METALLICA Confirms 'Death Magnetic' Coffin Box - July 9, 2008
METALLICA has posted the following message on its web site:

"For you collector types out there we just had to put together something next level when the new record comes out in the fall . . . how about 'Death Magnetic' in a coffin box? [As BLABBERMOUTH.NET first reported on July 2.]

"The special edition box will come out the same day the album does (we'll tell you when that is soon . . . very soon) and will of course include the full CD (duh!), along with everything next level cool relating to 'Death Magnetic'!

"Seriously, there will be a CD with the demos of the songs, a DVD of even more 'making-of-the-album' footage not seen on Mission: Metallica, a t-shirt only available in this box, a flag, guitar picks, and a fold out poster along with a collector's credit card embossed with a code to redeem a free download of a special European show happening in September (yes, details coming soon!).

"We're in the process of wrapping up the artwork now, so we'll be sure to have some things to show soon. The coffin box will only be available through www.metallica.com, www.metclub.com, and www.missionmetallica.com and we'll keep you posted here as to when that will be (soon!)... not all countries will be available at the same time, so keep watching."

As previously reported, METALLICA has announced details of three other separate versions of the band's new album, "Death Magnetic", which will be available through the recently launched Mission: Metallica web site. The first package, called "Digital Death Magnetic", will cost $24.99 and includes digital delivery of the album at midnight on its release date, downloads of two entire shows from this summer, almost two hours of exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, 250 exclusive photos, ringtones of riffs from the new album, access to exclusive contests and a $10 coupon toward merchandise or fan club membership at Metallica.com or MetClub.com.

The second package, "Death Magnetic CD + Digital Death Magnetic", is $32.99. In addition to all the above items, it includes "Death Magnetic" on CD. The last package goes for $124.99 and includes all the items from the other two packages, plus a five-LP vinyl box set with five individual sleeves and a Mission: Metallica lithograph.

"Death Magnetic" is due out in September and was produced by METALLICA and Rick Rubin.

METALLICA will hit some European festivals starting later this month. The band's next U.S. date is the one-day Ozzfest on August 9 in Dallas, with a full North American tour slated to begin in October.

I really don't care if this box set is original or not, I'm not getting it but there will still be loyal Metallica fans who will. All I care about right now is if the album is good. I've been listening to the fly on the wall stuff on Mission Metallica and so far I'm impressed and it's cool hearing "the New song" from when it was first played live and hearing what they're doing to it now. Can't wait for it!

im ALL for an awesome bands influences and paying homage to them, but... HOW MUCH MORE CAN METALLICA HANG ON TO GLENN AND THE MISFITS DICK!?!???

For the record, the Misfits coffin boxset is bad ass! Maybe Metallica's will be bad ass as well

When NIN does 'packages' no one gives a shit.
When Metallica does, you somehow manage to find a way to complain about it.

Get over it. Coffins weren't trade-marked by the Misfits, neither was 'special packages' by NIN or Radiohead.

THIS IS HOW BANDS MAKE MONEY. THEY NEED MONEY TO BE A BAND. KTHNXBYE.

If the album is good. Which is why I'm downloading it the day its leaked, and if its awesome, I'll order the boxset

Though one thing strikes me as odd for this limited edition thing.... they are doing vinyl with everything else, so why not put vinyl in the boxset like what Radiohead and NIN did??

What? How about just a straight up copy of the album? I have to pay $32? Don't get me wrong, I know how marketing works, it's my area of study as a matter of fact. I don't blame them for putting out a package that some fans may want. But how about the people who buy a record to actually JUST listen?

...since none of you assholes buy CDs anymore and just download the albums, bands need to offer all this extra shit to make a decent living off of what they do. You call it money-grubbing, but realistically this is the future of the music industry...

You get all kinds of shit. What's the downside? All you downloaders actually have to pay for the cd and your bitching? If you don't like the idea of the coffin box, then don't fucking buy it.

