts being put down and the solos starting to be put in and like all of the vocal starting to get laid down, it was awesome. But we had just focused on the music in [pre-production] so then it'd be like Alex [Varkatzas, vocals] and Brandon [Saller, drums/vocals] sitting in the studio just shredding out the vocals. And they're both like, their performances are absurd. Like, Alex hasn't written better lyrics and his performance is just amazing and he's so genuine and "there."

Static Multimedia: It seems like this album is the accumulation of your life's work…

Marc: Well, yeah, I mean it's just because we HAVE been a band for 10 years and this IS our fifth record, and we experimented a lot on the last record. There were a lot of things we learned about ourselves as a band and there were a lot of things we added to our arsenal and there were a lot of things that we were like, "OK, let's not do that again." But we did it, you know? And I don't regret doing it, any of it. Because it allowed our band to write this record and anything up to writing this was worth it.

Static Multimedia: How do you allow yourself to change when you have so many fans on, especially the web that can be so critical of the music you make?

Marc: Yeah, I've been on Lambgoat, I've been on Blabbermouth, I've been on Absolute Punk, I've been on PRP. I've seen all that sh*t and I stay away from it because I'm not doing this. No offense to them, because our fans got us to where we are, and without our fans, we're f*cked, so I'm not saying we're not doing it for them. But when we write music, we write music that we want to hear and that we love because we do it because we love it. You know what I mean? So if I started to write it for kids who only listen to "The Curse" [2004] and "Suicide Notes [And Butterfly Kisses]" , that want us to write that album again, who are we being fair to?! You know what I mean? I'm not going to be 18 years old again; I'm not going to write that record again. I want to allow the band to expand and allow the band to grow."

GRIND INC. Signs With BASTARDIZED RECORDINGS - Nov. 20, 2009
German death metallers GRIND INC. have inked a deal with Bastardized Recordings. The band recently entered the Catacomb Productions studio to begin recording its fourth album for an early 2010 release.

Commented the group: "We are looking forward to the new collaboration and are glad about this decision for the new team deathmatch and being part of this brilliant rooster."

The band recently parted ways with Thomas Strater (one of GRIND INC.'s two vocalists) due to "musical differences and circumstances of life."

GRIND INC. is not seeking a replacement singer and will continue as a four-piece.

GRIND INC.'s third album, "Sudden State of Hate", was released in 2008 via Twilight Vertrieb. The follow-up to 2006's "Inhale the Violence" was recorded at Ezy Soundz Studio in Krefeld with producer Carsten "Cazy" Schmidt and features artwork by Björn Goosses of Killustrations.com.

GRIND INC. started out in 2001 as a side project of HATE FACTOR and NIGHT IN GALES members. The point was "to make the most brutal music possible without neglecting groove and having shitloads of fun," according to the band's official bio.

The group's debut album, "Executed", was released in May 2005.

JON OLIVA'S PAIN Begins Mixing New Album - Nov. 20, 2009
JON OLIVA'S PAIN, the band led by SAVATAGE mastermind Jon Oliva, will release its fourth album, "Festival", on February 19, 2010 via AFM Records. A March/April European tour will be confirmed soon, culminating with the filming of a live DVD consisting of music from the four JON OLIVA'S PAIN CDs and a healthy dose of SAVATAGE classics.

Commented the band: "We are beginning [to mix] the bonus tracks and the ballad today. From there, we will set up the mix template for the meat of the album. This is just a basic working template for the drums, bass and guitars. It'll help us speed up the time needed to put all the remaining instruments, vocals, tricks, trinkets and what-nots in their proper place.

"Needless to say, with more than 100 tracks on many songs the process is still quite exhausting.

"We will have mixes of three songs to digest this weekend. In the end, we will take a final 'review' day to fine-tweak all the songs in preparation for mastering.

"We will deliver the CD to AFM the first week of December, barring any crazy act of God that may get in our way.

"We have focused on every conceivable detail possible while insuring that the mix is raw, alive and full of emotion.

"We stumbled upon so many great ideas during the last two months and most of these songs have taken on a shape that we had not previously imagined. That is simply the magic of having the time and also the support from our record label, AFM. Delivering anything but 110% would be insulting both to ourselves and, of course, you...our most supportive and enthusiastic fans!"

Drummer Christopher Kinder recently stated about the forthcoming JON OLIVA'S PAIN CD, "Part of the staple JON OLIVA'S PAIN sound has become [Jon's] ability to change characters and voices at will and to create incredibly interesting, thought-provoking, passionate and downright insane vocal melodies. [Producer] Tom Morris and I have been pushing him to the edge (as Jon Oliva requested), and we have met that challenge with great enthusiasm and also a bit of joy watching him suffer.... .

