MÖTLEY CRÜE, TWISTED SISTER Producer TOM WERMAN Comes Out Of Retirement To Work With GEISHA - July 5, 2008
Legendary '70s/'80s rock producer Tom Werman (MÖTLEY CRÜE, TWISTED SISTER, CHEAP TRICK, TED NUGENT) has come out of a retirement from the music industry of sorts to produce the new album from the acclaimed '80s Australian act GEISHA. Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Chris Doheny and guitarist Joe Matera began recording sessions last month in a Melbourne, Australia studio for what will become GEISHA's first studio LP to be recorded since 1989. The album will be the band's fourth official studio release to date.

Werman came onboard after hearing some of the band's impressive new demos.

Says Werman, "I was particularly delighted to contribute to the production of 'Birthday', since I could hear all the appealing elements of the song right in the demo and was reminded of how I used to approach the tunes that exhibited so much potential as single cuts."

Comments Joe Matera: "Tom is actually producing this track ['Birthday'] via the Internet. We are sending files back and forth, conducting conference calls etc with Tom who is overseeing the whole production from his Stonover Farm base in the U.S. As far as I know, and to my knowledge, GEISHA is setting a precedent in this new record production modus operandi."

Tom adds, "This may be the first record ever cooperatively produced online, as the internet continues to facilitate interesting new approaches to both making and distributing music."

The new recording will be the first to feature guitarist Matera, who joined GEISHA late last year.

The new single, "Birthday" will be issued prior to the album's release.

Werman was involved in a war of words earlier in the year with MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx over Sixx's recently published memoir, "The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star", which Tom called "totally deluded" and "stunningly inaccurate." Werman leveled his criticisms in a letter to the New York Times, taking issue with Sixx's claims that the bassist did all the work in the studio on the CRÜE albums "Theatre of Pain", "Shout at the Devil" and "Girls, Girls, Girls" while Werman chatted on the phone.

after reading the various war of words between Werman vs. Sixx and Werman vs. Dee Snider, I gotta say I tend to side with Werman on this. It's easy to look back and say "this could of been better," but this guy produced ALOT of gold/platinum albums I don't care how much drugs people were doing in the 80's if he was incompetent and guilty of everything these guys said he wouldn't of lasted so long or been so successful. The crazy thing is, these guys are complaining about albums that were the peak of their success?!!! In Crue's case 3 of their biggest releases!!! LOL how ungrateful and seriously think about it the #'s don't lie. If they had their own way back then it would of been disastrous!

one other thing about SIXX, what kind of dick regardless of how upset you are writes a letter to the NY TIMES trying to expose an ex friend or co workers infidelity? That is the lowest of the lows. What kind of poseur is SIXX? It violates the very fiber of the "guys" code and 23 years after the fact out of spite?

Met him @ a NAMM Producers Forum a few years ago. As said above. Look up his body of work. Don't forget the Ted Nugent stuff either!!!!!

...but my recollection of stuff like Girls, Girls, Girls and Stay Hungry is great songs with production that sounded like a transistor radio. Apparently Twisted Sister re-recorded their entire album 20 years later - don't know if that was just an anniversary celebration or because they thought the sound could be improved too

Also, I thought Werman overreacted to the stuff in Nikki's book - it's the ramblings of a smack-addled nutcase (albeit extremely entertaining ramblings of a drug-addled nutcase). Presumably Werman was offered the chance to contribute (the rest of Motley, plus numerous others, chip in with highly uncomplimentary stuff about Nikki) - so, if he declined, he has only himself to blame

Nikki's book is about 99% accurate. I know this for a fact. Tom didn't care much for Motley, (he saw them as having talent but not giving a fuck about it), hence his I'll call my bitch and sit on the phone while these punks are paying me. He did "try" to bring about a good production though. But if you read Nikki's book you'd realize just plain dealing with these guys back then was a FUCKING NIGHTMARE. Sober on the same day NEVER happend. The End.

Are about as Metal as Britney Spears!!!
Good band, no doubt about that, but I would class them as a VERY Soft Commercial Pop Rock band.

Ha ha, some blabber-junkie (schecter shredder) claiming to be so dialed in he can vouch for "99%" of some celebrity rock n' roll tell-all.

That's the funniest shit I've read on here all year.

And badguyhead, you are right, Mirrors is fucking awesome.

If he talked on the phone the whole time..why would they invite him back 2 more times to produce? Never trust a fucking junkie. That's Sixx trying to sell some dillusional producing career he wants to have.

COMMENT | Yes - he did BOC Mirrors and many others

And a great job I'll agree.

In Color definitely had its moments but was just too cheesy. And CT brought him back for Heaven Tonight!!

Heaven Tonight proved the band could rock.

Sixx SuXX. Fucking liar
