DUFF MCKAGAN Doesn't Rule Out GUNS N' ROSES Reunion - July 2, 2008
Metro from Philadelphia's 94 WYSP radio station spoke with VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES bassist Duff McKagan on Tuesday (July 1).

According to antiMUSIC, Duff was asked during the interview about Matt Sorum's comments that a GUNS N' ROSES reunion is inevitable. Duff said, in part, "there is no backroom talks, there never has been… but anything can happen. You see all these bands getting back together. I guess hell froze over for THE EAGLES and they did it. But it's not something I count on, or even need in my life."

Duff was also questioned about Matt's recent statement regarding the new VELVET REVOLVER singer search. WYSP's Metro stated, "Matt, your drummer, this week, said that there is actually a guy who you are quote, massaging, and, if you will, sort of checking it out, feeling it out, letting him work with you." Duff responded, "I wouldn't use, probably the words Matt used, but there is a guy we feel is pretty close to what we are looking for. And he's a great guy, amazing singer..."

How many times are we gonna hear about a possible GNR "reunion"? Enough talk, either do it, or shut the fuck up about it.

COMMENT | Well, that would rule out

Axl Rose, Sebastian Bach and Chris Cornell because of the great guy comment. May not rule out Lenny Kravitz. Don't think the record company would allow it to be John Corabi because of what happened when he fronted Crue. I still wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be one of the American Idol contestents, either Michael Johns or David Cook. Personally, I think Kravitsz or Cook would be the best choices. You just can't go with a nobody. Kravitz is at the same point in his career when Hagar joined Van Halen, he's a great songwriter, and give s a third guitar to VR. Cook would be an obvious cash grab choice, but his songwriting ability is unknown. Anyway, if they don't announce anything in the next week or so, it gives Cook and John more credibility, because neither can do shit until after the AI tour. Anyway, I think VR and AI are on the same label.

This is not news.

Duff is a yes man.

And for people who rip on Axl, without him there wouldn't have been a GNR, or Appetite For Destruction (which he wrote the majority of and required it to be re-recorded for a more live, less "produced" sound of the first recording).

I loved the original GNR but they are gone. Too bad, so sad, quit crying.

Although i'm curious to hear Chinese Democracy, if it's released. The leaks don't sound like Guns N' Roses but they're still great songs and that's what matters.

Velvet Revolver is doing almost the same sound old guns used to make, and that's cool for a while but sometimes it gets boring and we need more. UYI were great, apart from the fillers and some shitty songs. I'd love to see guns reunite with IZZY and Adler.
I believe it will happen, maybe not in the near future but someday it will happen.

And by the way, Duff seems like a cool dude.

I wouldn't use the word "massaging" either, unless it's Gina Gershon. But since we're talking about a "great guy", that's clearly out of the question.

DUFF SAYS, "You see all these bands getting back together. I guess hell froze over for THE EAGLES and they did it. But it's not something I count on, or even need in my life."

that Last part really says a lot, no? doesn't count on it, doesn't really need it in his life. hmmm, read between the lines a bit, and to ME, it sounds like he's not that keen on having the unpredictability of AXL ROSE back as a bandmate, or working with him. yes yes yes, $$$$$ will make anyone pretty much say SURE, to anything----but I HIGHLY doubt it'll happen anytime soon if at all. who knows. they're working with Some new singer, but I seriously question the guy who wrote it might be David Cook or David Johns from A. Idol---they've just started their tour for the summer months, and before that, were rehearsing for a while. Yes, prob in LA, and possibly one of them would have a day or 3 to go away for an Audition if Slash & Co. called on them, but I dont' see either fronting VR. I could be wrong.

like one poster wrote, enough already. let's wait for Chinese Democracy, which sounds like it is GettingCloser To Being Released, and if a tour follows. Any POSSIBLE GnR reunion (with Matt Sorum, NOT Adler---I'm not sure his physical skills are back to par---maybe they are--?) would be Next year at best I think.

He hasn't had one since GNR broke up. Unless being a bum counts as a career.

the closer chinese democracy draws the more you hear people wanting a piece of the pie. I guess they always hoped axl would not be able to pull it off! but what if?! the leaks are pretty solid, the band is awesome live and given the right deal axl might have a joker in his hand that the other gun's dream about.

They gave Duff a number of lead singer options, and when they mentioned Kravitz, he got real cryptic. man, that would be so cool.

Anyone who knows Kravitz knows he's about as much a frontman as Steven Adler is. Or the loser from Pretty Boy Floyd.

Having an American Idol contestant as front man would destroy any credibility these guys have left, really can't imagine that happening

As for GN'R...Chinese Democracy isn't a Slash kind of album so nothing will happen until thats released and toured (and slated by critics which will break Axl). Duff and Matt are followers, the issue is Axl v. Slash

(reply from) ilikegrunge I BEILIVE SILVERTIDE HAS ENOUGH MATERIAL FOR TWO ALBUMS done . BUT THEY ARE HAVING THEIR OWN VERSION OF "CHINESE DEMOCRACY" RECORD COMPANY BULLSHIT. BUT WOULD HATE TO SEE HIM AND PERRI SEPERATE. THEY MAKE A GOOD COMBO IN SILVERTIDE. JUST SAD TO SEE SOMETHING GOOD GO TO WASTE.

Lenny Kravitz wouldn't front VR, he has too much talent it would be wasted with VR. I'm not saying they're a cr*p band it just wouldn't fit together, Lenny's too eclectic, VR are rooted in hard rock and thats it.

As for anybody from any reality show, I doubt it. They wouldn't be real enough for Slash.

I like what Duff said, he wasn't use the words that Matt does. Probably 'cause Matt talks the biggest load of ego-crap. Sorry Matt I'm sure you're a sweet guy.

Sweet news! I think I actually saw somewhere that Perri is gonna be in both bands. I hope that's true.

Also, Walt Lafty has a new demo disc of acoustic songs out. It ain't half bad!