"Oliva's tenancious attitude, drive and full desire to do the best he can is only partially over-shadowed by the seemingly impossible task of singing songs that would require most of us to swallow mass consumptions of razor-blades in order to deliver what would be considered as torture to any metal music lover."

JON OLIVA'S PAIN's latest album, "Global Warning", was released in the U.S. in May 2008 via Locomotive Records. The CD features a guest appearance by guitarist Ralph Santolla (OBITUARY, ex-DEICIDE, DEATH, ICED EARTH) on two songs: "Adding the Cost" and "You'll Never Know".

TRIVIUM Frontman: 'I've Been Listening To Mainly Classical Music' - Nov. 20, 2009
Kristen Dunleavy of myYearbook recently conducted an interview with vocalist/guitarist Matt Heafy of Florida metallers TRIVIUM. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

myYearbook: Are you writing potential TRIVIUM songs on this tour?

Heafy: We have about 30 songs written for the next record, purely in demo stages. We have a brand new song just about completely finished that we'll record in January. It's gonna be in the video game God of War 3.

myYearbook: Is it hard for you guys to weed out certain songs and keep the special ones?

Heafy: No, you can always tell. When you listen to all the songs right next to each other, you'll know immediately which are the weak ones are and which are the strong ones.

myYearbook: As far inspiration goes, you've written numerous songs about mythology. What have you been drawing inspiration from these days?

Heafy: Each record has been different. The first two were about things close to me. The third was about a lot of social issues, the fourth drew from mythology. For the next record, I just want to make it so that whether or not you're into metal, you can enjoy it and whether or not you speak English, you know what the song is about. I want it to transcend the normal boundaries of what metal is. It's gonna be about digging and writing from the heart.

myYearbook: What bands have you been listening to lately?

Heafy: I've been listening to mainly classical music. Also, the new MUSE album, the new RAMMSTEIN album, the new COLDPLAY album and pretty much the entire DEPECHE MODE catalog. And NINE INCH NAILS' entire catalog. I guess that's about it.

myYearbook: Most of those aren't metal bands. Do you feel there are a healthy number of talented metal bands out there today?

Heafy: The problem right now is that so many bands are getting so extreme and into so many different subgenres. I remember the hardcore scene when I was in high school; it wasn't that hard. It was kind of punk-influenced, kind of tough. Nowadays the hardcore scene is getting so ridiculously heavy and so technical that they're not even playing songs anymore. It's so heavy and so ridiculous that it doesn't make sense. Metal is doing the same thing. Everyone keeps subgenre-ing themselves into these little categories so no one really knows what they're listening to anymore. They're definitely are some good bands out there. I think everyone's so obsessed with everything other than making a good song right now that they're inhibiting their own band.

myYearbook: What's the most ridiculous genre TRIVIUM has been labeled?

Heafy: Some people didn't even bother giving a genre for our third record because they said we sounded like METALLICA copycats. We've heard some funny stuff, some clever stuff, some not-so-clever stuff. Metalcore I always shot down right away, 'cause that genre's gonna die out in like a year. There are pretty much no metalcore bands now. That's the problem with sub-generification. Call us metal if you want, we just make our own music. When people start jumping on bandwagons with these ridiculous names, they're screwing their own band over.

myYearbook: Do you feel pressured to stay true to whatever fans think is the true TRIVIUM sound?

Heafy: It's tricky because each record is so different. I'm sure there are people that have their favorite CD's. It's not necessarily bad pressure, but good pressure from ourselves to find what our sound is and make the best possible song that we can.

myYearbook: Obviously life on the road isn't typical by any means, does that help along the songwriting process?

Heafy: Definitely. I think you need to capture that tension or vibe and write about that. I notice a lot of heavy bands are all positive now, and life isn't that way. I'm not saying be a downer all the time, but there are harsh realities of life and you need to write about them. No matter where people are, it's something everyone can relate to.

NIGHTWISH Singer With THE RASMUS: Behind-The-Scenes Footage From 'October & April' Video - Nov. 20, 2009
Behind-the-scenes footage from the making of "October & April", the new video from Finland's THE RASMUS which features a guest appearance by NIGHTWISH frontwoman Anette Olzon, can be viewed below. The track was released as a single on November 11.

Olzon was scheduled to THE RASMUS on stage earlier tonight (Friday, November 20) at The Dome 52 in Graz, Austria to perform "October & April". The concert will be broadcast on Germany's RTL 2 station on November 27.

