SCOTT WEILAND Sets Date For Next Solo Album
- July 2, 2008
|
|
|
The Pulse of Radio reports that STONE TEMPLE PILOTS vocalist Scott Weiland has set October 7 as the release date for his yet-to-be-titled second solo album, according to Absolute Punk. Weiland has been working on the project for several years and will issue it through his own label, Softdrive Records. The record will follow up his 1998 solo debut, "12 Bar Blues", and Weiland told The Pulse of Radio the new one is a natural progression. "It'll definitely be a sonic journey like the first album was, a little bit more focused since I'm not on a narcotic journey like I was on the last one. But, you know, still sort of all over the map, because my influences are so wide and varied."
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS reunited in April for a major summer tour after a six-year hiatus. The band rose to stardom in the 1990s, but its career was derailed by Weiland's drug problems and arrests.
Weiland spent a month in rehab earlier this year, following an arrest last November on a DUI charge.
The singer and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS drummer Eric Kretz were recently sued by the group's label, Atlantic Records, who allege that the pair have issued threats to stop performing unless their recording contract is changed.
STP performs on Wednesday (July 2) in Morrison, Colorado.

12 Bar Blues was actually a pretty solid cd if you're into that. I wish this guy would just rock the fuck out all the time and leave it @ that. It's what he does best. I'm sure his new release will have high points. Good luck Scott, glad to hear you're sober. Saw STP last month and they tore shit up.

I think its awfully ambitious of him to assume he'll be alive October 7th....I predict a posthumous release.

I hope that this doesn't divert too much focus away from doing a new STP record. I figure the guys probably have a lot of material sitting around, since they were forced by Atlantic to turn Shangri La Dee Da into a normal-length album even though it was supposed to be a double album.
Atlantic also killed the documentary and book that were to coincide with that album's release - all of which are factors that add up to why that album feels so imbalanced. Imagine chopping Physical Graffiti in half...
It's easy to make fun of Weiland but I think that the people talking shit about him are ultimately even easier to make fun of. Talk shit after you've released 5 of the best albums of the last 20 years...

What about a new STP record instead? That would be cool. Sangrila was kinda weak, except a couple of songs, but core, purple and NÂș4 are great albuns.

I love both VR records and the first 4 STP albums. But he's still a shitty human being and a pathetic junkie. So my prediction stands. To have been in a band with the GNR guys (who rewrote the book on drug and alcohol abuse) and not have learned how to sober up and keep your career on track shows how stupid he truly is.A waste of talent.

I got an ideia for a bonus cover track for the new album, what about amy winehouse "rehab"? that would kickass!
Now serious he's an amazing artist and singer... and i admire his work. we should just leave his personal addictions alone!

saw them in Houston last weekend and to me it didn't look like Weiland has kicked the drug problem. He looked like skeletor, couldn't really form a coherent thought, and sounded like shit. Highly disappointed in the show.

I don't understand why people read an article about someone that they don't like and then leave bashing/negative comments. Doesn't Scott Weiland have the right to live his life the way that he wants without being judged? We all do right? If not, we should. STP is fuckin awesome and Scott is talented beyond belief...at least that's what I think...see I am a fan who reads articles about the one's that I love not hate.
