BLACK LIGHT BURNS' WES BORLAND Issues Apology And Explanation To European Fans - June 30, 2008
"Cruel Melody", the 2007 debut album from BLACK LIGHT BURNS, the new band led by former LIMP BIZKIT guitarist Wes Borland, received its long-awaited European release on June 20 via Edel. Wes has since issued the following update regarding the release:

"Dear Europe, it seems we just keep blowing it with you. First the album doesn't come out for a year, then our summer festival dates get rickety, and finally the worst thing ever happens: A person who will remain unnamed that works for our label sent the Wal-Mart version [Wal-Mart is a chain of conservative corporate stores in the U.S. that only carries albums which have had all profanity removed] of our master to Edel (our record label in Europe). That version has all of the cuss words censored, and that's what you've been hearing if you bought the album in Europe. I cannot begin to fathom how a mistake like this could have slipped through so many fingers unnoticed, but somehow it has and I am as disgusted and disappointed by it as you must be. After discussing several solutions, the one that has come to make the most sense is to create a special website for the people who bought the European version of the record. Once the site is launched, in the very near future, you'll be able to download high-quality versions of the songs on 'Cruel Melody' that were censored. Please accept our sincere apologies and know that you shouldn't have to be dealing with a mistake like this. It is absolutely the most incredible blunder I've ever seen in my life, and had someone thought to actually send me the record to approve before it went out, none of this would have happened. I continue to be more angry than I've ever been in my life about this. Every day the state of my mind has actually gotten worse instead of getting better, and when I allow myself to think about it for more than a few seconds, it makes me want to go on a killing spree. I know that our solution doesn't make up for what's been done, but hopefully it will soften the blow and you will let us off the hook. Nothing like this will EVER HAPPEN AGAIN. I'm so sorry, the site is coming soon. Thanks for your support."

BLACK LIGHT BURNS will release "Cover Your Heart and The Anvil Pants Odyssey", a combination CD and DVD package on August 5, 2008 on I Am: Wolfpack/YMA Music Group.

Packed with reinterpreted songs of bands including DURAN DURAN ("Hungry Like the Wolf"), THE JESUS LIZARD ("The Art of Self Defense"), SISTERS OF MERCY ("Lucretia My Reflection") and PJ HARVEY ("Rid of Me"), "Cover Your Heart" is a deconstruction and reconstruction of music that the band has loved and appreciated.

"This is a short list of just some of our favorite songs," Wes explains. "It was really a culmination of years of ideas for cover songs and never getting around to doing it. But as soon as the thought of a covers album came about, it was like pulling a cork out of a dam. We had to stick it back in as fast as possible because we were soaked in like four seconds."

A fascinating spread of different textures and sounds, from the rhythmic percussive/guitar aggression of LOVE AND ROCKETS' "So Alive" to the dark and twisted retelling of FIONA APPLE's "On the Bound" to the punk spittle and squelch of IGGY & THE STOOGES' "Search and Destroy", "Cover Your Heart" is a content-oriented piece that serves as an ultimate bridge between their 2007 debut "Cruel Melody" and the new album, due in early 2009. "A couple of songs don't stray too far off the path of the originals, but most are tremendously skewed," he says. "It's so much fun to take a song from one of your heroes and mix your own filth into it... you know, really create a Frankenstein's monster of a song. It's the most fun I've ever had making an album." The covers are coupled with, as Wes describes, "seven instrumentals cut from 'Cruel Melody'," adding yet another dimension to the album. "The Anvil Pants Odyssey", the DVD component of the package, contains a 100-minute tour documentary "filled with behind-the-scenes footage from BLB touring, "Behind The Lie: Making the 'Lie' Music Video", plus three music videos from their debut album ("Lie", "Mesopotamia" and "4 Walls").

He should apologize for helping to unleash Limp Bizkit on the masses... blah blah blah.

In all serious though I wonder if this is just a convenient excuse to get more web traffic. If not then kudos for him for trying to make it right.

I saw a BLB video awhile back, and all I can say is, this guy wants to be Trent Reznor.

Look it up on YouTube. I don't care enough to find a link.

You're so mad that you want to...Go on a killing spree...? Your album isn't THAT IMPORTANT, dude. Go to your job at the record label and take someone out, then. Then try a real prison and see if it was worth it...

and please do another George Micheal cover song! Just make sure the video shows your cool contact lenses so we remember how 'real' you are.

See Wes, here's the problem. For many years there never had to be two versions of the record, because great bands like Sabbath, AC/DC, Priest and Zep could put out kick ass albums that never had any profanity. The record companies would never put it out. Then you get the whole PMRC hearings in '85 (which thanks to my mom's jhe ob at the time I got to sit in on!!!), we end up with that fucked up sticker which now allowed bands to put out all manner of bullshit and hide behind a sticker. I've got an idea for you Wes. A simple word called innuendo. Say the f word without actually saying it, if your smart enough. Then you don't have to worry about anyone censoring you. I'll bet 80% of the best all time metal tracks that most of us can agree on don't need a sticker. How much profanity did Maiden ever use? Mercyful Fate?

To those who keep talking about Limp Bizkit... the band blows and has been dead for some 5 years now so why do you guys keep talking about it? Why dont you people who speak about Limp Bizkit admit it... you miss Fred Durst... If any of you were offered a chance to play in a band and make millions of dollars no matter what kind of music it would be... you would do it... so shut up about it all. Let Wes do what he wants even if his old band sucked he as well as the other two musicians in Limp Bizkit could actually play their instruments... the real reason Limp sucked was Fred Durst and the whole hip-hop thing too but seriously there is nothing about Black Light Burns thats sounds like Limp Bizkit nor are their any plans for what appears to be some of you guys favorite band LIMP BIZKIT to do anything in the future. So shut up about them and aget over it.

They shouldn't have released a clean Wal-Mart version in the first place. Say Fuck Wal-Mart and get some integrity already.

BTW the album rocks. Can't wait for the next one.

Integrity doesnt pay the bills my friend and sadly places like Wal-Mart, Target, and Best Buy are the only stores the masses are buying music at. That is why you see a lot of albums just being released there from other major acts these days.