In a September 2008 interview with Italy's Musica Metal, THE RASMUS singer Lauri Ylönen stated that the idea for the song came to him nine years ago when Tarja Turunen was still the lead singer of NIGHTWISH, but he only got around to recording the track during the sessions for last year's "Black Roses" CD. "I actually asked Tarja, but she said no!" Lauri revealed. "Then I called Anette, and she was like, 'Yeah, I would love to sing a song with you, I'm a big RASMUS fan, actually two years ago before I joined NIGHTWISH, I was singing THE RASMUS songs in karaoke bars!' so we went with her."

"October & April" was not included on "Black Roses" because the CD was a concept effort and the song didn't fit in with the overall idea for the album. Instead, the track will make its debut on THE RASMUS' "Best of 2001-2009", a compilation of all the hit songs from their four latest albums, including the million-selling "In The Shadows", most of the singles and a few rarities.

Due on November 25, "Best of 2001-2009" features the following track listing:

01. In The Shadows
02. No Fear
03. Guilty (U.S. mix)
04. October & April (featuring Anette Olzon)
05. First Day Of My Life
06. Livin' In A World Without You
07. F-F-F-Falling
08. Chill
09. Immortal
10. Justify
11. Shot
12. Funeral Song
13. Ghost of Love
14. Open My Eyes (acoustic version)
15. In My Life
16. Ten Black Roses
17. Sail Away

Commented Lauri: "We felt it was time to sum up these past ten years. Eero said, let's call the album, 'This is how I spent my twenties.' No matter how stupid it sounded, that is pretty much the truth. We went on this crazy rollercoaster ride; it has been an amazing time. We have travelled to more than 60 countries, from India to Siberia, met thousands of fans all over the world and enthusiastic people working with our records. And when I look back on these last four records, I feel very proud of them. We decided to include most of the singles to the album with a couple of our favorite album tracks, and the new song 'October & April'."

Guitarist MICKY MOODY Discusses His Departure From WHITESNAKE - Nov. 20, 2009
Greece's Rockpages webzine recently conducted an interview with original WHITESNAKE guitarist Micky Moody. An excerpt from the chat follows below.

Rockpages: Did you feel a full member of WHITESNAKE or just a player in [vocalist] David Coverdale's band?

Micky: Full member, indeed. I wasn't getting the full money, but that's another story! The only time when I didn't feel a full member of WHITESNAKE was in 1982 when David asked me to rejoin the band. I had left in late 1981, because I had had enough of the business side of things.. anyway, when I returned, Cozy Powell and Mel Galley were in WHITESNAKE... great musicians, to say the least. But I kinda felt like a session guitar player in that lineup. We had a different management and the vibe was not the same, by any means. I don't blame David for this decision... We weren't making any money and he needed something better for his career. But, in that particular lineup, I was treated like a session player... it was all about David and Cozy. I didn't enjoy that period with WHITESNAKE.

Rockpages: Did you think that it was during that time that David was thinking of going into a more commercial direction?

Micky: Absolutely!

Rockpages: From your perspective, when exactly do you think he started having those thoughts?

Micky: I think right after the "Saints & Sinners" record. David started listening to a lot of American industry people... especially John David Kalodner from Geffen. This guy was ruthless and I'll tell you why... The last time that I played with WHITESNAKE was in October 1983. While I was playing... I think it was in Hamburg... John Kalodner was standing at the side of the stage and he was taking notes. I thought that "This is sinister... this is dark." By the end of the show, he went straight to David and he showed him the notes... It was obvious that John Kalodner did not think much of me. Here's a story after that incident... We were at a hotel in Germany... on the same tour... and David was sitting with John Sykes. Without any specific reason, he turned to me and he said, "Don't you ever turn your back at the audience during the show.". He said that in front of John Sykes and it was evident that Sykes was really embarrassed. I didn't say anything, but I remember thinking, "Fuck you!" I am sorry to tell you this, but this is the truth. He had embarrassed me in front of another musician, but David had already decided to bring John Sykes in the band. After the last gig in Belgium, I asked the tour manager to go and get all the members of WHITESNAKE in my room to announce my decision to leave the band. Everybody came in my room except Coverdale... Cozy — being a truly honest guy — said to me, "Good decision!" Jon Lord started crying... 'cause Jon is always very emotional. A week later, David called me and said, "Oh, you're leaving the band..." That's the story, guys!