Ya know just like all of you I was a huge Metallica fan and yes I"ll admit it I am a bit exited at the possibility of something that does not suck, but we all were before St Anger. We heard that the album was going back to their roots and blah blah blah and it was a huge pile of sh*t. Now if I understand them correctly they want to charge for these box sets, the first being 25.00 for a digital download (which will be up on a torrent site within the hour) is it a lossless format or sh*tty MP3. and photos and wall paper? Really? 25.00 for a bunch of stuff that isn't tangeble? 10.00 seems a bit more just. The rest of the box sets get worse from there. It's just the album in different packages. It's like charging 200 dollars for the cassette, an 8 track, the record, a cd and a download. We don't need that many formats. Its redundant. And who wants a demo it's usually a sh*tty version of a song. and live shows? We have all heard and seen them live over and over and over. It's the same. Exclusive songs or B-sides something that we can't normally get would be an incentive. After all of us bying their huge mansions and paying their therapy bills the damn thing should be free (especially after St. Anger). All that they offer is insulting. The only people that will spend money on those are kids who don't know any better (I was one of those who paid 60$ or so for the live box set what a waste) or people who have the Metallica underwear and want a complete collection. I was going to buy the album but I think now I'm gonna download it. If it's under 10 bucks and it's good MAYBE I'll pay for it. You want us to stop illeagal downloading stop treating your fans like morons. We know it does not cost that much to make a CD. And even less to offer a digital download. 10 bucks is a resonable price for a CD. I paid 11 dollars for the New Tesament CD and it was worth every penny. I think we are tired of getting fu*ked by the music and entertainment industry. James, Lars , Kirk, New Guy, Slayers Producer, any of you listed reading this, that want to offer a rebuttle on why your bull*hit packaging and prices are justifiable feel free to post.

Hey Blabber-mouthers....!

MySpace is having a karaoke contest and, you have to sing an Alanis Morissette song... I'd never heard it but, gave it a shot... I'd REALLY appreciate some feedback... I KNOW it's not metal... and, not Metallica-related but, what do you guys think?

desperate to minimize the downloading of this album. I was at one of the first shows metallica ever did, and I puechased every album on the release date. Load and rel,oad sucked balls, but at least the lyrics were good. Even that ended wity saint Anus! The fact that i paid money for that turd entitles me to listen to the new one before I purchase it..
What do I expect? something better than the last 3 albums, but then again, I record my dog licking his balls for an hour and accomplish that. We shall see!

I remember a time when I used to love MetallicA, because that was great music from a great band, which made for great days...these days though, 3 things are missing from that old scenerio: 1, The music isn't 'great' anymore (it's ok at best). 2, They are certainly NOT the great band they were then which now makes for 3, not so great days....

I only wish that I could still respect, appreciate, love and cherish this band that was so very great, but honestly, I can't. I don't have it in me anymore for them and sincerely doubt that they have the ability to put back inside me what once was there for them.

I think this album will be ok, but in the end it will be disappointing (as usual) just for the very fact that they and their music will NOT be what it once was...

I rather listen to actually talented bands like Opeth, Arch Enemy, and Katatonia...real talent, honest musicians, and such great fuckin' music!!

Fuck you Lars! and fuck James, learn how NOT to sing again..please!!!

Why don't you just shut the fuck up.. bla bla metallica are sellouts.. wah wah.. do people normally ignore you in real life? So you feel the need to come on here and bitch just to annoy people?

Some metallica fans, like this shit. Good for them, don't be so fucking obnoxious to hate on them just because you feel differently.

In all seriousness your all dumbasses for looking at Metallica like they are some kind of miracle workers there isnt a band in the world who turns out an EPIC album everytime they go to the studio. These guys do what they feel is best, they turn out what to them feels good and sounds good.. Its fuckin ridiculous to think they will turn out something like AJFA everytime they hit the studio.. Stop expecting so much out of people who are only human.
