METALLICA 'Death Magnetic' Box Set Detailed
- July 2, 2008
|
|
According to the Norwegian music retailer Platekompaniet, METALLICA will release a limited-edition two-CD, one-DVD, deluxe "Death Magnetic" box set in September. The box set will be packaged as a coffin box and will also include an exclusive t-shirt, flag and USB memory stick. The details of the deluxe box set are as follows: * 1 "Death Magnetic" CD (exclusive digipack version) * 1 CD with demos of songs from "Death Magnetic" (10 songs) * 1 "Making of 'Death Magnetic'" DVD featuring never-before-seen material * 1 exclusive "Death Magnetic" t-shirt (only available with the box set) * 1 "Death Magnetic" flag * A set of "Death Magnetic" guitar picks * 1 fold-out, coffin box, poster with pictures of the band members * 1 USB memory stick with METALLICA logo (enables digital download of "Death Magnetic" album) A Finnish retailer called Record Shop X has listed Wednesday, September 17 as the release date for METALLICA's ninth studio album, "Death Magnetic". Although an official release date has yet to be announced by the band or its label, the Finnish date would indicate that the album would arrive in the U.S. on Tuesday, September 16, with most of continental Europe getting the CD one day earlier on September 15. Some countries, including Germany, Austria and Switzerland, would see the record issued on Friday, September 12. Tuesdays are when almost all CDs are issued in the U.S. The members of METALLICA have been saying in interviews that the album will arrive in September. "Death Magnetic" was produced by METALLICA and Rick Rubin, and marks the recording debut of bassist Robert Trujillo, who joined the lineup in 2003 shortly after the last METALLICA album, "St. Anger", was completed. METALLICA will hit some European festivals starting in mid-July. The band's next U.S. date is the one-day Ozzfest on August 9 in Dallas, with a full North American tour slated to begin in October. A METALLICA cover of IRON MAIDEN's "Remember Tomorrow" will appear on a compilation of MAIDEN covers being given away by England's Kerrang! magazine with its July 16 issue. Other artists contributing MAIDEN covers to the collection include MACHINE HEAD, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, COHEED AND CAMBRIA and DREAM THEATER.
(Thanks: Metallica XXX)

Last 3 albums gave them "Point of No Return" Status. Why would this disc be good when the last 3 were shit. Kirk is the only reason Metallica is still alive.

was supposed to be coming out I called Record World every week for months until It was finally released. I HATED it, it was a letdown - because of my expectations at the time.
NOW, I love that album, as do most people who hated it at first, I think.
Point it, this album won't be what we hope it will, but it could be pretty damn good compared to the other crap they have given us.

Even those exchange rate dont seem right because a single cd is 149 there and in us terms would be 20 at most and more like 12 or 13. here. So the box sets wont be all that expensive

Everyone here is basically thinking/ saying the same thing- Metallica screwed us with St Anger when we all thought it would kick arse and we're not prepared to get our hopes up only to be disappointed (yet again). It is a defense mechanism. That's why every night real Metallica fans around the world say the following prayer: Dear (Phantom) Lord, May Death Magnetic have the Razor- blade riffage of Kill 'Em All, the melodic tones of Ride The Lightning, the EPIC MAJESTY of Master of Puppets, the complexity of ...And Justice For All, and the commercial/ critical success of the Black Album. Lead them not into the temptations of Load and Re-Load, let them not pray to St Anger. AMEN!

While I agree that Metallica's musical output since 1990 is pretty awful, I don't think it's right to call them irrelevant like Axl Rose. At least they've still been making music and bashing away. Yes, the albums are pretty lousy, but they are still relevant. I also agree that they no longer are the band they once were and are more interested in making money than good music. Nothing wrong with making money, but this box set thing is NOT something they would have done in the eighties. Yes, Binge and Purge was a box set, but it was solely about the music and shows, not a bunch of trix and gimmicks. I still hope the new album kicks ass, but I'm not holding my breath.

.....if the cd in the above ad costs 149.00 (no matter what currencty), and the cd alone in North America will be about 15 bucks, then the coffin deal there being 929.00, here will be about 100 bucks. It ain't fucking rocket science, but no matter how you slice it, it's a goddamn ripoff.
I agree with whomever said it above....if you get the cd with the set, why the fuck do you need the digital download with the USB stick? that makes absolutely no sense. The demo cd will be pretty cool. The DVD of the St Anger rehearsal session was better than the actual disc, so the demos would be cool to have. Bittorrent here we come!
But unless you are 14 years old or live in a goddamn trailer, you don't need the shitty flag either. This set is obviously geared towards the next generation of Metallica fans, not the Kill/Ride/Puppets generation.
The KISS comparisons are completely warranted. Can't wait for my "barium up your ass" Metallic-enema, coming to a pharmacy near you!!!

"binge and purge was about the music and shows, not about the money". Did you buy the set? was the Angry Guy stensil about the music? I guess you must have enjoyed tracing it on all your home ec binders in summer school. I bought it too, but fuck, man, it was not worth the $100 I paid for it. Especially since back when it came out, it was on VHS.
SHYTE!!! They should have been cool about it and sold the DVD's on their own, instead of making the hardcore fans re-buy the whole goddamn thing. Which I didn't. I already had my Angry Guy stensil.

i agree that they are not the same band they were in the 80's but i dont think its so much to do with them selling out more to do with that it has something to do with them getting old. fucking look at them, they look like they are coming apart at the seems. they are no longer the young, energetic kids they used to be. i am a metallica fan and pray to the metal gods that death magnetic will at least be worth listening to. nothing more. and on the off chance that this album will be "like oh my godh its sooooo amazing" then i may think bout getting the box. i have binge and purge (in vhs) and like it, i payed 50 buks for it a while back (thats bout 25 u.s.). so i may add to my collection

OK, here's the bashing.
I want the CD. I'll take the DVD and the CD of demos.
A folding cardboard coffin? an 'exclusive' t-shirt? guitar picks? a flag? Is every Metallica fan 13 years old? What F-n value is that?
a memory stick with the songs in a digital format? You can buy one at Fry's for under $5 (512mb). If I have a CD, it'll take only a few minutes to make my own mp3 copies.
Another way of soaking the fans for a few more dollars.
Guess I'll buy the standard CD and steal the rest online.
I thought the last album held hope that they'd speed up and change things up ffor the better (even with the multiple intros and endings where it sounded like they couldn't decide which version to use).

seriously, i see loads and loads of guys COMPLAINING about Metallica not being the same band as back in the day... HELLOO take a look around, time has flown by since back there, they have changed, i guess you guys have not:P if some beast metalhead that has stood still since 80's in his head came over to me and said metallicas newer music was crap, i would give him this peptalk here and kick him in the nuts... go find something else to listen to then, they changed, get over it... now, i am one of those lucky enough to enjoy all albums by Metallica, and i am looking forward to the concert of theirs here in norway the 16th, and i have been waiting for this album for a long while. I seriously hope that Metallica has fooled all of you guys being negative and suspicious about the box thing, i hope they deliver something mindblowing here, tho i do doubt it really. probably loads of douchebags gonna be pissed and posting their idiot words around everywhere