MÖTLEY CRÜE, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, LINKIN PARK Members Perform With DEFTONES - Nov. 20, 2009
MÖTLEY CRÜE's Tommy Lee, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN's Greg Puciato, LINKIN PARK's Mike Shinoda, XZIBIT and CYPRESS HILL are among the guest musicians who performed with the DEFTONES last night (Thursday, November 19) at the first of two benefit shows for DEFTONES bassist Chi Cheng.

Regarding his appearance at the event, Puciato told AOL's Noisecreep, "Coming out and doing 'Passenger' with the DEFTONES was exciting and great in the moment. It was truly a tremendous vibe on stage and in the audience, but the whole reason I and everyone else was even there was bittersweet in hindsight. The night, and again tonight, are benefit shows to raise money for Chi Cheng, the DEFTONES' bassist who fell into a coma following a terrible car accident last year.

"If you aren't in the L.A. area and couldn't/can't make it to a show, you can still go to www.oneloveforchi.com, to make a donation, even if small, to help out the family of this wonderful person, a person who is a son, a husband, and a father, as they struggle to pay his at-home care costs.

"On a larger scale, if you don't choose this charity, stop your day for a second and remember that it is our voluntary charity, our willful acts of kindness, that accomplish the most in taking care of one another."

SAXON Joined By ANVIL Frontman For 'Denim And Leather' Performance; Video Available - Nov. 20, 2009
Fan-filmed video footage of ANVIL frontman Steve "Lips" Kudlow joining British heavy metal legends SAXON on stage at the O2 Academy in Leeds, U.K. on November 10, 2009 to perform the classic song "Denim And Leather" can be viewed below.

SAXON just a completed a U.K. tour with ANVIL and SUIDAKRA in the support slots.

Commented SAXON frontman Biff Byford: "We are starting writing songs for the next album next week. Also mixing all the live recordings.. 'Heavy Metal Thunder - The Movie', Wacken 2004, 2007, 2009 and Sheffield. Also listening to old recordings and mixing them.

"We are hoping to be playing some festivals around the world next year, we were thinking to maybe play all the tracks of 'Wheels Of Steel' (and/or 'Strong Arm Of The Law') as a special. It is the 30th anniversary of those albums and the NWOBHM. Although we don't want to live on past glories we cannot ignore the influence this period of British rock had around the globe.

"What do you think? Should we do this or not?"

The upcoming documentary on SAXON, "Heavy Metal Thunder - The Movie", has had its projected release date pushed back to March 1, 2010. The delay was caused by the filmmakers' (U.K.'s Coolhead Productions) desire to include newly discovered vintage footage and additional interviews.

Produced by the makers of the critically acclaimed "Ian Gillan: Highway Star" (Universal, 2007), "Heavy Metal Thunder - The Movie" celebrates SAXON's 30th anniversary. It not only has contributions from members of SAXON, past and present, but also from the likes of Lars Ulrich (METALLICA); Lemmy, "Fast" Eddie Clarke, Phil Campbell, Mikkey Dee (MOTÖRHEAD); Harvey Goldsmith, Danko Jones, Doro Pesch and many, many others. It will also feature plenty of rare archive material and previously unseen concert footage, from the classic 1980s lineup to the brilliant St. George's Day show in 2008 and Wacken Open Air in 2009. A special limited edition of "Heavy Metal Thunder - The Movie" will contain a feature-length documentary, at least two never-before-seen concert films and plenty of revealing extra content.

MUNICIPAL WASTE Members Comment On One-Time Performance With BILLY MILANO - Nov. 20, 2009
Former M.O.D./S.O.D. frontman Billy Milano joined MUNICIPAL WASTE on stage at Red 7 in Austin, Texas on November 12, 2009 to perform a version of the S.O.D. classic "United Forces".

Fan-filmed video footage of this unique one-time collaboration can be viewed below.

Commented MUNICIPAL WASTE drummer Dave Witte: "S.O.D. is such an important band for the crossover movement, pioneers in fact.

"We've played 'United Forces' on and off for over two years while on tour and made the decision a few months ago to retire it. When we heard we had a chance to play it with Billy singing, we knew we had to do one more time and retire it the right way."

Guitarist Ryan Waste added: "I was shooting the shit with my buddy Felix Griffin when this big dude comes up to us and sticks out his hand. He looked familiar but I couldn't place it. Ryan, he said, it's Milano. I heard Billy lived in Austin and managed a bar down the street but I was still surprised to see him.

