TARJA TURUNEN: In Writing Mode - July 1, 2008
Former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen has issued the following update:

"I have been spending a couple of weeks writing new songs with my friends here in Antigua, in the beautiful island surroundings. The result is telling of the great and inspiring atmosphere we have had. I mean, the songs are REALLY amazing. I feel that the process of writing songs this time is much easier than it was for 'My Winter Storm'. Might be that the songwriters already know me and there is not such a pressure on us than we had with a debut album. Luckily the time is also on our side since we have still quite some time to come up with more killer songs. I also found the courage to come up with my own songs and ideas, which is making me very, very happy. Last time, during 'My Winter Storm' process, I was telling you the name of the songs and some parts of their lyrics. It was very nice and motivating to read your comments and wild guesses about the meaning of the songs. So, this time I will do it again. Here goes the first title: 'The Crying Moon'. This new song we did with Michelle and Kiko and we borrowed a wonderful riff from Mr. Doug Wimbish that I heard during the last tour and that I loved deeply. I am still searching for a title for the album, but little by little, all the pieces are falling into the right place and the idea is already turning in my head."

Tarja's most recent solo album, "My Winter Storm", was released in the U.S. at the end of February. The CD was made available in two exclusive U.S. versions via Fontana: the standard and deluxe editions (the latter featuring extra tracks not released elsewhere, as well visually stimulating bonus DVD content).

"My Winter Storm" was produced by Daniel Presley (FAITH NO MORE, JEWEL, THE BREEDERS), who has been joined in the studio by a truly stellar line-up of musicians: Doug Wimbish on bass (LIVING COLOUR, ANNIE LENNOX, JOE SATRIANI, JEFF BECK, MADONNA, ROLLING STONES), Alex Scholpp on electric guitars (FARMER BOYS) and Earl Harvin on drums (SEAL, PET SHOP BOYS, AIR), a player personally selected by Tarja after she saw him stealing the show at a SEAL concert. Keyboards and programming, meanwhile, are being provided by Torsten Stenzel, whose previous credits include NELLY FURTADO, MOBY, TINA TURNER, VANESSA MAE and more.

Title suggestions for the album:

* Blah
* Meh
* Snooze
* Snore

etc.

Sorry Tarja, I love you but the first album only had the first single that really made its way to my playlist. It's not heavy (metal) enough for me. Quite watered down on the guitars and stuff. Your old band has the bassist and great musicians to kick some ass in all directions, even on some odd songs such as The Islander, know what I mean?

Also, that Cooper cover, Poison?? Why? Only Coop can sing that song the right way in my opinion. If you want to do a cover, do something challenging enough like some old maiden or something, you know? Rime of the Ancient Mariner... Maybe some Dream Theater or King Diamond (The Oath), or anything that requires your great vocal range, but that can also live with your accent as well.

By the by, I hate amy whinehouse. Could someone remove her from any international press? Why is the critics always fond of her shitness music and the medias all over her drug problems? She's ugly as fuck and oh yeah, she's terribly FuGLy!!! F*ck her talent, she should just vanish forever.

...we must be soulmates, because I've never agreed more with anyone else!!!! Tarja surely has talent, but her first solo album puts me to sleep every time. Also, I took a look at her concert that she made available in HQ, and what a shame... The audience was made of 14-years-old girls only, and the concert had no power, it was boring as much as the album. Dress changes didn't raise the quality level, I'm afraid. And finally... Why, why, WHY singing Nightwish songs?! If she doesn't stop doing that, she will always be only "the EX-Nightwish singer".

I really hope that the second album gets better...

Does that consist of her lying on the beach while actual musicians do the work? Yes.

Well what she means by writing her album with friends is she's on holiday with the writers she's hired to write her next album. She mentioned in another interview she'd hired 2 writers for her next album she was going on holiday with them. I still dont respect her trying to have a metal career with out a band and with hired writer thats not what this genre is about at all!
I was really looking forward to her having a glamours classic career, oh well stupid husband strikes again lol

As far as I know it consisted of her and her husband lying on the beach sunbathing and having fun in the water. They were at a place called Cocos Antigua or at least they were at the Cocos beach sunday, a few hours before I went back to Norway. They were laying right in front of me and I thought that it couldn't be Tarja and was a bit scared to walk up and ask if it really was her and then getting a no. And then I left and I come home and see it really was her. Shit! Lost the chance to get the signature of one of my fav singers. But at least I saw her in bikini :P

Well, the last album has already some melodies where the lyrics seem to be written by some children. Maybe this time she comes with a serious material, cause her debut album won some fans only because her voice, not for some incredible lyrics. Excellent singer, but come on.... maybe this time will take her job seriously, not just writting some wods and say: 'look, what a great song! '

I mean, I am a tarja turunen fan, but I'm tired of these sweet messages: 'Yes, I'll write my own lyrics' and then to read in an interview that x melodies of the album were written by y, not by her...

Hey, it ain't metal, but Iliked the new album. Just coz I like people like Accept or Maiden doesn't mean I can't like something pretty and delicate like Tarja as well.

Though to be fair, some lyrics were lacking.

Aprently she didnt write anything on her last album apart from the song oasis. It's ok to like metal and other geners BUT this is a news site for metal and heavy rock. I'd stop reading this if there was news about Avril and Ashlee Simpson, would defeat the piont of this site.
