Due in April 2009 via Rhino, QUEENSRŸCHE's twelfth studio album, "American Soldier", is a concept effort which finds the band once again tackling some heavy subject matter, this time focusing on telling the story of war from a firsthand perspective. Singer and chief songwriter Geoff Tate has spent the last few years conducting extensive interviews with veterans and has crafted their thoughts into this epic tale. "American Soldier" examines American wars from World War II through Iraq from the viewpoint of those in the trenches and on the frontlines. Following the album's release, QUEENSRŸCHE plans to present tracks from the album live on an extensive spring tour of the U.S., with international dates to follow later in 2009. The first date of the tour will be a hometown gig at Seattle's Snoqualmie Casino on April 16.

Other songtitles set to appear on "American Soldier" include "Unafraid", "100 Mile Stare", "At Thirty Thousand Feet", "Man Down" and "Remember Me".

really after Rage For Order, but they still bring it live. I like some of Mindcrime I, and I know it's a critical darling for its whole concept thing, but to me they were already starting to fall off with that album. Their original EP was a bona fide trend-setter, and The Warning was very strong too, but they got too into concepts and style---in some ways even right after the EP (with the Floyd/Wall producer, etc.)---and they forgot how, initially, they were just a great, very haunting, intricate-yet-powerful metal band. Wish they could have held onto that vibe a little longer. Not surprisingly, these days the masses have forgotten the hits of Empire, but the metal fans---old and new---still celebrate the early stuff.

I had high hopes that Mindcrime II might be a bit of a return to form, but yikes . . . weak, even with the Dio guest spot. And I could care less that it was produced old school style, I just wanted some strongs songs, and a vibe that channeled the strength of their earliest stuff. Instead we got some kind of goofy, modern rock opera rife with Tate's ham-brained political blatherings.

That said I still acknowledge their sheer talent and look forward to their new album with optimism---I'll always give them ashot.

And I don't want them to repeat the past---just to reflect what made them stand out in the first place.

Hang in there Philly, there may yet be more U.S. dates. Boston all the way north to Canada, got shafted too. Most likely they'll be back, though. And as for you, JOE BLOW, every single Queensryche show I've ever seen has sold out. And that's a lot. Seems like most Ryche fans DO still care. hahahaha. :)

I guess he's the only one who wrote the music for this one seeing that everyone else had other projects going on the past couple of years.

I am a long time QR fan and this will be the first time I will not be getting their new cd. The short clip of the new song did not sound promising, and whenever bands release a teaser of new material they pick something that will excite their fans, I was left unimpressed. Sometimes the past needs to remain the past. Queensryche are done and it is us the fans who hold them up because we are enamored with what they once were hoping they will return, they have not and will not, they are gone and now i have officially checked out of the search for the Reich.

has been at the center of QR for a while now and the music has suffered greatly. I liked it much better when the bold political message was actually in the music instead of hearing Tate rant all the time on stage, putting the focus on himself instead of the music

I think the album after Empire is where they started slipping. Hear In The Now Frontier was awful and every album after that has just been very hard to listen to.

Then they released every song they ever sang live. Operation Mindcrime II had the most God awful production and what the hell happened to Scott Rockenfield's drumming?

Was he asleep when they did that cd?

Guys - Come on, no Detroit date?

Grand Rapids is well over 4 hrs away, same as Chicago ...
You guys played a low key gig with little publicity @ the Emerald Theatre, Mt. Clemens last year, what about coming back again ...?

Cheers,

Al

I agree dude..I actually like Promised Land, but they really hit the wall with "Hear In the now frontier"..There's one good song on there (Sign of the Times) and that's marginal..Empire was good, but commercial..I was a little disappointed with it at first after the shitkicker that Mindcrime was..I warmed up to Empire after a while though and there really is a lot of good songs on there, albeit SAFE songs..Mindcrime is one of the few perfect metal albums of all time..They really peaked with that..powerful, melodic, haunting, intelligent..just a gem..any self-respecting metal aficianado should own it..Their mid to late '90s output up till now, not so much...

is anyone else a bit disappointed they aren't playing anything off of Operation Mindcrime? In that radio spot it said that the first suite was songs from Rage, second suite was songs from the new album, and the 3rd suite was songs from Empire...
