THE FACELESS: 'Planetary Duality' First-Week Sales Revealed - Nov. 19, 2008
"Planetary Duality", the new album from the Los Angeles, California-based based progressive death metal band THE FACELESS, sold around 5,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 119 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD debuted at No. 2 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

An e-card for "Planetary Duality" can be found at this location. The CD was released on November 11 via Sumerian Records.

Regarding the concept of the new record, guitarist Michael Keene previously said, "There are a lot of underlying themes within the album title, the idea that these inter-dimensional beings are from another planet similar to our own and a lot of the development on earth is directly related to their influence. There is also the other layer of it, the idea that we're only aware of the one dimension we exist in but there's more to our planet than that."

Other songtitles that appear on the CD include "The Ancient Covenant", "Xenochrist" and the two-part title track, "Planetary Duality Pt. 1" and "Planetary Duality Pt. 2". Speaking on the meaning of "The Ancient Covenant", Keene said, "'The Ancient Covenant' is about an agreement between man and the inter-dimensional beings, sort of similar to the rules of engagement so to speak, between these two life forms."

THE FACELESS' debut album, "Akeldama", was released in 2006 via Sumerian Records.

Awesome album, and definitely a progression from Akeldama. The Ancient Covenant and XenoChrist are my top 2 picks. I could have done without the robo-vocals on a few of the tracks, but they do add some flare to the above mentioned songs.

I agree, they've definitely progressed and become much more mature songwriters, instead of basically releasing the same record twice (like Beneath the Massacre has). I rather liked the robot vocals. Also, while having clean vocals, keys, and core breakdowns, it still manages to be brutal, technical and kickass. Take that, Cryptopsy.

I'm glad you mentioned the clean vocals. They totally slipped my mind. I thought they were a nice addition, and done very tastefully. I'd say The Faceless definitely beat the sophomore slump.

though I'm not a huge fan of the clean vocals on this record, mainly because they sound forced and out of key, but when they put that robot synth effect on the clean a and make it sound like Cynic, those parts I like! Just the regular clean vocals with no robot Cynic effects I don't like. Fortunatly there are so very few moments on the album that have straight clean vocals that the album isn't ruined, making the record highly enjoyable. With the exception of of those very few straight clean vocal parts this is a damn near computer perfect album! Great job landing so far up the billboard chart guys! I'm impressed, all without a video pushing those first week sales. I'll be at your show soon to see if you can pull it off live! :)

how does this sell over 5k and the new behemoth sells only 1600? behemoth is much more of a well-known name than the faceless.

just as good as the first cd.

"Planetary Duality" shows how much they have improved as musicians and songwriters..

This album shits all over Akeldama without a doubt. I had zero interest in listening to that again after first listen, where this one's a much more interesting listening with all the progressive elements they've added. The songs don't all run together like Akeldama, and that goes a long way in appreciating an album.