"The WASTE had covered 'United Forces' by S.O.D. in the past and it seemed too perfect to play it that night with Billy Milano on vox. After tracking him down back at his bar, Felix and I convinced him to come sing the song. It went over great with the New Yorker's brand of stand=up comedy banter being the icing on the cake."

"Massive Aggressive", the new album from MUNICIPAL WASTE, sold around 2,100 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD landed at No. 10 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

"Massive Aggressive" was released on August 25 via Earache Records. According to a press release, the CD "brings the promise of the band's most ferocious and most focused album of their career." With such ferocity flowing through the whole of the album, the group knew it needed the right visuals to complement the vibe of the music. MUNICIPAL WASTE vocalist Tony Foresta claims that the only man who could get that imagery just right was Andrei Bouzikov, the artist responsible for the cover to 2007's "The Art Of Partying".

"Wrong Answer", the new video from MUNICIPAL WASTE, was filmed in New York City with director David Brodsky (SUICIDE SILENCE, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, IN THIS MOMENT) and his crew at MyGoodEye, is said to have been inspired by '70s game shows, gore, and more.

LITA FORD's Husband JIM GILLETTE Receives Birthday Present From QUEENSRŸCHE Frontman - Nov. 20, 2009
'80s hard rock queen Lita Ford — who is currently on tour with QUEENSRŸCHE — has issued the following update:

"[Lita's husband] Jim [Gillette of NITRO fame] received an extra-special for his birthday last week (November 10). During the show in Houma, [QUEENSRŸCHE singer] Geoff Tate sang him 'Happy Birthday' on stage."

Jim commented: "We are honored and touched that he (Geoff) would do this.

"QUEENSRŸCHE has been the utmost in cool, professional, and hands down most awesome band to tour with. We couldn't have asked for a better situation.

"Geoff is one of a couple singers that inspired me to learn all I could about the human voice. The QUEENSRŸCHE demo with 'Queen of the Reich' changed my life. Without that, I might not have met my wife...I might not be where I am today.

"Geoff, the band, and Susan Tate, the manager, have been more cool to us than we could have imagined.

"Long live the 'RŸCHE!"

THE HUMAN ABSTRACT Parts Ways With Singer, Seeks Replacement - Nov. 20, 2009
Los Angeles-based technical progressive metallers THE HUMAN ABSTRACT have issued the following update:

"First and foremost, THE HUMAN ABSTRACT will no longer be working with Nathan Ells [vocals]. We want to wish Nathan the very best in his future endeavors. With that being said, we are now looking for our new lead singer.

"To clue everyone in, our new singer must be into Chuck Norris, Van Damme and, most importantly, Steven Seagal movies.

"We will be holding public auditions, so if you have what it takes please reach us at THAvocalistsearch@gmail.com and we will respond to you with more information.

"But that's not all!

"We want to formally announce greater news! We are working hand in hand with A.J. Minette on this next record which is well in the works. A.J. was the original guitarist alongside Dean [Herrera] for the band. Mr. Minette will be part of the writing force and will serve as producer for the third album.

"We are tremendously excited to be working together again. A.J. wanted to add, 'Let me be the first to say…FIRST POST. NO ONE CARES. VAN FLIP.'

"The process of completing this album has been prolonged and will take quite some time. The last couple of months have been spent trekking the great forests in our region, chanting great Orca hymns under the moon light, searching for guidance.

"It is what we have to do in order to write you all a classical masterpiece of epic proportions. We have a couple songs in the works that are well underway to being completed. In fact we just finished recording a demo with A.J.

"Finally, we want to go ahead and finish off by thanking you guys, the fans, that allow us to travel and share our music worldwide. Frank Herbert once said, 'Without change, something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens. The sleeper must awaken.'"

"Counting Down The Days", the latest video from Los THE HUMAN ABSTRACT, can be viewed below. The song comes off the band's sophomore full-length album, "Midheaven", which came out in August 2008 via Hopeless Records. The CD "follows a full cycle of man while he makes his ascent and discoveries and is eventually brought down by his lust of conquest and greed," said Ells at the time of the album's release. "Basically we wanted to have this album be cohesive all the way through. We came up with themes for each song and then wrote the songs like we were doing a film score and try to capture the mood musically for what each theme represents."

Although the initial sessions for "Midheaven" were helmed by veteran producer Toby Wright (METALLICA, SLAYER, ALICE IN CHAINS, SOULFLY, FEAR FACTORY), the CD was completed with a different producer and Wright's name was "wiped off all credits," according to drummer Brett Powell.

THE HUMAN ABSTRACT's Hopeless Records debut, "Nocturne", was released in August 2006.
